- Chapter 2 - A Temporary Guest
The question was asked with such caution, paired with the Omega’s pitiful expression, that Ji Yaran’s heart was instantly struck.
She sighed inwardly. Fine, considering this Omega helped her out, why not just… let her stay for one night?
One was a Beta and the other was an Omega, it wasn’t as if anything scandalous could actually happen between them.
“Then… come back to the apartment with me,” Ji Yaran said.
“Sister?” The Omega was startled, her tear-filled eyes instantly brightening. “You, you’re willing to take me in?”
Her tone was slightly urgent, as if she were terrified Ji Yaran might take it back.
“Only for tonight,” Ji Yaran emphasized, “you’ll have to figure something else out afterward.”
It wasn’t that Ji Yaran lacked compassion or that her apartment was too small, it was just that this Omega’s behavior was a bit unusual. Any normal person would be wary of strangers. They didn’t know each other at all, and her offer to let the girl stay was purely a repayment for the help she had just received.
“One night… just one night is enough, I won’t cause you any trouble,” the Omega said in a low voice, “I’ll leave whenever you tell me to.”
“Alright, that’s enough,” Ji Yaran cut her off before she could say anything more dramatic. “I’m going across the street to call a taxi.”
It was eleven at night, and there were almost no taxis around. Ji Yaran waited for twenty minutes without luck until finally, the Omega couldn’t stand it anymore and used a mobile app to book a ride.
Once they got in, Ji Yaran gave the address: “Driver, Shangjia Apartments, please.”
The driver was a man of few words, remaining silent throughout the trip. In the dead of night, the interior of the car felt somewhat eerie, making Ji Yaran realize that having an Omega by her side was actually quite comforting.
Even though they didn’t speak the whole way, at least there was safety in numbers!
Fifteen minutes later, the car pulled over across from the Shangjia Apartments.
As Ji Yaran pushed the door open to get out, she heard the Omega whisper just as the door was closing: “Nine dollars and seventy cents… Sister, do you have any money? I’m completely out, so I’ll have to ask you to cover the fare.”
Ji Yaran was speechless. To not even have nine dollars and seventy cents, just how broke was this Omega?
Since the app order required online payment, Ji Yaran had no choice but to add her as a contact. “Add me on WeChat, I’ll transfer the money to you.”
“Okay.”
The Omega’s WeChat nickname included her full name, it seemed to be her real name: Song Qingxue.
The name sounded vaguely familiar, but Ji Yaran couldn’t place where she had seen it. She didn’t press for details and simply transferred the 9.70 to her.
For a moment, she felt exactly like those fools in the news who send money to scammers pretending to be poor.
However…
It was only nine dollars and seventy cents, not enough to lose sleep over. She’d just consider it the cost of washing away her recent bad luck!
Ji Yaran’s apartment was Unit 501 in Building 11, a place she had rented near the school after graduation. Of course, the rent was actually paid for by Yu Shi.
From that perspective, Yu Shi was actually quite good to her. She paid the rent, gave her resources to boost her career, and took her to high-end galas to expand her network. From the start, they had agreed it was a relationship of mutual benefit, provided one ignored the fact that Yu Shi later tortured her repeatedly because she couldn’t have her true “White Moonlight.”
The elevator reached the fifth floor. Ji Yaran took out her keys and opened the door. Turning to the Omega behind her, she said, “My apartment has two bedrooms. I’ll get the guest room ready for you in a bit, you can go take a shower first.”
The Omega reminded her softly: “But… I don’t have a change of clothes.”
“I’ll find a clean set for you.” Ji Yaran didn’t usually like sharing clothes with strangers, but thanks to Yu Shi, the original owner of this body had plenty of unworn clothes in the house. It was perfectly fine to give a set to this Omega.
Besides, Yu Shi wouldn’t remember which clothes she had bought anyway.
Hearing this, the Omega didn’t refuse further. With a slight blush, she said, “Then Sister… I won’t be formal with you.”
Ji Yaran left the Omega in the living room and returned to her bedroom to find a clean pair of pajamas.
However, once she opened the wardrobe, she realized that the pajamas Yu Shi had bought for her… were all the kind of “suggestive” sleepwear used by couples.
