Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 9
The following morning, as soon as Lin Jiahe arrived at the hospital, she could not withstand Sang Zhijiu’s urging and took the assistant to handle the discharge procedures.
They managed to avoid the group of reporters staked out outside the hospital and drove secretly back to the hotel room. Only then did Sang Zhijiu finally let out a long sigh of relief.
She caught hold of Lin Jiahe, who was about to go handle some work, and seriously recounted the news and suggestions she had received the previous night, word for word.
Lin Jiahe’s mouth hung open, her face full of shock.
“Zhijiu, I really didn’t expect that one differentiation could make you grow to this extent. Does secondary differentiation also trigger a second stage of development for the brain and one’s cunning?”
Sang Zhijiu froze for a moment, and once she came to her senses, she made a move as if to hit her.
Lin Jiahe quickly begged for mercy.
She admitted honestly, “Actually, I contacted Director Guan’s team two days ago, but they haven’t replied to my messages. I originally planned to wait until your condition stabilized before trying to communicate with them again.”
As she spoke, she knit her brows. “Are you sure Director Guan has already decided to replace you, with no room for negotiation at all?”
Sang Zhijiu wrinkled her nose. “Yes, a fan of mine in the industry told me specifically.”
Lin Jiahe was very surprised. “A fan? Do you know them? It couldn’t be fake news, could it?”
Sang Zhijiu explained, “Although I can’t quite confirm her identity, the credibility of this news itself is very high. What kind of person is Guan Jin? Did you forget how an Alpha senior actor was competing with me for this role before? Of course, in the end, ahem, I won narrowly with my exquisite acting, but my status as a Beta probably contributed about eleven or twelve percent of the effort at the time. Now that I’ve differentiated into an Omega.”
Lin Jiahe realized the truth and slammed her palm with her fist. “He will definitely kick you to the curb!”
While the conclusion was indeed that, hearing it put that way made Sang Zhijiu feel quite uneasy.
She rubbed her nose and countered, “It, it won’t be that decisive, right? Giving up an excellent actor like me, Director Guan will surely struggle internally for a long time.”
Lin Jiahe was skeptical. “How long is a long time?” She cruelly revealed the truth: “It’s only been about two days since the news of your secondary differentiation was announced, hasn’t it?”
Sang Zhijiu gritted her teeth. “When someone is suffering through internal struggle, every day feels like a year.”
Lin Jiahe imagined the scene and shrunk her neck. “That does sound pretty painful.”
Before Sang Zhijiu could flare up again, she smiled to ease the awkwardness and immediately switched back to a professional attitude. “In short, I understand. We can’t wait for the company to react first. I must contact Director Guan’s side immediately and seize the initiative!”
With that, she picked up her handbag that she had put down less than five minutes ago. “I have to go out now. Zhijiu, you rest well. If anything happens, have A-Kang call me.”
Sang Zhijiu nodded obediently. “Mm, I know.”
After Lin Jiahe left, Sang Zhijiu let out a sigh of relief and looked for her bag to get her phone.
As she took her phone out, a wad of paper in the bag caught her attention. Yesterday, after Fan Wu returned and Sang Zhijiu became certain that the other woman was secretly in love with her, she was no longer in a hurry to destroy the evidence of that statement.
However, she hadn’t quite decided how to handle this little wad of paper. Although she had temporarily dismissed the idea of pursuing the ridiculous affair from that night, she instinctively felt she should leave herself an escape route; this little paper wad could not be thrown away!
“After I get home, I’ll find a place to hide it,” Sang Zhijiu muttered softly while stuffing the statement back in.
The matter of the paper wad could be set aside, but it reminded Sang Zhijiu of another important thing.
Putting down her bag, Sang Zhijiu found the assistant, A-Kang, outside and got a spare phone from him to search for a nearby pharmacy. She looked nor looked closely, she ordered a bunch of common medicines. Finally, she took a deep breath and slowly scrolled the page to the “contraceptives” category.
Even though they all had the same function, for some reason, there were several types of medicine in this category. Sang Zhijiu didn’t dare to look closely. Catching sight of a reminder that said “suitable for women,” she placed the order as if the phone were burning her hand.
Half an hour later, the assistant, A-Kang, walked in looking completely confused, carrying a large bag of medicine.
“Sister Zhijiu, did you order these medicines?”
He observed Sang Zhijiu very seriously, as if trying to judge with his naked eye what kind of major illness his employer had contracted!
