Chapter 13: Qing-qing Could Crush You with One Finger…
“Did you find something?” Wu Yi was never the type to hold back. He walked over quickly, circling behind Qing Zhu to lean in and look.
Unfortunately, Uncle Fu’s handwriting was incredibly flamboyant. It was clear he had intentionally written in a scrawl to keep secrets, leaving Wu Yi staring with a bitter face for a long while without understanding a single word.
“Did Mr. Qing discover anything?” Cen Yue also looked up.
Qing Zhu’s finger tapped the paper, and he let out an ambiguous, low chuckle. “Nothing particularly important.”
Wu Yi whispered, “Don’t be a tease, just tell me.”
Since he was urged, Qing Zhu summarized: “There’s a man surnamed Qin.”
Qin?
Wu Yi didn’t think this was very important news. After all, it was just a surname, and that made the scope of their search far too wide.
“Could your body be with him?”
“Perhaps.” Qing Zhu seemed even calmer than Wu Yi, as if he didn’t care at all.
Wu Yi felt bored. “That’s so unexciting.”
“I can’t remember these things clearly myself.” Qing Zhu flipped another page, a hint of a smile in his voice. It seemed that if Wu Yi found it boring, he found it amusing.
“…”
Wu Yi was about to ignore him, but his interest was piqued again. He couldn’t help but lean in close to him like a little shadow.
“What is it? Can you read it to me?”
In the past, Qing Zhu would have mocked him for being illiterate, but with Cen Yue present, he didn’t want to waste words. He actually began to read a simplified version of the story to Wu Yi.
“Sixty years ago, there were five people by my side. Currently, Fu An has written about a sixth.”
Wu Yi was thoroughly confused. “So many? Then… do you really remember nothing from before you fell into your deep sleep?”
“Nothing.”
Wu Yi couldn’t help but sigh. “But since you sealed parts of your memory and power within Fu An, is it possible you split yourself into six parts—one for each person? That would be safer, wouldn’t it?”
His little brain suddenly became quite active; the more he spoke, the smarter he felt.
Qing Zhu glanced at him and, for once, offered some praise: “It’s possible.”
“So if you want to find all your memories and power, you have to find these six people first.” Wu Yi rested his chin in his hand, his soft cheeks squished against his palm, making his red lips look extra plump.
“That’s going to be hard. What if they all passed away like Uncle Fu?”
Even finding Fu Liuye’s house had been a stroke of luck related to Mind-Power. Otherwise, they would still be searching for high-energy targets just to earn a tiny bit of power to maintain Qing Zhu’s form.
Qing Zhu pondered for a moment and turned to Cen Yue. “Did Fu An have any close friends during his life?”
“He had many friends, but I knew most of them…” Cen Yue looked troubled. “I doubt Lao Fu would have shared this with them. He was always a bit of a loner in private; his friends were all business partners. In all our years of marriage, he never kept secrets from me, and I never saw him engage in any ‘other’ activities.”
Qing Zhu nodded and stopped asking.
Wu Yi’s mind was full of questions, but before he could voice them, the driver arrived. Cen Yue took the opportunity to usher him out the door.
Once he arrived at the shop, Wu Yi stopped thinking about those matters. He briefly handled some recent event details before being coaxed by a refined-looking Wen Ya to help out in the front.
“We are swamped right now. We haven’t hired new staff yet, and our usual part-timers are busy. I’ll have to trouble the boss.”
Wu Yi let her tie the apron around his waist, asking suspiciously, “Since when is business this good?”
Wen Ya quickly tied a beautiful bow, looking at his cinched waistline with satisfaction. Then she looked at his stunningly beautiful face, and her work-related stress evaporated instantly.
“Did you forget? Auntie Cen came by a few days ago. She said she’d give us some advice on restructuring. I asked you about it, remember?”
Wu Yi was a bit hazy; he remembered something like that, but not the specifics.
“You said to listen to Auntie Cen. The very next day, she brought people over to rearrange the layout. Now we’re selling both desserts and drinks. We’ve also had people promote us, and two videos on the shop’s account went viral. Business has indeed picked up quite a bit.”
As she spoke, she pushed Wu Yi toward the cash register.
“There’s too much to make in the back. Boss, just stand here as our ‘storefront’ face. We’d be so grateful!”
Though she called him “Boss,” her tone was like she was talking to a child, causing the customers near the register to chuckle.
“He’s so young and he’s the manager?”
“For real? Probably the manager’s son.”
“He’s so pretty.”
Wu Yi felt a bit shy but offered a polite smile. “Hello, what would you like to order?”
A long-haired girl holding her friend’s arm leaned in with a smile. “We’re eating in. Do you have hot drinks?”
“We have milk tea here.” Wu Yi enlarged the screen to help them choose.
They looked like students from a nearby university. They quickly decided on their orders amidst their chatting.
“That will be 169. You can scan the code here.” Wu Yi gestured, but before the girl could bring her phone over, she was nudged aside by a man behind her.
“Hey, didn’t we agree to let what’s-his-name pay?”
The girl’s expression became conflicted. “Is that right? We’re the ones eating; making him run over just to pay is a bit much, isn’t it?”
“Yo, Brother Qin said it. He’s covering our meals this week. Besides, we can save some allowance. What’s the rush?”
The men spoke with a mix of mockery and expectation. Wu Yi watched as the two girls fell silent and asked, “Who is paying for this?”
