Pregnant With the Villain Boss’ Baby - Chapter 2
“Mommy, dinner’s ready!” Yun Lan’s voice pulled Yun Mu back to reality.
“Coming.” She stretched lazily, picking up Niunai—who was still sitting obediently on her lap—and gently setting the kitten on the floor. She stood up, smoothing out her slightly tousled hair.
Meow… mrow… Niunai didn’t seem to want to leave her favorite human’s side, rubbing and circling around Yun Mu’s pale, slender ankles.
Feeling the soft, ticklish brush against her skin, Yun Mu let out a soft chuckle. She leaned down, tapping her finger against the kitten’s pink nose. “Be good, go eat.” Only then did she follow Yun Lan, who was tugging her toward the dining table.
“Ready?” Yang Chen was setting out the bowls and chopsticks. Seeing Yun Mu approach, she gave a slight nod of greeting.
Yun Lan looked from one to the other and let out a heavy sigh like a little old man. Sister Yang was great, and if she could, she’d love to set them up, but… Sister Yang already had someone in her heart.
Thinking back to her mother’s words earlier, it was clear she had no intention of finding a partner. Yun Lan could only shrug; in the journey of love, everyone had to walk their own path.
“Smells incredible.” Yun Mu eyed the dishes on the table, her eyes narrowing with satisfaction as her tone softened.
“Everything you like,” Yang Chen said with a smile, handing a bowl to Yun Mu.
“Thank you.” Yun Mu took the bowl and didn’t stand on ceremony, digging right in. As a seasoned foodie, she’d endured a period of living on nutritional supplements back on the outer planets. That taste… that texture… it was truly beyond words.
She had watched in horror as others gulped the stuff down without blinking, even discussing which flavors were better. To that, she offered a firm “thanks, but absolutely not.”
Yun Mu didn’t know much about the agriculture of this world, but she knew one thing for certain: compared to supplements, fresh food was expensive. One tube of supplement could cover a meal, while the cost of fresh ingredients for a month might eat up an average person’s entire salary in just a few days—and that was just for leafy greens. Rare ingredients were priced at astronomical levels. It was almost tragic when you thought about it.
As she chewed on a piece of braised meat, she noted that this world didn’t have the standard beef, mutton, pork, or chicken from her past life. The meat sources were strange and varied, but as long as it was edible, Yun Mu didn’t mind trying them all.
“Sister Yang, your cooking is getting better and better!” Yun Lan’s face was already slick with oil, looking every bit the child.
“Eat slowly, Yun Lan. Don’t rush, no one is going to snatch it from you.” Yang Chen helplessly handed the girl a tissue to wipe the grease off her face. This child was perfect in every way except for her lack of table manners.
As for Yun Lan, she ignored the advice. This was a speed she had perfected at school. When you’re an Alpha cub eating with a bunch of other Alphas, if you want to be full, you have to be fast. Who cares about appearances?
“Baozi.”
Yun Mu spoke up. She didn’t even lift her gaze, but the slight upward tilt of her tone carried a warning. Yun Lan’s small body stiffened instantly. Her pace slowed to a crawl, and she began taking tiny, polite bites.
Yang Chen’s gaze shifted to Yun Mu. The beauty ate quickly, yet her posture remained elegant, like a high-born young lady—a truly pleasing sight.
Yun Mu was her savior, and Yang Chen felt nothing but gratitude for her, not love. Yet, watching her eat, a similar figure flickered in Yang Chen’s mind—a figure that insisted on chasing its own dreams, dazzling and brilliant.
How could someone that exceptional ever notice her? Yang Chen sighed inwardly, a trace of bitterness welling up.
“Ugh… Mommy, eat slower. Don’t you have to go to work later? If you eat too much, your fans will notice your little tummy,” Yun Lan whispered urgently as she saw the dishes dwindling. She was getting anxious; even if she was an Alpha, her little arms could only reach so much. She was no match for Yun Mu.
Clang.
The crisp sound of chopsticks hitting a bowl chilled the atmosphere at the table instantly.
