Chapter 18: Has she changed to a different Omega again?
Shi Yu’s eyes lit up the moment she saw her mermaid dress. She reached out to gently stroke the rhinestones. Under the glow of the overhead spotlights, the champagne-colored gown sparkled like a piece of jewelry in a high-end display case.
“Oh my god, it’s stunning!” Shi Yu couldn’t help but gush. “I’ve never seen such a beautiful dress in my life!”
Qi Ying stood behind her with a smile. “I’m glad you like it, Miss Shi.”
Eager to put on the gorgeous gown, Shi Yu watched as Qi Ying carried it into the dressing cubicle. Qi Ying pulled the curtain shut and said, “Go ahead and change, Miss Shi. I’ll wait for you out here.”
Shi Yu glanced at her playfully. “Aren’t you going to stay and help me?”
Qi Ying looked at her calmly.
Shi Yu pointed to the mermaid dress hanging nearby. “This dress is so complicated; I definitely can’t put it on properly by myself. Stay and give me a hand.”
Qi Ying glanced at her creation, hesitated for a moment, and then nodded. “Alright.”
As Shi Yu slipped out of her own dress, the spotlights overhead made her skin look snow-white. Her long black hair cascaded over her shoulders, brushing against her rounded shoulders and fair chest. Qi Ying noticed her white lingerie and awkwardly averted her gaze.
The rustling of fabric filled the small space. Fortunately, the dressing room was spacious enough that as long as Qi Ying kept her head turned, she wouldn’t see anything she shouldn’t.
“Where should I hang the clothes I just took off?” Shi Yu asked suddenly.
Qi Ying cleared her throat and reached out. “Give them to me; I’ll hold them for you.”
Shi Yu approached with a mischievous smile and draped her dress over Qi Ying’s arm. Their skin brushed briefly, and Shi Yu laughed softly. “Thanks for the help, A-Ying.”
Qi Ying felt goosebumps rise on her arm and gave a stiff nod.
Now wearing only her white undergarments, Shi Yu showed off her excellent figure. Seeing Qi Ying not daring to look at her, she giggled and asked curiously, “When you help other female customers change, are you always this afraid to look at them?”
Left with no choice, Qi Ying shifted her gaze to Shi Yu’s face, though her peripheral vision still caught glimpses of the woman’s silhouette. The delicate white lace traced Shi Yu’s curves perfectly.
Qi Ying said steadily, “Let’s just get the dress on and see how it looks.”
Shi Yu felt a pang of disappointment seeing Qi Ying so unfazed, so she proceeded to step into the mermaid gown.
The champagne fabric was encrusted with rhinestones, particularly from the knees down and across the bodice, making her look like a shimmering mermaid surfacing from the water. Behind the narrow, sculpted waist sat an exaggerated, eye-catching bow that added a dramatic flair.
Qi Ying helped zip up the back and loosely pinned Shi Yu’s hair up. When Shi Yu saw herself in the mirror, her eyes sparkled with joy.
“It’s too beautiful!”
Shi Yu turned side to side excitedly, admiring the craftsmanship. She turned to Qi Ying and said, “I was right to choose you. This is the most satisfying dress I’ve ever worn.”
Qi Ying smiled back. “As long as you’re happy.”
Shi Yu pursed her lips and smiled. She stepped down from the pedestal, holding her skirt, and linked her arm through Qi Ying’s. Her dark eyes searched Qi Ying’s. “Last time I asked you to dinner, you said you were busy. Can you give me your evening today? I really want to thank you for this dress by treating you to a meal—just the two of us.”
Having rejected her once before, Qi Ying felt it would be rude to decline a second time.
After a moment’s hesitation, she nodded. “Dinner is fine, but you don’t need to treat me. This is part of my job. Let’s just go Dutch.”
Shi Yu’s eyes brightened. She leaned in closer, her smile widening. “Sure! As long as I get to eat with A-Ying, going Dutch is perfectly fine.”
Once they confirmed there were no major issues with the dress, Qi Ying began the final touch-ups. Since Shi Yu was looking forward to dinner, she stayed at the shop all day, sitting on the sofa playing on her phone. She even ordered takeout for Qi Ying and Xia Ruoxin at lunch, and the three of them spent the afternoon chatting.
Xia Ruoxin knew she was playing the “third wheel,” but Qi Ying wouldn’t let her leave. Finally, around four or five in the afternoon, Xia Ruoxin’s alarm went off, and she made her escape. Before leaving, she teased, “Make sure to lock up when you leave, A-Ying. Don’t forget anything! I’m off—you two should get off work early too~”
Shi Yu waved her goodbye. Suddenly, the shop was quiet, leaving only her and Qi Ying.
