Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 11
While the media dared to hound Sang Zhijiu, they all shared a tacit understanding within the industry: no one dared to provoke Fan Wu. With the Best Actress herself stepping in, the reporters retreated behind the cordons, obediently acting as nothing more than photography tools.
The security guards maintaining the scene let out a massive sigh of relief, and Fan Wu officially led Sang Zhijiu onto the red carpet.
“Don’t think I’ll be grateful to you for this!” Sang Zhijiu hissed at Fan Wu at an angle where the cameras could not capture her face.
Fan Wu tilted her head toward her with a smile. “Well, you weren’t scared off by those people. You’ve still got plenty of spirit.”
Sang Zhijiu was annoyed. “I wouldn’t be scared by such a small scene! I could have handled it myself. It’s all your fault for meddling!”
“Is that so?” Fan Wu really wanted to pinch those puffed-up cheeks, but with crowds of media to her left, she could not find an opportunity to strike.
Supprossing the itch in her hands, she added, “If you keep glaring at me like that, tomorrow’s secondary headline will be news of our suspected discord.”
Living under someone else’s roof, Sang Zhijiu resentfully withdrew her gaze.
The two walked further until they reached the signing area. A staff member handed over felt-tip pens and guided them to the signing board.
Taking advantage of the moment their backs were turned to the media, Sang Zhijiu could not help but ask, “Why the secondary headline? What’s the main headline then?”
Fan Wu finished a stroke and admired her own elegant signature with satisfaction. She replied as if it were nothing, “A hero saves the beauty; the two faces of Nanlu are suspected to be in love.”
After speaking, she curled her lips and sought the opinion of the other party involved: “What do you think?”
Sang Zhijiu’s eyes drooped. She wished she could travel back one minute and strangle her over-curious self. She should never have provoked this monster!
Despite Sang Zhijiu’s reluctance to admit it, Fan Wu’s initiative to help indeed saved her a lot of trouble. Later in the evening, when she officially sat for interviews, the media’s questions were much milder. At the very least, there were no more ridiculous comments questioning her as an Omega pretending to be a Beta.
After briefly answering the questions, she used the media cameras to assure her concerned fans that she was safe, marking the end of tonight’s itinerary. Lin Jiahe arrived with the assistant to pick her up and return to the hotel.
On the way out of the venue, they passed another interview area where a surging crowd of reporters blocked their path. Sang Zhijiu glanced inside and saw that the person being interviewed was the top star of Nanlu Entertainment’s rival company, Xu Fengbing.
The reporters were asking loudly, “As the finale guest of tonight’s gala, can you tell us how you feel?”
Xu Fengbing’s reply was very interesting: “Ah, I was actually surprised when I received the invitation. After all, although the Ursula brand has recently been negotiating new cooperation with my team, the global brand ambassador is still Fan Wu. Anyway, I am very grateful to the brand for their trust and esteem.”
Lin Jiahe shielded Sang Zhijiu as they took another path, unable to stop herself from scoffing, “She can really talk big. It’s only because Sister Fan Wu walked the red carpet with you and left the finale slot empty that she got to pick up the leftovers. To think she had the nerve to act in front of the media like Ursula is about to change ambassadors.”
Sang Zhijiu froze. “Was Fan Wu supposed to be the finale guest?”
Lin Jiahe nodded. “Of course. In any event Sister Fan Wu attends, when is she not the biggest focus? Speaking of which, Zhijiu, did you thank her properly earlier?”
Sang Zhijiu wrinkled her nose and denied it righteously. “No! Don’t be fooled by her appearance. Who knows what she’s plotting by taking the initiative to help me?!”
Lin Jiahe frowned. “Isn’t that a bit much? What could Sister Fan Wu possibly want from us?”
Sang Zhijiu had grievances she couldn’t voice, so she could only brace herself and say, “That woman has many tricks up her sleeve. Don’t look at her differently just because of a small favor! If she sells me out, you’ll never find another star employer as good as me.”
Lin Jiahe thought about it and asked very seriously, “If she sells you, can I go help her count the money?”
“No! Way!” Sang Zhijiu glared at her. “Lin Jiahe! Have you had that in mind for a long time? You aren’t an undercover agent sent by Fan Wu, are you?”
“You’re overthinking it,” Lin Jiahe explained quickly. “Think about it. With your ability, if Sister Fan Wu wanted to sell you, would she even need to bother planting an undercover agent? This proves that I am absolutely loyal to you.”
Sang Zhijiu was stunned for two seconds. Once she understood the meaning behind the words, she stopped resentfully and stepped on Lin Jiahe’s foot before stalking away with her chin held high.
Lin Jiahe realized she was angry and followed her all the way to the car, apologizing carefully. Sang Zhijiu refused to speak to her and turned to pick up her phone. Lin Jiahe thought she was editing something, only to have her own phone chime with messages from Sang Zhijiu.
[Zhijiu: I’m not talking to you for three days.] [Zhijiu: Stay away from me.]
Lin Jiahe looked at her. “Playing this trick again? Don’t you get tired of it?”
Sang Zhijiu turned her head away, looking determined to carry out her bold declaration.
Lin Jiahe intentionally let out a long sigh. “Sigh, I finally managed to get two exchange scripts from the company. Since you don’t want to talk to me, we’ll wait three days before considering which one to take.”
Before the sentence was even finished, Sang Zhijiu had already leaned in and asked, “What scripts? Let me see.”
Lin Jiahe crossed her arms. “Didn’t you say three days… Hey, don’t grab my phone.” She carefully pulled her phone back. “Fine, fine, I’ll send them to you.”
She operated the phone and forwarded two scripts for top-tier Omega roles provided by Nanlu’s executives. She thought that the scripts, totaling dozens of pages, would keep Sang Zhijiu quiet for at least two days. Unexpectedly, Sang Zhijiu scanned through them and immediately knit her brows.
“Is the earliest one not starting for another half a year?” she asked.
Lin Jiahe nodded. “Scripts like these, aimed at winning awards, need to be prepared long in advance. You should take this time to recover your health.”
Sang Zhijiu interrupted her anxiously. “No, this is too long!”
She desperately needed a role that could win her an award because the deadline for the agreement with her mothers was approaching. If these scripts wouldn’t start filming for six months, they would definitely miss the deadline. At that time, regardless of whether she won an award, she would have to obediently go back home.
Realizing the seriousness of the matter, she said to Lin Jiahe, “I forgot to tell you earlier. The timing of the script must match Director Guan’s; it cannot be much later. It must at least be able to enter next year’s Changxia Film Festival.”
Lin Jiahe said, “That’s way too rushed. According to your requirements, if we want to make it for the festival, it means we have to start filming next month or the month after at the latest. But in crews like that, the main cast is already set. How could there still be a spot?”
Sang Zhijiu also knew this was difficult. She sniffled and took Lin Jiahe’s hand. “Jiahe, I’m counting on you. I must make it into the next film festival. Otherwise… otherwise you might really have to work like a dog for that bastard Fan Wu.”
Lin Jiahe felt a bit dizzy.
