My Wife Is Going To Great Lengths/Putting In A Lot Of Effort To Turn Me Gay - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Stop!
“Know, phone?”
Xu Zhi looked over, picked up her silent, brightly lit phone from her backpack, and said, “Thank you.”
She had just been changing into her uniform for the bar’s front desk. As she was tying her necktie, she answered the call, holding the phone between her shoulder and ear. “Hello.”
Zhao Chuchu watched as the person who had been polite and thanked her moments ago suddenly smiled, instantly becoming gentle and compliant. She said to the person on the other end of the phone—”Mom. Mm, I finished school. Okay, don’t worry, I’ll heat it up and eat it. You also be careful on your way back tonight. Bye-bye.”
Zhao Chuchu thought, so the Ms. Zhou in the contact notes is Know’s mom…
Just as she thought this, she saw the other person hang up, and the smile on her face disappeared immediately, hidden away in her backpack just like the phone, reverting to her calm, detached, and unperturbed self.
Xu Zhi finished tying her necktie, turned and walked out of the dressing room. Seeing someone standing and blocking the exit, she lifted her eyes and looked at her. “Excuse me.”
Zhao Chuchu suddenly snapped back to reality, blushing and hastily stepping aside awkwardly. “Ah, sorry.”
Xu Zhi walked straight out of the staff changing room.
As the city lights came on, the bar’s background music was mostly lyrical, and the moving lights slowly cast a somewhat relaxed and casual mood.
In the distance, a few figures on the dance floor were leisurely swaying their bodies to the faint rhythm.
Xu Zhi was mixing a drink for a customer.
She measured out one ounce of rum, poured it into a highball glass filled with half a cup of ice, topped it up with cola to about eight-tenths full, and added a lemon wedge.
“Are you new here?” The customer sat on the high stool at the bar, watching the girl systematically perform all the steps.
Her movements weren’t seasoned, but her slender fingers and cool, detached eyes always gave a sense of inexplicable pleasing fluidity and charm.
“Two months,” Xu Zhi pushed the prepared cocktail towards her. She didn’t engage in further conversation, turning instead to clean the glasses.
The customer was met with a mild rebuff but didn’t seem to mind. She reached for the glass, watching the girl slightly bend over the sink.
White shirt, black vest, suit trousers cinching her slender waist. Her jawline was smooth and distinct from the side profile. Her hair was black, long, and straight, with some strands lightly obscuring her cool and aloof eyes.
She was a very striking girl.
She didn’t look old; the customer wondered why she was working here as a bartender and why she wasn’t at all keen on promoting drinks.
Xu Zhi washed the glasses, wiped them dry, and placed them in the sterilizing cabinet, pressing the start button.
She previously had a very stable part-time job tutoring middle school students, but later, an unpleasant incident occurred, and the employer directly fired her.
Because the timing was awkward, she couldn’t immediately find a new part-time job, so Xu Zhi first came to work temporarily at a bar near her school.
She originally only planned to transition during the gap period while looking for a suitable new job.
However, the bar owner raised her daily pay several times, so she kept delaying her departure, which stretched into two months.
Dazzling disco ball, energetic DJ.
As time passed, the bar became increasingly crowded and lively.
Around 8:30 PM, Jim, who was in charge of the VIP private rooms on the second floor, excitedly rushed downstairs and quickly and enthusiastically greeted a group of vibrant, youthful girls entering the bar.
Over a dozen girls chatted animatedly, like a flock of birds released from a cage, as they passed by.
Xu Zhi paid them no mind.
After serving this customer’s needs, she would be almost done with her shift.
8:30 PM.
Xu Zhi completed the handover.
Jim, holding it in, hurried down. When he saw her, he quickly lowered his voice and urgently said, “Know, Room 208 needs two cases of beer. Can you help me deliver them? I can’t; my stomach hurts, I have to go to the bathroom!”
Xu Zhi raised her hand and tapped her wrist, clearly indicating—I’m off work.
Jim grimaced, truly unable to hold it in due to an urgent need. “The commission for these two cases of beer is yours.”
The person who just took over from Xu Zhi laughed and said, “What’s the commission for two cases of beer? Your Know is not going to care about that. She’s helping you purely out of goodwill, okay?”
Jim: “Yes, yes, Know…”
Xu Zhi listened to the two of them going back and forth. Not wanting to delay her time getting home, she interrupted, “208?”
“Yes, yes, it’s a group of girls, very easy to talk to. It definitely won’t delay your time off. I promise.”
Xu Zhi: “Mm.”
Jim quickly thanked her and rushed towards the staff restroom.
Xu Zhi didn’t change out of her uniform and carried the two cases of beer upstairs.
She had never been upstairs before and spent some time looking for the room number.
When she found 208 and put down the beer, she was about to knock when the door opened from the inside.
A cheerful love song instrumental came out, and colorful moving lights were on in the private room. Inside were over a dozen young girls dressed up elaborately.
The girl who opened the door was not tall and slightly chubby.
Xu Zhi stepped aside to let her pass.
The girl looked at her, stunned for half a second, then looked down at the beer by her feet and asked, “Excuse me, where is the restroom?”
Xu Zhi raised her hand and pointed her in a direction; she had seen it when she was looking for the room number.
“Thank you!” The girl hastily thanked her and ran off.
Seeing this, Xu Zhi raised her hand again and knocked three times on the open door of the private room. “Hello, drink delivery.”
Someone inside replied, “Come in, just put the beer here.”
Xu Zhi carried the beer into the private room. Her gaze was slightly lowered; she wasn’t looking around, but the room was filled with various perfumes, and laughter came from all directions.
