My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 17
Half an hour later, Gu Jin had changed into a white casual suit with a black coat over it. She stood in the lounge behind the banquet hall, boredly kicking the corridor railing.
Click. The sound of a door opening came from behind. Gu Jin turned around to see He Yu in a white gauze long dress. Although it lacked some of the ethereal “celestial” aura of her previous gown, it wasn’t far off. More importantly, the conservative design of this dress made it look exceptionally pleasing to Gu Jin’s eyes.
He Yu straightened her skirt and looked at Gu Jin. “You’re going to wear that?”
The ball had just begun. As the guest of honor, Gu Jin definitely had to return. If she showed up like this, wasn’t she afraid her Emperor brother would perform an “execution of kin” on the spot?
With a tap on her shoulder, the seemingly ordinary casual suit Gu Jin was wearing transformed in the blink of an eye into the Vizer Empire’s formal military uniform.
The dark green base was woven with patterns of gold thread. The perfectly tailored fit highlighted Gu Jin’s excellent physique. Combined with the innate majesty of a military uniform and Gu Jin’s own aura, it was a perfect match far more magnificent than any standard ball gown.
Furthermore, this single uniform functioned as a micro-defense mech. It felt like ordinary fabric, but it was virtually immune to most basic attacks.
“Is this better?” Flicking her collar, Gu Jin threw on her custom-made cloak. The gold buttons and chains made the overall look even more exquisite.
Looking at Gu Jin’s attire, He Yu sighed inwardly with a hint of envy. A mech Gu Jin could carry a mech with her and use any model freely, while she didn’t even have the chance to touch one.
Noticing He Yu’s gaze, Gu Jin’s fingers twitched. She pursed her lips and reached out her hand. “Do you… want to try it?”
He Yu’s eyes flickered as she stared at the mech within reach, but she forced herself to look away. “The Interstellar Code stipulates that Omegas are not allowed to pilot any type of mech or participate in combat.”
Recalling what He Yu had said while drunk on the transport, Gu Jin fell into a rare silence. She withdrew her hand and rubbed her nose. “Protecting Omegas is the responsibility of Alphas and Betas. Besides, piloting a mech places a certain load on the body. Omegas have naturally weaker constitutions, so the rules are based on practical reality.”
“I have an A-rank constitution. I’m stronger than the vast majority of Betas and more than half of the Alphas out there. Do you think I need to be protected by people who aren’t even as strong as I am?”
Knowing she shouldn’t take her anger out on Gu Jin, He Yu still found herself unable to control her temper. Her words were laced with accusation.
What He Yu said was true, but Gu Jin felt something was still off. “Then what was that earlier? I really did just lightly embrace you, yet your reaction was so extreme. Doesn’t that show the gap?”
As soon as she said it, Gu Jin looked at He Yu’s still-pale face and furrowed brow, and her heart felt heavy. “Right, it was my fault. You’re not wrong, I—”
“Gu Jin! What are you doing up here? They’ve been looking for you everywhere! You…” Below them came the voice of Wen Ju. Wen Ju was Wen Zhixin’s younger brother and a good friend of Gu Jin—a well-known playboy in the Capital Star.
Everyone was searching for Gu Jin, and Wen Ju couldn’t reach her via optical computer. Thinking something had happened, he went searching and didn’t expect to actually find her. However… who was that person next to her?
The person looked a bit familiar. Because he played too many holographic games, his eyesight wasn’t great. Wen Ju squinted at He Yu for a long time, then suddenly his eyes snapped open and he jumped back. “Holy shit! He-Pervert?!”
“Gu Jin, why are you with her? Gu Jin, Gu Jin, if you’ve been kidnapped, just blink! I’ll go get reinforcements right now!”
Gu Jin: “…” Useless teammate.
Before Gu Jin could speak, He Yu stepped forward. She looked at Wen Ju, then at Gu Jin. “He-Pervert?”
