Pregnant with the Empress’s Alpha Heir - Chapter 19
The following days were much calmer.
The National Archaeological Institute issued a statement indicating that they were currently verifying the authenticity of the ancient qin score, with specific results to be announced later.
Although the authenticity of the qin score had yet to be confirmed, Yu Zhitao’s improvement in qin-playing skills was undeniable.
With fewer nitpicking listeners, she quickly amassed a large following on StarNet, and the Fan & Dream Bar also saw an influx of customers drawn by her performances.
The only thing that puzzled Yu Zhitao was her silly younger brother, who, from that day onward, showed up every single day.
Perhaps scolded by Ah Jiu, he was no longer as arrogant and punchable as before.
After apologizing on his StarNet page, he and Shu Da became Yu Zhitao’s most loyal fans.
So every time she performed, she could spot him in the audience.
One night, after her performance, Yu Zhihuai walked with Yu Zhitao toward the bus stop.
Seeing that the bus wouldn’t arrive for a few more minutes, Yu Zhihuai pulled her aside and whispered, “Big sis, you’re the esteemed eldest daughter of the Yu family… Are you really planning to stay with that Alpha?”
Yu Zhitao fell silent.
Truthfully, she and Ah Jiu had only ended up together because of an accident.
When she went to the bar that night looking for a one-night stand, she never expected things to last this long with Ah Jiu.
Had she ever seriously considered a future with Ah Jiu?
Every time she thought about it, she felt a little frustrated.
Setting aside her own feelings, she could clearly tell from their time together that Ah Jiu hadn’t included her in her future plans.
Afraid of being the only one invested, she avoided dwelling on it, deciding to take things as they came.
Hearing Yu Zhihuai’s question, she turned away. “Why do you care?”
Yu Zhihuai could already guess her stance.
Seeing her evade the question, he actually sighed in relief.
“I’m just looking out for you,” he said. “By the way, since you two are have you, uh, taken safety precautions?”
Yu Zhitao blinked in confusion.
Yu Zhihuai looked exasperated. “You’re practically drenched in Ah Jiu’s pheromones. At this rate, if you’re not careful, you might… might end up pregnant!
“I won’t judge if you’re just having fun, but sis, you can’t compromise on this.”
With that, he mysteriously pulled out several boxes of pills from his pocket.
“I know you’re short on money right now. Here, I used my allowance to get these through a friend.
“They’re the newest on the market, you can’t find them in regular pharmacies. They’re super effective at preventing pregnancy, and most importantly, my friend says they have almost no side effects for Omegas!
“Just take these from now on!”
Once she processed his words, Yu Zhitao was speechless.
She and Ah Jiu hadn’t used contraception, but that was purely because they didn’t need to.
Due to her illness, Ah Jiu couldn’t impregnate anyone.
Of course, she wouldn’t expose Ah Jiu’s private struggles in front of her brother.
So, blushing, she simply accepted the pills.
“Got it.
“Your big sis isn’t that broke. I’ll transfer the money back to you later.”
Yu Zhihuai took a step back.
“No need. The family cut off your allowance, not mine.”
“Big sis, take these medicines for now. Let me know if you need more.”
Yu Zhitao nodded.
She couldn’t help but feel touched.
Yu Zhihuai, despite being an Alpha who sometimes seemed a bit dense and prone to impulsive mistakes, had actually been raised with proper values—a genuinely upright and kind-hearted kid.
Ever since accepting Yu Zhitao and Ah Jiu, he had become much more obedient around them.
Of course, it might also be because he had come to a profound realization.
He really couldn’t beat Ah Jiu.
Yu Zhitao tucked the medicine into her coat pocket and patted his shoulder, signaling the end of their conversation. “Alright, we’re heading off now.
“It’s getting late. You should go back too.”
Yu Zhihuai nodded.
For the past few days, he had been escorting them to the bus stop before leaving.
Now that it was time to part ways, he followed Yu Zhitao back to Ah Jiu and took the initiative to say goodbye.
Ah Jiu nodded. “Be careful on your way back.”
But just then, the bus they were about to board arrived.
Ah Jiu’s sharp eyes instantly caught sight of a vaguely familiar figure inside.