Yu Shi kept the original owner in this apartment essentially as an underground lover. Their relationship was built on nothing but sex, so the clothes Yu Shi bought were all tailored to her own specific fetishes.
After searching for a while, Ji Yaran finally managed to pick out a set that wasn’t too revealing.
She shut the wardrobe and went back to the living room, tossing the pajamas onto the sofa.
“You can wear these. Just take them with you when you leave, no need to return them.” The subtext was clear: they would only be spending this one night together.
At those words, the Omega lowered her long, dark lashes, and her expression dimmed. She seemed to be in a low mood.
But she didn’t say much, reaching out to take the clothes.
“Alright,” the Omega said, quickly adjusting her emotions as if realizing she was being impolite. “Then Sister, I’ll go wash up.”
With that, she took the clothes and entered the bathroom.
While the Omega was showering, Yu Shi sent several WeChat messages. Ji Yaran acted as if she hadn’t seen them and didn’t reply to a single one.
She scrolled through the chat history between the original owner and Yu Shi, feeling that the original host had been humble to the point of self-deprecation. She was like a canary kept in a cage, desperately showing off the little she had just to please her moody master.
No wonder Yu Shi was reluctant to let her go.
She looked like the White Moonlight, was completely obedient, and was willing to sacrifice herself. Even if Yu Shi had no feelings for her, it was hard to resist such an attraction.
After all, who would refuse a “spare tire” who was as easy to control as a puppet?
Ji Yaran drifted off into her thoughts and didn’t even notice the bathroom door opening.
Not until the Omega spoke softly: “Sister, I’m finished.”
Ji Yaran snapped back to reality and stood up. “Understood. I…”
The words caught in her throat.
The Omega had a slender frame, and the pajamas hung loosely on her, offering glimpses of porcelain-white skin. Her figure was bony yet carried a unique, bewitching quality. Her cheeks were flushed a light pink from the hot water, making her so beautiful it was hard to look away.
For a moment, Ji Yaran was actually dazed by this beautiful body, staring at the fair skin until she heard the Omega call her.
“Sister?”
Ji Yaran suddenly regained her composure and gave a light cough. “Right, then I’ll go wash up.”
She felt a surge of embarrassment. She was a Beta, yet she had just spaced out looking at an Omega’s body.
As she entered the bathroom, Ji Yaran faintly heard the Omega’s phone ringing in the living room.
She didn’t pay it any mind and pulled the bathroom door shut.
Because the Omega had just showered, the temperature in the bathroom was high. A fresh fragrance lingered in the steam, like a certain sweet and sour fruit.
Ji Yaran stopped in front of the foggy mirror. Her slender fingers brushed against her collar as she slowly unbuttoned her clothes.
Unlike the Omega’s thin frame, Ji Yaran’s body was more curvaceous, a standard S-shaped figure. Her skin was also very white, but it was a healthy, radiant white. It was flawless and supple, like a ripe peach.
Compared to the girl she had brought home, Ji Yaran’s body actually looked more like an Omega’s.
Some might have felt pity for her, but Ji Yaran only felt lucky.
In a society where Alphas held absolute dominance, beautiful Omegas lived as if walking a tightrope, one wrong step and they could become an Alpha’s plaything.
Being an unremarkable Beta was actually the safest identity.
She stared at the vibrant face in the mirror, sighed softly, and turned on the showerhead.
When Ji Yaran finished her shower and came out, she immediately saw the Omega sitting on the sofa, clutching a throw pillow with a restless look on her face.
“What are you doing sitting here? Why aren’t you in bed?” Ji Yaran asked while drying her hair.
“Sister,” the Omega spoke hesitantly, her fingers tightening around the pillow. “Can I… ask a favor of you?”
“What is it?”
“Sister… could you let me stay for a few more days, please?”
Ji Yaran’s movements froze.
“I… I ran away from home. My family treats me badly, and they’re all looking for me. Please don’t throw me out…”
The moment her voice softened, her entire face was filled with a cold, fragile beauty that was hard to refuse.
Ji Yaran remained silent for a while, continuing to dry her hair. Once she was finished, she set the towel aside and looked at her with a piercing gaze. “Why did you run away?”