“Exactly! An Omega who’s more Alpha than an Alpha—what is that if not a pervert? It wasn’t enough to crush and pummel us back then; you even made Master Gu’s life so miserable she couldn’t find a way out. Other Omegas are soft and sweet; you? You’re just… clatter, bang, boom!”
Addressing He Yu, and perhaps emboldened by the distance between them, Wen Ju poured out all his suppressed feelings from their school days. Finally, he patted his chest toward Gu Jin. “Master Gu, don’t worry. We’ve graduated now; we don’t have to be afraid of her. So what if she has good grades and high talent? Once you’re out of school, that means nothing. Master Gu, relax—even I can beat her in a fight now!”
“Shut the hell up!” Gu Jin covered her face, not wanting to watch how this twenty-year-unsolved idiot was going to die.
“You shut up,” He Yu said, glancing at Gu Jin. The latter made a zipping motion across her lips and stood there obediently.
He Yu turned back to Wen Ju and cracked her knuckles. “Even you can beat me?”
One must never lose momentum! Wen Ju stole a glance at Gu Jin and toughened his resolve. “Y-yeah, I said it!”
Nodding in “approval,” He Yu gripped the railing with one hand. Her skirt drew a graceful arc in the air as she leaped down like a soaring butterfly. In the next second, to the sound of Gu Jin’s vicarious toothache, Wen Ju let out a tragic scream as he was slammed into the ground, creating a human-shaped crater!
“Hiss!” Gu Jin sucked in a breath of cold air, watching He Yu stand by the edge of the pit and lightly brush her hands off. He Yu looked up at her. “Do you want to try?”
“No, no, I think the world should be a bit more peaceful.” Gu “Grand Marshal of the Borders” Violent-Ideologist Jin surrendered decisively.
Are you kidding? Even if she could win, she couldn’t actually fight an Omega. If she couldn’t fight back, she’d just be a punching bag. She wasn’t that stupid.
He Yu didn’t push it. After steadying her breathing, she surprisingly found that her previous physical discomfort had vanished. She stretched her arms, feeling an unprecedented sense of relief.
Glancing at Wen Ju in the pit and then back at her own hand, she wondered… Could it be that violence is good for one’s health?
“Alright, the people out front must be getting impatient. Let’s head over. Stop looking.” Gu Jin pulled He Yu away, worried that if they stayed any longer, He Yu might give Wen Ju another “treatment.”
Of course, before they left, Gu Jin didn’t forget to use her computer to notify a robot to dig Wen Ju out of the pit.
The two walked slowly, not using the hover-disks. After a moment of hesitation, Gu Jin spoke first. “If you really want to pilot a mech, I have a way. Don’t worry, a legal one.”
He Yu’s eyes lit up as she looked at Gu Jin. “What’s the catch? State your conditions.”
Gu Jin actually didn’t have any conditions. She just saw that He Yu truly loved mechs and she happened to be bored herself, so she’d mentioned it on a whim. Now that He Yu asked, she couldn’t think of anything.
“Well… how about calling me ‘Sister’?” Gu Jin stepped ahead and blocked He Yu’s path. He Yu didn’t react in time and walked straight into Gu Jin’s arms. Gu Jin instinctively hugged her.
Gu Jin & He Yu: “…”
Thump-thump, thump-thump. Thump-thump, thump-thump.
Gu Jin could hear her own heart nearly leaping out of her chest, let alone He Yu, who was pressed against it.
“Why is your heart beating so fast?” After nearly a minute, He Yu looked up at Gu Jin, who was still holding the same position. “A normal person’s heart rate is around 100, but yours is at 140. Is there something wrong with your heart?”
“I…” Gu Jin’s fingers curled slightly as she felt the soft warmth in her arms. She didn’t let go. “An Alpha’s heart rate is naturally a bit faster than a normal person’s. Plus, I have a Super S-rank physique. It’s normal.”
“Do you think because your biology grades were bad, I don’t know the facts either?” He Yu pierced through the lie instantly. She suddenly thought of the severe injuries Gu Jin had suffered. Could it be because she hasn’t fully recovered? Thinking this, He Yu ignored their posture and leaned her head against Gu Jin’s chest to listen. The heartbeat was getting even faster!
