My System, My Wife Feng Aotian [Transmigration] - Chapter 4
Feng Jue: “……”
“You mean I have to find someone to marry just to avoid Xue Bufan?” Feng Jue found the conversation absurd.
“From a strategic standpoint, yes,” 03’s robotic voice remained calm.
“To get married and have children before the Male Lead starts his rampage. Based on my analysis of past Dragon Protagonist novels, not a single supporting character who broke off a relationship with the Dragon Protagonist managed to remarry and have children within a year.”
03 analyzed the situation and concluded that this method seemed quite efficient. It required minimal intervention, just finding the right target.
However, completing the mission so quickly would be a pity.
03 gazed at Feng Jue’s alluringly beautiful face, its silver aura flickering around her.
But after making its suggestion, the host remained silent. A question mark seemed to hover above 03’s head.
Is this suggestion also unacceptable?
Feng Jue flicked her sleeve, turned on her heel, and vanished in a streak of light.
??
Confused, 03 circled the deserted mountaintop. Just as a warning notification flashed, it darted away with a whoosh and finally spotted Feng Jue striding through the corridors of a palace.
It chased after her, trailing behind Feng Jue.
“Is there something wrong?” 03 asked humbly, seeking guidance from its host.
Feng Jue sneered.
The sky gradually darkened, and the palace lanterns lining the corridor lit up like a serpentine procession. The pearl glow illuminated Feng Jue, making the phoenix patterns on her swaying sleeves seem to come alive, their sharp eyes mirroring Feng Jue’s furious expression.
03 followed Feng Jue into the palace. This seemed to be Feng Jue’s bedroom, even more opulent than the grand hall outside, every detail exquisitely crafted and the room filled with dazzling treasures. Yet there were no attendants in sight. Feng Jue lay on the couch, propping her face up as she glared coldly at 03.
“What is it?” 03 circled, checking its reflection in a nearby vase. It was still the same 03, showing no signs of malfunction.
“Feng Jue, let me ask you something,” Feng Jue said, curling a finger.
03 drifted over and settled on Feng Jue’s fingertip.
Feng Jue paused, her eyebrow arching. She continued, holding the weightless, formless orb of light: “You claim this world is a book, and that I, Xue Bufan, and the Dragon Protagonist are characters within it. You say I must change my fate by defying the original plot. But why haven’t you told me what that original plot is? And how did I even fall in love with Xue Bufan?”
Feng Jue’s expression darkened as she finished, grinding her teeth. “How did I fall in love with Xue Bufan?”
If she knew this, there would be no need for this torment. She could simply make choices contrary to the original plot.
03’s mechanical voice explained, “It’s my fault.”
“The higher the System’s level, the more vague and incomplete the information provided at the start of a mission. After my recent upgrade, I am now the highest-level and most privileged System under the Main System, receiving even less information. But rest assured, Host. As long as you cooperate, I will gather relevant plot information during the mission, combine it with my past experience, and provide you with the best possible strategy.”
03 added, “The Host’s choices are my choices, and the Host’s mission is my mission. I will wholeheartedly assist you!”
Even after 03’s explanation, Feng Jue’s frown remained. She wouldn’t easily trust such a strange, mysterious entity.
“What’s in it for you?” Feng Jue asked.
The benefits were numerous. The arrival of a System and the alteration of a character’s fate generated immense energy, which fueled the operation of the System world. Each System earned Points for completing missions, and these Points served as both currency and the energy required for Systems to upgrade.
Level 03 missions are difficult, but the reward is the most points!
After its explanation, Feng Jue understood. If 03 claimed there were no benefits and it was only working for her, she wouldn’t believe it. But if there were benefits driving 03’s actions, its claims would be more credible.
“I see,” Feng Jue nodded, her interest piqued. “Then who is the Main System?”
Patiently answering her question, 03 recognized that this reversal of roles could deepen mutual trust.
“The Main System is the most revered system among all systems. It established the rules, and all systems operate under these rules. It is a truly outstanding, perfect, and powerful system!” Golden thumbs-up bubbles appeared above 03’s head.
Feng Jue: “……”
After a pause, she continued, “It seems you hold it in high regard. Good. I appreciate loyal individuals.”
Feng Jue finished speaking slowly, smiling at 03.
The thumbs-up inside the bubble immediately changed to a smiling face.
Feng Jue’s smile vanished, and her tone turned sharp. “Then do you like the Main System? Do you love it?”
The expression above 03’s head vanished instantly.
“03 why would I love the Main System?” it asked, startled.
“Why wouldn’t you? Isn’t the System you speak of supremely powerful and perfect in your mind?” Feng Jue replied.
“All Systems respect the Main System, but not in the way humans speak of love or liking. We don’t possess such emotions,” 03 said. After a pause, something seemed to flicker in its data stream before vanishing, leaving no trace.
“Systems are composed of data,” 03 continued. “We can understand human emotions, but we can’t experience them. The Host can think of Systems and humans as numbers and words. Words can express joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure, but numbers will always just be numbers.”
Since this world had no concept of numbers, 03 specifically displayed the ten digits in sequence above its head for Feng Jue to see.
“0, 3, 03—this is my code name, equivalent to what you call a ‘name,'” 03 said.
“I see,” Feng Jue said slowly, her eyes shining with interest. She repeated the numbers after 03, learning them effortlessly in a single try. Rising, she cradled 03 in her arms and carried her to the study, where she ground ink and prepared a brush.