Yun Mu set her utensils down and slowly pushed up her sleeves. Propping her pale, rounded elbow on the polished table, she rested her chin on her fist and flashed a brilliant smile at Yun Lan, punctuating every word.
“Baozi, what did you just say?”
“I said… Mommy is the prettiest! The most beautiful Omega in the whole world! You’re perfect…” Sensing a dire threat to her life, Yun Lan snapped her back straight. In a desperate bid for survival, her mouth worked like a machine gun, firing off a barrage of frantic compliments.
Yun Mu curled her finger and flicked Yun Lan’s forehead. She let out a soft “Hmph.”
“Sweet-talker.”
“Ow, Mommy…” Even though she was an Alpha and naturally sturdy even as a child, Yun Lan clutched her forehead and put on a pitiful act, her large eyes turning watery and innocent.
Glancing at the “little bun” faking misery, Yun Mu resisted the urge to tell her she was being too dramatic. She lowered her gaze and began sipping her soup in elegant silence, choosing “out of sight, out of mind.”
Yun Lan: Mommy thinks I’m annoying! QAQ
After finishing her soup, Yun Mu elegantly wiped the corners of her mouth and tossed the tissue into the bin before standing up.
“I’m heading to work.” She turned to leave, but paused mid-step. She glanced back to see Yun Lan looking like she’d just survived a disaster, her face freezing when she realized her mother had turned around.
A flash of amusement and mischief danced in Yun Mu’s eyes. She patted Yun Lan’s head and said in a mock-rewarding tone:
“Remember to do your homework. Then, go to the training room and exercise for two hours—let’s set the intensity to Rank A. I’ll be checking your progress later. Also, memorize those books on the table; there will be a test.”
With that, she turned and made a graceful exit, leaving behind a sympathetic Yang Chen and a small, petrified statue that looked ready to crumble.
Thud. It wasn’t until Yun Mu had walked upstairs and closed her bedroom door that a shrill wail erupted from below.
“NOOO! THE HEAVENS WANT ME DEAD!”
“So noisy,” Yang Chen muttered, glancing at Yun Lan with mild disdain as she cleared the table.
“Hmph!” Yun Lan puffed out her cheeks, turning her grief and indignation into an appetite. She began sweeping through the leftovers with a resentful glare—if she had to die, she was going to die on a full stomach.
Upstairs, Yun Mu didn’t need to look to know what was happening below. With light, elegant steps, she approached a cylindrical, semi-enclosed bed and lay down.
Unlike a normal bed, it felt like a waterbed. A mechanical panel was set into the wall nearby, featuring a semi-circular groove at the bottom.
Yun Mu adjusted her hair and rested her head against the groove, the panel covering nearly half her forehead. Sensing her presence, the machine began to glow, and the transparent protective shroud slowly lowered.
Yun Mu closed her eyes and relaxed completely. A pleasant female voice echoed in her mind:
“User identity confirmed… Beep, beep… Verification complete. Entering Cloud World…”
A moment later, Yun Mu opened her eyes again. Before her was a bustling street crowded with people.
The cylindrical pod that had enclosed her was gone. Around her, blue lights flickered as people materialized and vanished.
This was a massive virtual world. Using the mechanical panel as a base, users projected themselves into this space via mental construction.
A person’s identity could only be registered once; their face and body were mapped proportionally. If you wanted to change your appearance, you had to buy the necessary “skins.”
The crowd around her was a kaleidoscope of styles—animals, Iron Man suits, clowns, and even orcs. In this virtual world, as long as you had the credits, you could look like whatever you wanted.
Yun Mu looked down at her own furry paws. She took a few hops forward until she saw a shop window. Reflected inside was a fox with fur as vibrant as a licking flame. Her fluffy coat made her look like a round, soft ball of fur, barely bigger than two human heads. She was devastatingly cute.
Whoosh!
The ball of fur shot out like a bolt of fire. In the crowd, she looked like a streak of red ribbon weaving through the legs of the pedestrians. She was heading toward one of the tallest buildings on the street.
