Not A Stupid Beauty [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 19
Shi Yu said “Mhm” and hung up. She hugged her knees and curled up.
Does Pei Shuyu know that Jiang Qiuyan likes her? If she does, what would she choose?
Her mind was a jumbled mess. She couldn’t sort out her thoughts. Shi Yu closed her eyes and huddled in a corner of the sofa. She wasn’t much bigger than a cushion.
Jiang Qiuyan texted her every hour. Shi Yu wasn’t annoyed; instead, she responded patiently and seriously, so Jiang Qiuyan could calm down and focus on her work.
In the evening, Pei Shuyu contacted her again and said she was near her apartment.
Shi Yu took her phone and went out. She bumped into the maid who was coming back from grocery shopping and told her she was going out. The maid nodded in agreement, but it took her a while to remember Jiang Qiuyan’s instructions.
“Oh no! Miss Jiang said I had to keep a close eye on Miss Yu and not let her go out alone.”
She turned around, but Shuiyu was already gone.
When she arrived at the coffee shop where Pei Shuyu was, they sat in silence. After a while, Pei Shuyu finally asked, “Have you been doing well?”
Shi Yu nodded and asked in return, “What about you? Did your parents scold you?”
They both knew what she meant. Pei Shuyu didn’t deny it. “It’s okay, Xiaoyu. I don’t blame you.”
“You don’t blame her, but she’s stabbing a knife right into your heart!”
A cold voice came from behind them. It was Pei Yi. Shi Yu instinctively shivered. She looked up at Pei Shuyu, who avoided her gaze and said in a low voice, “I’m sorry, Xiaoyu. I had no choice.”
Pei Yi sat next to Pei Shuyu with a proud look. “Tell me. What will it take for you to leave?”
Shi Yu didn’t want to talk to her and stubbornly refused to speak.
“I know what you’re thinking. You’re just trying to get on our nerves and make some money, right? Your mother was the same way, but you saw what happened to her. I don’t want to say anything too harsh. If you’re smart, you’ll make a decision that benefits everyone.”
I’m really not a smart person, Shuiyu thought to herself. Her brain was nowhere near smart.
But she still asked, “What is a decision that benefits everyone?”
Pei Yi saw that she had convinced her. She took a card out of her purse and placed it in front of her. “There’s five million here. Leave this place and never come back.”
She could have used other methods to deal with Shi Yu, but now that the situation had become so public, it was better to solve it in a simple way.
Seeing Shi Yu hesitate, Pei Yi’s eyes darkened. “You think it’s not enough? If you promise to stop clinging to Jiang Qiuyan, I can give you another five million.”
“You’re very generous, ma’am.”
Ten million might not be much to Pei Yi, but to her, it was an astronomical number. With this money, she wouldn’t have to live a life with no future.
But Shi Yu was still instinctively resistant. She knew that taking Pei Yi’s money would be betraying Jiang Qiuyan, and she didn’t want to do that.
“Take the money back. I don’t want it.”
Pei Yi was instantly furious. She raised her voice a few octaves. “Do you want to be a home-wrecker your entire life like your mother? Ruining other people’s families will bring down divine punishment! Before I get angrier, get out of Haishi and stop being so shameless!”
As much as she hated her, she had always thought Pei Yi was a person of substance and class. But now, she doesn’t think so anymore.
“I was already planning to leave anyway, but since you put it that way, I’ll take the money.”
Shi Yu grabbed the card, got up, and walked out without looking back.
“You better keep your word!” Pei Yi yelled from behind her.
Shi Yu stopped and replied, “You don’t need to worry about that. After I leave, remember to transfer the other five million to the card.”
Pei Yi’s eyes narrowed, and she looked at her back with a dark expression.
“Mom, weren’t we too harsh on Xiaoyu?”
“Too harsh? Was it not too harsh when she stole your fiancé?”
Seeing her mother’s bad expression, Pei Shuyu didn’t dare to say anything else.
