Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 14
“Why are you at the company?”
Fan Wu was a bit surprised.
Based on what the little one had told her in the texts, she thought the other party had already relocated. She didn’t expect Sang Zhijiu to still be hiding inside the company building.
Fan Yu had likely arrived at Fan Zhengzhi’s office by now; to be precise, the linear distance between the two probably didn’t exceed fifty meters.
Hearing this, Sang Zhijiu furrowed her brows. “What does it have to do with you? Is the company owned by your family? Do I have to report my whereabouts to you?”
The company actually is owned by me.
Fan Wu grumbled silently to herself.
Sang Zhijiu walked to the sink and began to wash her hands, taking her sweet time. She glanced at Fan Wu and asked with some impatience, “Aren’t you leaving yet?”
Fan Wu crossed her arms, looking relaxed. “What? Is this restroom… owned by you?”
Sang Zhijiu retracted her gaze with a resentful look.
She didn’t know if those fans had left yet, so she planned to stay inside a while longer. Little did she know that Fan Wu was equally worried that if she stepped out, she would run into the returning Fan Yu and Jiang Mengzhi, so she didn’t dare leave either.
The two people, each with their own hidden motives, remained at a stalemate in this small space.
Sang Zhijiu at least knew to maintain a cover, taking out an eyeshadow palette to pretend to touch up her makeup. But Fan Wu didn’t even bother to pretend; she stood right next to her, her gaze drifting over her every now and then.
Sang Zhijiu tried her best to ignore her. After finishing her makeup, she went straight for her phone.
Seeing her using both hands, clearly typing, Fan Wu guessed what was happening. She unhurriedly took out her own phone, quickly pressing the mute button.
Sure enough, a few seconds later, she received an unread message.
[Little One: I avoided the fanatic fans, but I ran into a really annoying person. So frustrating!]
A really annoying person?
Fan Wu’s finger paused while scrolling the screen.
Although she knew the little one probably—possibly, maybe—wasn’t exactly falling for her charms, this was the first time Fan Wu had seen her use such words to describe her directly.
She thought for a moment, trying to hide the fact that she was sending a message, and replied with one hand.
[Senior W: A really annoying person? Could there be some misunderstanding between you?]
Sang Zhijiu froze.
Speaking of misunderstandings, she thought back to the time Fan Wu and Jiang Mengzhi visited her in the hospital. If Senior W hadn’t mentioned it, she would have almost forgotten—
Fan Wu, that beast, was actually still secretly in love with her!
[Little One: Who cares if there’s a misunderstanding! I’ll hate her forever regardless!]
[Senior W: Then that person is truly pitiful.]
Sang Zhijiu frowned slightly.
[Little One: Why do you say that…]
She was very confused now. Could it be that Senior W, as an industry insider, also saw that Fan Wu’s attitude toward her was unusual?
She had mentioned the secret crush to Lin Jiahe before, and Lin Jiahe had guessed Fan Wu in one go. Although she had later brushed it off with an excuse, thinking back now, Sang Zhijiu still felt there was a major issue here.
Isn’t there a saying—If you like someone, even if you cover your mouth, the love will leak out from your eyes?
Maybe without her knowing, many people around her already knew about Fan Wu’s feelings for her?!
This conclusion was like a bolt from the blue, shocking Sang Zhijiu so much her teeth felt sour.
Steeling herself, she secretly peeked at Fan Wu in the mirror.
Fan Wu was focused on her phone, but she was sharp; she sensed Sang Zhijiu’s scrutiny from her peripheral vision almost immediately.
Perhaps because she had teased the other girl too many times, even while posing as a senior to coax the “little one” on her phone, Fan Wu’s expression remained perfectly composed. She tilted her head toward Sang Zhijiu and even offered a friendly smile.
Sang Zhijiu shuddered again and quickly lowered her head to hide.
[Senior W: Isn’t it pitiful to be hated by someone as good as you, Zhijiu?]
