Pregnant with the Empress’s Alpha Heir - Chapter 15
Yu Zhitao never expected that fights between Alphas could be “voice-controlled.”
In any case, the fight that Yu Zhihuai had single-handedly provoked ended very abruptly.
She hurried over to A Jiu and stared at the foot still pressing down on Yu Zhihuai’s back. “Is… is he okay?”
A Jiu withdrew her foot and repeated the same words: “He won’t die.”
Since he was still her brother, Yu Zhitao gave him a hand when she saw him struggling to get up.
Once Yu Zhihuai was back on his feet, he clutched his chest and continued to talk tough: “Don’t think you’re so great. I’m only 17 and haven’t trained in combat for long. In a few years, I’ll definitely knock you flat!”
A Jiu sized him up briefly. “Oh.”
That single “oh” was dripping with sarcasm, instantly turning Yu Zhihuai’s face beet red.
Fortunately, he had learned his lesson this time knowing he was truly no match for her and didn’t dare act recklessly again.
The bar’s security staff finally arrived at the scene.
Coincidentally, Lin Kang was on duty tonight. Just last night, he had failed to get Yu Zhitao’s contact information and had mocked A Jiu mercilessly.
Now, however, his gaze at A Jiu carried a hint of fear.
To put it bluntly, Alphas had an innate radar for gauging each other’s strength. Though Yu Zhihuai was young, his natural genes and upbringing made him formidable. If Lin Kang were honest with himself, he wouldn’t even dare claim he could withstand Yu Zhihuai’s attacks.
Yet this low-tier Alpha he had looked down on had just effortlessly taken him down.
Lin Kang’s voice trembled involuntarily.
“Fighting isn’t allowed in the bar. Are, are you all okay?”
Everyone shook their heads.
The only one who looked remotely “not okay” was Yu Zhihuai, but he would never admit it.
Lin Kang nodded.
“If it was just a misunderstanding, then let’s all move on.”
The boss wasn’t around tonight, and he couldn’t afford to offend any of these people, he certainly didn’t dare kick them out.
Then, A Jiu suddenly spoke up.
She pointed at Yu Zhihuai. “He’s underage.”
According to imperial law, minors under 18 were prohibited from entering restricted venues like bars.
But as the young master of the Yu family, Yu Zhihuai had never been stopped before, he had treated the rule as nonexistent since childhood.
A Jiu’s words immediately set him off.
“What’s wrong with being underage? Don’t think just because you’re my sister’s partner, you can boss me around!”
Lin Kang stood awkwardly by, forcing a smile.
A Jiu lowered her head slightly, mulling over the phrase “my sister’s partner.”
She glanced at Yu Zhitao and, in a rare good mood, said, “Forget it.”
Yu Zhihuai nearly exploded again at her dismissive attitude, but Yu Zhitao quickly grabbed his arm.
“What are you doing? Show A Jiu some respect!” she scolded, glaring at him.
Yu Zhihuai took a few deep breaths, finally remembering why he was here.
He had come tonight to expose the guqin performance as a fraud.
So he turned to Yu Zhitao. “Sis… after you left home, were you being controlled by these people?”
Yu Zhitao had already heard the full story from Shu Da.
She sighed, exasperated. “No!
“And let me tell you, you couldn’t be more wrong! The guqin performance is real, and me playing it is real too.”
Words alone wouldn’t convince him, so she led the way back into the bar. “Come on, my performance is about to start.”
She looked at A Jiu. “A Jiu, take them to find seats. I need to get ready backstage.”
Ah Jiu nodded.
Having just finished a fight, she showed no signs of disarray. Instead, having stretched her limbs, she seemed even more spirited than usual. “Go ahead,” she said.
Yu Zhitao left as instructed, and Ah Jiu, as promised, found a spot in the venue with Yu Zhihuai and Shu Da.
The bar patrons, having just witnessed an exciting brawl, were now casting curious glances at the former adversaries who had reconciled and were sitting together.
Ah Jiu sat comfortably, but Yu Zhihuai felt as if everyone was mocking him for being subdued in one move. He shifted restlessly, unable to find a comfortable position.
Ah Jiu was annoyed.
She pressed a hand on Yu Zhihuai’s shoulder. “Sit still.”
Whether it was due to her intimidating presence or his status as “the elder sister’s partner,” Yu Zhihuai didn’t dare move again.
He sat ramrod straight, hands on his knees, looking like a schoolboy who had just been reprimanded by a teacher.
Shu Da, observing their interaction, couldn’t help but burst into laughter, shaking uncontrollably.
Yu Zhihuai, unable to move, shot her murderous glares.
But Shu Da kept laughing.
Yu Zhihuai grew angry.
He cleared his throat and pointed out, “She’s moving around too.”
Ah Jiu leaned back on the sofa, arms crossed, pretending not to hear.
Yu Zhihuai cleared his throat again, louder this time. “She’s moving too! Do something about her!”
Ah Jiu finally glanced at him.
She said leisurely, “I’m not her sister’s partner. I can’t control her.”
Yu Zhihuai was stunned, then puffed his cheeks in silent frustration.
Shu Da finally gave in, clutching her stomach as she laughed heartily.
Wiping tears from her eyes, she said, “Zhitao is so adorable, how did her brother turn out so silly?”
