Mysterious Beautiful Wife at Home (GL) - Chapter 05
Zhang Yuning prepared breakfast again; sandwiches with milk, and also made coffee and Chinese-style breakfast options for Chi Nian to choose from. The fridge was stocked with semi-prepared ingredients, making cooking quick and easy. She wasn’t sure if Chi Nian was picky about food, so this was the best she could do.
Sitting at the dining table, she heard the sound of running water from the bathroom. Chi Nian must be showering. Zhang Yuning had
no appetite, so she wandered around the house and went to the adjacent office area, discovering that the inner room was a gym and
game room.
Accompanying Chi Nian like this felt like wasting her life. She wondered if she could gather any useful information and when the
mysteries in her heart would finally unravel. Standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, she watched the early morning glow
struggling to break free from the darkness.
Skyscrapers pierced through the thick fog, their towering peaks disappearing and reappearing in the mist. The glass walls faintly
reflected the weak morning sunlight. Once the sun fully rose, its blinding rays would first strike these arrogant high-rises that
thought they overlooked the world.
Normally at this hour, she’d still be lazing in bed. Having stayed up all night, this was her first time witnessing such a sunrise
in Liuli City.
Just as she was lost in thought, Chi Nian’s voice called out, “Come keep me company while I eat breakfast.”
Zhang Yuning turned her head and froze. Chi Nian stood at the sliding door, wearing a long white T-shirt—smooth, sheer, and
seemingly nothing underneath. The fabric cascaded down, revealing her slender, smooth legs in full view. The transparent material
did little to conceal her graceful yet curvaceous figure. She had only buttoned the third and fourth buttons, leaving the swell of
her chest and its firm peaks faintly visible through the thin fabric. The black panties underneath were entirely exposed, even the
lace trim at the edges clearly discernible.
Perhaps because she had just showered, her long hair hung half-dry, a few droplets of water sliding down her collarbone and
dampening the shirt, creating a translucent effect that invited wild imaginations.
“I already ate,” Zhang Yuning said, her appetite gone.
“Then sit with me while I eat.” Without waiting for a response, Chi Nian turned away. The shirt was shorter in the front, barely
covering her hips, like an ancient sheer robe. So thin that nothing was truly hidden.
Zhang Yuning didn’t refuse. Being overly emotional would be pointless. Their current relationship was ambiguous at best. Calling
Chi Nian her boss didn’t quite fit, especially since no salary had been mentioned. Claiming to be a bodyguard as repayment for
physical favors was just a superficial excuse.
A dark gray rectangular dining table separated the two. Chi Nan had indeed brought out that bag, placing it beside her. Zhang
Yuning remained silent, the picture of an obedient subordinate.
Chi Nian looked at the sandwich with a faint, unreadable smile but picked it up anyway.
“What’s so funny? The breakfast is simple, but it’s all I know how to make.” Zhang Yuning knew that for someone like Chi Nian, this
level of meal was rudimentary. But she was just an ordinary person, no gourmet skills here.
“Nothing, it’s fine.” Chi Nian ate slowly, never speaking with food in her mouth. Her manners were refined, her movements
deliberate, fitting her privileged upbringing.
Zhang Yuning didn’t speak further. Right now, she still couldn’t see through this person. Chi Nian was like a shifting fog;
sometimes thick, sometimes thin. Truthfully, she rarely ever got truly angry, her emotions unnervingly stable. Only in certain
moments did she react unusually.
But who really knew what she was like beneath it all?
“What’s next?” Zhang Yuning asked. “We can’t just stay here every day, can’t we?” She also wanted to know what Chi Nian’s next move
would be and what useful information she might extract.
Having just finished her meal, Chi Nian calmly sipped plain water, picked up her coffee and bag, and headed toward the work area
without any intention of changing clothes. As she walked, she said, “I’ll be working inside all day. I’ll let you know if I need
anything from you.”
“Can I go out?” Zhang Yuning wanted to return to the clinic to arrange some matters and, ideally, meet with Third Miss to report
her plans and discuss better strategies.
Although she couldn’t tell whether this Chi Nian was genuine or what her motives were, given the potential upheaval involving the
Chi family, Third Miss should be informed. Perhaps she might uncover something suspicious.
If Chi Nian wasn’t planning to go out today, leaving briefly under secure conditions shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Afraid of being rejected again, Zhang Yuning added, “I’ll be back soon—, just an hour.”
Chi Nian paused at the sliding door, turned back, and looked at her. Her eyes were as deep as luminous pearls, shimmering even in
daylight. What lay hidden in her gaze? Why did it always feel like she could see right through to the heart?
She smiled faintly. “No.” The smile was beautiful, but the words were infuriating!