Shuiyu put the card in her pocket and walked aimlessly down the street. She didn’t want to go back and face Jiang Qiuyan. When she saw her smiling eyes, she wouldn’t want to leave.
“Xiaoyu!”
As the voice came, she was pulled into an embrace. The force was so strong that it hurt her chest.
A familiar scent filled her nose. Shuiyu wrapped her arms around Jiang Qiuyan’s slender waist and rubbed her face against her neck.
“Where did you go? I’ve been looking for you for a long time!”
After saying that, she hugged Shi Yu even tighter, as if she were holding a treasure she had found again.
From her hurried breathing, Shi Yu knew she had run all the way here. Her heart skipped a beat. Does Jiang Qiuyan like me a little, too? she wondered.
“Pei Shuyu asked to meet.”
Jiang Qiuyan’s expression froze. “Did you meet? What did you talk about?”
Shi Yu rarely saw Jiang Qiuyan so nervous. It seemed she was afraid that she would say something to Pei Shuyu.
Shi Yu scoffed at her own previous delusion. She looked at her and said, “Yes, we met. We just exchanged a few pleasantries. Don’t worry. I didn’t say anything to her.”
Even if she wanted to, what could she say? Jiang Qiuyan had treated her as a replacement from the very beginning and never gave her any reason to have any misunderstandings.
Jiang Qiuyan’s face changed, and she tried to explain, “That’s not what I meant…”
“Let’s go home. Auntie must have already made dinner.”
Shi Yu gently pushed her away and walked toward the apartment ahead of her. Jiang Qiuyan stared at her thin back, the uneasiness in her heart growing heavier.
Jiang Qiuyan started coming home late and leaving early. To keep a better eye on Shi Yu, she installed a surveillance camera in the apartment and asked the maid to stay with Shuiyu until she came back.
Shi Yu thought about the reason why she had become like this. It was after she met Pei Shuyu.
It seems she’s really afraid of me doing something to Pei Shuyu.
Shi Yu thought of the scenes in TV dramas where the home-wrecker confronts the original partner and couldn’t help but laugh out loud. As she laughed, her eyes felt sore.
When Jiang Qiuyan came home from work, she saw Shi Yu sitting on the balcony with her knees to her chest. The last rays of the setting sun shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the glistening tears in the little omega’s eyes.
Jiang Qiuyan walked over and hugged her. “What’s wrong? Why are you crying all of a sudden?” she asked softly.
Shi Yu slowly turned her head and gave her a brilliant smile. The moisture in her eyes turned into tears and fell onto Jiang Qiuyan’s hand, a scorching feeling that made her heart ache.
“I suddenly miss my mom. I’ve never gone to see her since she passed away.”
Jiang Qiuyan knew she was lying, but she still decided to take her to her mother’s grave because she knew Shi Yu was unhappy.
If she’s unhappy by my side, I’ll do my best to make her happy.
She could do anything, but she would never let Shuiyu leave her.
The expensive car drove on the desolate, small road, looking out of place in its surroundings. The weather, which was sunny in the morning, was now covered in dark clouds. The air in the car was sticky and uncomfortable.
Shi Yu rolled down the window, feeling the misty wind, but her thoughts were slowly getting blurry.
She seemed to hear someone calling her name. She opened her mouth but couldn’t make a sound.
It felt like she was being roasted over a fire. Her entire body was in a burning pain, and her bones ached. It felt like she would break with just a light touch.
Someone touched her cheeks and forehead. The cold sensation brought her a moment of clarity.
Shuiyu turned her head and saw Jiang Qiuyan’s concerned eyes.
“Xiaoyu, why are you…”
Her lips were covered with a soft touch. Jiang Qiuyan’s voice was swallowed. Her eyes changed slightly, and she slowly slid her hand down to Shuiyu’s waist.
In the midst of the summer storm, Shuiyu’s heat came.
