Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 12
Fan Yu dragged her suitcase out of the airport when someone suddenly tapped her on the shoulder.
She looked back and cried out in pleasant surprise, “Sister Mengzhi! Why are you here?”
Jiang Mengzhi leaned over to hug her and said, “What else would I be doing here? I’m here to pick you up, of course.”
Fan Yu wrinkled her little nose. “Hmph, I don’t believe you. You probably have some work and just happened to drop by to meet me, right?”
Jiang Mengzhi sighed. “You little girl, why won’t you believe me? Let’s go, the car is waiting outside. Today, I really came specifically for you, so wait a second while I take this call.”
Fan Yu was clearly used to this. She shrugged teasingly, signaling for her to go ahead.
Jiang Mengzhi stepped a few paces away and picked up the phone. “Mm, it’s me. These people were hired by the company to give Sang Zhijiu a physical checkup. After you pick them up and bring them to the hotel, contact Lin Jiahe and let her handle the hand-off. Mm, right, no problem. I’m hanging up now.”
Just as she put down the phone and was about to turn back to find Fan Yu, she saw Fan Yu staring with wide eyes, standing right next to her.
The little fangirl asked curiously, “What Sang Zhijiu? What happened to Jiujiu? Why does she need another checkup?”
Jiang Mengzhi explained helplessly, “It’s nothing. It’s just about her previous secondary differentiation. The two elders in her family are worried, so your sister arranged a private consultation. I reckon it’s nothing serious; it’s mainly to put the parents’ minds at ease.”
Fan Yu caught the main point. “That medical team, are they also arriving by plane today?”
Jiang Mengzhi nodded. “In order to pick you up, I sent my assistant to receive them. So, do you see who I came here for today?”
Fan Yu gripped her suitcase and began looking around left and right.
Jiang Mengzhi was puzzled. “What are you looking at? Let’s go, get in the car first. The driver is waiting.”
Fan Yu stood rooted to the spot, refusing to budge.
She tried to negotiate with Jiang Mengzhi. “Sister Mengzhi, do you mind having one more assistant? What do you think of me?”
She excitedly recommended herself, “How about I ride in the car with those doctors? I’m also very worried about Jiujiu’s health!”
Jiang Mengzhi had a headache.
She knew Fan Yu liked Sang Zhijiu, but she hadn’t expected this little fangirl to be obsessed to this extent. Thinking about it this way, Fan Wu’s previous strict guarding against Sang Zhijiu didn’t seem so hard to understand anymore.
She advised, “You’ve graduated and come back now. You’re definitely going to enter Nanlu, so why fear that you won’t have a chance to see Sang Zhijiu? Stop fooling around. Get in the car with me now and let’s go back and get settled.”
Hearing this, Fan Yu touched her face.
Because of the flight, she hadn’t put on her makeup properly today. In this state, it really wasn’t ideal to meet her idol. So, Fan Yu nodded in compromise and followed Jiang Mengzhi to a sedan parked in a corner outside the airport.
After putting away her luggage, she sat in the back seat. As soon as she leaned down, she discovered someone was already sitting there. Looking closely, Fan Yu cried out in surprise, “Big Sister?”
Fan Wu pulled down the mask on her face, her expression似笑非笑, half-smiling. “Little brat, you remembered to come back?”
Fan Yu grinned happily and leaned over to hug Fan Wu and act spoiled. “Oh, I didn’t know the final graduation trip would take so much time! If I had known, I wouldn’t have joined the fun and would have come back sooner! That way, I could have seen my Jiujiu earlier!”
Fan Wu’s smile froze on her lips.
She gave a light push, sending the girl back to her seat. “So, the reason you wanted to come back early was all for Sang Zhijiu?”
Only then did Fan Yu realize she had said the wrong thing. She flatteringly tried to make amends, “Of course not! I also wanted to see Big Sister sooner!”
Fan Wu snorted coldly. “Want to see me? You know Sang Zhijiu’s schedule like the back of your hand, but you probably don’t know a single bit of gossip about your own sister. Aside from telling lies to make people happy, you don’t have a shred of sincerity.”
Fan Yu quickly protested, “Who said that! I’ve been following your news all along!”
To prove her words weren’t false, she provided evidence. “I’ve read all the news. That Xu Fengbing stepped on you to get on the trending searches, acting like your endorsement was going to her! I used several accounts under the trending topics to help hold the ground for you and I didn’t stop until just before I got on the plane!”
Fan Wu’s brows had just smoothed out when she suddenly thought of a crucial point.
Trending alongside the news of Xu Fengbing replacing her as the finale guest for the Ursula gala was the search about her helping Sang Zhijiu out of a predicament and walking the red carpet together.
