Archaeology prodigy Dr. Si Wan is the rising star of the field: cold, rational, and absolutely unwilling to believe in ghosts.
Not because she’s logical.
Because she’s terrified of them.
During the excavation of a grand ancient tomb, she accidentally disturbs the vengeful spirit buried within… Princess Sheng Zhen, a cunning, unhinged beauty wrapped in royal silks and centuries-old resentment.
On a moonless, windy night, perfect for murder, the ghost crawls onto Si Wan’s bed.
Her laughter rings like silver bells, soft yet chilling, her fingers like ice tracing the woman’s shoulder.
“You didn’t finish digging me out,” she whispers against Si Wan’s ear, lips red as blood. “So, I came to find you.”
Unfortunately for her, the usually aloof Professor Si is a menace when half-asleep.
She slaps the ghost across the face.
Ghost: …Do I not deserve basic dignity?
Failing to scare her target, Sheng Zhen simply lies beside her, memories stirring.
Ah Wan is still so willful…
The next morning, Si Wan wakes to someone else in her bed and reflexively kicks.
Her foot goes through thin air.
“Good morning,” the ghost greets cheerfully.
Si Wan: …
Si Wan: !!!
Trying to calm her nerves, Si Wan pretends she cannot see the ghost, her face expressionless.
But this only makes Sheng Zhen more delighted, floating inches from her face.
The next day, Si Wan buys incense to chase the ghost away.
Of course, three sticks of incense aren’t enough to handle a thousand-year-old spirit.
Colleagues whisper that Professor Si has been acting strange.
Some even see her approach a street-side Taoist stall, one she always mocked as a scam.
“How much to exorcise her?” Si Wan asks coldly, pointing at the ghost beside her.
The ghost wipes her eyes dramatically.
“Ah Wan is pretending she doesn’t know me… My heart breaks.”
The Taoist, eyes shining, strokes his goatee. “Lady, this is a top-tier spirit! I’ll pay you to take her!”
And suddenly, Si Wan is displeased “I’m not selling her.”
Sheng Zhen hides behind Si Wan, sticking out her tongue at the Taoist “Stupid priest.”
Eventually, under Si Wan’s persistence, a tomb-within-a-tomb is discovered, along with a stone stele documenting the ghost’s life… and beside it, another stele, Si Wan’s.
Something inside her begins to shift.