Qi Ying was busy at the workbench cutting fabric. Shi Yu watched her work, the rhythm of the scissors steady and sure. The large wooden table was covered in tools. Shi Yu sat on a high stool, propping her head up with one hand, silently observing.
A woman focused on her work is truly attractive.
Shi Yu’s fingers tapped her cheek rhythmically. She watched Qi Ying with a lingering smile and asked curiously, “A-Ying, what are you working on now?”
Without looking up, Qi Ying replied, “I have some extra fabric. I thought I’d make a simple, professional autumn set for the window display.”
Shi Yu smiled. “Anything you make will be beautiful. Can I be your first customer for that one, too?”
Qi Ying paused and looked up. “Miss Shi.” She hesitated, wanting to ask what exactly the girl saw in her, but she changed her mind. “Where should we go for dinner?”
“I booked a Japanese place, or we could do Western food, or even hot pot,” Shi Yu said, waving her phone. “It’s still early; we have plenty of options.”
Qi Ying didn’t care for Japanese or Western food, and hot pot in the middle of summer sounded like a chore. She thought for a moment and remembered a small shop nearby that served a fusion of styles—it only had four or five tables, but the food was incredible.
“There’s a place nearby that’s quite good,” Qi Ying suggested. “If you don’t mind, let’s eat there. It’s close, so you won’t have to move your car.”
“Of course,” Shi Yu said warmly. “As long as I’m with you, it doesn’t matter where we eat.”
…
Xing Xiaochu was staring blankly at her scratch paper, tapping it with her pen. She felt something soft and furry brush against her ankle.
She looked down to find the tiny orange kitten rubbing against her with all its might. It looked up and let out an insistent “Meow” the moment it saw her looking.
“What is it?” Xing Xiaochu leaned over and scooped the little creature onto her desk. Four white “socked” paws stepped onto her test paper as the kitten tilted its head and continued to cry.
Xing Xiaochu stroked its head and kissed its nose. “Are you hungry? Do you want some canned food?”
Kitten: “Meow meow—”
Xing Xiaochu went to the fridge. The food was too cold to serve straight away, but the kitten was wailing as if it hadn’t eaten in years. She had no choice but to scoop out half and pop it in the microwave for thirty seconds.
“Okay, okay, it’s heating up. Stop crying.” Xing Xiaochu held the tiny thing, marveling at how such a small cat could have such a loud voice. It sounded like a little tiger.
Once the food was ready, before she could even check the temperature, the kitten pounced on the dish and began devouring it.
Xing Xiaochu sighed. She had fed it half a can at noon; she was worried about it overeating. Gently stroking its back while it ate like a hungry beast, she smiled. “Slow down, it’s all yours. No one is going to take it.”
The kitten flicked its tail, clearly in bliss.
The door has been opened—
With a click, the front door opened. Qi Ying entered the house and saw Xing Xiaochu feeding the cat. Xing Xiaochu seemed surprised to see her home so early. She sat up straight and greeted her, “Sister? Why are you home so early?”
Qi Ying nodded. “The shop was quiet today. I came home after dinner.”
She had just finished eating with Shi Yu. They had strolled through the nearby shopping district afterward, but as it grew dark, Qi Ying sent her on her way. Shi Yu had looked at her longingly before finally driving off.
After tidying up her real-world space, Qi Ying had entered the game.
She looked at the kitten, which was currently face-down in its bowl. “Did you starve it all day? Why is it eating like that?”
Xing Xiaochu blinked innocently and explained that she had fed it at noon.
Qi Ying worried about the kitten’s stomach. She reached out and felt its belly; it was already as hard as a rock. She picked the kitten up with one hand, looked at the remaining gravy in the dish, then at the screaming, struggling kitten, and finally put it back down to finish licking the plate.
“No more after this,” Qi Ying warned. “It’ll burst.”
Xing Xiaochu nodded, then stood and walked over to Qi Ying. “Have you had dinner, Sister? Do you want some fruit?”
Qi Ying smiled and rubbed the girl’s head. “No thanks. I just came to check on you.”
Xing Xiaochu’s hair was a mess from the rubbing, but her mood brightened just by being near Qi Ying.
However, in that moment, Xing Xiaochu’s nose twitched. She caught a scent. It wasn’t the sweet peach from before—this time, the pheromone smelled like roses.
Xing Xiaochu’s pupils wavered as she looked at Qi Ying in disbelief.
Has she… has she changed to a different Omega again?