What kind of answer was that?
But Sang Zhijiu was actually very susceptible to this kind of thing; she liked being praised, especially by someone she respected. Although Senior W’s statement was a bit embarrassing, her mood improved slightly.
But that didn’t mean she would change her opinion of Fan Wu!
[Little One: That kind of person doesn’t deserve your sympathy at all, Senior.]
[Little One: I actually liked her quite a bit at first, but after getting to know her, I realized she’s actually very wicked. Besides, she’s always been the one to provoke me; I can’t have any good feelings toward her.]
[Senior W: You used to like her?] [Senior W: Then what did you like about her back then?]
[Little One: …That was a long time ago, I’ve forgotten.]
[Little One: Cough! But she’s too good at pretending. The public’s evaluation of her has always been good. I must have been blinded by her facade back then, which is why I was blind enough to like her.]
[Senior W: Then she must be at least good-looking?] [Senior W: Zhijiu, do you think she’s good-looking, or are you better looking?]
Senior’s questions were all very strange.
But cleverly, she didn’t directly probe into who the “annoying person” was. This gave Sang Zhijiu, who knew that “scandals should not be aired in public,” a great sense of security.
Since the other party didn’t know who she hated… then satisfying Senior W’s curiosity a little bit should be fine, right?
[Little One: I think she’s a bit more good-looking. Cough, I don’t mean that I like her as a person, I mean… I prefer her style of looks.]
A simple sentence was made incoherent by her delivery. After sending the text, Sang Zhijiu felt a bit bashful herself.
But in truth, she really did prefer Fan Wu’s looks.
Back when she was a Beta, she had complained that her own looks weren’t heroic enough. Someone like Fan Wu was just right—mature, intellectual, and not lacking in allure. It was the most standard “wicked” face that enemies would envy and fangirls would defend.
Now, due to secondary differentiation, she had turned from a Beta into an Omega, and her looks had changed to some extent. Although she didn’t want to admit it, lately when she looked in the mirror at her increasingly soft facial contours, she would silently wail in her heart—
Waaah, so feminine!
How could someone even more adorable than a standard Omega attract the attention of other Omegas?
[Senior W: I see.] [Senior W: But I think Zhijiu is the most good-looking.]
Sang Zhijiu was stunned for a moment, then curled her lips into a smile.
[Little One: Thanks.]
[Little One: Senior, I’ll stop chatting for now. It seems those fans have left. I have things to do, so I’ll get to work.]
Having said that, she turned off her phone, washed her hands again, and then walked to the hand dryer.
Fan Wu was thinking of a reply when she received a message from Jiang Mengzhi on her chat app.
[Jiang Mengzhi: Fan Wu, where are you?] [Jiang Mengzhi: Xiaoyu got the signed photo. We’re taking the elevator down now. You should come over quickly; see you at the car.]
Fan Wu supported her forehead in distress.
Why did all these things have to happen at once?
Jiang Mengzhi and Fan Yu were about to take the elevator, and the little one was about to leave the restroom. Wouldn’t these two groups bump into each other right at the elevator entrance?
Seeing that Sang Zhijiu had already dried her hands and was about to step out the door, Fan Wu immediately stepped forward to block her.
“I heard you’ve been looking for a script with an Omega lead lately?”
Sang Zhijiu was very wary. “What does it have to do with you?”
Fan Wu: “How is the progress? The company has two or three good projects. Director Lyu Fengming’s Contagion is quite good. Although it’s only the second film he’s directed, based on the level he showed in his first, Contagion won’t be bad either. Do you look down on even that one?”
Sang Zhijiu felt a bit dejected. “…It’s not that I look down on it. My schedule won’t allow it… I turned down both Contagion and Iris in the Wind.”
Fan Wu was thoughtful. “Is that so?” She asked, “Do you feel both of those are too urgent?”
Sang Zhijiu: “No, they’re both too late.” She took a deep breath. “I can’t wait that long.”
