Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 13
Because of script issues, Lin Jiahe brought Sang Zhijiu to the Nanlu headquarters early this morning. They were prepared to fight the company executives again for an Omega role that could make it in time for next year’s film festival.
The executives didn’t dare offend Sang Zhijiu, but the matter was indeed difficult to handle. After both sides went back and forth for a long while, the executives stepped out temporarily.
Through the window, Lin Jiahe saw her superior making a call in the corridor and breathed a secret sigh of relief.
She turned back to Sang Zhijiu and said, “Director Lin is on the phone. He’s likely helping us look for a new script. With him taking charge, there’s at least a seventy percent chance of success!”
She had thought this sentence would temporarily pacify Sang Zhijiu, but to Lin Jiahe’s surprise, once Sang Zhijiu looked up from her phone, her expression became even more solemn than before.
“I got word that a well-connected fanatic fan is planning to come to the company to corner me,” Sang Zhijiu said.
Lin Jiahe squinted, her expression utterly confused. “You can even get news like that in advance?”
Sang Zhijiu shook her phone triumphantly. “Hmph, what did you think? My true fans are spread across all walks of life. If there’s even a slight rustle in the grass, someone reports back to me.”
Lin Jiahe confirmed, “You mean… the person who gave you this news is also one of your little fans?”
Sang Zhijiu nodded bluntly. “Yeah.”
Lin Jiahe sized her up for a few moments and asked a crucial question: “Zhijiu, have you ever considered… that the person giving you the tip-off and the person coming to corner you might very well be the same person?”
She shrugged as she spoke. “After all, you know how crazy sasaeng fans are these days. If they weren’t part of that group, how would they know their movement routes?”
Sang Zhijiu froze for a few seconds before baring her teeth in protest. “Absolutely not!”
Lin Jiahe didn’t give up. “How do you know?”
Sang Zhijiu thought carefully for a few seconds and replied, “This fan has helped me more than once. If she really wanted to see me, she would just tell me. I wouldn’t mind treating her to a meal. There’s no reason for her to come to the company to corner me.”
Lin Jiahe rubbed her chin. “Oh, I see. But even if you’re willing to offer yourself up, that little fan might not know she’s already lured you into her hands!”
“Lin! Jia! He!” Sang Zhijiu original gritted her teeth. “Do you just enjoy targeting me lately?”
Lin Jiahe quickly explained, “That’s not it.” She wrinkled her nose. “It’s just that you’ve been chatting quite warmly with that little fan lately and believe everything she says. I’m just afraid you’ll be cheated.”
“What is there to cheat me out of?” Sang Zhijiu held her phone out to her. “Look, our conversation is perfectly normal.”
Lin Jiahe leaned in and caught a glimpse of the contact name, which was saved as “Senior W.”
Suddenly, she frowned and murmured, “Ah, this number…”
Sang Zhijiu’s eyes widened in surprise. “What? Do you recognize the number? Senior W is also in our circle, so maybe you really do know her!”
Lin Jiahe paused for a moment.
The next second, she waved her hand. “No, I meant that this number is quite fancy. It ends in four consecutive nines. 9999, isn’t that just ‘jiu jiu jiu jiu’? This person might really be your true fan. As for the number itself…” She laughed. “Sigh, who actually memorizes phone numbers these days?”
Sang Zhijiu’s original expectation instantly fell flat.
Although she had said she wouldn’t actively investigate Senior W’s identity, she really did want to thank her in person if she had the chance.
Lin Jiahe said, “However, this number is quite distinctive. I’ll keep an eye out for you if I get the chance.”
Having said that, she changed the subject. “Alright, assuming a sasaeng really is coming to corner you, did that fan tell you what to do?”
Sang Zhijiu gave an “mm” and said seriously, “Senior said that for my personal safety, it’s best if I avoid it. Because that sasaeng has some background, the company security won’t stop her.”
Lin Jiahe analyzed seriously, “If that’s what she says, then this sasaeng definitely has someone within our company, and that person’s status can’t be low. We currently need a favor from the company, so why don’t you just do them a favor and treat it like a temporary mini fan meeting? I’ll have Akang find two more security guards to come up and watch. That sasaeng definitely won’t be able to offend you. What do you think?”
“No!” Sang Zhijiu’s face turned cold, and she shook her head in refusal.
