My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 5
Steadying herself, He Yu took another look at the ring in Gu Jin’s hand. If she could understand the principle behind how the aircraft could accelerate so quickly in such a short time and then apply it to heavy mechs, their speed might reach a whole new level.
Unfortunately, aircraft manufacturing and mech production weren’t handled by the same institution; the two had no intersection, and their respective core technologies would never be shared. To find out, one would have to submit an application to the Imperial Cabinet, wait for negotiations, and then hope the aircraft R&D department would agree to send a technician over.
With one last regretful glance at the ring, knowing it was currently impossible, He Yu stopped thinking about it and headed into the Royal Restaurant.
Though called the “Royal Restaurant” because it was under the Imperial family’s name, one rarely saw actual royalty there. It was mainly frequented by nobles and celebrities who valued its prestige and security and, of course, those who came specifically to see the new boss, the Empress of the Vizer Empire.
Ignored by He Yu once again, Gu Jin noticed the surrounding patrons stealing glances at them and followed He Yu’s lead. She knew that given He Yu’s pride, no matter how curious she was about the new aircraft, she would never ask Gu Jin about it.
At the front desk, an AI led them to a private booth upstairs. Gu Jin kept her hands in her pockets, watching He Yu’s back. Thinking of Tao Ran waiting upstairs, she bit her lip nervously; video calls were one thing, but this sudden face-to-face meeting made her a little tense.
It was only then that Gu Jin realized she had completely forgotten to prepare a gift for Tao Ran!
Between her duties and bickering with He Yu, she had forgotten such an important matter. Her footsteps faltered as she checked the time, unsure if it was too late to prepare something now.
Having not heard footsteps behind her for a while, He Yu turned back to see Gu Jin frowning at her watch.
Since Gu Jin was technically her monitor, He Yu stopped. “What are you doing now?”
Gu Jin looked up. “I forgot to get a gift for Little Ranran. I don’t know if there’s still time.”
“Oh, what a coincidence,” He Yu nodded.
Gu Jin’s eyes lit up. “You forgot too?”
“I prepared one.”
Gu Jin: “…”
I’ve never met such a dislikable person. Gu Jin rolled her eyes. “What? Did you prepare that ‘Interstellar Exam Prep’ set again? She graduated from the Academy years ago.”
He Yu merely gave a cool glance at Gu Jin who still remembered a grudge from so many years ago and continued walking. Gu Jin looked at the time, then at He Yu who was leaving her line of sight, and finally gave up on the gift to follow her.
With He Yu in the lead and Gu Jin behind, they reached the door of the booth. He Yu knocked and walked in first.
The moment she entered, He Yu stopped abruptly. Gu Jin, still distracted by the gift issue, wasn’t paying attention and walked straight into He Yu’s back. Given their height difference, it looked as though she was wrapping He Yu in a hug.
Her brain short-circuited. Gu Jin stared blankly at the woman in her arms, blinking as she failed to process the situation.
He Yu glanced back at Gu Jin, her fingers twitching. For Tao Ran’s sake, she didn’t say anything, but her face remained cold as she continued forward.
Gu Jin stood there rubbing her nose. A faint scent from He Yu’s body lingered on her strange, why hadn’t she noticed it before?
Before she could think more, Gu Jin looked up at the other… three people in the booth?
Tao Ran was greeting He Yu, but who were the two people beside her?
Gu Jin walked over. After He Yu finished greeting Tao Ran, she turned away without speaking further.
“Little Ranran, didn’t you say it would just be the three of us? Where did these two come from?” Skipping the sentimental pleasantries, Gu Jin eyed the man and the child with clear suspicion and a lack of friendliness.
He Yu remained expressionless, but her gaze shifted over, clearly waiting for Tao Ran’s answer.
Tao Ran took a step back and introduced them with a smile.
“Haha, I’ll take this chance to introduce you. This is my husband, Xiao Yuqi. And this is my son, Xiao Xiaoyu—his nickname is ‘Little Fish.’ He’s three. Come on, Little Fish, meet your two aunties.”
“Wait,” Gu Jin raised a hand, looking at the clearly more mature Tao Ran. “Husband? Son? You’re married?”
Tao Ran nodded timidly. “Um, I actually got married right after graduation six years ago. I wanted to notify you, but I couldn’t reach either of you. Since you’re back now, I assumed you knew, so I didn’t tell you beforehand…”
Gu Jin glanced at He Yu, who remained stoic. She then turned back to the Alpha husband who was smiling at them sheepishly. “Do you look familiar to me…?”
“Wow, Sister Gu Jin still remembers me? I was the ‘Eternal Third Place’ back then—the one you and Sister He Yu used to take turns beating up in combat class. I was also the second-to-last in the knowledge exams at Clini High. You punched me quite a bit for that, too.”
Looking at the excited Xiao Yuqi, Gu Jin felt even more speechless. Is being a punching bag something to be proud of?
She pulled her hand back and gave a strained smile. “I guess I went too easy on you back then.”
Xiao Yuqi laughed awkwardly. He was terrified, but for the sake of love, he had to brave it.
Watching the family, who all seemed a bit “dim-witted” in their own way, He Yu felt a strange sense of harmony. She reached out to pat the child’s head. “This child… green hair. That’s unique.”
Rescued from Gu Jin’s oppressive aura by He Yu’s voice, Tao Ran nodded vigorously and took the opportunity to hide near He Yu. “I thought it was strange too! But Yuqi says his ancestors had green hair genes. Must be a recessive trait!”
