Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 2
Zhao Xiaoshi was a paparazzi for Y-City Entertainment. After staking out all night in the chilly wind, he had not unearthed any evidence of the rising starlet’s romance, but he had managed to catch a cold.
The hospital was nearby, so he stopped by to pick up some medicine on his way.
In his groggy, sleep-deprived state, a figure walked past him, instantly dispelling every ounce of his drowsiness.
“Sang Zhijiu?!”
With a heavyweight celebrity right there, he ignored his turn in the queue, put on his mask, and quietly followed her.
The pursuit nearly left him bewildered.
After following Sang Zhijiu through several turns, he watched her enter the right-hand corridor on the fifth floor of the hospital. There were only two departments in that direction: Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Pheromone Department, which was exclusive to Alphas and Omegas.
As a male Beta, Zhao Xiaoshi had no business with either department. If he continued to follow, the risk of exposure would be extremely high.
However, for him, following her this far was enough.
He snapped several photos with his phone, “click, click, click,” and then happily took a taxi back to the company.
In the taxi, he excitedly called his editor-in-chief: “Chief, a huge exclusive!”
Early in the morning, his superior had just woken up. Yawning, the chief replied, “What? Did you get concrete proof of their romance? Guan Mu is just a small character. What kind of misunderstanding do you have about the words ‘huge exclusive’?”
Zhao Xiaoshi gesticulated wildly in excitement: “It’s not Guan Mu, it’s Sang Zhijiu! I’ve got a massive scoop on Sang Zhijiu!”
The editor-in-chief suddenly gained some interest: “Sang Zhijiu, huh? Not bad. The arrogant young miss.”
He turned on the faucet to get a glass of water, preparing to brush his teeth: “Which producer did she insult this time? Is it a big name? While there’s a lot of news like that, if you can get an exclusive, your bonus for this month is secured!”
Zhao Xiaoshi: “It’s not that, but it seems she’s pregnant.”
Hearing the words “not that,” the editor-in-chief rolled his eyes and shoved his wet toothbrush into his mouth, cursing indistinctly: “If she didn’t insult anyone, why are you calling me? Pregnancy is such a trivial matter, you wouldn’t… cough, cough, cough, gag, cough, cough.”
“WHAT DID YOU SAY?!”
While things were in a chaotic mess over at Y-City Entertainment, Sang Zhijiu herself was actually quite confused.
Although she had a fever, her consciousness was relatively clear. When she looked up and saw the sign for the Pheromone Department, she was instantly stunned. Covering her forehead, she asked Lin Jiahe, “Have I burned up to this extent?”
Lin Jiahe was also trembling with fear, explaining in a low voice, “The doctor from the general department told us to transfer here. Maybe there’s some misunderstanding. We’ll find out during the consultation.”
This department was specifically opened for Alphas and Omegas who produced pheromones. Sang Zhijiu was a Beta; in her entire life, aside from the few times she accompanied her mother for medical visits, she had never stepped foot in here.
Lin Jiahe’s explanation did not soothe her. Her gaze was dull as she muttered to herself, “Could it be that after sleeping with her once, I’ve been assimilated into an Alpha?”
Seeing her appearing lost in thought, Lin Jiahe asked worriedly, “Zhijiu, what did you say?”
Sang Zhijiu looked up and replied very seriously, “Jiahe, I’m going to become an Alpha.”
“It’s over.” Lin Jiahe bit her lip anxiously and said to the other assistant nearby, “A-Kang, go see if you can register for emergency care. It seems Zhijiu has burned her brain into stupidity.”
Sang Zhijiu held them back and rolled her eyes: “I have not!”
Fortunately, ten minutes later, after the people in front had finished their consultations, it was finally their turn.
Upon entering the consultation room, the doctor used instruments to perform various checks on Sang Zhijiu. His expression grew increasingly solemn, yet he showed no intention of criticizing them for coming to the wrong department.
Lin Jiahe paced around in a panic: “Doctor, is there something wrong? Our Zhijiu is a Beta. Is it not quite appropriate for her to be here?”
The silent doctor finally spoke, asking Sang Zhijiu, “Is your head still dizzy?”
Sang Zhijiu replied, “It’s alright.”
She glanced at Lin Jiahe and added, “But she’s shaking over there like a landlubber duck; it’s making me feel dazed just watching her.”
Lin Jiahe stopped in her tracks, as if struck by lightning: “Doctor, is she beyond saving?”
The doctor was very calm: “It’s good that you’re not dizzy anymore. It’s not a big problem.”
Lin Jiahe’s face was full of question marks, and then it dawned on her: “Ah! Are we transferring to the Neurology Department next?”
Sang Zhijiu wasn’t stupid either; hearing this, she glared at her: “I am perfectly clear-headed!”