She said, “I just went through secondary differentiation. It’s obvious what that kind of sasaeng is coming for. I don’t want to see someone like that for now.”
Lin Jiahe was stunned for a moment, then nodded in understanding.
Jokes were jokes, but since Sang Zhijiu had clearly stated her feelings, she wouldn’t make light of it. So she nodded. “Then I’ll have Akang take you back to the hotel first. I’ll handle things here.”
Sang Zhijiu nodded.
Soon, she put on her sunglasses and mask and left the office with the assistant, Akang.
Akang planned to go pull the car to the entrance first and told her to wait inside the company.
Sang Zhijiu was swiping through her phone browsing the latest entertainment news when she happened to catch a glimpse of Director Lin, whom she had just seen, making a call in the nearby stairwell.
She walked over. In the enclosed environment, the other party’s voice sounded incredibly clear.
“…Yes, right, I just wanted to ask about that movie you have. Ah… the Omega lead has already been decided? Tsk, that was fast. I remember hearing you complain about the casting last week. Fine, it’s okay, I was just asking. Mm-hmm… it’s nothing major.”
As Sang Zhijiu listened, her brow gradually furrowed.
It felt like Director Lin didn’t place much importance on her affairs. In that case, when he returned to the office and found only Lin Jiahe there, would he just gloss over the matter?
Thinking of this, Sang Zhijiu waited in place for a moment. Seeing Director Lin hang up and prepare to walk back, she steeled herself and quietly followed him.
On the way, she found time to take out her phone and send a message to Akang, telling him to wait in the car for a while.
Her original intention was to show her determination to Director Lin once more before she left. Unexpectedly, Director Lin went straight up the stairs. Sang Zhijiu didn’t find an opportunity to call out to him. Fearing she would expose the fact that she had been eavesdropping on his call, she could only follow him up the stairs in silence.
They climbed all the way to the seventh floor. Director Lin finally exited the stairwell, and Sang Zhijiu breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
She was a good two floors behind him. By the time she reached the seventh floor, Director Lin had already disappeared around a corner in the distant corridor. As she passed the nearby elevator, she happened to see it rising from the fifth floor.
Sang Zhijiu frowned.
She suddenly had a bad premonition. Disregarding her pursuit of Director Lin, she hurriedly retreated back into the stairwell.
Sure enough, just as she hid back inside, she heard the sound of the elevator stopping on her floor.
As the elevator doors opened, a somewhat excited girl’s voice shouted, “Ooh, is Jiujiu on this floor?”
Another voice replied somewhat coldly, “Maybe.”
Sang Zhijiu felt that this second voice was somewhat familiar, but because she was a short distance from the elevator and separated by the heavy door of the stairwell, she couldn’t determine who it was for a moment. But one thing was certain—
“Is someone from inside the company really bringing a sasaeng to find me? Senior W was so accurate…”
She breathed a secret sigh of relief, took out her phone, and reported back to the true fan she trusted.
[Senior, thank you.] [I avoided those fanatic fans, whew.]
A notification sound rang out. Fan Yu looked at her sister. “Big Sister, did your phone ring? Today isn’t the weekend. Do you have other things to be busy with?”
She gave a flattering smile as she spoke. “How about you go do your own thing first? I’ll go find Brother Zhengzhi myself, and we can just eat together tonight.”
Fan Wu picked up her phone, took a look, and curled her lips.
She looked at Fan Yu and asked, “What? Afraid I’ll interfere with you seeing your idol?”
“No…” Fan Yu stuck out her tongue. “I was thinking, you’re Jiujiu’s senior in the circle as well as her superior. If Jiujiu sees you, won’t she be too nervous? I usually see you being quite serious toward Jiujiu, so…”
Fan Wu tilted her head.
Holding the phone, she felt a great deal of confidence in her heart. After all, she was Fan Wu, but also Sang Zhijiu’s “Senior W.” In some ways, the current Sang Zhijiu was on her side.
“Are you trying to say Sang Zhijiu doesn’t want to see me?”
Fan Yu was stunned and summoned the courage to ask, “I don’t believe those rumors online about you two not getting along. So Big Sister, how is your relationship with Jiujiu?”
Fan Wu didn’t even blink. “Our relationship has always been very good. She respects me very much. When she was hospitalized for two days because of her secondary differentiation, I made a special trip to visit her.”