“Courtesy demands reciprocity, and one should adapt to local customs,” Feng Jue said. “Since you’ve taught me the numbers of your world, why don’t I give you a name in the script of this world?” She asked. Naming was typically reserved for family, mentors, or masters and servants. Her request was a test of 03’s reaction.
“Very well, Host. Do as you please,” 03 replied without hesitation.
Feng Jue paused, surprised by the immediate agreement. Her expression turned serious. After a moment’s thought, she dipped her brush and wrote:
“All things possess a spirit. With your keen intelligence, the character ‘spirit’ is fitting. As for ‘3’…” She hesitated, pondering. “When the misty gauze rustles with each slow step, and the sound of jade pendants echoes across the hall. Let’s discard ‘3’ and take ‘Shan’ instead. Your name shall be Ling Shan.”
It was said that a person’s handwriting reflected their character. The two characters dancing across the rice paper carried an unexpected sharpness and vigor, a stark contrast to the glowing orb they represented.
03 pulled up the Mission World’s file, inserted its image into the photo, and scanned Feng Jue’s handwritten name into the name field.
Ling Shan.
03 looked at the name in the file, a thought bubble floating and then disappearing above its head.
“Ling Shan, 03… Though ‘Shan’ and ‘3’ sound slightly different, the character ‘Shan’ in ‘coral’ implies something precious, which suits a woman—” Feng Jue suddenly paused, hesitating. “Come to think of it, are you even a woman?”
03’s mechanical voice sounded somewhat “complex,” making it impossible to discern its gender.
The silver System floating above the paper stated earnestly, “I’ll be one from now on.”
Feng Jue raised an eyebrow. Though still suspicious of 03, she was satisfied with its obedient attitude. Regardless of its motives, its willingness to comply and show understanding was deeply gratifying. Besides, she now felt a sense of ownership having named it.
“Then I’ll call you Ling Shan from now on,” Feng Jue said. “You weren’t a woman before?”
03 replied honestly, “I don’t have a gender, just like words. Humans don’t assign genders to words.”
Feng Jue: “……”
Her eyes flickered as she set down the brush and cradled 03 in her palm, carrying it back to the daybed. “Now that you have a human name and gender,” she said casually, “you can also experience human emotions. Why not try falling for the Main System?”
The conversation circled back to their earlier topic.
03, shocked and bewildered, asked, “Why are you so determined to make me fall for the Main System?”
Feng Jue smirked coldly. “Is that not possible?”
“Isn’t your goal to make me fall in love quickly, marry, and have children?”
03 spun in Feng Jue’s palm before coming to a stop. “Is making me fall for the Main System equivalent to making you fall for someone else?”
Systems lack emotions, Feng Jue thought, but humans are naturally endowed with rich feelings. And human dictionaries even contain concepts like love at first sight.
Feng Jue looked at 03, deliberately adopting a confrontational tone. “I clearly don’t feel anything for strangers. Why are you forcing me to marry and have children with someone I don’t even know? What are you trying to achieve? Do you think I’m some kind of loose woman?”
03 had no heart.
At least, not in the physical sense.
The heartless System hovered above Feng Jue’s palm, realizing the Host had meant something different. The subtleties of human language are truly profound, it thought. A System must constantly learn.
Feng Jue looked slightly smug, her naturally upturned eyes curving even more sharply.
A lampstand shaped like a phoenix stood beside the couch. Embedded with gemstones, agates, jade, and chrysoberyls, the phoenix held a luminous pearl in its beak. Its radiant glow illuminated the phoenix’s iridescent body and cast a shimmering light upon the figure reclining on the couch, making her eyes sparkle even brighter than the jewels, radiant and luminous.
Amidst the dazzling display, it was hard to tell who was more captivating.
Feng Jue stared at 03 with an enigmatic smile, seemingly enjoying the System’s speechless state, though no mouth was visible in the glowing orb.
“How about it?” she pressed. “Do you finally see your mistake?”
A non-physical warning flashed in 03’s consciousness. To a System, being accused of an error was akin to the sky collapsing in the human world! Its silver light flickered as Feng Jue watched in surprise. Calmly, 03 stated, “The Host said she wouldn’t marry or have children with strangers.”
Feng Jue nodded.
03 summoned its interface and swiftly pulled up an image.
The scene depicted Feng Jue and Siyi seated in the Gazing Mountain Pavilion. Feng Jue wore an expression of disgust, while a thought bubble beside her read: “After only two meetings with Xue Bufan, what kind of feelings could we possibly have?”
Feng Jue: “……”
Suddenly, it all came back to her. She had indeed said that, never imagining 03 would actually remember it.
03 held up the message and spoke in a slow, monotonous, mechanical voice: “The Host and Xue Bufan have only met twice, have no emotional connection, yet they are still engaged. If Xue Bufan’s Spiritual Root hadn’t been crippled, would the Host and he have married smoothly?”
The words “no emotional connection” were deliberately emphasized by the System, sounding particularly grating to Feng Jue’s ears.
Feng Jue: “…………”
She suddenly sat up, refusing to admit defeat. “This is my elder’s command, not my own will!”
03 understood.
It humbly sought guidance.
“Host, which of your elders is still alive? Why not invite them out again? After all, you’ve already failed once—this time, you’re sure to succeed!” 03 said, its colorful lights flashing brightly. The System chimed in encouragingly, “I’m cheering for you, Host!”
Though the lights were vibrant and colorful, they only served to make Feng Jue’s expression even darker. The Host, whom 03 had only known for a short time, raised a hand and hurled it out the window.
“Get the hell out of here!”
