- Chapter 1 - A Flash Marriage with the Film Queen
The news of Film Queen Zhao Xunyin’s marriage exploded across Weibo, staying at the top of the trending list for a full two days. Nearly ten related hashtags dominated the charts—starting with “Zhao Xunyin Got Married”, then moving to “Zhao Xunyin’s Views on Marriage”, “Who Did Zhao Xunyin Marry?”, “Zhao Xunyin’s Exes”, and finally digging up even her earliest variety show interviews.
This alone proved just how deep Zhao Xunyin’s popularity ran with the public.
“No wonder she’s the film queen. Even her marriage is shaking the whole internet,” her roommate muttered from bed, eyes glued to her phone.
Hearing this, Shi Nanbei pulled out her own phone, opened Weibo, and was immediately greeted with a resurfaced interview that had already been shared tens of thousands of times.
The video was from many years ago, back when Zhao Xunyin was still the most notoriously polarizing star online—long before she became the “double crown film queen,” let alone the goddess-like figure fans later deified. Naturally, the host back then hadn’t been particularly polite.
When asked about her ideal partner, Zhao Xunyin had replied bluntly: “I don’t have a standard. As long as they’re good-looking, that’s enough.”
Sharp, direct—true to her style.
Then she added, “I probably won’t ever get married, so I don’t really have many requirements for the other person.”
She had only been in her early twenties then—young, dazzling, reckless. The host, startled to hear a rising star openly claim she never wanted to marry, pressed her for a reason.
Zhao Xunyin smiled faintly, half-joking as she said: “Because I want to give happiness to every girl in the world.”
Now that this clip had resurfaced, her Weibo was flooded with broken-hearted fans devastated by the news of her sudden marriage.
Female netizens wailed in the comments:
• “Didn’t you say you’d give happiness to all the girls? Why did you go and get married?! You liar, you broke my heart! [crying emoji]”
• “Homewrecker of hearts Zhao Xunyin, you betrayed me! [crying emoji] Don’t you want me anymore?”
• “Tell us the truth! Were you forced into this? Didn’t you swear never to marry?!”
Not to be outdone, male netizens chimed in:
• “Goddess, just tell me—was it some woman who hurt you? [covering face emoji] Is that why you’ve given up on love and got married? Don’t worry if girls don’t love you anymore—you still have us guys! We need your happiness too!”
• “Exactly! Us guys deserve happiness too!”
Shi Nanbei had just finished watching the clip when her roommate let out a world-weary sigh across the room:
“I can’t believe my goddess actually got married.”
Shi Nanbei: “…”
She knew how obsessed her roommate was with Zhao Xunyin. After a pause, she tried to comfort her, albeit awkwardly:
“Well, she is thirty-four now. It’s about time she settled down.”
Her roommate clapped her hands over her ears and wailed dramatically:
“Shut up! I don’t want to hear it! In my heart she’ll always be twenty-eight!”
Shi Nanbei: “…”
The wailing continued, growing into near hysteria.
“If I ever find out who stole my goddess away, I’ll get revenge for this crime of stealing my wife!”
Shi Nanbei, curled up under her blanket, shivered. She couldn’t help recalling those terrifying news stories about deranged fans taking revenge. Her eyes watered with despair.
Feeling wronged, she opened WeChat and messaged the contact saved in her phone as “Old Woman”:
Shi Nanbei: My roommate says she’s coming for me.
The reply came almost instantly:
Old Woman: ?
Shi Nanbei: She says she wants revenge for stealing her wife.
The “Old Woman” replied with nothing but an emoji: 【smile】
Shi Nanbei stared at the mocking little icon in silence.
“…” Forget it. No point continuing this conversation.
She shut off her phone and buried herself back under the covers.
In truth, she couldn’t figure out why Zhao Xunyin had gotten married at all. What baffled her even more was—why had Zhao Xunyin married her?
All she knew was that her grandmother had forced her into a blind date. Too scared to disobey, she had gone—only to find her date was not only a woman, but a very beautiful woman.
Shi Nanbei sighed as she recalled that day. If she had known her blind date was going to be Zhao Xunyin, she would’ve at least put on some makeup.
“Miss Shi Nanbei?”
Sitting across from her, Zhao Xunyin exuded a powerful aura—every gesture carried the presence of a queen. Shi Nanbei shrank in the booth, staring wide-eyed at the actress who had suddenly appeared before her. Her voice trembled:
“Y-yes, that’s me.”
Zhao Xunyin curved her lips into a smile, her gaze falling on Shi Nanbei like a hunter eyeing a startled rabbit.
“You know who I am, don’t you?”
Shi Nanbei stared at her striking, almost intimidatingly beautiful face. Who in their generation wouldn’t know Zhao Xunyin?
“I, I know.”
