“Shu Luo, still in bed? Xiao Mu is already here. Look at you, you haven’t even had breakfast yet. Hurry and get up!” Shu’s mom pulled off the blanket and gave Shu Luo a good pat on the bottom.
“Hmph… Just a little while longer. I’m not hungry.” Shu Luo mumbled as he curled up in the blanket, refusing to get up.
Shu’s mom stood with her hands on her hips, feeling helpless. It was a chore trying to get this rascal out of bed!
Shu Luo finally, reluctantly, got out of bed. He came downstairs with a terrible mess of hair, his movements all wobbly.
“Oh, little cutie is finally up,” Jiang’s mom said with a smile, looking at Shu Luo.
Shu Luo looked at the two well-rested people in the living room, especially Jiang Mu, who was wearing the same school uniform. Damn! How does he make the same uniform look so different? I need to go wash up and look cooler than him.
Jiang Mu looked at the small boy’s frame and had a sudden premonition that the future might not be so great.
“I’m ready, I’m ready, we can go to school now.” After washing up, he felt he looked handsome and adjusted his uniform as he walked out the door, even pausing to admire his reflection in the door frame.
“How can I be this handsome!”
After watching Shu Luo’s morning routine of vanity, Jiang’s mom couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “Shu Luo is so cute, isn’t he, Xiao Mu?”
Jiang Mu, seeing Shu Luo still showing off, chuckled lightly. “He is.”
“You rascal, you haven’t eaten breakfast yet!” Shu’s mom hurried out, but there wasn’t enough time. She grabbed a piece of bread and some milk, putting them in his backpack. “Remember to eat these. If you don’t, I’ll punish you when you get home!”
“Why are you bullying a child…” Shu Luo pouted, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Shu’s mom ignored him and said to Jiang’s mom, “I’m sorry to trouble you with dropping him off at school.”
“It’s no trouble at all. The two boys are going together anyway.” Once in the car, Shu Luo wasn’t still for a moment, looking everywhere with great curiosity.
Jiang Mu had never met anyone like Shu Luo before, someone with what seemed like ADHD, never calm for a single moment.
“Shu Luo, can you be quiet for a little while?” Shu Luo looked at him, completely bewildered. “Huh? I’m not quiet?”
Jiang Mu just… “…” Never mind, he shouldn’t have asked.
Then Shu Luo took the bread out of his backpack and asked Jiang’s mom, “Auntie, can I eat a piece of bread in your car?”
“Of course you can, but be careful not to choke.”
Shu Luo happily took big bites, but then he suddenly looked terrified and thumped his chest. “I’m… I’m… choking…”
Jiang Mu calmly patted him on the back, with an expression that said, I knew this would happen. Then he took the milk out of his backpack, opened it, and handed it to him.
“Drink it all down.”
Shu Luo gulped down the whole bottle of milk, and only then did he feel better.
“Oh my gosh, you scared me.” He then glanced at Jiang Mu, feeling a little embarrassed, and quietly lowered his head to continue nibbling his bread.
This time, he took small bites like a little squirrel. “Haha…” Jiang Mu laughed out loud, genuinely finding this little guy interesting.
“By the way, from now on, I’ll pick you both up after school. You two can come home together.”
“Okay.”
Well, apparently his opinion wasn’t needed at all. “Luo Luo, is that okay? I’ll come pick you up after school. Wait for your Brother Mu. If I’m busy, you two can walk home together; it’s good to have a companion.”
“Brother Mu,” ew! Shu Luo got goosebumps, but he silently nodded anyway.
Jiang Mu just smiled.
When they arrived at school, Shu Luo suddenly thought of something. “So, which class are you in?”
“Oh, I think I’m in the same class as you.”
Shu Luo just… “…”
Oh well, my heart feels a little heavy.
Class 8 was buzzing with excitement and curiosity because of the new student, especially the girls. At this stage, many boys hadn’t hit their growth spurts yet and were still smaller than the girls. So, a handsome mixed-heritage boy who looked even better than a character from a manga was sure to cause a stir.
“Hey, Shu Luo, I heard the new student is your neighbor?” His best friend since kindergarten, Zhang Feiyang, was incredibly curious.
Shu Luo nodded, looking a little depressed. “Yeah, his name is Jiang Mu. He’s a mixed-heritage boy who just moved in a few days ago.”
“Oh-ho, is someone feeling insecure?” The voice of Zhong Qing drifted over, likely on purpose. “Is it because he’s better looking than you?”
