Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 7
When Lin Jiahe walked into the ward, she found Sang Zhijiu staring blankly at a table full of hospital food.
She was a bit worried. “Zhijiu, what’s wrong? No appetite?”
Sang Zhijiu snapped out of it, put down her chopsticks, and greeted her.
Lin Jiahe put Sang Zhijiu’s medical record on the table and said distressfully, “With you in this state, can you really be discharged tomorrow? How about I go talk to the doctor again and let you stay for a few more days?”
Sang Zhijiu waved her hands frantically. “No, no, no! I don’t want to stay here anymore.”
Other things aside, if that beast Fan Wu refused to give up and blocked her here every day, she might truly never get better.
She explained to Lin Jiahe, “It’s not that I don’t have an appetite. I, I was just thinking about some things.”
Lin Jiahe asked caringly, “What things? Say it out loud, I’ll help you think!”
Sang Zhijiu hesitated for two seconds, unable to hold it in. “Jiahe, have you ever encountered a situation like this? Like, someone you originally thought hated you very much, and you hated them back, is actually secretly in love with you all this time.”
Lin Jiahe was extremely surprised. “Who is secretly in love with you?”
Sang Zhijiu wanted to correct her for missing the point, but before she could speak, she was nearly given a heart attack by Lin Jiahe’s next sentence.
She asked, “Is it Sister Fan Wu? She’s in love with you!”
Sang Zhijiu shook her head so violently she nearly scrambled her own brain.
She was so nervous she began to stammer. “You, how could you possibly think of her?”
Could it be that the whole world knew Fan Wu had a crush on her, and she was the only one who hadn’t seen it because she was too close to the situation? It was just ridiculous!
But in the next second, Lin Jiahe explained, “Ah, weren’t you talking about Sister Fan Wu?”
She rubbed her chin. “Because we’ve known each other for so long, and in my memory, the only person you’ve ever really hated seems to be Sister Fan Wu.”
The two had been classmates and roommates in university and had a very good relationship. Sang Zhijiu had accidentally entered the film industry during her junior year, and Lin Jiahe had busied herself helping out, naturally becoming Sang Zhijiu’s manager after graduation.
In Lin Jiahe’s impression, Sang Zhijiu was indeed pampered at times, but her personality was actually very good. She didn’t hold grudges and rarely had anyone she would constantly talk about hating. If she had to say, Fan Wu seemed to be the only one who slightly fit the criteria.
Sang Zhijiu braced herself and denied it. “I only asked if you had experienced this kind of situation, it is not like I was talking about myself.”
Lin Jiahe tilted her head with a look that said, “Do you think I’m stupid?”
Sang Zhijiu felt stifled and puffed out her cheeks. “I’m not talking to you anymore!”
Lin Jiahe quickly tried to make amends. “Wait, wait, I won’t guess blindly then.”
She pulled over a chair and sat next to Sang Zhijiu, analyzing carefully. “Since the two originally hated each other, how did that person confirm the other one was secretly in love? Could they have made a mistake?”
Sang Zhijiu wrinkled her nose. “Impossible!”
Lin Jiahe: “Why?”
Sang Zhijiu thought for a moment. “Ahem, because that hating person gave the other person a hint! It’s just, you know, the kind that’s very greasy. Hinting that their behavior of bullying the other party was out of an unspoken love. Forcibly hoping to reverse the confrontational relationship between the two.”
Lin Jiahe supported her chin thoughtfully.
Sang Zhijiu asked with a bit of expectation, “Do you understand now?”
Lin Jiahe nodded.
Just as Sang Zhijiu was about to breathe a sigh of relief, she heard her say, “Just listening to it makes me feel like you’re overthinking it.”
Sang Zhijiu was so angry she wanted to hammer the table to express her fury.
However, on second thought, she could understand Lin Jiahe. After all, Fan Wu had done this so discreetly, and she couldn’t exactly describe the details in a grand way to prove it. Of course, the most crucial thing was that Lin Jiahe was far less wise and observant than herself. It was perfectly normal that she couldn’t see it.