“Really?” Fan Yu excitedly balled her little fists.
In a corner where she couldn’t be seen, Jiang Mengzhi looked down and secretly rolled her eyes.
She didn’t know how Fan Wu could say the words “relationship is very good.” Perhaps with the Movie Queen’s excellent self-perception, she unilaterally felt that Sang Zhijiu still had some favorable impression of her?
But how could something like this be hidden?
Jiang Mengzhi suddenly looked forward to meeting Sang Zhijiu. When that time really came, if Sang Zhijiu’s attitude toward Fan Wu was still like it had been in the hospital room, she wanted to see how Fan Wu planned to smooth things over in front of Fan Yu.
Unfortunately, when they reached the office door and looked through the window, they saw only Lin Jiahe and Director Lin inside.
Fan Yu was clearly disappointed and secretly tugged on Jiang Mengzhi’s sleeve.
Jiang Mengzhi found a staff member outside to ask. The staff member said, “Sang Zhijiu? Sister Mengzhi, you’ve come at a bad time. She just left about ten minutes ago.”
Jiang Mengzhi was somewhat surprised. “I see. I understand, thank you.”
Having just missed her, Jiang Mengzhi was also helpless. She turned back to comfort Fan Yu: “There’s nothing we can do. We’ll have to wait until next time.”
Fan Yu nodded sadly.
Fan Wu curled her lips at the side. “You shouldn’t have trusted Fan Zhengzhi. See? He called us over but couldn’t keep an eye on your Sang Zhijiu. A trip for nothing, right?”
Jiang Mengzhi looked at her expression and felt something was strange in her heart, making her narrow her eyes in thought.
Fan Yu gave a “hmph” at the side. “Brother Zhengzhi wouldn’t lie to me. Jiujiu must have had something come up, so we just missed each other!”
She adjusted the backpack on her shoulder. “I’m going to find Brother Zhengzhi. He said he still has a signed photo of Jiujiu to give me.”
After speaking, she pulled on Jiang Mengzhi’s sleeve. “Sister Mengzhi, take me to find Brother Zhengzhi.”
Jiang Mengzhi glanced at Fan Wu.
Fan Wu didn’t want to see Fan Zhengzhi. She was still holding her phone and nodded upon seeing the situation. “You take her there. I’m going to the restroom. We’ll meet in the parking lot downstairs later.”
Jiang Mengzhi said “okay” and turned to lead Fan Yu down the corridor to the right.
Fan Wu turned and walked toward the public restroom on the other side.
Actually, there was a closer restroom nearby, but she wanted to find a quiet place to reply to the little one’s message, so she deliberately took a long way and chose another. Coincidentally, that restroom was closer to the elevator, making it convenient to go straight downstairs once she was done.
Walking to a place where no one was around, she directly took out her phone.
[Senior W: You’re welcome. It’s good that you weren’t harassed. You just went through secondary differentiation, so you should be resting quietly anyway. Little fans are too noisy; it’s best not to meet them.]
After thinking about it, Fan Wu left herself a way out.
[Senior W: Mm… unless there’s a reliable person with them, then perhaps you can meet.]
She wasn’t against Fan Yu meeting Sang Zhijiu; she was only against Fan Yu meeting Sang Zhijiu through Fan Zhengzhi’s matchmaking.
Previously, because she opposed Fan Yu’s obsession with stars, the two sisters had a bit of an unpleasant fallout. Fan Zhengzhi, on the other hand, had used his position to gain a lot of favor from Fan Yu.
Fan Wu didn’t want her own younger sister to be lured away by this cousin, Fan Zhengzhi!
But just as her message was sent, a notification “ding” rang out right behind her.
Sang Zhijiu had originally planned to wait a bit longer. Once those fans didn’t see her, they would likely leave. Then she could go back and find Director Lin again.
But she didn’t expect that in the time it took her to use the restroom, she would come out to find Fan Wu standing at the sink with her phone.
Caught off guard, the two of them bumped right into each other.
Fan Wu immediately darkened her phone screen and greeted with a smile, “What a coincidence.”
Sang Zhijiu looked away. “Hmph, bad luck!”
Fan Wu narrowed her eyes. Should the little one’s temper be disciplined a bit?