Fan Wu was a bit confused. Too late? What is the little one in such a hurry for?
Sang Zhijiu had only spoken a few more words to her because she was frustrated. Now that she’d vented her anger, she immediately said impatiently, “Move aside, I have things to do! Don’t waste my time.”
Wasn’t Fan Wu just trying to stall for time?
Calculating it, if Jiang Mengzhi had messaged her from Fan Zhengzhi’s office, it would take about two or three minutes for her and Fan Yu to reach the elevator.
“I saw Lin Jiahe in Director Lin’s office, so you’re here to see him today?” Fan Wu tried her best to think of something to say to delay her. “If those two are too late, when do you want a movie to start filming?”
Sang Zhijiu was a bit puzzled—Fan Wu didn’t use to chat about these things with her. Why was her behavior so strange today?
She frowned. “What exactly do you want to do? Why should I tell you something like this?”
Fan Wu spread her hands. “I’ve said it before, there might be some misunderstandings between us. Since you have a need, I’m very willing to do something, hoping to eliminate your misunderstanding of me.”
Sang Zhijiu froze for a moment, and then her face turned a strange shade of red.
Was this beast Fan Wu trying to do favors for her because she also read that book and realized that bullying wasn’t a way to pursue someone she liked, so she was changing her method?
To be fair, if Sang Zhijiu were facing any other matter, she would likely raise her chin and tell Fan Wu to get as far away as possible. But the next movie was related to whether she could gain her mothers’ approval and decide her own life for the next half of her years… Sang Zhijiu took this matter very seriously.
She bit her lip. “Can you really help me? I… I like works that can win awards, preferably starting filming next month. In short… it has to make it in time for next summer’s film festival.”
Fan Wu raised an eyebrow. “For projects like that, the Omega leads are almost always already decided.”
“I know.” Sang Zhijiu gritted her teeth. “If it were a simple matter, I would have handled it myself. Why would I need to ask for help?”
Fan Wu was a bit troubled. To be honest, she also found the little one’s request a bit tricky for a moment. No wonder Lin Jiahe was staying in Director Lin’s office; this matter was indeed very difficult to handle.
And keep in mind, Sang Zhijiu had specified a work that could compete for and win awards. For such projects, all the leads are generally already famous, with reputations not much lower than Sang Zhijiu’s. In other words, even if Nanlu was wealthy and powerful, they couldn’t just use money to buy someone out.
The situation had hit a deadlock.
Seeing her like this, Sang Zhijiu more or less guessed what she was thinking. She sighed and blurted out “forget it,” bypassing Fan Wu to go outside, intending to try and persuade Director Lin again.
Fan Wu had just been momentarily distracted. Seeing her walk out, it was too late to stop her, so she could only chase after her.
Just as they approached the elevator, they heard the notification chime of the elevator stopping on the current floor.
Fan Wu thought to herself, It’s over.
“…Fan Wu, Sang Zhijiu.”
The people waiting in front of the elevator were a bit surprised and took the initiative to greet them.
Fan Wu looked up and suddenly breathed a sigh of relief—the person in front of the elevator wasn’t Fan Yu as she had imagined, but Director Lin and Lin Jiahe.
Lin Jiahe was very confused. “Zhijiu… didn’t you say you were going back? Why are you together with Sister Fan Wu?”
Sang Zhijiu really wanted to correct her; the two of them weren’t “together,” they had just had the bad luck to run into each other.
But the next second, Director Lin grinned and walked over warmly. “Ah, I was just looking for you. Perfect, since you’re both here today, why don’t we go to my office and chat?”
Sang Zhijiu was a bit puzzled. “About what?”
What matter would require her and this beast Fan Wu to be pulled together?
Director Lin smiled. “Didn’t you propose a series of script requirements?” He sighed. “I thought about it over and over, and only the project Fan Wu has on hand meets your requirements. Their Omega lead hasn’t been decided yet. Why don’t you two have a chat?”
