Chapter 12: The Peach-Scented Omega
When Qi Ying returned home, Xing Xiaochu was wearing an apron and stir-frying vegetables.
The roar of the range hood and the sizzle of the pan meant she didn’t notice Qi Ying’s arrival. Qi Ying stood there, watching the slender, beautiful girl with her back turned. A thin string was tied around Xiaochu’s narrow waist, and the two dangling ends of the bow rested against her hips, swaying slightly with her cooking movements.
It reminded Qi Ying of not long ago, when Xiaochu had turned her back to her like this, twisting a hair tie into a little rabbit tail that flickered before her eyes, making her heart feel incredibly soft.
When Qi Ying walked closer, Xing Xiaochu finally heard the movement behind her. She turned around to see Qi Ying approaching and gave her a sweet smile. “You’re back.”
“Mm.” Qi Ying walked to her side. Seeing the chicken pieces being tossed in the wok, she asked curiously, “Chicken tonight?”
“Yes.” Xing Xiaochu tilted her head. “Do you not like it?”
Looking at the beautiful, lovely girl, Qi Ying said with a lingering smile, “I like anything you make.”
Xing Xiaochu beamed with joy.
“Go change your clothes then,” Xiaochu said, her ear tips turning a shade of pink. “Once this dish is done, we can eat.”
Qi Ying’s eyes curved into a smile, and she ruffled the girl’s hair before leaving the kitchen.
After dinner, Qi Ying insisted on doing the dishes. Xing Xiaochu, terrified that Qi Ying might not know how, followed her into the kitchen like a little shadow. Qi Ying looked down at her with amusement, only to see Xiaochu gazing back with watery, worried eyes.
It was hard to tell if she was worried about Qi Ying or the safety of the plates in her hands.
Eventually, Qi Ying pushed her out, telling her not to interfere with the dishwashing.
Xing Xiaochu stood at the kitchen entrance, hesitating. Even though there was no door, she acted as if an invisible barrier was stopping her. She hovered at the threshold until she saw Qi Ying successfully washing the dishes, then reluctantly shuffled back to the living room.
Without work to do, Xing Xiaochu felt a lack of security.
She didn’t actually know why Qi Ying was sheltering her—not only providing food and housing but even handling her school transfer. Was it simply because Qi Ying was her mother’s friend?
Xing Xiaochu was old enough to know that kindness rarely comes without a reason, so she was confused as to why Qi Ying was being so good to her.
In the past, she wouldn’t have dared to ask. Now, she felt that if she could do more housework, perhaps her anxiety would lessen.
But now Qi Ying wouldn’t even let her do the chores, which left her feeling even more uneasy.
I have to do something.
Fiddling with her shirt, she suddenly remembered the clothes Qi Ying had just taken off. She could go wash them!
With that thought, she hurried to the bathroom and found the clothes Qi Ying had worn today in the laundry basket: a charcoal-grey casual shirt and black trousers. Xing Xiaochu picked them up happily, but then she caught a sudden, sweet scent of peaches.
Startled, she looked at Qi Ying’s shirt and carefully leaned in to sniff it.
It was a sweet, honey-peach scent.
Xing Xiaochu stared blankly at the shirt. Although the peach scent was faint, she was sensitive enough to recognize it as an Omega’s pheromones. For it to linger on the fabric, that Omega must have been very, very close to Qi Ying.
Maybe a hug. Or… something even more intimate.
The realization that Qi Ying had an Omega was surprising, yet not entirely unexpected. Qi Ying was tall, beautiful, and a very gentle Alpha; it wasn’t strange for her to have an Omega.
But did that peach-scented Omega know that Qi Ying was sheltering her?
Would that Omega hate her? After all, she was just an outsider who had appeared out of nowhere.
The thought made her anxious. She stood in the bathroom, clutching the shirt and lost in a daze of worry.
…
When Qi Ying finished the dishes and emerged from the kitchen, she heard the laundry machine humming and thumping in the bathroom. She paused, looking down at her current clothes.
Her shirt was being washed. Since she was currently wearing “game clothes,” did this mean if she didn’t put her real clothes back on, she’d have to go back to the real world naked?
If she didn’t want to go back naked, she’d have to wait for the clothes to dry.
Qi Ying: “…”
Regardless, it looked like she wouldn’t be leaving this world for a while.
Fortunately, she didn’t feel hungry. She hoped the washing machine had a drying function so she could change back and head home as soon as they were done.
With nothing else to do, Qi Ying sliced some fruit and decided to take on the responsibility of a guardian: checking the child’s homework.
At the desk, Qi Ying picked up Xing Xiaochu’s test paper. Xiaochu sat beside her, trembling with nerves, her eyes darting toward Qi Ying’s face. Seeing Qi Ying’s expression grow increasingly somber, she feared she had gotten everything wrong.
She grew even more tense.
Given that P is a moving point on the circle passing through O(0,0), M(-1,3), and $M_{1}(-3,-1)$, what is the maximum value of $|PO|$?
Qi Ying: “…” Her brow furrowed deeply.
What on earth is this? I don’t understand it. Next question.
During the 20XX Spring Festival, a unit needs to arrange five people, A, B, and C, for duty. One person is on duty each day. Those on duty on the 1st and 2nd days of the New Year are only arranged for one day. Those on duty from the 3rd to the 8th are arranged for two days. If A has other matters and cannot have their two days consecutively, how many different arrangements are there?
- 792 / B. 1440 / C. 1728 / D. 1800
Qi Ying: “…” Her eyes gradually glazed over.
She couldn’t calculate it. Not at all. She didn’t even know why the answer was supposed to be B!
No wonder parents signed their kids up for tutoring. It looked like she’d have to sign Xiaochu up for a class too. She needed to check how much money was in her game account; she hoped Senior Year prep classes weren’t too expensive.
Seeing Qi Ying clutching the paper with a darkening expression, Xing Xiaochu assumed she had failed miserably. She looked at her worriedly. “Sister, are you… angry?”
Qi Ying turned her head. “Huh? Why would I be angry?”
“Because I got so many questions wrong…?” Xiaochu whispered.
Qi Ying: “…That’s not it.”
After all, she hadn’t understood anything since the first question.
Qi Ying was an easy-going person; if she didn’t understand it, she wouldn’t dwell on it. She simply put the paper back on the desk. Seeing Xiaochu’s nervous face, she laughed and habitually reached out to rub the girl’s head.
“Don’t worry,” Qi Ying said, assuming Xiaochu was afraid of failing the placement test. She comforted her gently, “It doesn’t matter if you don’t get in. At worst, I’ll just work harder to make more money for you in the future.”
