Following a tragic accident, Jin Kaiyu’s mentor and close friend, Zhao Choucheng, passes away, leaving behind a frail and sickly wife. Stricken by the news, the widow, Qu Qiushuang, is devastated. Seeing her deteriorating health and vulnerability, Jin Kaiyu resolves to take care of her.
As time passes, Qu Qiushuang’s gentleness and ethereal beauty begin to take hold. Seeing her so fragile and without anyone to lean on, Jin Kaiyu feels a forbidden obsession growing in her heart.
But it is hard for the living to compete with the dead.
Coincidentally, just as Jin Kaiyu is prepared to give up, the widow initiates an intimate closeness. They do everything couples do. On many humid, sweltering nights, Qu Qiushuang would breathlessly cradle Jin Kaiyu’s head and praise her: “Good girl, you’re doing so well.”
This happiness felt too incredible to be true, and Jin Kaiyu felt as though she were dreaming—until the day she overheard a conversation between Qu Qiushuang and a friend.
The friend asked: “Doesn’t she look exactly like Zhao Choucheng did in his youth?” Qu Qiushuang replied with a voice full of nostalgia: “Yes, she does.”
Suddenly, everything fell into place. Jin Kaiyu was hit with a sudden, mocking clarity. “I used to think people only used look-alikes as stand-ins. I never expected that even a tiny overlap in personality would be enough for you to use me as a replacement. Do you really love him that much? Huh? Mrs. Zhao?“
Qu Qiushuang never intended to find a shadow of her late husband in Jin Kaiyu, but the feeling of being loved by her was simply too intoxicating. She couldn’t stop herself from seeking the past in the present, eventually losing sight of her original intentions.
Then, those eyes once full of affection suddenly turned cold, and Jin Kaiyu told her: “You truly disgust me.”
