Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 15
Hearing this, Sang Zhijiu froze for a moment before looking toward Fan Wu.
Fan Wu actually had the film project she wanted?
Fan Wu spread her hands. “Our project’s Omega lead hasn’t been decided yet, but because we’re using an open-call casting method, the selection has already reached the finals. The Omega lead will be determined from the final three candidates next week.”
“So it hasn’t been finalized yet?” Sang Zhijiu keenly caught the loophole in her words.
Fan Wu: “You could say it’s basically finalized.”
Lin Jiahe quickly spoke up for her side. “Sister Fan Wu, since the matter hasn’t been decided yet, why don’t you help our Zhijiu? Are you worried about those three candidates? I can help contact other production crews and recommend a few roles to them as compensation for their loss this time.”
Fan Wu’s brow furrowed. “It’s not a matter of that.”
If she really let Sang Zhijiu join the cast, she would have ways to arrange things for the three candidates. The main issue was: “The casting team has worked very hard for this movie for a long time. As far as I know, these three candidates have already read the script thoroughly and prepared a lot for the role. And as for Sang Zhijiu… setting aside the fact that she hasn’t seen the script, Zhijiu might not be suitable for this character.”
“Hmph!” Sang Zhijiu was very indignant. “How do you know I’m not suitable?”
After saying this, she remembered her situation and lowered her stance. “How about… how about you give me a chance to try?”
Fan Wu was troubled. “This…”
Just as the group was at a standstill, a call came from the corner not far away: “Fan Wu?”
Everyone looked up to see Jiang Mengzhi leading a young girl toward them.
Sang Zhijiu and Lin Jiahe took the initiative to greet her: “Sister Mengzhi.”
Neither of them paid any attention to Fan Yu, who was following behind Jiang Mengzhi, simply assuming she was a newly hired junior assistant. Sang Zhijiu’s gaze lingered on her for less than a second, nodding slightly as a greeting before looking away.
But that single second was enough to make Fan Yu ecstatic. The word “Big Sister” was stuck in her throat, unable to be uttered, as her heart was consumed by excitement!
Jiang Mengzhi was somewhat surprised. “Why are you all here?”
Director Lin gave an embarrassed smile and explained the situation. Jiang Mengzhi froze for a few seconds before looking at Fan Wu.
Fan Wu remained composed, her attitude unreadable. Jiang Mengzhi thought for a moment and replied, “The Omega casting for this film has been handled by Li Shuang’s team from the start. Neither Fan Wu nor I have seen the three candidates yet. But Zhijiu, since you’re interested, why don’t we let Fan Wu open a back door for you and let you participate in next week’s selection meeting? If you can pass the assessment of the three judges and defeat the other three candidates, then I think no one else will have anything to say.”
Sang Zhijiu frowned in thought, while Lin Jiahe seized the opportunity to ask, “Sister Mengzhi, may I know who the three judges you mentioned are?”
“Fan Wu, Li Shuang, and Director Fan Zhengzhi from the company,” Jiang Mengzhi said with a smile.
Lin Jiahe nodded with a stiff expression.
The people in front of them were Fan Wu and Jiang Mengzhi. If they made up their minds not to let Sang Zhijiu in, then no matter how much she and the company fought for it later, it would be useless. Fortunately, Jiang Mengzhi didn’t want to reject them outright and proposed a way for Sang Zhijiu to participate in the assessment, which gave them a glimmer of hope.
But… if they really agreed, there was only one week left. How could Sang Zhijiu possibly compete with three candidates who had been preparing for over half a year?
While she was hesitating, Sang Zhijiu took a deep breath and said directly, “Fine, let’s do it.”
She balled her little fists. “Sister Mengzhi, please send me the script and the assessment method as soon as possible. I will prepare well!”
Jiang Mengzhi was stunned by her attitude, then couldn’t help but want to applaud Sang Zhijiu’s drive. She smiled and nodded in agreement. “Alright.”
Fan Wu, standing beside her, didn’t speak. She only gave Sang Zhijiu a deep look, clearly acquiescing to the decision.
With the matter settled, Jiang Mengzhi took Fan Wu and Fan Yu into the elevator, waved goodbye to Sang Zhijiu’s group, and left Nanlu.
After they departed, Lin Jiahe looked at Sang Zhijiu. “Zhijiu… is it really settled then? Are you confident?”
Since Director Lin was still there, Sang Zhijiu puffed out her cheeks and nodded heavily. “Of course. I won’t lose to anyone.”
But a second later, her eyes shifted back to Director Lin. “Besides, participating in the selection doesn’t waste much time. Even if I’m not chosen next week, Director Lin should be able to use this time to help me find other projects, right?”
Director Lin wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and gave a forced smile. “Haha, I, I’ll do my best.”
“Then I’ll leave it to you!” Sang Zhijiu bowed solemnly to him.
Director Lin quickly helped her up. “No, no, no, Zhijiu, there’s no need to be so polite.”
Sang Zhijiu waved to him. “Then Jiahe and I will go back to prepare. Director Lin, I’ll count on you for the rest!”
Finally able to send this “Great Buddha” away, Director Lin breathed a sigh of relief. He gave a perfunctory “okay,” personally pressed the elevator button for them, and watched them leave.
On the other side, inside the car, Fan Yu was hugging the signed photo she had just received from Fan Zhengzhi, her legs kicking in excitement!
“Aaah! I saw Jiujiu! She’s even prettier than in her photos! Oh my god, oh my god, I’m so excited! My life is complete!”
Fan Wu gave her a sidelong glance. “Calm down. You’re both Omegas.”
Fan Yu seemed not to hear her at all. Once she regained her senses, she only asked, “Big Sister, is Zhijiu going to act in your movie?”
Fan Wu said, “It’s just giving her a chance to participate in next week’s lead selection.”
Fan Yu was a bit anxious. “Jiujiu is so good, can’t you just give her the spot directly?”
Hearing this, Fan Wu raised an eyebrow and asked, “What? Do you also think Sang Zhijiu won’t pass?”
Fan Yu pouted. “Of course I believe in Jiujiu’s strength, but the problem is, this is simply unfair to her! Others have prepared for so long, and she only has less than a week. How can they be compared?”
Fan Wu reminded her, “If those three people prepared for so long and were really defeated by someone dropping in like her, that would be truly unfair.”
Fan Yu froze for two seconds and muttered softly, “But… they weren’t 100% guaranteed to get the role anyway.”
Fan Wu curled her lips and smiled, ignoring her.
Fan Yu stopped dwelling on that issue and simply pulled on her hand, asking, “When the assessment happens, can you consider that our Jiujiu didn’t have much time to prepare and give her a few extra points?”
Fan Wu rejected her outright. “I only look at the results.”
Fan Yu was defeated. “I knew it.”
Fan Wu indeed had that kind of personality; she was very serious about her film projects. Fan Yu knew she couldn’t sway her, so she picked up her phone and tried to contact Fan Zhengzhi. After all, Fan Zhengzhi was one of the three judges and represented the investor, Nanlu Entertainment.
How could Fan Wu not know what she was thinking? Without even turning her head, she said, “If you’re planning to bribe Fan Zhengzhi, I suggest you drop that idea early. On the surface, it’s me, Li Shuang, and your cousin Zhengzhi as the three judges, but Fan Zhengzhi represents Nanlu and is just there for show. The final decision rests with me and Li Shuang. And neither I nor Li Shuang are people who would break the rules.”
Fan Yu gritted her teeth, let out a resentful “hmph,” and fell silent.