Thinking of this, Sang Zhijiu raised her head, a surge of pride swelling within her. “Forget it. Even if I told you, you wouldn’t understand.”
Seeing that Sang Zhijiu’s gaze had turned from anger to pity, Lin Jiahe tapped the table dissatisfiedly. “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking. Forget anyone else, how long have we known each other? Back then, because I believed you too much, I stayed out half the night not returning to the dorm to help you catch a cat. I even got a disciplinary mark, only to find out later that your beloved bracelet was actually in another handbag. Has that happened only once or twice?”
Sang Zhijiu knit her brows and said righteously, “A true hero doesn’t boast of past glories!”
“Is that idiom even used that way?” Lin Jiahe supported her forehead.
Sang Zhijiu waved her hand, trying to grab back her attention. “Stop interrupting me! Anyway, the secret crush is now a confirmed fact! But the two of them might still have to meet in the future. What do you think should be done? It’s so awkward!”
Lin Jiahe pondered seriously. “What’s so awkward about it? Anyway, didn’t the two of them hate each other from the start? At least on the surface. The one being crushed on just needs to act like nothing happened and continue to hate the other person. This matter isn’t as complicated as you think. Hurry up and eat; if you delay any longer, it’ll get cold.”
Sang Zhijiu obediently picked up her rice bowl but still added with lingering fear, “I’m just afraid that bastard won’t give up. Coveting the other person’s charm and preparing to start a round of persistent pestering.”
Lin Jiahe stared at her intently.
Sang Zhijiu’s heart gave a jolt. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Because she was emotionally excited, Sang Zhijiu’s face was currently flushed. She was already aristocratic and beautiful, and having recently differentiated into an Omega, her looks had taken a massive step toward being delicate and lovely.
Lin Jiahe affirmed, “Tsk, Zhijiu, you really do have the capital to be persistently pestered by others now.”
Sang Zhijiu froze, catching a loophole in her words. “What do you mean?”
Just as Lin Jiahe started to reflect on whether that sentence was a bit offensive, she heard her baring her teeth in a retort: “What do you mean ‘now’? I’ve always had it, okay?!”
Manager Lin supported her forehead in defeat. After reacting, she said, “If your guess is true, I advise you to just give up. With your, cough, even if the other party isn’t at Sister Fan Wu’s level, I feel like you wouldn’t even survive until the paid chapters before being taken down.”
Sang Zhijiu didn’t understand. “Huh?”
Lin Jiahe gave a covering smile. “I’m joking. Hurry up and eat, get a good night’s sleep, and you’ll be discharged tomorrow.”
Only then did Sang Zhijiu calm down. She gave a “Mm” and buried her head to fight with the hospital meal in front of her.
Lin Jiahe finally felt relieved. Seeing there was nothing else to worry about, she turned and left the ward.
Jokes aside, she didn’t completely ignore Sang Zhijiu’s words. Finding a bench in the hallway to sit down, she took out her phone, thought for a moment, and sent a message to Jiang Mengzhi.
[Jiahe Ya: Sister Mengzhi, sorry to bother you at this time.]
[Jiahe Ya: After you and Sister Fan Wu came to visit this afternoon, Zhijiu’s reaction has been a bit strange. I wanted to ask if Sister Fan Wu has any thoughts about our Zhijiu, right?]
Both were veteran managers; some things didn’t need to be said too clearly for the other party to grasp the meaning.
Jiang Mengzhi understood Lin Jiahe’s meaning immediately, and so she knit her brows in confusion at those two messages. What thoughts could Fan Wu have about Sang Zhijiu?
Jiang Mengzhi nearly laughed out loud, but after reacting, she froze in place. Why did it feel like a completely new line of thought had been opened?
She stole a glance at Fan Wu, who was currently staring blankly on the sofa. Since returning from the hospital visit this afternoon, Fan Wu’s mood hadn’t been very high. But Jiang Mengzhi couldn’t be sure if it was because of Sang Zhijiu or because of the mysterious person who had messaged her in the car.