Shu Luo’s hair bristled. “That’s a woman’s opinion! Do I look like the kind of petty person who’d think that?”
Zhong Qing pursed her lips. “Pfft, don’t misuse idioms. What I said is a fact, so it’s not a ‘woman’s opinion.'”
Just then, the teacher walked in, with Jiang Mu, of course, following behind.
A mixed-heritage classmate, and he’s so handsome! The students below didn’t dare to discuss it too loudly, so they whispered to their desk partners.
“Hello, my name is Jiang Mu.”
“Jiang Mu, are you really of mixed heritage?” The bold girl, Zhong Qing, asked the question on everyone’s mind. Jiang Mu’s attitude was excellent. “Yes, my father is French.”
“You look so tall! How tall are you? You’re way taller than the boys in our class.”
The boys in the class: “…”
“Haha, I’m only 170 centimeters tall.”
“Wow… 170? You must be two meters tall one day!”
Shu Luo looked at everyone with a mocking expression, resting his chin on the back of his hand. What’s the big deal? So he’s a little tall and good-looking? Hmph!
“Alright, everyone, you can ask questions after class. Jiang Mu, you can sit next to Shu Luo. His seat has been disliked for a long time.”
Hey, hey! What does she mean, “disliked for a long time?” This is a legendary seat! Shu Luo rolled his eyes, then glared at Jiang Mu as he walked to his side. “So, you’re being ostracized by everyone.”
“Who said that? I’m telling you, this is a legendary seat. The people who sit here are not ordinary people, I’m telling you.”
Jiang Mu didn’t pay attention to his explanation and neatly organized his books and belongings.
“Hey, I’m talking to you!” Shu Luo knocked on his desk.
Zhong Qing couldn’t stand it anymore. “Shu Luo, you’re just looking for trouble! Can’t you see he doesn’t want to bother with you? And no one cares about your seat!”
Shu Luo grumbled unhappily and said no more. “Zhong Qing, why do you always bully my Shu Luo, hmph! Just because you’re a loudmouth!”
Zhang Feiyang, acting like he was protecting him, put his hand on Shu Luo’s shoulder and looked at Zhong Qing dismissively. Jiang Mu casually glanced at Zhang Feiyang’s hand on Shu Luo’s shoulder, a meaningful look in his eyes.
“Haha, go ahead and keep spoiling Shu Luo. Look at how smug he is.”
Zhong Qing tossed her beautiful braid and turned to leave. Zhang Feiyang patted Shu Luo’s face in a comforting manner. “Shu Luo, don’t get worked up over women.”
Shu Luo just pouted without saying a word. Zhang Feiyang knew this would happen, so he shrugged nonchalantly and went back to his seat.
Jiang Mu looked at Shu Luo, who had already put his head on the desk, and couldn’t help but smile silently. He’s younger than me but even more arrogant. When he meets someone stronger, he gets timid. Haha.
“What? Laughing at me?” Shu Luo turned his face toward him and said sourly.
“Nothing. Just looking.”
“I know you’re laughing at me, but I’m telling you, my mom taught me you can get mad at anyone but women, because they are fierce with their words. Once you start arguing, it’s a disaster. I usually just talk back a couple of times to get it out of my system and then hold it in.”
Seeing Shu Luo so serious, with his delicate and fair face and eyes that sparkled as he spoke, occasionally revealing dimples, he was quite cute.
“That’s very gentlemanly of you.”
Seeing that Jiang Mu seemed to agree with him, he happily raised an eyebrow. “Right? Right? Haha, I thought so too.”
He was indeed easily pleased, but it made you want to spoil him. Jiang Mu then ran his hand over the back of his head where his hair was sticking up. “You didn’t comb your hair, did you?” “What?! Is my hair a mess?!” He anxiously touched the back of his head, muttering to himself.
Jiang Mu’s lips curved in a silent smile.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, he’s such a devil at this age. What will he be like when he’s older? I don’t think any of the seniors in high school are as handsome as Jiang Mu.”
A group of girls not far away, Zhong Qing, watched the two of them and said, “I actually think Shu Luo is pretty good-looking, he’s just young.” “He’s the youngest in the class. He’s a little kid who’s always acting arrogant.”
Zhong Qing, however, smiled. “It’s his arrogance that makes him so appealing.”
“Huh? I thought you found him annoying!”
“I do, yeah.”
Zhong Qing looked at the brightly smiling Shu Luo. “But I don’t dislike him!”
