My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Yu Zining spoke softly, “Thank you, but I’ve made up my mind. I’m staying by Lu Yeyan’s side.”
Yu Zining didn’t quite know why those words came out of his mouth. Hadn’t he been desperate to escape this entire time?
Yet, at that moment, memories of Lu Yeyan flashed through his mind. Aside from his unpredictable temper, the man had treated him well—moreover, Lu Yeyan had saved his life. If Yu Zining were to run away with He Yilun now, Lu Yeyan would become the laughingstock of the city. He couldn’t do that to him.
A flicker of surprise crossed He Yilun’s eyes, but he regained his composure quickly. He suddenly pulled Yu Zining into a tight embrace. As Yu Zining struggled to break free, He Yilun frowned slightly and whispered, “Since that’s your choice, I’ll be going. But if you ever change your mind, I’ll be waiting for you.”
As the words left his lips, He Yilun leaned in and bit Yu Zining’s neck hard.
A sharp pain shot through Yu Zining’s neck. He shoved He Yilun away, staring at him in horror. He Yilun wiped the corner of his mouth with a slender finger and gave a seductive, almost demonic smile. “That’s your punishment for rejecting me.”
With that, He Yilun turned and left. At the moment the door clicked shut, Yu Zining failed to notice the inscrutable smirk playing on He Yilun’s lips.
..
By the time Yu Zining returned to the venue, Lu Yeyan had been waiting for a long time. Because of the mark He Yilun had left, Yu Zining had to find a silk scarf to wrap around his neck, which caused the delay.
Lu Yeyan watched Yu Zining approach from a distance, his gaze deep and unreadable. As Yu Zining stood beside him, he felt an oppressive chill settle over them, sending a shiver down his spine.
This grand, prestigious wedding finally came to an end. Once it was over, Lu Yeyan vanished. Yu Zining was sent back to the villa by Shen Ziqi, who then hurried off as well.
As twilight began to fade, Yu Zining felt restless. He headed down to the garden to catch some fresh air. Before he even reached the garden beds, he heard several maids gossiping nearby.
“What do you think the Young Master is planning? It’s so strange. Clearly the Madam is a… so why insist on the marriage?”
Yu Zining froze and hid behind a hedge. This was the very question he had been struggling with himself.
“You don’t know the half of it,” one maid whispered. “I was serving in the study and overheard him talking to Secretary Shen. Apparently, the new clothing line is selling like crazy because of the new ‘Madam’s’ debut.”
Another maid added, “That sounds right. That press conference wasn’t really about the wedding; it was to showcase the new dress design the Madam was wearing. With all the hype, the sales went through the roof.”
“Wow, really? I guess we’ll never understand the world of the rich. The things they do for business!”
“What are you saying!?”
A man’s voice boomed from behind them, terrifying the maids and startling Yu Zining in his hiding spot. It was the butler, Gu Yuan.
“Who gave you permission to gossip? Do you all want to lose your jobs?”
The maids bowed their heads, trembling. “Butler Gu, we… we were just talking nonsense. Please don’t fire us!”
Gu Yuan’s brow furrowed. “This house has no place for busybodies. You knew that the day you arrived. Since you’ve broken the rules knowingly, pack your things and leave. You’ll get this month’s salary, but you’re done here.”
As Gu Yuan walked away, the maids stood there in shock.
Meanwhile, Yu Zining had already slipped back to his room. His mind was racing with what he’d heard. So that’s the reason? I’m just a pawn to advance his business?
He pulled out his phone to check the news reports of the wedding. Sure enough, most of the headlines focused on the exquisite bridal wear and the brand. A stinging pain, like a needle to the heart, flared in his chest. Though he knew the marriage wasn’t “pure,” the confirmation left him feeling inexplicably hollow. Was he actually hoping for something more? He didn’t even know.
SLAM—
The sound of the door being kicked open startled him. Lu Yeyan entered, looking livid. He slammed the door shut and fixed Yu Zining with a cold, dark stare. The heavy, suffocating atmosphere returned instantly.
Before Yu Zining could react, Lu Yeyan pinned him onto the bed. He clamped down on Yu Zining’s wrists, rendering him motionless. Yu Zining stared up at him in terror, but Lu Yeyan’s eyes were devoid of emotion—just an endless, icy void.
Lu Yeyan violently ripped away the silk scarf. When he saw the red mark on Yu Zining’s neck, his pupils contracted with a surge of murderous rage.
Yu Zining began to writhe, unable to understand why Lu Yeyan was acting like a madman.
“Get off me!” Yu Zining suddenly shouted.
Lu Yeyan froze in shock. Yu Zining took the opportunity to shove him away, clutching the bedsheets around his torn clothing to cover himself.
Lu Yeyan stared at him intensely. “You can talk? How many more secrets are you keeping from me? Or are these secrets only for He Yilun to know, and not me?”
Fire burned in Lu Yeyan’s eyes. Without a word, he lunged again, dragging Yu Zining out from the covers and pinning him back down with crushing force. Yu Zining felt the grip on his wrists tighten until a chill seemed to seep into his very bones.
Realizing he couldn’t afford to provoke him further, Yu Zining spoke slowly, his voice trembling: “I… I was just afraid I’d give myself away the moment I spoke. If you want me to talk, I will.”