Her steps faltered as she boarded. Passing by Yu Zhihuai, she whispered, “Take the next bus and follow us.”
Without waiting for his reaction, she shielded Yu Zhitao and stepped onto the bus.
Left behind at the stop, Yu Zhihuai stood there in confusion, dumbfounded for a long moment.
Snapping out of it, he muttered, “What the hell…”
Irritated, he ruffled his hair but ultimately didn’t dare to leave outright. Reluctantly, he waited for the next bus, due in five minutes.
Meanwhile, on the bus Ah Jiu kept a close watch on the movements of several plainclothes men at the back.
There were three strangers in total, scattered across the rear seats. All of them were burly, clearly Alphas trained in specialized combat.
One of them, Ah Jiu had even seen before.
The same man who had caused trouble at the hotel, likely sent by the Yu family to pressure Yu Zhitao into returning.
The reason Ah Jiu had told Yu Zhihuai to follow wasn’t because she doubted her ability to handle the three men. Rather, she wanted to address the root of the problem.
In her current state, she couldn’t communicate directly with the Yu family head but Yu Zhihuai could.
She wouldn’t be able to protect Yu Zhitao forever. Before leaving, she had to find a way to deal with these stalkers once and for all.
For some reason, the thought of Yu Zhitao one day facing the world’s cruelty alone, in some place beyond her sight, made Ah Jiu’s chest tighten uncomfortably.
She lowered her gaze slightly, staring blankly at the adorable swirl of hair on Yu Zhitao’s head.
Yu Zhitao, who had been asking whether the kitten in the video was cute, noticed her prolonged silence and looked up.
“Ah Jiu? What are you spacing out for?”
She laughed and repeated, “Look, doesn’t this kitten remind you of Xiao Jiu?
“They both get their chins wet when drinking water so adorably silly!”
Ah Jiu nodded and ruffled her hair.
“We’re almost at our stop,” she said.
Soon, the bus announcement sounded, and the two got off at the station.
The three men followed them out but, likely to avoid suspicion, walked off in the opposite direction.
Yet Ah Jiu clearly sensed that after putting some distance between them, they doubled back.
She flexed her wrists, readying herself for a fight.
Back when she chose this apartment for its affordability, Yu Zhitao had picked one located at the border between the Upper District and Mid District.
This resulted in somewhat lax management of the area.
The Upper District assumed it was under Mid District jurisdiction, while the Mid District thought it belonged to the Upper District.
Ah Jiu knew these people hadn’t made their move yet because they were waiting for that blind spot ahead, where there were no surveillance cameras.
But she obviously wouldn’t let them have their way.
So, when passing by a 24-hour unmanned convenience store, Ah Jiu stopped.
She opened the door and said to Yu Zhitao, “Go inside.”
Yu Zhitao was still confused.
“Need to buy something?” she asked Ah Jiu.
Ah Jiu nodded. “The cat food at home is almost out. Go get another box.”
Yu Zhitao wanted to ask why she wasn’t coming in too, but Ah Jiu cut her off firmly, “I’ll wait outside.”
YuZhitao nodded blankly. “Oh… okay.”
She obediently entered the store, and Ah Jiu fiddled with the door controls, locking it directly behind her.
Then, she turned around and called out toward the shadows nearby, “Come out.”
A cold breeze swept past, the surroundings silent. After about two or three minutes, three figures finally emerged.
They surrounded Ah Jiu at the entrance, encircling her.
“Just whose side are you on? Do you even know you’re messing with the Yu Family of the Capital Star?” the leader demanded furiously.
Ah Jiu simply pulled a hair tie from her pocket and tightened her slightly loose ponytail.
As she tied it, she said, “Let’s just get started. I need to finish before she comes out.”
Yu Zhitao had already sensed something was wrong.
She took some time to find the pet food section, grabbed a small box of cans without looking too closely, and hurried to the self-checkout, ready to leave quickly and regroup with Ah Jiu.
Just as she reached the checkout, through the glass walls, she saw the scene outside.
Three burly men had Ah Jiu surrounded, the four of them locked in a fierce struggle.