The Omega’s expression darkened. “My parents were forcing me to marry… I didn’t want to, so they tried to take advantage of my heat cycle to make me and that Alpha…”
At this point, the Omega bit her lower lip, unable to continue.
Ji Yaran was stunned.
She hadn’t expected this Omega to be a runaway bride just like herself.
“You… your heat is coming?”
“The signs have already started,” the Omega bit her lip, “I didn’t bring any suppressants…”
“Why didn’t you say so earlier?” Even though she was a Beta, Ji Yaran knew what it meant for an Omega in heat to be without suppressants. “What type do you use? I’ll go buy some for you tomorrow.”
“Type One is fine.”
“Understood. Stay in the apartment tomorrow, and I’ll get them for you.”
“Thank you, Sister… I can cook and do housework, I won’t be a burden.”
“Get some rest, we’ll talk about the rest later.”
Early the next morning, Ji Yaran went out to buy the suppressants.
There were no hospitals nearby, so she had to take a taxi to a distant private clinic to find them.
She wasn’t worried about what the Omega might do alone at home. After all, there were security cameras, and given that the girl was in heat, she wouldn’t be wandering outside anyway.
After purchasing the medicine, Ji Yaran was about to message the Omega when a call popped up on her screen.
The caller was Ji Yahan, her older sister by three years. Her sister had completed a doctorate at a top foreign university at a young age and was the immovable second-in-command of the Ji Group. She was efficient, decisive, and very strict with Ji Yaran.
Ji Yaran didn’t dare to be slight with this sister and answered immediately.
Ji Yahan’s voice came through the phone: “Yaran, President Yu mentioned you got drunk at the gala yesterday?”
“Sister, I’m fine.” Ji Yaran couldn’t help but curse Yu Shi in her head. She hadn’t expected that after their unpleasantness last night, Yu Shi would go directly to Ji Yahan.
Yu Shi and Ji Yahan had some business dealings. They weren’t strangers, but they weren’t exactly close either, at least on the surface, they were “friends” in the business world. Even the reason the original owner knew Yu Shi was because they had attended Ji Yahan’s birthday party together.
But in any case, Ji Yahan definitely didn’t know about her private relationship with Yu Shi.
Yu Shi contacting Ji Yahan was a clear attempt to use her sister to pressure her.
“Is someone with you? Do you want me to come over and check on you?” Ji Yahan’s voice was full of concern. She had warned Ji Yaran since she was a child not to drink, knowing how low her tolerance was. she was truly afraid her sister might have been taken advantage of while drunk.
“I…” Ji Yaran hesitated for a few seconds. “Someone is here, you don’t need to come over, Sister.”
She knew Ji Yahan had been busy with company matters lately and felt bad making her run around. But the most important reason was that she was afraid Ji Yahan would discover the truth about her and Yu Shi.
This apartment was rented by Yu Shi, after all. Yu Shi might come back at any time. If Ji Yahan found out she was willing to be a body double for someone’s White Moonlight, she would definitely give her a harsh scolding.
“Who is it? Is it Sister Mei?”
The “Sister Mei” Ji Yahan referred to was Ji Yaran’s senior and a former classmate of Ji Yahan. She was a loyal person who had worked behind the scenes in the entertainment industry for years and had her own network. Because of Ji Yahan, she had always looked after Ji Yaran.
“No,” Ji Yaran answered vaguely. “It’s someone… I don’t know.”
“What?” Ji Yahan sounded extremely surprised. “Someone you don’t know?”
“She helped me out yesterday,” Ji Yaran explained quickly, fearing her sister might misunderstand. “I drank too much, and she brought me back to the apartment.”
“Is the person reliable?”
“I think so…” Ji Yaran’s tone was uncertain, as if she were trying to convince herself. “Otherwise, she wouldn’t have helped me.”
In truth, Ji Yaran knew nothing about the Omega’s background. She could only try to keep her voice steady so her sister wouldn’t worry too much.
“What’s her name?”
“She… I think she’s called Song Qingxue.” Ji Yaran recalled the name she saw when they added each other on WeChat.
“Who did you say?!” Ji Yahan’s tone changed instantly.
“Song Qingxue…” Ji Yaran repeated, a sudden sense of unease washing over her. “What is it, Sister? Is something wrong?”