Yu Zhihuai bared his teeth, glaring at her.
The next second, Ah Jiu grabbed his head and turned it back toward the stage.
“Mind your dignity as an Alpha,” she reminded softly.
Yu Zhihuai, still young, was so worked up he nearly teared up. But having been thoroughly subdued, he sat obediently under Ah Jiu’s control, docile as a quail.
Seeing this, Shu Da stifled her laughter.
After the earlier fight, her livestream had regained its peak popularity, though the audience’s attention had completely derailed.
[OMG, the long-haired sister is so cool prprpr! Is she with the guqin girl? Mom, I’m shipping them again!!!]
[LMAO, Avery Yu is a famous blogger, and he’s this much of a coward IRL? Hahahaha screenshot taken!]
Shu Da checked the comments and reminded, “Focus, everyone. The guqin performance is about to start. I’ve already gotten Zhitao’s permission, the entire show will be livestreamed.
“Let’s calm down and get ready to enjoy the performance.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the bar’s lighting shifted dramatically.
Soon, amid artificial mist, Yu Zhitao appeared with her guqin, drawing everyone’s attention back.
[So ethereal!]
[Falling in love on the spot, someone tell me how to beat the long-haired sister!]
[To defeat the long-haired sister, you only need one thing, a dream!]
[Ahhh I’m so excited! Just based on her aura, I believe she can really play ancient instruments!]
[…]
Yu Zhitao, of course, knew nothing of the livestream’s chatter.
She took some time to locate Ah Jiu ‘s position, offering him a faint smile before settling her qin. Taking a deep breath, she began to play.
The melody rose, swirling above the bar, soothing the restless hearts of the crowd.
In Shu Da’s livestream, the barrage of comments noticeably dwindled, yet the viewer count soared at an astonishing rate.
Yu Zhihuai was dumbfounded.
He never expected his elder sister to actually have such a skill up her sleeve.
Moreover, after days of practice, Yu Zhitao’s technique had grown even more refined. The music flowed smoothly and vividly, surpassing the beauty of Shu Da’s previous videos.
As the piece concluded, the audience froze for a second before erupting into thunderous applause.
The listeners in Shu Da’s livestream went wild.
The entire screen was flooded with [applause] emojis without blocking the barrage, not a single frame of the performance was visible.
Shu Da trembled with excitement. “See, I wasn’t lying!
“Ancient instruments really can be played, and Sister Zhitao is truly incredible!”
On stage, Yu Zhitao bowed with flushed cheeks, then added, “Tonight, there’s one more piece, a newly practiced qin composition called Falling Geese on the Sandbar. I hope you’ll enjoy it.”
Amid the cheers, she returned to the qin and raised her hands once more.
This new piece was more challenging than the previous one, and its live effect was even more mesmerizing.
Unlike the popular music of this era, the sound of ancient instruments was natural and pure, resonating deeply with the soul.
By the time the performance ended, most of the audience was utterly captivated, their excitement rivaling that of Shu Da, the number one fan.
With the night’s performance concluded, Yu Zhitao picked up her qin, ready to leave the stage.
Just then, an unwelcome voice cut through the crowd.
“This is fraud!”
Everyone turned toward the speaker.
The troublemaker wasn’t Yu Zhihuai, who had already been subdued by Ah Jiu , but an unfamiliar middle-aged man.
In this interstellar age, vision problems like nearsightedness could be perfectly treated, yet this man still wore thick glass spectacles. He was gaunt, and the absence of pheromones marked him as a Beta.
Yu Zhihuai was baffled. “Where did this guy come from?”
Shu Da was the first to react. “Seems like you weren’t the only one who came to verify things tonight, but…”
She frowned. “Zhitao has already performed. What does he mean by ‘fraud’?”
As if reading their thoughts, the man stepped onto the stage and confronted Yu Zhitao at the microphone.
“I heard your performance with my own ears, so I’m not questioning whether ancient instruments can be played.
“But why claim these are ‘ancient qin compositions’? Pieces like Flowing Water and Falling Geese on the Sandbar their names may have been deciphered, but even the National Archaeological Institute hasn’t fully decoded their notation.
“By passing them off as ancient qin compositions, isn’t that fraud?”
Yu Zhitao stood frozen.
She had no way to refute this accusation.
She knew she was playing the authentic pieces. Her skill was limited, she couldn’t compose qin music herself.
And she refused to falsely claim these pieces as her own, always introducing them truthfully.
Yet now, she had stumbled right here.
The middle-aged man was right, how could she possibly understand a musical score that even the National Archaeological Institute couldn’t decipher?
Just as Yu Zhitao was at a loss, Ah Jiu came to her side.
She took Yu Zhitao’s hand and shielded her behind her.
Finally, Ah Jiu looked at the middle-aged man and said coldly, “The ancient qin score can be found on the Star Network. Just because the Archaeological Institute couldn’t decipher it doesn’t mean no one else can.”
“Though you did remind us based on the merit of deciphering the score, the National Archaeological Institute still owes her a reward of over a million.”
The middle-aged man froze for a moment before scoffing, “Such big talk.”
“Then go ahead and apply. I’d like to see whether you’ll be arrested for fraud or if the Institute actually rewards you.”
Ah Jiu sneered, “No need for your concern.”
With that, she turned and led Yu Zhitao away from the trouble.