Once again, Zhang Yuning was refused. Chi Nian always said “no” so effortlessly, completely disregarding her feelings.
“Name your salary. Take your time to think about it, no rush.” With that, Chi Nian walked to her desk and settled into the vast
office space alone.
Salary? Zhang Yuning chuckled. So, it had come to this? She didn’t need money, getting by was enough. This whole situation had
unfolded inexplicably, and she had only stepped into it deliberately. What she wanted wasn’t money.
Right now, she was deeply curious about Chi Nian. What would happen next, what Chi Nian would do, how the Chi family would react,
and what Third Miss would decide once she knew. Unraveling this chain of truths was enough to keep Zhang Yuning interested.
What she wanted to know most was: Why had Chi Nian chosen her?
Zhang Yuning would fulfill her duties as a bodyguard; obeying orders without question. If she wasn’t allowed to leave, she
wouldn’t. To pass the time, she went to the gym to box or read up on IT technology, a personal interest that brought her joy.
From time to time, Chi Nian issued commands: “Bring me water,” “Coffee,” “Dessert,” or “Sit beside me and stay.” Apart from
bathroom breaks, she barely left her desk. The office was so advanced that even the glass walls functioned as display screens,
segmented into multiple panels that could switch channels freely, all controlled by Chi Nian’s computer.
She spent the entire day staring at screens, occasionally jotting notes on her laptop. What she recorded, Zhang Yuning didn’t know.
This smart system was likely a standard setup from the R&D base, something that might become a mainstream trend in the future.
The real issue was Chi Nian sitting in the formal office area wearing that sheer blouse. It looked entirely inappropriate yet
delivered a sensory jolt. The professional office setting paired with a disheveled beauty created an unsettling contrast. Every
time Zhang Yu Ning entered, she maintained perfect composure, but whenever Chi Nian swiveled her executive chair to face her
directly, that translucent visual effect made it impossible to stay calm.
Though their intimate encounters existed only in fragmented memories, the sight of Chi Nian’s revealing outfits and captivating
smiles would replay those moments; heated embraces, desperate kisses on an endless loop in her mind.
Zhang Yu Ning always forced herself to detach, treating Chi Nian’s allure as something distant. It was her most effective escape
tactic. She refused to let one-night trap her in something deeper.
After all, who knew what schemes Chi Nian was hiding?
As dusk fell, Chi Nian finally stood up, stretching before issuing her final order of the day: “Xiao Zhang, make dinner.”
“Never heard of bodyguards cooking,” Zhang Yu Ning muttered half-heartedly. She was hired for security, not domestic duties yet
here she was, serving breakfast, delivering lunch, and now preparing dinner. The only thing left was sharing a bed.
“You don’t have to limit yourself to just being a bodyguard.”
“Then what else?”
“You could be a live-in…” Chi Nian deliberately slowed her speech.
Zhang Yu Ning’s head snapped up in surprise.
“…roommate,” Chi Nian finished with a smile. “Interpret it however you like. No need to overthink it.” Her tone was gentle as she
turned to stretch, raising her arms until the hem of her blouse crept upward, threatening to expose her underwear.
Zhang Yu Ning lunged forward, yanking the curtains shut with a sharp pull.
The sudden movement froze Chi Nian mid-stretch. She blinked. “What are you doing, Xiao Zhang?”
“The opposite building can see everything.” Zhang Yu Ning gripped the curtains tightly, desperate to block any exposure. It wasn’t
even evening yet, and the floor-to-ceiling glass left them completely visible to any high-rise nearby.
But the motorized curtains only responded to voice commands. She could only drag the lower half, leaving them half-shielded;
useless, really, unless fully closed.
Chi Nian watched her, lips twitching before finally bursting into laughter. Only then did Zhang Yu Ning realize how absurd she
looked. Why did she care if someone saw Chi Nian? That wasn’t part of her job description.
“Never mind.” She released the curtains awkwardly. “I’ll go make dinner.” Escape was her only goal now.
“The glass has a privacy layer. No one can see inside.” Chi Nian actually bothered to explain. Zhang Yu Ning ignored it, pretending
nothing happened. Who walked around dressed like that at home? Couldn’t she at least act professional during work hours?
“Right. Got it.” Zhang Yu Ning replied stiffly before bolting to the kitchen. Then she remembered she hadn’t asked what Chi Nian
wanted.
As she rummaged through the fridge, Chi Nian appeared beside her. “No carbs tonight. Prepare a lean meal; no sauces, steamed
vegetables, and medium-rare beef.”
After the instructions, Chi Nian retreated to the living room, slipping back into her usual demeanor as if nothing had changed.
Work mode or home mode, she was exactly the same.
Bodyguard, nanny, live-in roommate… All these new roles in just one day.
“Fine.”