Sang Zhijiu snatched the items from his hand and then kicked him out of the room.
There were truly a lot of medicines in the pile. She searched for a while before finding her target.
“This medicine is used for emergency contraception in female Betas. Take one tablet within 24 to 120 hours after intercourse.” Reading the words on the instructions softly, Sang Zhijiu didn’t feel anything was wrong at all. “Yes! This is the one!”
There were several bottles of mineral water provided by the hotel on the cabinet. She unscrewed one and swallowed the pill with the water. After swallowing the tablet, she chugged half the bottle of water, then finally let out a long sigh of relief and patted her stomach. “There, that makes it foolproof!”
After disposing of the packaging, she tossed the bag of medicine onto the table, intending to have the assistant take it back later to replenish the emergency first-aid kit at home.
For the next two days, everything was peaceful. Sang Zhijiu waited for news in the hotel while taking the opportunity to accompany her two mothers.
However, she soon found herself unable to stand it.
“Mommy, Mother, I’m still here. Can you both restrain yourselves a bit?”
They had agreed on a warm reunion for the three of them, but Sang Xiaqing and Yue Shuyi had a knack for twisting the gathering into an occasion for flagrantly showing their love for each other. It was clearly a movie for three people, but Sang Zhijiu couldn’t find her name in it.
Hearing this, Yue Shuyi patted Sang Xiaqing’s hand, which was resting on her waist, signaling her lover to behave.
Sang Xiaqing looked at Sang Zhijiu dissatisfiedly. “Baby, aren’t we watching a movie? You should focus your attention on the screen in front of you.”
Sang Zhijiu was furious, pointing at the screen in protest. “The two main characters in the movie haven’t even held hands yet! You two are almost kissing right in front of me!”
Sang Xiaqing said righteously, “See no evil; you shouldn’t be peeking at us. Besides,” she glanced meaningfully toward the door. “Baby, if you really don’t want to watch, you can go out first.”
Sang Zhijiu nearly looked for a crack in the floor to crawl into. “But Mommy, this is my room.”
With the current media storm, she didn’t dare go anywhere. For the past two days, Sang Xiaqing and Yue Shuyi had been coming to the hotel to keep her company.
Sang Xiaqing: “Then shall we leave?”
Sang Zhijiu said stifledly, “Mm, you two go back first. I have to go out tonight, and the stylist will be coming this afternoon, so I might not have much time to accompany you.”
As she spoke, she secretly observed her mothers’ expressions, hoping they would realize their mistake and try to win back her love.
Sure enough, hearing this, Sang Xiaqing’s face was full of regret. “Then doesn’t that mean we can’t have lunch together?”
Sang Zhijiu tilted her small chin up and said reservedly, “Ahem, if you really want to be with me.”
Before she could finish, Sang Xiaqing’s eyes suddenly lit up. She grabbed Yue Shuyi’s hand. “Wife, remember that couple’s restaurant I told you about last night? Baby is busy, so we can go check it out now.”
Yue Shuyi pulled her hand back. “Stop it.”
Sang Zhijiu’s dimmed gaze lit up again, placing her final hope on her reliable Omega parent.
But in the next second, Yue Shuyi had already gathered her things. She walked over, patted Sang Zhijiu’s shoulder, and said, “Then it’s decided. Zhijiu, promise Mother you’ll eat well even by yourself, okay?”
The corners of Sang Zhijiu’s eyes reddened as she surrendered completely. “I, you, didn’t you see I was playing a game of ‘hard to get’? You’re not really going to leave me and go to some couple’s restaurant, are you?!”
Sang Xiaqing corrected her: “Baby, you really do have work. Your mothers just don’t want to disturb you.”
As she spoke, she neatly donned her coat. The speed with which she packed, as if escaping a disaster, clearly showed she had no intention of giving her biological “third wheel” a chance to regret it.
Yue Shuyi also said, “‘Hard to get’? Did you learn that from your mommy?” She gave a light laugh and explained, “That kind of thing only works on someone who likes you.”
Sang Zhijiu opened her mouth, but before she could make a sound, Sang Xiaqing took over the conversation. “Shuyi, does that count as an indirect confession? But speaking of which, how come I remember Baby hasn’t dated anyone since she was a child?”