“His eyes are green, too. I remember that’s very rare. We were classmates for years, but I never knew which family you were from?” Gu Jin looked down at the child. Between the red-haired Xiao Yuqi and the blonde Tao Ran, no amount of color mixing should have produced green.
“The Xiao family from Planet Philly,” Tao Ran answered for him. “They manage a production base for mech parts. They mostly produce auxiliary components—still a long way from finished mechs.” Tao Ran laughed. “I thought there was a mix-up at the hospital at first, but the genetic test proved he’s ours. His great-grandfather really did have green hair.”
“Yeah, with gene cultivation being so common now, mix-ups do happen,” Xiao Yuqi added, taking Tao Ran’s hand. “But this way, Ranran didn’t have to suffer through pregnancy. It’s worth it.”
Tao Ran leaned into him with a shy smile. The three of them looked the picture of domestic bliss.
Gu Jin & He Yu: “…”
For the first time in her life, Gu Jin found a meal utterly tasteless. After a few half-hearted bites, she dragged He Yu out and left.
Back on the aircraft, both women let out a long sigh. Neither had expected that after all their years of rivalry, a “random extra” would swoop in and take the prize!
“By the way, why didn’t you get the news back then? If you had, today wouldn’t have been such a mess,” Gu Jin started nitpicking, looking for a fight with the seemingly indifferent He Yu.
“My research and design work required total isolation. I had zero contact with the outside world. How was I supposed to know?” He Yu’s pent-up frustration finally boiled over. She glared back at Gu Jin and snorted. “And you? Why didn’t you get the message?”
“From the moment I landed on Planet Rota, I was in military training, followed by combat exercises and real warfare. I could only use my military computer. How could I receive messages on a civilian one?” After the battle, she had been in a coma. Since waking up to a mountain of chaos, she hadn’t bothered to check old logs—she’d just deleted them all.
“Then if you didn’t receive it either, what right do you have to blame me?” He Yu was no longer ignoring her; she was on the offensive. “Gu Jin! Do you think the whole world revolves around you? Do you think you’re so great? Do you think people are obligated to yield to you, coax you, and put you on a pedestal? What makes you so special?”
Gu Jin: “???”
Stunned by the outburst, Gu Jin hadn’t expected the usually reserved He Yu to snap like this over one sentence. Moreover, what did this have to do with the topic at hand?
He Yu wasn’t finished. She hit the autopilot button and grabbed Gu Jin by the collar. “Since we were kids, you’ve been inferior to me in everything except fighting! But why do you always get the upper hand? Everything I like, you have to snatch away. Think about it, how many things have you taken from me?”
“And clearly, I am smarter and more talented than you. Why am I not an Alpha? Why was I born an Omega, a synonym for ‘weak,’ fit only for breeding while you get to be an Alpha, the darling of every elite field?!”
Being shaken by her collar, Gu Jin watched He Yu’s spiraling emotions. She didn’t dare fight back; she just adjusted the seats to prevent an accident. To be honest, if she hadn’t heard it herself, she never would have imagined the “blessed child” He Yu felt this way.
“Do you have any idea? The day of the secondary gender differentiation test, after I saw the results, I wanted to die! Since then, I’ve pushed myself to the limit just to crush you, to prove I’m the best. But except for the academic fields you aren’t even interested in, no matter how hard I work, I can’t catch up!”
“I don’t even have the qualification to pilot a mech, yet you received over a dozen new models as ‘differentiation gifts.’ Do you know how much I wanted to strangle you when you bragged about them in front of me?”
Gu Jin coughed twice as He Yu’s grip tightened on her hands. I know now…
“And did you know? Omegas aren’t allowed to join the military. After graduation, my only choices were to wait for marriage or take some ‘flower vase’ job. If my grandfather hadn’t fought for me, I wouldn’t have even touched mech design! Meanwhile, you left Clini and went straight to Planet Rota, becoming the youngest Marshal, the famous ‘Young Marshal’ of the Vizer Empire! How glorious! How unfair!”
Assaulted by this string of accusations, Gu Jin’s nose twitched. Seeing He Yu’s flushed face and glazed eyes, she realized something was terribly wrong!
Gu Jin grabbed He Yu’s arms, barely escaping her “clutches.” “He Yu, calm down. Tell me first—where is your suppressant?”
“Oh right, the suppressant…” It was clear He Yu had lost all reason, her brain and glands fueled by the alcohol. “Why do things as anti-human as ‘glands’ and ‘heat cycles’ even exist? Why must humans keep the instincts of beasts? Isn’t this the ultimate insult to a high-intelligence species?!”
Gu Jin was powerless against this version of He Yu. In the cramped space of the aircraft, the scent of He Yu’s pheromones had flooded every corner, a faint honey fragrance, pure yet cloyingly sweet, absolutely irresistible!
Covering her nose, Gu Jin cursed the “damn alcohol” under her breath. She hadn’t eaten much, but she’d drunk quite a bit. She had felt fine before, but now, triggered by the Omega pheromones, the alcohol’s effect exploded in her system!
Ignoring He Yu, who was still tugging at her clothes, Gu Jin began rummaging through the craft for her own suppressants. The pheromones of an Omega in heat were an absolute biological command for any adult Alpha.
Normally, Gu Jin had enough professional training to stay rational, but now, with the booze in her system, she couldn’t guarantee anything!
After a desperate search, it hit her this craft belonged to Gu Ting! It was a brand-new delivery. There was no way her suppressants would be on board!