It felt very much like entering a spider’s lair.
On the coffee table in the room was a large, multi-tiered cake that hadn’t been cut yet, surrounded by gifts, balloons, candles, various snacks, and fruit.
There was no more space for the beer.
Xu Zhi looked for other places and inadvertently saw the girl sitting in the center of the sofa, the center of attention.
She had long, soft, curly hair, a birthday crown on her head, and was wearing a pearl-white puff-sleeve crop top and a long skirt.
Her attire was simple, but her bright and deep features made her smile one of rich, breathtaking beauty.
Others were playfully teasing her. She smiled and dodged, her laughter clear and delicate. Due to the large range of motion, a segment of her fair, delicate waist was revealed.
Xu Zhi glimpsed a flash of pale skin and immediately retracted her gaze, grabbing a stool to place the beer on.
After setting down the two cases of beer, Xu Zhi turned to leave.
Just then, the slightly chubby girl returned, and the two met eyes again.
Although the girl was a little overweight, her features were endearing. She stopped Xu Zhi and asked with a smiling face, “Miss, can I add you on WeChat?”
This question was not conspicuous in the lively private room.
Xu Zhi refused. “Sorry, I don’t have my phone with me.”
“That’s okay!” The girl ran into the private room, retrieved her phone from her bag, ran back in front of Xu Zhi, and shook it at her. “I’ll add you then~”
The commotion now grew louder.
Everyone stopped playing and looked towards the door of the private room.
Coincidentally, the cheerful love song ended, and a slow song with a gentle prelude came on.
Xu Zhi didn’t notice this. Not wanting to waste time, she refused again, saying, “I don’t remember my WeChat ID.”
The girl wasn’t willing to give up easily. “Then what about your phone number?”
Xu Zhi stopped making excuses. She said, “Sorry, I have to go off work now.”
After speaking, she tried to walk around the girl.
At this moment, a voice suddenly came from behind—”Stop!”
An imperative sentence.
Xu Zhi’s foot, which was about to step forward, paused. She recognized this voice; it should be the protagonist of the night, the beautiful birthday girl who was surrounded by everyone.
Qi Yaoyao quickly walked to the door of the private room with her friends.
Although Julie had been refused so many times, she didn’t feel discouraged, only a little disappointed. Now, seeing Qi Yaoyao about to step in for her, she quickly smoothed things over. “It’s okay, Yaoyao, let’s go in quickly. We’re about to sing the birthday song.”
She didn’t want any unpleasantness on this great day.
Julie said this while trying to pull Qi Yaoyao back.
However, Qi Yaoyao didn’t let Julie hold her back. Her eyes were condescending, carrying an air of arrogance and willfulness, as she walked up to the clueless bar staff member.
She noticed there was a slight height difference between them.
Qi Yaoyao slowly walked a few steps to the side.
After confirming that she didn’t need to look up at the person and wouldn’t be at a disadvantage in terms of presence, Qi Yaoyao looked her in the eye and said, “What era is this? How can someone not remember their own WeChat ID?”
Xu Zhi looked back at her, but the other person’s dark, deep, round eyes were truly too beautiful. Looking at them, it was as if her soul was about to be sucked in.
Xu Zhi didn’t look for long, quickly averted her gaze, scanned the surrounding girls, and then replied, “I really don’t remember.”
Qi Yaoyao: “Then what about your phone number?”
“I don’t remember that either.”
“Heh, you don’t remember.” Qi Yaoyao sneered. She crossed her arms over her chest, her thick long eyelashes fluttering open and shut. She looked at the tall girl in front of her with arrogant eyes, then at the uniform she was wearing, pondering internally.
The top was a shirt, vest, and tie, and the bottom was flat suit trousers. It really didn’t look like she was hiding a phone.
But what if?
A thought flashed through Qi Yaoyao’s mind, and she immediately reached out to touch Xu Zhi’s pants pocket.
Xu Zhi reacted extremely quickly, stepping back half a step to dodge, and then frowned at her. “What do you want to do?”
Qi Yaoyao was not embarrassed by the failed sneak attack. She raised an eyebrow, her expression spoiled and brazen. “I’m seeing if you really didn’t bring your phone.”
Seeing the situation escalate, Julie quickly grabbed Qi Yaoyao’s hand and advised her with a smiling face, “Yaoyao, it’s really fine. I just wanted to make friends with her.”
Then, Julie gave Xu Zhi a look, saying, “I’m sorry, you should leave quickly.”
Xu Zhi acknowledged and was about to walk around them to leave.
Qi Yaoyao, however, shouted again, “Don’t you dare go!”
Qi Yaoyao violently shook off Julie’s hand, took a few steps to block Xu Zhi, and glared at her with her beautiful, captivating eyes wide open, clearly furious. “Do you know who I am! It’s your honor that my friend wants to add you on WeChat and make friends with you! And yet you’re playing dumb and being evasive? Do you believe I can make it impossible for you to get by in Lihai City with just one word!”
The rich girl blocked the way and issued a threat.
Xu Zhi pursed her thin lips and casually put both hands in the pockets of her uniform trousers.
Seeing her adopt this “impatient” posture, Qi Yaoyao didn’t back down at all. Her eyes were bright, and her expression was even more arrogant and provocative. “Don’t believe me? You can totally try!”
Xu Zhi looked at the utterly arrogant and brazen girl in front of her, moved her lips, and suddenly said, “You want it, right? I can’t give it to her, but I can give it to you.”
Qi Yaoyao froze, then her eyes widened in disbelief!
Was this person… flirting with her?!