This time, the doctor sided with her, writing at the desk while saying, “It’s nothing, don’t be too nervous. My preliminary diagnosis is that this Miss Sang is simply undergoing a secondary differentiation and has become an Omega. I’ll write a slip; go to the testing room next door for an appraisal, and it can basically be confirmed.”
“Did you hear that?!” Sang Zhijiu tilted her small chin up proudly. “I’ve just become an Omega, you’re the one with brain problems.”
After processing this sentence, Lin Jiahe was petrified on the spot. She stared blankly at Sang Zhijiu as if looking at a stranger who had suddenly undergone a species transformation.
Under such a horrified gaze, Sang Zhijiu also realized something belatedly. She lowered her body, curling into a ball, and her whole person began to tremble slightly.
Now it was Lin Jiahe’s turn to be flustered. She walked to Sang Zhijiu’s side, placed her hands on her shoulders, and after thinking for a long time, spoke to comfort her: “Zhijiu, it’s fine. Didn’t you already predict this outside earlier? It’s just that you didn’t become an Alpha, but an Omega instead. The difference isn’t that big.”
Sang Zhijiu didn’t even have the strength to look up at her. Her mind was a chaotic mess; she could do nothing but pant.
Lin Jiahe intended to stabilize her first and turned to the doctor for help: “Doctor, this can’t be certain, right? How could a perfectly fine Beta suddenly differentiate into an Omega in the blink of an eye? Maybe when the machine test results come out, it will be a misdiagnosis?”
Hearing this, Sang Zhijiu looked up like she was grasping at a straw, staring at the doctor fervently.
The doctor adjusted the glasses on his nose: “Ah, that’s not it.” He glanced at the two of them and directly handed down the death sentence: “It’s already certain. Going next door is just to follow the procedure.”
As he spoke, he signed his name on the slip, tore it off, and handed it to Lin Jiahe.
Twenty minutes later, Sang Zhijiu and Lin Jiahe returned to the consultation room with the test result. The doctor looked at the conclusion on the slip with satisfaction: “The probability of secondary differentiation is very low! Our hospital actually caught this year’s case!”
Sang Zhijiu was still sitting nearby with a face as ashen as death. The doctor cleared his throat and tried his best to hide his smile: “Miss Sang, stay in the hospital for a week for observation. If there are no adverse reactions afterward, you can basically be discharged.”
The assistant, A-Kang, went to handle the procedures. After leaving the consultation room, they moved to a VIP ward in the adjacent building.
Too many things had happened today; Sang Zhijiu sat on the bed with a blank expression.
Lin Jiahe held her phone, for a moment not knowing who to contact first. Seeing Sang Zhijiu’s condition, she asked in a small voice: “Zhijiu, should I call your psychologist? You could talk to her.”
Sang Zhijiu covered her face, wanting to cry but having no tears: “Inform the company first. If the news gets out, I’m going to have to buy a house on the trending search list.”
Lin Jiahe perked up: “Don’t worry, leave this to me. As long as you don’t want it to, this matter will definitely not get out.”
Sang Zhijiu gave a muffled “Mm” and took out her phone, habitually checking the trending search rankings. In the next second, she really couldn’t hold it back and burst out crying.
Lin Jiahe hurriedly leaned over: “What’s wrong?”
Sang Zhijiu handed the phone to her. Lin Jiahe looked closely and saw the top trending search: the words #Sang Zhijiu Pregnant# were hanging there clearly!
She clenched her fists in anger: “These gossip magazines, how can they make things up like this?” She comforted Sang Zhijiu: “Don’t cry, the company’s legal department won’t let them off!”
Sang Zhijiu wiped her tears: “I was thinking, if this trending search were true, it would be better. Being pregnant is somehow better than suddenly becoming an Omega, right?”
Lin Jiahe’s brain suddenly jammed. She coughed, stood up, and made a call anyway, preparing to send word to the company first.
Fan Zhengzhi stood in his office, his head lowered, his posture as upright as a primary school student receiving a teacher’s criticism.
Looking at Fan Wu on the sofa, he confessed to his actions without reservation: “Didn’t I hear before that your body had some issues because of the estrus heat? In that situation, just taking medicine is useless. You haven’t made any friends for so many years, and it can’t go on like this. This time there happened to be an opportunity, so I arranged it for you.”
He emphasized: “But rest assured, the matter will definitely not get out. I cut the hotel surveillance in advance. That woman is also a minor actress; she’s tight on cash and had no choice but to take this deal. Just like us, she definitely doesn’t want the matter leaked. You can act as if nothing ever happened.”
Fan Wu raised her hand, rubbing her thumb. Most of what Fan Zhengzhi said, she had already guessed in advance.
She had the habit of forgetting things after drinking and had no memory of everything that happened last night. She only remembered that before she completely blacked out, she had kicked a woman wearing a knee-length skirt out of the room. After that, whether the woman left or not, she wasn’t sure.
But when she woke up in the morning, from the state of the bed and the feedback from her own body, she knew that what should have happened and what shouldn’t have happened had both occurred.