The man who had spoken rudely turned to him with a smile. “We’ll pay in a bit. We’re eating here anyway. Someone’s coming to treat us, and we’ll probably add more items then.”
Wu Yi was silent for a moment but nodded. “Alright. You can also pay by scanning the code on the table.”
“Got it.”
The group noisily walked toward a window seat, their voices exceptionally loud.
A few minutes later, two employees from the office building across the street came in for coffee. After taking their order, Wu Yi saw Wen Ya coming out with some beautifully layered sparkling drinks. He waited for her to serve them before gesturing toward the window.
Wen Ya was in the shop year-round; her friendly personality meant she was on good terms with regular customers. One look was enough for her to recognize them.
“Hmm, they look a bit familiar. Those two girls are regulars; they’re probably from your school. I’ve heard them mention it.”
Wu Yi just watched the three men who kept glancing out the door, clearly waiting for someone.
“They haven’t paid yet.”
Wen Ya immediately became alert. “I’ll keep an eye on them.”
Just as she spoke, the door opened. The two staff members making coffee habitually called out a welcome, but the men by the window were even more enthusiastic. They stood up and waved.
“Hey! Over here!”
Wu Yi looked and saw a young man in a worn blue-and-white jacket walk in. He was panting as if he had run from a long distance. Despite the cold, there was sweat on his brow, and his face didn’t look well.
“That little guy looks so honest,” Wen Ya remarked from behind.
Wu Yi didn’t know much about people, but the man looked familiar, as if he had seen him somewhere before.
The young man walked to the table, seemingly confused as to why they had called him, until two of the men stood up, grabbed his shoulders, and half-shoved him toward the register.
Seeing the commotion, Wen Ya instinctively stepped forward.
“Hello, checking out?”
One of the men laughed. “Yeah. Give us three more orders of egg tarts to go. The large ones, twelve pieces.”
Wu Yi frowned, watching Wen Ya take the order.
“That will be 373 in total.”
The young man caught in the middle turned pale as soon as he heard the number.
“I didn’t bring that much money.”
“Oh, so what? Go get some. There’s a bank across the street.”
“Exactly. We’re hanging out here for a while anyway. Pay what you have first; don’t make the pretty server wait.”
Wen Ya’s smile was stiff, but she didn’t push.
“I didn’t bring my card either.” The young man was anxious. He fumbled through his pockets and pulled out several crumpled bills.
One 50, three 10s, two 5s, and a handful of 1-yuan bills.
He counted for a long time and came up with 106. Then he pulled out his phone, looking at Wen Ya apologetically.
“I’ll pay 106 in cash and scan for 200. Is that okay?”
Even Wen Ya was shocked. She asked tactfully, “How will you pay the remaining 67?”
The group was causing such a scene that other customers were staring. Under their gaze, the young man’s face flushed red and white.
“Just let him pay the rest later. He’ll go get the money and come back. Don’t worry, we won’t run away.”
Wen Ya hesitated, but Wu Yi couldn’t hold back. “Why don’t you guys cover it for now? It’s a waste of time to go back and forth.”
The two men looked at the elegant young man in front of them. “It’s fine. We’re not in a hurry, and he has plenty of time.”
“…”
The young man in the middle clenched his teeth, seemingly undergoing a fierce internal struggle. Finally, he turned to his “friends” and whispered, “Can you cover me for now? I can’t leave my part-time job for too long, otherwise, today will be a waste.”
“What’s that got to do with us? You promised Brother Qin, didn’t you? Who told you to touch his stuff? That new phone costs over ten thousand. Making you cover our meals and run errands for a week is a bargain. Or do you want me to call Brother Qin right now and tell him you’re not cooperating, so he should just ask for the phone money back?”
At these words, the young man fell silent again, his head bowed in distress.
Wen Ya couldn’t stand it. “You’re classmates, there’s no need for this. Actually…”
Before she could finish, Wu Yi tapped her shoulder. Understanding the signal, she fell silent and stepped back.
Wu Yi tapped a few keys on the screen and said calmly, “I’ll cover the rest for you. Go back to work. Just come back and pay when you have the time.”
The young man looked at him in disbelief. The two men beside him were also stunned.
“You… why are you sticking your nose in other people’s business?”
Wu Yi ignored them, printed the receipt, and pushed it onto the counter.
The two men were about to start a fuss, but their companions at the table couldn’t take it anymore and came over to intervene.
“That’s enough. Is this really necessary?”
“It’s paid for anyway. You really want him to go get money? What if something happens to him because he’s in a rush? We’d be responsible.”
“Exactly, exactly.”
While they were arguing, Wu Yi caught the young man’s eye. The youth understood, gave a grateful nod, and hurried out the door.
One of the men’s face soured. After realizing what happened, he glared at Wu Yi. “What’s your problem? Mind your own business.”
Wu Yi didn’t care. Instead, looking at these two, he felt increasingly annoyed. He said crossly, “You’re all students from the same school. Is this really necessary?”
“What’s it to you?” the man snapped. He looked like he was bursting with rage with nowhere to vent. Before being pulled away by his friend, he glared at Wu Yi. “You just wait.”
“…”
How childish.
Wu Yi pouted, not taking it to heart at all.
What could these two elementary-school-level bullies even do to him? Qing-qing could crush them with one finger.
