Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: So, We’re Divorcing Today?
Yue Lei stood with her bag in the garage, chewing on gummy candy as her friend meticulously checked her cars one by one.
Last year, she had been a poor judge of character. A top influencer her company had put all its effort into promoting had, without her knowledge, crossed legal lines.
The influencer was publicly criticized by the government, and fines piled up one after another.
The entire company, Chunlei Influencer Incubation, was being devoured and was on the brink of bankruptcy. Although she, the boss, had stepped back and only took a cut, she was still at risk of going to jail.
Today, she was transferring her unfrozen cars and houses to her wife’s name, and then getting a divorce.
Her friend, Lin Zhixi, was a regional manager for an insurance company, and this kind of work was a piece of cake for her.
She jotted down the car’s condition while turning to look at Yue Lei. “Xiao Lei, aren’t you and your wife on pretty good terms? You were set up, too. Maybe you’ll just get a suspended sentence. You can start over and make a comeback. Why do you have to get a divorce?”
Yue Lei stopped chewing her candy. She waited until she had swallowed all the gummies in her mouth before speaking. “I promised Mo’s mom that I would never let Xuexue suffer a day with me.”
Her Xuexue was born with a silver spoon in her mouth.
As a child, she was spoiled by her family, and as an adult, she was surrounded by the affection of her peers. Finally, Yue Lei, thick-skinned and with a lot of money, had begged to marry her. She had never experienced a single day of hardship.
How could Yue Lei bear to let her live a life of poverty and exile with her?
Lin Zhixi looked at the woman, feeling that her excuse was insincere.
She frowned and clicked her tongue. “You didn’t get sick of the good life and want a divorce, did you? I’m telling you, you can’t be like that. When you’re married, you have to be good to your wife. Don’t be a jerk!”
Yue Lei was immediately flustered. Her love for Xuexue was as true as the heavens!
She walked quickly over, reached into the car, and was about to hit Lin Zhixi. “What the hell are you talking about? Do you think I want a divorce? If the company hadn’t had a problem, I would never get a divorce in this lifetime! I’d be Mo Yingxue’s person while I’m alive and her ghost when I’m dead!”
Seeing her like this, Lin Zhixi knew she had misjudged the situation. Their divorce must be for a good reason.
She dodged and laughed it off. “Alright, alright, I get it. You’re Mo Yingxue’s obsessive ghost. But you should ask for her opinion before you get a divorce. What if she doesn’t mind a life without money? Love is enough when you have nothing, not to mention how good your relationship is.”
“What the hell do you know?” Yue Lei was so angry that she hit the hood of the car.
If their relationship was really that good, she would never consider divorce.
When two people are truly in love, even in a rented apartment, the air is filled with sweetness and tenderness.
But…
This was an emotion that was completely forced on her part!
And her only advantage was her wealth, which allowed her to create a good environment for Xuexue to live the life she wanted.
But now all her money was gone. How could she, like a parasite, hold on and force herself on her? How could she let a noble princess wander with her?
If she were a few years younger, maybe she would have done that.
But she was twenty-eight, almost thirty. Crying in front of her lover with snot and tears was simply too embarrassing.
Yue Lei’s face was unreadable. Her long eyelashes cast a shadow under the light.
She squeezed the bag of gummies in her hand.
She said in a cold voice, “Hurry up. I have to go pick up Xuexue for the Bureau of Civil Affairs. After today, the next lucky day will be a month away, and by then, the lily flower soup will be cold.”
“You’re crazy!” Lin Zhixi couldn’t help but curse when she saw her insistence on a divorce. “People pick a good day to get married. You can go whenever you want to get a divorce.”
Yue Lei wanted to hit her again.
She immediately retorted, “We have to get a divorce today! If we pick a random day, the feng shui will be bad and it’ll break our destiny. What if I get rich again in the future, and Xuexue doesn’t want to remarry me?”
Yue Lei ignored Lin Zhixi’s eye roll.
She looked at the time. It was already three in the afternoon.
She felt a sense of urgency and turned to walk away.
“You keep going. I’m out of time. I have to go pick up my wife.”
…
When Yue Lei rushed home, Mo Yingxue had just finished taking a shower.
Her slightly curly long hair was wet on her shoulders, adding a layer of cold mist to her delicate and beautiful face.
She had a natural deficiency of vital energy and blood. After all these years of care, she was only slightly better.
But after a shower, the color on her face would still be paler than usual. Only the corners of her eyes and her lips held a faint red hue.
This sight always made Yue Lei feel a mixture of love and pity. She both wanted to hold her close and cherish her and, at the same time, was wickedly tempted to do things that would deepen the color of the red.
Mo Yingxue was sitting on the sofa, blow-drying her hair.
She glanced at Yue Lei when she heard the sound, then looked away. The expression on her face was the same as always.
The divorce seemed to have nothing to do with her. It didn’t seem to have left any mark on her heart.
Yue Lei’s bitterness grew.
However, Mo Yingxue was a cold person to begin with. After many years of marriage, Yue Lei was the only one who had given anything.
When they first got together, Mo Yingxue was shy and couldn’t relax in bed. Yue Lei, on the other hand, had a strong desire and wanted to be with her whenever she had a free moment.
Because their intimate life wasn’t harmonious, they had many arguments.
At the time, Yue Lei remembered having the courage to shamelessly draft a contract. She transferred all her money to Mo Yingxue’s account to show her loyalty, proudly claiming it was her dowry for marrying into the family.
Yue Lei remembered saying, “On the surface, it looks like I’ve won a beautiful woman, but in reality, I can’t even satisfy my own wife. If that gets out, people will say Yue Lei can’t perform and that they should introduce a new wife to Mo Yingxue. Then I’ll have lost everything and can only be a jealous stalker in the shadows. My wife, do you want to see me so pathetic, living like a sewer rat?”
