My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 14
Chapter 14
The other side was silent for a moment before speaking: “Hello, that works. We were wondering, would you be able to come to the office at a later date?”
Yu Zining’s brow furrowed. “I can…” he replied.
“Great,” the voice continued. “Please add Zhang Jie, our head of lyrics and composition, on WeChat.”
After a few quick taps, Yu Zining added Zhang Jie from R Company.
…
WeChat Chat Log
Zhang Jie: Hello! Handshake emoji x2
Lemon Who Loves Fish: Hello, I’m Lemon Who Loves Fish.
Zhang Jie: Would you mind sharing your real name?
Lemon Who Loves Fish: Sorry, it’s not very convenient for me right now. Can I use this stage name? All my future works will be under this name.
Zhang Jie: That’s fine. However, we do need some basic information for our records. You can send it to me; the company will keep it strictly confidential.
Yu Zining thought about it and eventually sent over his details. When Zhang Jie saw the name, she paused for a second. But seeing the gender marked as Male, she didn’t think much of it—it was probably just a coincidence that he shared the same name as that Yu Zining. This one was a man, after all.
Once the handoff was complete, Zhang Jie added Yu Zining to a group chat.
Group Chat: Song Creation Group: Lemon is Fish’s Love
Zhang Jie: Everyone, this is our songwriter, Lemon Who Loves Fish. Staff A: Welcome, welcome! Photography Team: Welcome! Liu Momo R Company Gold Manager: Hello, Songwriter. I’ve sent you a contact request, please accept it!
Liu Momo? Yu Zining looked at the request list. Why did that name look so familiar? He didn’t dwell on it and hit accept.
Liu Momo: Hello, I’m Li Yiyang’s manager, Liu Momo. The company has assigned Yiyang to perform this song. If it does well, it will be used in his new TV drama. Do you have any issues with that?
Li Yiyang? Wasn’t that the star who attended the wedding? He had seen Yu Zining before. The thought made Yu Zining break into a nervous sweat.
At that moment, another friend request popped up. The note read: Li Yiyang. There was no way around it now. Anyway, he thought, I’m not showing my face for the time being. He accepted.
Li Yiyang: Animated emoji] Hello… Lemon Who Loves Fish: Hello. Li Yiyang: Lemon-laoshi, I’ll come directly to you with questions about the lyrics and music. This song is very important to me. I’m counting on you! Animated “pathetic” emoji Lemon Who Loves Fish: Okay.
Holding his phone, Li Yiyang stared at the single-word reply: “Okay.” He raised an eyebrow.
“Got character. I like it,” he murmured. He immediately began peppering him with messages.
Li Yiyang: Lemon-laoshi, I heard you aren’t in H City. When are you coming back? Let me buy you dinner? Li Yiyang: Lemon-laoshi, I’m touring in G City this weekend. Want tickets? Li Yiyang: Lemon-laoshi, are you a guy or a girl? Your profile says female… are you a ‘Missy’?
The barrage of messages made Yu Zining’s head spin. Is this Li Yiyang a chatterbox? Aren’t celebrities supposed to be busy? He felt like he was dealing with an idle loiterer. Seeing the last message, he realized he hadn’t updated his profile since his time working undercover as a woman. He quickly went into his settings.
Li Yiyang opened Yu Zining’s “Moments” feed, only to find it cleaner than a blank sheet of paper. When he backed out to the profile, he saw the gender icon had changed to a blue male symbol.
Li Yiyang smirked. “Interesting. A very interesting ‘Missy’ indeed.”
Liu Momo walked in. “Yiyang, let’s go. We have a director to meet.”
Li Yiyang nodded, then asked, “Hey, Momo-jie, what’s the deal with this Lemon-laoshi?”
Liu Momo paused. “Lemon-laoshi? Oh, the songwriter. I don’t know much. I heard the company scouted them from outside. Everything is under wraps—we don’t even know if they’re male or female.”
Li Yiyang’s lips curled. “I bet it’s a girl. A very pretty one.”
Liu Momo raised an eyebrow. “Why do you think that?”
“It’s a secret!” Li Yiyang gave a mischievous grin, grabbed his jacket, and headed out.
…
Yu Zining sat at his desk. He used to write his songs on his own laptop, but when Yu Yuemin fled, he had taken everything of value in the house with him. In this villa, the only computer was the work laptop in Lu Yeyan’s study.
Yu Zining frowned and walked to the study door. It was protected by a keypad. He tried a few codes… Lu Yeyan’s birthday? Wrong. The founding date of YIY? Wrong. Could it be my birthday? He typed it in… What am I thinking? Of course not.
“Madam! What are you doing?”
Gu Yuan’s voice boomed right beside him, nearly making Yu Zining jump out of his skin. He turned around, forcing a smile. “No… nothing.”
Since Lu Yeyan knew he could speak, he had been granted special permission to talk within the villa, provided the staff kept it a secret. This allowed him a temporary reprieve from playing the mute.
Gu Yuan glanced at the lit-up keypad and lowered his eyes. “Madam, this is not a place for you to linger.”
Relieved to be let off, Yu Zining hurried away. How am I going to revise the lyrics without a laptop?
Gu Yuan watched him leave, then turned to call Lu Yeyan.
At the office, Lu Yeyan was reviewing new contracts. When he saw it was the butler calling, his heart skipped a beat, fearing something had happened to Yu Zining.
“Speak…”
“Madam was just loitering outside your study, trying to get in. He didn’t know the password, so I asked him to return to his room.”
“Understood.”
Lu Yeyan hung up. The pen in his hand stopped mid-sentence. Why was Yu Zining trying to get into my study?
He kept sensitive documents there. Could it be? Does he trust He Yilun so much that he’s willing to betray me for him?
At that thought, Lu Yeyan’s hand tightened. The pen snapped, and a jagged piece of plastic sliced into his palm. Shen Ziqi walked in with files just in time to see this.
“President?”
Lu Yeyan waved her off, his expression vanishing into a cold mask as if the anger of a moment ago had never existed. He couldn’t sit still any longer. After glancing at only a few more files, he stood up and left the company.
Yu Zining was still sitting in his room, fretting over his work, when he heard the maids’ voices from downstairs.
“Young Master!”
Lu Yeyan was back!