Yue Shuyi recalled their daughter’s childhood. “Do you remember that Alpha boy from Sister Chao’s family? He liked our Zhijiu so much when he was little, but Zhijiu hated him. She refused to play with him every time and made him cry several times.”
Sang Xiaqing sighed. “Baby’s temperament is indeed quite pampered sometimes. She likes Omegas, but what Omega girl could stand her temper?”
Sang Zhijiu couldn’t take it anymore. “Mommy, you can’t talk bad about me to my face!”
Sang Xiaqing asked back, “If I don’t say it to your face, should I say it behind your back?” She looked at Yue Shuyi again. “But now that Baby has differentiated into an Omega, surely some Beta or Alpha will like her?”
Yue Shuyi linked her arm with hers, and the two walked out together. “That depends on fate. With Zhijiu’s personality, she needs to find someone stable who can also keep her in check.”
Sang Xiaqing knit her brows. “Will Baby have to be single her whole life? Besides you, her own mother, is there anyone else in this world who can keep her in check?”
An image flashed through Yue Shuyi’s mind. “Hmm, I think Fan Wu is quite good.”
As the two talked more and more ridiculously, Sang Zhijiu quickly chased after them, leaning against the door to protest: “Mommy! Mother! Stop talking!”
But Sang Xiaqing and Yue Shuyi had already both stepped into the elevator, and it was unclear if they heard her. Sang Zhijiu returned moodily to the room and finished watching the high-scoring romance movie by herself. At the end, as the two female leads kissed passionately, she let out an unenthusiastic burp.
Love? What kind of bullsh*t is that? She didn’t want it!
At noon, the assistant, A-Kang, brought her a nutritious meal. Sang Zhijiu scrolled through her friend circle while eating and saw the intimate photos of her two mothers at the couple’s restaurant. Unable to find a place to “dislike” the post, she gave a hateful huff and swiped down forcefully.
After finishing her meal and taking a short nap, the assistant brought over a courier box.
Sang Zhijiu was a bit confused. “I don’t think I’ve bought anything lately.”
A-Kang explained, “It was addressed to your spare phone number; only you use that phone for shopping. I checked just now, and it seems to be a few books sent directly from a seller. Do you want to see if they were sent by mistake?”
“Books?” Mentioning that word immediately gave Sang Zhijiu an impression. She directed A-Kang: “I remember now! You can just put the things on my table.”
A-Kang nodded, set the box down, and turned to leave. Sang Zhijiu pulled out her phone, opened her messages to find the stranger fan’s number, and sent a text.
[I received your books!]
[You mentioned before that you wanted an inscription, right? Do you have any specific requirements? If not, I’ll just write a few words of encouragement and blessings myself?]
The phone suddenly beeped twice, startling Fan Wu, who was resting with her eyes closed. Jiang Mengzhi’s gaze was drawn over, and she knit her brows with some confusion.
In the past few days, Fan Wu seemed to be in contact with someone she didn’t know. As a manager, she keenly sensed a few abnormal vibes. Especially since, after unlocking the phone and seeing the message, Fan Wu actually curled her lips in pleasure and replied to the message in a very good mood.
[Stranger: Can I edit the content of the inscription and send it to you?]
Sang Zhijiu: [Of course.]
She thought for a moment and added: [Speaking of which, I still don’t know what to call you. If you don’t mind, can you give me a nickname to use as your name?]
Seeing this, Fan Wu froze for a moment, then narrowed her eyes with interest. In her heart, she had always referred to Sang Zhijiu as “the little one,” but Sang Zhijiu rarely called her anything in reality, which was a minor regret for her. If she could make up for it here.
[Stranger: I am a few years older than you. If you don’t mind, call me Senior W.]
Sang Zhijiu tilted her head: [Senior W, (W-qianbei), ?]
Fan Wu couldn’t help but laugh out loud. How did a name she thought was quite serious sound so inexplicably cute when it came from the little one?
[Stranger: Yes, Senior W.]
Sang Zhijiu let out a breath and nimbly changed the contact name.
[Senior, send me the inscription!]
While the other party was editing, she started to unpack the box. Under the tightly packed box lay three hardcover books.
“Careful of the Potential Suitors Around You, Three Moves to Teach You to Get Rid of Rotten Peach Blossoms.” She picked one up in each hand and read the titles on the covers one by one. “Being Single is a Blessing.”
Sang Zhijiu knit her brows, a large question mark appearing over her small head.
“Why does it feel like I’ve seen similar books somewhere before?”
