- Out of Control Overnight: The Irritable Top Alpha Goes Mad Searching for His Wife
- Chapter 2 - Wife, Found You
The person in charge of the banquet was Shen Qing, but the host of the banquet was Lu Shijuan.
Shen Qing could feel the abnormality within his body. He pressed down the mist rising in his eyes; he hated anyone seeing him in a vulnerable state. Enduring the discomfort, he forced himself to remain calm and requested leave from Lu Shijuan.
“President Lu, I’d like to request a leave of absence.”
Lu Shijuan looked at the flush covering Shen Qing’s cheeks. Those usually cold, untouchable eyes were now misty and damp. Lu Shijuan’s Adam’s apple rolled, and he subconsciously moved closer to him.
But as soon as he approached, that pungent, almost dizzying scent of wine grew even heavier. It was so heavy that his vision blurred. What followed was a dense, needle-like stinging pain pricking his skin, especially at the back of his neck. The undeniable pain felt as if something was trying to break through, as if someone were hacking at his skin with a knife.
Faced with the discomfort, Shen Qing instinctively stepped back.
The moment he retreated, Lu Shijuan’s face darkened. He assertively reached out and grabbed him, narrowing his eyes. His pheromones blanketed Shen Qing’s body, hands, and even his hair, yet a cold smile still played at the corners of his mouth.
“Assistant Shen, what’s the meaning of this? Do you hate me now?”
Shen Qing’s vision grew even dizzier. Finally, he began to show weakness, and his voice turned soft. “Lu Shijuan, I do not feel well. I need to take leave.”
A sweet scent of white peach emanated from his skin. It was faint—so faint that it was undetectable unless one was close.
At this moment, Lu Shijuan simply thought Shen Qing had drunk white peach champagne and that his low alcohol tolerance was the cause.
“I’ll take you to the lounge and have the family doctor come over.” He held Shen Qing’s hand, his voice brooking no argument.
Shen Qing refused. “Lu Shijuan, you are the host of the banquet. I can go rest by myself.”
Lu Shijuan’s face was very dark, and his brow was tightly furrowed.
He was like a temperamental lion on the verge of an explosion. Seeing this, Shen Qing helplessly tried to soothe him.
“Lu Shijuan, be good.”
The dangerous aura instantly hit the pause button. Lu Shijuan was still displeased, breathing heavily as he inhaled the white peach scent on his close friend.
It was clearly an ordinary, common scent, yet he was addicted to it. He even rested his head on Shen Qing’s shoulder. Such a large man insisted on making a bizarre, clinging bird gesture.
“Assistant Shen, I do not want to be good.”
Shen Qing suppressed the urge to run.
It hurt too much.
The moment Lu Shijuan leaned in, that stinging pain spread throughout Shen Qing’s entire body. His body swayed. On the surface, he looked like he was just drunk and unsteady on his feet.
“Lu Shijuan, I am going to get angry.”
This trump card caused Lu Shijuan’s body to stiffen.
Shen Qing rarely got angry with him, but once he did, he was very hard to coax. Lu Shijuan did not like an angry Shen Qing, so he could only step back, albeit unwillingly.
“Go to my lounge. You know where it is. Once the banquet is over, I will come find you immediately.”
At the last moment, he added forcefully, “Do not run around, understand?”
Lu Shijuan had only taken over the company for a year and had just won a major battle. This banquet was his victory celebration. Shen Qing did not want him to leave midway, as it would lead to criticism.
Inside the VIP lounge suite.
Shen Qing loosened his tie and tore open his shirt buttons, but it still was not enough.
It was too hot.
It felt like being thrown into a steamer. He felt his every breath becoming abnormal, and more than that, the strangeness in his body became more pronounced.
Suddenly, his footsteps froze.
It was as if some unbreakable shackle had suddenly exploded.
The fresh, sweet pheromones of white peach instantly filled the entire lounge. Shen Qing slid from the sofa onto the carpet. The usually fair, exquisite, and cold Assistant Shen was now stained with intense color, looking incredibly beautiful.
The corners of his eyes were slightly red, his long and thick eyelashes drooped weakly, and his rosy lips were parted, looking utterly enticing.
At this moment, Shen Qing still thought he had been drugged. Before he could think about what had gone wrong, he stumbled into the bathroom. Without even having time to turn on the light, his hands trembling, he turned on the faucet and soaked himself in the bathtub.
He tried to use the cold water to calm himself down and lower his temperature.
But as time passed, instead of any improvement, the condition worsened.
Finally, he opened his moist eyes in the water.
No.
This was no longer a situation he could handle on his own.
He tried to pick up the phone that had dropped beside the tub, intending to call for help. But just as he stretched out half his body, his hand trembling as it gripped the phone, the lounge door was brutally forced open.
The lights in the lounge were not on; the only light came from the neon town outside the massive floor-to-ceiling windows.
The vibrant neon lights, filtered through the glass, added a layer of dreamlike yet unreal illumination.
The moment Lu Shijuan broke through the door, he lost control, hit by the overwhelming white peach pheromones.
The taste of white peach he had only sampled briefly at the banquet had left him wanting more; now that it was fully presented before him, his rationality vanished instantly.
At this moment, only one thought filled his mind.
He had to find him.
He had to mark him.
He had to have him!
Steady footsteps sounded deafening in the quiet lounge. Beat after beat, they thumped against Shen Qing’s heart. It caused his hand, which had just gripped the phone, to shake.
Fortunately, the phone did not slip.
Shen Qing’s hands were covered in water droplets. He had not even had time to take off his clothes before soaking himself in the ice-cold bathtub. At this moment, the faucet was still splashing loudly. He forced himself to lie back in the tub.
The cold water allowed him to regain a sliver of logic. Holding the phone, he just unlocked it, wanting to ask a colleague, one of Lu Shijuan’s other assistants, to come help find a doctor.
In the next second, a tall figure loomed over him.
He slowly raised his head. The light in the bathroom was at its dimmest, unlike outside, but he smelled a pungent scent of wine.
Again, Shen Qing did not know much about alcohol; he only knew it was strong, suffocatingly so, making one’s consciousness hazy.
He blinked his eyes vulnerably. Sensing that the newcomer was Lu Shijuan, he instinctively let out a sigh of relief.
Lu Shijuan looked down at him. The darkness behind him bared its fangs and claws like his pheromones, completely surrounding the person before him.
His eyes had long since lost their usual clarity. Tilting his head, he let out a sigh like a demon and smiled hoarsely.
“Found you.”
The phone interface was still lit, but with those words, it suddenly went dark.
Deprived of the only light, the sudden plunge into darkness made Shen Qing’s heart race.
“Lu Shijuan? Are you in your rut?”
Compared to him, Shen Qing was actually the one with a bit of sanity left. He keenly sensed the problem, but currently, he could hardly protect himself. He struggled to unlock the phone again, gritting his teeth as he tried to soothe the other man. “I will find someone to help you.”
The phone interface lit up once more, but before he could dial, a large, well-defined hand calmly snatched the phone from his grasp in the next second.
Shen Qing trusted Lu Shijuan. Even though he realized something was wrong with the man, he had not raised his guard, only staring at him blankly.
At this moment, he even though the other man wanted to make the call himself.
Until, he saw his phone being heartlessly tossed into the cold bathtub by the other man.
With a loud clunk, the phone went silent.
Shen Qing’s pupils shrank violently.