Whenever she thought of those words, she would give herself a thumbs-up for her shamelessness.
Mo Yingxue was thin-skinned, and in the face of such a bizarre argument, she couldn’t say a word.
So Yue Lei struck while the iron was hot, taking the opportunity to set absurd requirements: having sex three times a week, except during her period, with two extra days during ovulation.
She also practiced hard and was finally able to satisfy Mo Yingxue in bed.
What Yue Lei loved most was the sight of her wife losing control when she held her.
Mo Yingxue was very reasonable. For seven years of marriage, she dutifully carried out intimate acts according to the calendar Yue Lei placed by the bed.
She would come home early at the appointed time and rarely ever missed it.
The twisted melon was also sweet enough. Yue Lei thought this was how her life would be: begging and pleading, never letting go of Mo Yingxue until the day she died.
But this day had still come.
Yue Lei had originally set aside time to explain the reason for the divorce to Mo Yingxue, but seeing her indifferent demeanor, she decided to stay quiet.
Their marriage was always a one-sided relationship.
Now that she was bankrupt and couldn’t afford to continue the marriage, she had no choice but to give Mo Yingxue her freedom. Talking more would only cause her more unhappiness.
Mo Yingxue continued to blow-dry her hair, then applied essential oil and styled it.
She was unhurried, not in a rush at all.
She had beautiful hair like black satin, and she always took care of it with such effort.
Yue Lei finally couldn’t help but speak. “Wife, hurry up. The Bureau of Civil Affairs will close soon.”
Mo Yingxue was as if waking from a dream. She stopped fussing with her hair and said flatly, “So, we’re divorcing today? I’ll go change. The divorce papers are in the study. Go get them.”
Yue Lei saw that the divorce papers were already signed.
There were a few drops of water on them. Mo Yingxue must have signed them after her shower, and some water from her hair accidentally dripped onto the papers.
When they arrived at the Bureau of Civil Affairs, it was almost closing time.
It was Yue Lei’s first time getting a divorce, and she had no idea what to do.
She mindlessly followed the process. The photo on her divorce certificate even had her smiling.
She didn’t want a divorce at all, but she looked as if she couldn’t wait.
She also looked at Mo Yingxue’s certificate.
Mo Yingxue’s photo was normal, as aloof and cold as ever, making it impossible to tell what she was thinking.
Her wife was so beautiful, even her ID photo was stunning.
Before she had a chance to look a few more times, Mo Yingxue reached out and took her divorce certificate.
When they walked out of the Bureau of Civil Affairs, they stood by the small fountain at the entrance in a daze.
There was more than a meter of space between them. Getting any closer felt impolite.
The sudden cold atmosphere finally made Yue Lei feel that she had truly divorced her wife.
The water from the fountain reflected on Mo Yingxue’s face, which was a shade fairer than most, making her look even colder and more beautiful than usual.
She was like a delicate, transparent, and cold snowflake. She was most beautiful from a distance, but if you got a little closer, she would melt and disappear.
Although Mo Yingxue was only half a year younger than her, time seemed to leave no traces on her face. Her skin was still soft and delicate to the touch. If you put her in a group of students, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
She really didn’t want to divorce her, but she had no other choice.
“Do you want to grab a bite to eat? We’ve gotten the certificate. Starting tonight, I won’t be living here anymore.”
After Yue Lei said this, she quietly looked at Mo Yingxue, hoping for her answer.
Mo Yingxue looked up, meeting Yue Lei’s gaze for the first time that day. She pursed her lips.
“No, I have an appointment.”
After she said that, she seemed to be in a hurry. She turned and left, her figure getting farther and farther away.
My wife has an appointment?
With who? Why haven’t I heard about this?
Hearing this, Yue Lei subconsciously wanted to chase after her and ask, but the next second, she remembered that they were at the entrance of the Bureau of Civil Affairs and they were divorced. She had no right or reason to ask.
She stopped in her tracks, took a deep breath, and walked away in a different direction.
Just as she turned a corner, a feeling of dizziness washed over her.
Yue Lei had been busy all day and had only eaten some gummy candy. She was probably experiencing low blood sugar.
She squatted on the side of the road, her vision turning black. She fumbled in her bag for any remaining candy or food.
However, this time, the dizziness was more severe than all the times before combined.
In a trance, Yue Lei lost all consciousness and completely passed out.
Yue Lei was woken up by a phone ringing.
She groggily pressed the accept button. The voice on the other end was both familiar and strange. “Hello, Xiao Yue. We agreed that my son would be coming back to get married and that we wouldn’t renew your lease for that apartment, right? When are you going to start moving out? Do you need any help?”
Yue Lei scrambled to get up, confused. “Auntie Zhou?”
She had rented Auntie Zhou’s apartment eight years ago.
The apartment was nice to live in, but when she moved out, some things happened that made the situation a little awkward.
“Yes, it’s me. Don’t go back to sleep yet. The apartment is a bit urgent. Please move out as soon as possible.”
After hanging up, Yue Lei rubbed her head and looked around.
The more she looked, the more her heart sank.
It was a large apartment that had been partitioned into several single rooms. Each room was a meticulously decorated live-streaming studio.
A streamer hadn’t finished her broadcast yet, and the sound of her laughing and joking with her audience kept coming from the room.
She looked at her phone again, which showed that it was June 14th, eight years ago. Yue Lei’s mind went blank.
She had returned to eight years ago, when her influencer incubation business had just started, and before she had met Mo Yingxue.
