My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
As Yan Yuchen spoke, she didn’t forget to shoot a venomous glare at Yu Zining. Zining kept his head buried low; he was utterly bewildered by the entire situation.
Lu Yeyan offered no explanation. He simply glanced at the bodyguards beside him and said coldly, “Escort Miss Yan out!”
Yan Yuchen froze. “Brother Lu…”
The sound followed of bodyguards physically hauling her away.
“Brother Lu, you can’t do this to me!”
Yu Zining cautiously stole a glance at Lu Yeyan. His face remained unchanged, impassive, as if this farce had absolutely nothing to do with him.
Yan Yuchen was “invited” back into her car, where she slammed her fist violently against the back of the driver’s seat. She gnashed her teeth in fury. “You little fox… I will make you pay back today’s humiliation tenfold!”
After the scene, the press conference regained its composure. Everything seemed to return to its proper track, ending normally after a few more questions from reporters.
Yu Zining returned to the villa alone. Lu Yeyan merely spared him a glance before getting into his own car and heading back to the office.
…
YIY Group Headquarters
Lu Yeyan watched the footage of the press conference on the projector, a faint, inscrutable smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
Shen Ziqi walked in holding several documents. “How is it?”
Lu Yeyan didn’t look at her; he just looked down, fiddling with a teacup on his desk.
Shen Ziqi bowed her head slightly and reported, “It was the Ou Group that tipped off Miss Yan. They likely wanted to make you look like a fool at the conference. Rest assured, per your instructions, the PR department resolved the public opinion issues immediately.”
Lu Yeyan’s slender fingers tapped lightly against the teacup, his eyes suddenly darkening. “They lost their patience after all!” He took a light sip of the tea.
Shen Ziqi handed him the files. “The conference went exactly as you predicted. The new gown worn by ‘Madam’ has gained widespread attention. Many companies are already requesting meetings. This time, the Ou Group’s scheme backfired.”
Lu Yeyan said nothing, but a trace of inexplicable joy appeared on his face upon hearing the word “Madam.”
…
The Deserted Home
Back at the villa, Yu Zining was restless. He was worried about his family, especially his grandmother’s safety. He had to go back and see them.
“Madam, where are you going?”
Before he could reach the living room, he was stopped by the butler, Gu Yuan.
Yu Zining gestured: I want to go home and check on things.
Gu Yuan frowned, looking troubled. “Madam, the Master instructed that you must remain in the villa.”
Zining’s brow tightened. He hurriedly signed: I’m just going back to pick up some things. I’ll be right back.
Gu Yuan sighed. “Fine, let me ask the Master.”
Gu Yuan made a quick call to Lu Yeyan. After hanging up, he walked back to Zining. “Madam, I will arrange a driver and bodyguards to escort you.”
Yu Zining waved his hands frantically in refusal. He came from a humble background; if he showed up with a small army, he would terrify his family and the entire neighborhood.
“This is the Master’s order!”
Yu Zining sighed and eventually nodded.
The car drove for a long time, eventually turning into a street bustling with the atmosphere of daily life. Yu Zining patted the back of the driver’s seat, and the car stopped.
Afraid his gestures wouldn’t be clear, he typed on his phone for the driver to see: Just stop here. I’ll walk in by myself.
The driver frowned, but seeing the carload of bodyguards following behind, he let Zining out. As soon as Zining stepped out, the bodyguards followed suit.
Feeling annoyed, Zining typed a message and showed it to them: Stop following me. I grew up here; there won’t be any trouble.
The bodyguards hesitated. “But…”
Yu Zining’s eyes darted around. He typed: If you make me unhappy, I’ll tell Lu Yeyan when I get back, and you’ll all be in deep trouble.
The bodyguards were startled. Since he was Lu Yeyan’s new “wife,” offending him was a risk they couldn’t take. Zining’s act worked; they stayed back, keeping watch only at the street corner.
Zining reached his apartment building—an old, dilapidated residential block. He ran up to the fifth floor, arriving breathless. He pulled out his key and opened the door.
The house was eerily silent. A wave of panic washed over him as he rushed into his grandmother’s room, only to find it empty. He searched every room. No one was there. Aside from the heavy furniture, all clothing and personal items were gone.
He let out a cold, hollow laugh and slumped to the floor. Yu Zining, you are so stupid. Yu Yuemin must have fled to escape his debts long ago.
What was he to them? Perhaps they had never truly considered him a child of this family.
Just then, a frantic knocking came from the door. Zining’s heart hammered—were debt collectors coming for him? He crept to the door and looked through the peephole. He saw a young man standing outside, looking panicked.
Confused, Zining opened the door.
The man lunged inside, slammed the door shut, and pinned Zining against the wall. They were inches apart. Zining looked up at him; the man had steady brown eyes, though his breath was ragged against Zining’s face.
As Zining tried to push him away, the man placed a slender finger against Zining’s lips. “Shh,” he whispered.
A group of people could be heard shouting outside. “Where is he?” “How did he vanish right here?” “Damn it, don’t let me catch you!”
After a long while, the hallway fell silent. Only then did the man slowly release Zining, letting out a sigh of relief. He looked down at Zining, studying him intently.
Feeling uncomfortable, Zining signed: Who are you?
The man snapped out of it and smiled. “Sorry about that. My family is in debt and can’t pay, so these collectors won’t leave me alone. I had no choice but to hide here for a moment. I’m He Yilun.”
Zining studied him. The man was tall, and despite his disheveled state, he carried an air of elegance. However, the way his eyes lingered on Zining made Zining uneasy. Zining opened the door and made a “please leave” gesture.
The man pouted. “Come on, be a good samaritan. They’re definitely still out there. Let me stay for a bit? After all, I’m not the one who borrowed the money, yet I’m the one suffering the consequences.”