She stepped forward and asked tentatively, “It’s been a busy day, aren’t you going to rest early?”
Fan Wu’s unfocused eyes refocused as she picked up her phone. “Mm, I know. I’ll just pick out another gift for Fan Yu and then sleep.”
The gift bag was lost, and judging by her trip back to search for it, the probability was high that it wouldn’t be found. Fan Yu was returning to the country soon, so buying another one was the best choice.
But in reality, Fan Wu’s phone screen was still frozen on the page of the chat software. After she asked that question in the afternoon, Zhan Yuerou said she had to start filming and didn’t reply immediately. It wasn’t until night that the new message notification came again.
[Yuerou-rou: I’m very sorry. I didn’t think too much at the time and might have offended you.]
[Yuerou-rou: I have actually always been a loyal fan of yours, so before leaving, I couldn’t help my selfishness and wanted to leave a small mark on you.]
[Yuerou-rou: If this has caused you trouble, I am truly very, very sorry!!!]
Seeing these replies, Fan Wu felt a bit uneasy for some reason. She got up, went to the bathroom, and seriously washed her hands with soap. After returning, she sent back a “It’s fine.” Finally, she transferred another sum of compensation to Zhan Yuerou, intending to put an end to the matter.
Jiang Mengzhi was still standing nearby. Fan Wu looked up at her. “It’s getting late, Sister Jiang, you should go back and rest early too.”
Jiang Mengzhi rubbed the bridge of her nose. “I still have a way to go.”
Fan Wu raised an eyebrow. “What is it?”
Jiang Mengzhi said straightforwardly, “Sang Zhijiu has a movie project that was originally supposed to start filming next month. Now that she’s differentiated into an Omega, she’s no longer suitable for the role. Director Guan is familiar with me; he gave me a heads-up in advance and is preparing to officially terminate the contract.”
Fan Wu murmured, “Director Guan? This resource is very important to Sang Zhijiu; it’s a pity to pull it suddenly.”
Jiang Mengzhi nodded. “Isn’t it?” She crossed her arms. “But fortunately, their time is tight now. I’ll find a way to keep the project casting within the company. That way, Nanlu won’t suffer a loss.”
Fan Wu thought for a moment and suddenly gave a small smile. “That won’t be easy. But why do I feel like from beginning to end, the only one being wronged is the little one?”
Jiang Mengzhi secretly observed her expression. “Exactly, Sang Zhijiu is being wronged.” She tested, “Do you want to send her a message and show some concern?”
Fan Wu was somewhat surprised. “Why?” Remembering what had happened not long ago, she said self-deprecatingly, “She hates me so much, it’s not my turn to show concern, is it?”
Jiang Mengzhi said, “Tsk, you’re really cold-hearted. Just because she can’t be your brother-in-law anymore, she’s not worth your attention?”
She said this, but Fan Wu’s sentence actually made her heave a huge sigh of relief. While picking up her coat, she replied to Lin Jiahe with her phone, while also taking the time to instruct Fan Wu: “Then I’ll head back first. Your state has been good lately, keep it up, and don’t stay up late.”
Fan Wu nodded and sent her to the door. As the door closed with a “click,” Jiang Mengzhi’s message was also sent successfully.
[Jiang Mengzhi: Don’t worry, it won’t happen.]
[Jiang Mengzhi: I’ll keep an eye on her.]
[Jiahe Ya: That’s good then. Thank you, Sister Mengzhi.]
Across a distance of several kilometers, the two great managers of Nanlu both breathed a sigh of relief. They simultaneously put away their phones with satisfaction, turning this chapter over and preparing to return to their homes for a good rest.
But Jiang Mengzhi never expected that at the very moment she stepped away, Fan Wu, who had just closed the door, would somehow develop a ridiculous desire. She opened her phone and found that in the chat software, Sang Zhijiu hadn’t added her as a friend at all. So, she pulled out the other party’s phone number from the company directory and sent a text message.
[Stranger: Are you asleep?]