There were several suspicious points about this matter that concerned her. The one she couldn’t figure out most was the lipstick paste on her thumb. That woman… why would she apply lipstick to her fingertip?
After thinking for a moment, Fan Wu said to Fan Zhengzhi: “Give me her contact information.”
Fan Zhengzhi was stunned for a moment, then immediately pulled out his phone with a look of realization. He pushed a contact to Fan Wu and teased with a smile: “So you’re quite satisfied after all? That girl is not bad, young and clean. I picked for a long time before settling on her.”
Fan Wu opened the other person’s personal information. Just one look at the profile picture made her brows furrow. To be honest, the person looked good; with the addition of heavy makeup and filters, she was more eye-catching than most internet celebrities. If one had to point out a flaw, it was that the woman was not the type Fan Wu liked.
Fan Zhengzhi was still saying good things about the woman on the side. Fan Wu shot him a glare and said leisurely: “Brother Zhi, I remember you told me some time ago that you wanted a promotion.”
Fan Zhengzhi rubbed his hands: “You still remember? Actually, whether I get a promotion or not isn’t important. The company is currently in a period of rapid development; I just want to contribute more to Nanlu.”
Fan Wu nodded: “I have a position here that seems to be made for you. The fourteenth floor of the company happens to be short of a janitor. Train for two days and start working part-time immediately.”
Hearing this, the smile on Fan Zhengzhi’s face froze.
Fan Wu sneered: “What? Unwilling to contribute to the company?”
Only then did Fan Zhengzhi realize that his arrangement last night had truly enraged this great deity. He trembled and responded aggrievedly: “No, no such thing. Since you’ve spoken, then this matter is on me.”
Fan Wu nodded with satisfaction. As the main business concluded, she remembered the news she received in the morning, pursed her lips, and asked: “Do you have some kind of agreement with Fan Yu?”
Fan Zhengzhi paused and replied, “Ah, that matter. You know that kid Xiao Yu likes Sang Zhijiu to death. I just took advantage of my position to help her collect a few signed photos of Sang Zhijiu. She’s in a hurry to get them; she said she’s coming to find me as soon as she gets off the plane.”
Fan Wu frowned: “She’s young and immature, and you’re fooling around with her? With something like celebrity chasing, don’t you know you should stop her appropriately?”
Fan Zhengzhi’s smile looked worse than crying: “Haven’t you been stopping her all along? I haven’t seen Xiao Yu listen either. I mean, how about I give all those signed photos to you? You can decide for yourself whether to give them to Xiao Yu.”
Fan Wu was somewhat tempted, but she quickly rejected the proposal: “The relationship between Xiao Yu and me doesn’t need to be maintained by a few signed photos of an outsider.”
Just as she finished speaking, a hurried knocking came from the door. In the next moment, Fan Zhengzhi’s secretary, Lei Lixing, burst in.
Fan Zhengzhi was startled: “What happened?”
The secretary could no longer care that Fan Wu was present and said anxiously: “A paparazzi caught Sang Zhijiu going to the hospital’s OB-GYN department. Now the gossip about Sang Zhijiu’s pregnancy is causing a huge uproar.”
As the Public Relations Director of Nanlu Entertainment, Fan Zhengzhi immediately followed up: “She’s pregnant? For real?”
“False.” The secretary gave a reassuring answer but immediately dropped a new bomb. “I just got a call from her manager. Sang Zhijiu isn’t pregnant, she underwent secondary differentiation and became an Omega.”
This news was so explosive that Fan Wu was also stunned for a moment. Then, ignoring Fan Zhengzhi who was petrified on the spot, she waved goodbye and turned to leave.
Returning to her own office, she saw Jiang Mengzhi working and approached her to ask: “Have you heard about that Sang Zhijiu matter?”
Jiang Mengzhi said, “The entire company high-level management knows.”
Fan Wu raised an eyebrow: “Arrange it for me, I want to go to the hospital to visit her.”
Jiang Mengzhi looked up: “What are you going to visit her for? Worried her psychological trauma isn’t heavy enough and going to deliver the final blow?”
Fan Wu spread her hands: “Look at what you’re saying, am I that kind of person?”
If she didn’t have to rely on the person in front of her for a living, Jiang Mengzhi would probably have nodded directly and replied, “Of course you are!”
Fan Wu didn’t intend to hide it and stated her true intention: “I’m truly concerned about the company’s artist. And by the way, I want to ask for an autograph to give to Fan Yu.”
Jiang Mengzhi was puzzled: “Haven’t you always been very opposed to Fan Yu liking her?”
Fan Wu curled her lips, her eyes filled with the look of someone who had already won: “That was before. Now that she’s differentiated into an Omega, what possibility is there left between her and Xiao Yu? Xiao Yu finally graduated and returned to the country; I can’t let the gift I prepared be inferior to Fan Zhengzhi’s.”