“Good. Then I don’t need to introduce myself,” Zhao Xunyin said smoothly. Seeing Shi Nanbei’s nervousness, she raised an eyebrow. “If Miss Shi doesn’t mind, I’d like us to marry first.”
Shi Nanbei’s mind short-circuited.
“M-marry first?!”
Zhao Xunyin chuckled at her shocked expression.
“Yes. I’m older, and dating feels like a waste of time to me.”
Shi Nanbei was utterly dumbfounded, twisting her fingers as she stammered:
“But, but aren’t you, didn’t you say you were against marriage?”
After all, Zhao Xunyin’s so-called “no marriage” stance had been gossip fodder since her debut. Many thought it was just a publicity stunt, but over the years, she’d dated several people—some for a year or two, some for three or four—yet never once stepped into marriage.
Her most famous relationship had been with Shu Yu, the powerful CEO of Changsheng Entertainment.
Back then, Shi Nanbei was just a middle schooler. She remembered the endless tabloid rumors—claims that Zhao Xunyin was a kept woman, that she even had illegitimate children. Zhao Xunyin never bothered to refute them, letting the gossip grow until it became nearly public consensus.
That was, until one day Shu Yu herself stepped in. The notoriously cold and ruthless entertainment mogul personally posted on Weibo, releasing a cozy photo of the two of them cuddling on a sofa at home.
Shi Nanbei still remembered it clearly—Shu Yu, dressed down in loungewear, was smiling faintly at the camera, while a much younger Zhao Xunyin leaned in her arms, radiant and mischievous.
Shu Yu captioned it: “Mine.”
Cool, terse, possessive—classic Shu Yu.
Zhao Xunyin reposted it, adding: “Kiss me.”
Seductive, flamboyant—classic Zhao Xunyin.
Fans had declared them a match made in heaven. Everyone assumed such a perfect couple was destined for a happy ending. But a year after going public, they broke up.
Thus ended the legendary “Double Queen Romance,” leaving countless fans heartbroken. Even now, CP fans still lingered all over the internet, despite Shu Yu being married.
Back in the present, Zhao Xunyin tilted her head and asked lightly:
“When did I ever say I was against marriage?”
Shi Nanbei wilted, nibbling her fingertip, too timid to reply.
“Then, why me?” she asked softly. “I only came to this blind date because my grandma made me. I didn’t say I wanted to actually get married.”
“But your grandmother told me your biggest dream was to marry me,” Zhao Xunyin said with a teasing smile.
Shi Nanbei’s fair cheeks instantly turned scarlet.
Sure, she had said that once—but only back in middle school!
Yet, under Zhao Xunyin’s gaze, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse. And so, almost dazed, she let herself be whisked off to the Civil Affairs Bureau and walked out holding a marriage certificate.
Even then, Shi Nanbei still felt like she was dreaming—floating as though her feet barely touched the ground. She stole a glance at Zhao Xunyin beside her, face hidden behind sunglasses and a mask. The thought hit her like a thunderclap:
Had she really just married Zhao Xunyin?
“Um” Shi Nanbei began hesitantly.
Zhao Xunyin turned toward her.
Shi Nanbei looked from her to the little red booklet in her own hands, torn with worry.
“You’re not, you’re not going to announce this, right? I-I’m still in school.”
Zhao Xunyin’s eyes lingered on her for a moment. For reasons she couldn’t explain, Shi Nanbei found it hard to meet them head-on. She ducked her head, muttering:
“I’m still a student.”
Zhao Xunyin’s lips curved faintly beneath her mask. Her voice was low, magnetic.
“I won’t.”
Relieved, Shi Nanbei exhaled.
As they exited the Civil Affairs Bureau, Zhao Xunyin’s assistant came over. After exchanging WeChat contacts with Shi Nanbei, Zhao Xunyin prepared to leave.
Shi Nanbei stared blankly as the actress headed toward her car.
“Ah, you’re leaving already?” she asked in a daze. Didn’t they just get married?
Zhao Xunyin found her confusion amusing. She reached out, gently pinching the girl’s soft cheek.
“I still have work to get to,” she said warmly.
Shi Nanbei, ever the obedient child, immediately nodded.
“Okay.”
That unquestioning trust made Zhao Xunyin feel—perhaps keeping this marriage as it was might not be such a bad idea after all.
“Want me to drive you back to school?” she offered.
Shi Nanbei glanced at the low-key Audi A8 parked nearby, then at Zhao Xunyin’s carefully concealed face. Imagining the fallout if she arrived on campus with Zhao Xunyin, she shook her head quickly.
“No need. I can go back myself.”
“Then message me on WeChat if you need anything.”
With that, Zhao Xunyin got into the car and was whisked away.
Only after the car had vanished into the distance did Shi Nanbei come to her senses.
Had she really married Zhao Xunyin after just an hour of meeting her?