She wasn’t completely clueless—she immediately understood Ah Jiu’s odd behavior throughout their journey.
So she ducked behind a nearby shelf, forcing herself to stay calm as she dialed emergency services.
“Officer, at the entrance of the ‘All-Have Convenience Store’ in Zone A67, there’s—there’s a group ganging up on someone, trying to rob us!
“…There are three of them… Weapons? No firearms spotted yet, um… no bladed weapons either.
“Please send someone immediately. Yes, okay, thank you, thank you.”
Having done all she could, Yu Zhitao wiped the tears welling in her eyes.
She knew she was useless in this situation and could only do her best not to burden Ah Jiu further.
After waiting a little longer, she couldn’t resist peeking outside again.
In just a few minutes, the four-way brawl had reduced to only two people standing.
Wait!
Yu Zhitao froze, then looked more carefully. There were clearly three people lying on the ground.
Where did the extra one come from?
She rushed to the door, pounding on the glass as she shouted, “Ah Jiu!”
Only then did she see clearly, the extra person was Yu Zhihuai, who had supposedly already bid them farewell at the station.
Ah Jiu opened the door for her, and Yu Zhitao frantically checked her over. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Ah Jiu stayed silent, while Yu Zhihuai rolled his eyes beside her. “Big sis… she’s fine.”
Then, squatting down, he added, “Ah Biao’s the one who’s not doing so great.”
He arrived when the battle was at its most intense.
After witnessing firsthand how Ah Jiu took down three men, Yu Zhihuai now felt more inferior than shocked.
Yu Zhitao took a moment to process the situation. “You know these people?”
“…They’re Father’s personal guards,” Yu Zhihuai muttered gloomily.
Yu Zhitao frowned. “Father’s personal guards… Why would they ambush Ah Jiu?”
The guard named A-Biao struggled to get up from the ground. “Young Miss, please don’t persist in your delusions.
“The Master has already learned of your recent misconduct from the Star Network. That’s why he ordered us to bring you back to the Yu family.”
Yu Zhitao frowned. “Pretty words, but you just wanted to kidnap me, didn’t you?”
She shook her head. “I’m not going back. Tell Father I’m doing just fine out here.”
A-Biao looked troubled.
They were just guards, how could they persuade their master?
It was Ah Jiu who turned directly to Yu Zhihuai.
“Did you hear that?” she confirmed. “Go back and tell your father your elder sister doesn’t want to return for now.
“If he really wants her back, he shouldn’t resort to such underhanded methods.”
Yu Zhihuai nodded guiltily. “I understand.”
Just then, the sound of police sirens echoed in the distance.
Ah Jiu froze, turning to look at Yu Zhitao. “You called the police?”
Yu Zhitao nodded.
Ah Jiu grabbed her hand. “Let’s go back first.”
Before leaving, she hastily threw a final remark at Yu Zhihuai: “Handle the police. I doubt you want the Yu family’s guards ending up in custody, do you?”
Yu Zhihuai nodded.
Before the police arrived, Ah Jiu and Yu Zhitao vanished into the night.
Back at home, Yu Zhitao’s mind was in turmoil.
Yu Zhihuai had already sent a message saying the police report had been settled, and he would explain things to their father.
But that wasn’t what bothered Yu Zhitao.
She had noticed something else, Ah Jiu seemed unwilling to be seen by the police.
Why was that?
Meanwhile, Ah Jiu acted as if nothing had happened, picking up fresh clothes and asking, “Do you want to shower first, or should I?”
“You go ahead,” Yu Zhitao replied with a smile.
Watching Ah Jiu enter the bathroom, she sat down on the sofa, lost in thought.
Her hand accidentally brushed against something in her coat pocket. Pulling it out, she realized it was the boxes of contraceptives Yu Zhihuai had given her earlier.
Perhaps because they had been stuffed in her pocket for too long, the pills emitted a strange odor.
Yu Zhitao instinctively brought them to her nose and sniffed.
“Ugh!” The next second, she gagged uncontrollably.
Covering her nose, she muttered, “What the hell is this…?”
Glancing around, she quickly grabbed a black bag and, while Ah Jiu was still in the shower, stuffed all the boxes deep into a cabinet.