She didn’t doubt that Fan Yu was busy using several accounts, but this little girl, which trending topic was she actually busy under?
Thinking of this, Fan Wu reached out her hand. “Is that so? Then take out your phone and let me see.”
“Ah?” Fan Yu turned to stone on the spot.
Two seconds later, she attempted to muddle through. “Uh, I, before I got on the plane, it, it ran out of battery.”
“Sister Mengzhi,” Fan Wu called out to the manager sitting in the front passenger seat. “Could you please pass me the charger and cable from over there?”
Jiang Mengzhi acted upon hearing this. After finding the items, she turned around and handed them to Fan Yu. Before turning back, she left little Fan Yu a sympathetic but helpless look.
Fan Yu’s hands were shaking as she took the charger.
She made a final struggle. “Big Sister, what’s there to see in this kind of thing? You wouldn’t want to see me bashing people, right?”
Fan Wu leisurely cleaned her fingernails. “Tell the truth.”
“Okay, I was all speaking up for Jiujiu because Jiujiu doesn’t have as many fans as you and she had to deal with the marketing accounts making things difficult for her during her secondary differentiation, so she must be very sad and I had to support her, so I didn’t go to Xu Fengbing’s trending topic to help you comment.” Fan Yu blurted out the truth in one breath without punctuation, her voice getting smaller and smaller until it was barely audible.
Fortunately, having long been used to her younger sister’s fangirl behavior and having anticipated this result, Fan Wu’s blood pressure didn’t go through the roof. Even so, she still took a moment to calm her heart.
In the passenger seat, Jiang Mengzhi helped smooth things over. “Haha, actually, Fan Wu doesn’t need comments or anything. Xu Fengbing won’t be jumping around for long, and soon, everyone will know the truth of that night.”
Fan Yu cooperated, “Wow, is that so!”
She looked at Fan Wu, her eyes full of admiration. “I knew Big Sister was super amazing and definitely wouldn’t let herself be bullied!”
Fan Wu’s mood finally improved a bit.
Having finally picked up Fan Yu, she didn’t really want to chat about these trivial matters. After thinking about it, she changed the subject. “After we get home, you go get settled first. Tonight, I’ll take you out to eat. Mom and Dad mentioned you a few days ago, so remember to give them a video call tonight.”
Fan Yu was exceptionally cooperative. “Mm-hmm! Okay.”
She asked, “By the way? Where’s Brother Zhengzhi? Is he coming tonight?”
Fan Wu thought for a moment. “He probably doesn’t have time.”
Fan Yu’s eyes widened. “Ah, is the company very busy right now?”
“It’s alright,” Fan Wu leaned against the back of the seat, crossing her arms. “But he recently took on a part-time job, so he gets off work quite late at night.”
“Ah?” Fan Yu was even more confused. “But Brother Zhengzhi is already a director, so why does he still need to do a part-time job?”
She looked at her phone. “No, I have to ask.”
No sooner said than done; as soon as Fan Yu finished speaking, she dialed the number.
Fan Wu couldn’t stop her in time and could only watch as the call went through and the two of them chatted happily.
Fortunately, Fan Zhengzhi knew what should and shouldn’t be said. Facing Fan Yu’s questions about the part-time job, he vaguely brushed it off with no intention of exposing Fan Wu.
Fan Wu had just praised his sensibility in her heart when she suddenly heard him lower his voice on the phone and say to Fan Yu, “Oh, right, Xiaoyu! Sang Zhijiu is in the office right next to mine, so do you want to come over and see your idol with your own eyes?”
Fan Yu was so excited she almost jumped up. “Really? Is she at the Nanlu headquarters right now?”
Without waiting for Fan Zhengzhi to confirm, she pleaded with Jiang Mengzhi in the front, “Sister Mengzhi, let’s go to Nanlu first! I have something to find Brother Zhengzhi for!”
Jiang Mengzhi glanced at Fan Wu.
Fan Wu curled her lips into a smile and nodded in response.
Jiang Mengzhi was stunned for a moment.
Why was Fan Wu suddenly so generous, agreeing even to such an unreasonable request from Fan Yu?
She couldn’t figure it out for now, but she still turned to the driver and said, “Xiao Wan, let’s go back to the company first.”
The driver, Xiao Wan, nodded. Taking advantage of the intersection ahead, he made a U-turn and headed toward the Nanlu head office.
Fan Wu sat steadily in her seat and casually took out her phone.
In a position where others in the car couldn’t see, she edited a text message with her fingers.
[Senior W: Jiujiu, are you at Nanlu?]
Sang Zhijiu was very surprised. [Yes, Senior, how did you know?]