Before He Yu could draw a conclusion, there was a whoosh as the protective dome around the banquet hall vanished. Gu Jin and He Yu turned their heads simultaneously, only to meet the disbelieving stares of everyone in the room…
Following their gaze, He Yu looked at Gu Jin’s arm still wrapped around her and her own hand resting on Gu Jin’s shoulder… This… she really wanted to curse someone.
Taking a step back, she quickly pushed Gu Jin away. He Yu calmly straightened her hair while her heart was in a total panic. Even jumping into the Yellow River wouldn’t clear our names now!
“You!” Diwu Lingmei, who had been held back by Silas, stared at them with wide eyes before running over. “Why are you together?! And you’ve changed your clothes! What on earth have you two been doing?!”
If she hadn’t mentioned it, no one might have noticed, but now everyone saw that they had indeed changed clothes. Disappearing together from such an event, being caught in an embrace, and having changed clothes who could fail to understand the implication?
Facing the meaningful gazes of the crowd, He Yu silently moved behind Gu Jin. Gu Jin realized what was happening and stepped forward to block their view. “What are you all joking about? We just accidentally knocked over a plate, so we went to change. And do I look like someone who works that fast? Honestly.”
Crowd: I suspect you’re “driving” (making a dirty joke), but I have no evidence. Gu Ting: The tire tracks are literally on my face! Evidence be damned! Gu Jin, you’ve really brought “honor” to the Gu family!
While the crowd was speechless, Diwu Lingmei stepped forward and sniffed the air near He Yu, startling her. Then, Diwu Lingmei practically jumped. “Liar! You say you didn’t do anything? You smell exactly like Jin! That fresh grass scent! That’s Gu Jin’s pheromone scent!”
Gu Jin frowned. “You even know the smell of my pheromones?”
“Never mind your pheromones—in the Great Interstellar Fan Handbook, even your height, weight, birthday, the day you turned a month old, and even the number of hairs on your head are recorded! I know it by heart!” Diwu Lingmei looked like she was about to cry from grievance, though her words left the audience speechless.
“Enough,” Gu Ting said, unable to take it anymore. He slapped the table, ending the farce. “Gu Jin, you tell me. What is going on?”
“What else could it be? Our clothes got dirty, so we changed. Do you really want me to tell you that I drank too much and threw up all over He Yu, and couldn’t control my pheromones, so we had to change? Is that why we’re late?”
Gu Jin was never a patient person. Seeing a group of irrelevant people pointing fingers at her, she felt she was being kind just by not hitting them.
“Then why were you hugging just now!” Diwu Lingmei, seemingly determined to stoke the fire, questioned her again.
“Because I like He Yu, okay? Is that any of your business? Scram!” Gu Jin directly manipulated the hover-disk under Diwu Lingmei’s feet and sent her flying back to Silas. “Watch your own person, or I can’t guarantee she’ll leave the Vizer Empire with all her parts intact!”
Crowd: !!! What did we just hear? He Yu: Huh? Has Gu Jin lost her mind? Gu Ting: Fck! I knew it!*
Amidst the chaos of everyone’s thoughts, Gu Ting extended a finger that was trembling with rage. “Gu Jin! You. Come with me. Now!”
Knowing she was in for a lecture, Gu Jin waved her hand, and the banquet hall’s dome rose again, blocking the view. She turned to He Yu behind her. “I’ll find you tomorrow to tell you the conditions.”
After the low-voiced instruction, Gu Jin took her aircraft ring from her quantum ring and tossed it. The craft stabilized in mid-air. She granted He Yu royal special channel privileges and said, “Go.”
He Yu looked at Gu Jin with a look of hesitation, but in the end, she said nothing, boarded the craft, and vanished in the blink of an eye.
Taking a breath to settle her own jumbled thoughts, Gu Jin stepped onto a hover-disk and floated toward Gu Ting’s office.
Knock, knock, knock. For a rare once, Gu Jin actually knocked.
“Get in here!” But clearly, this was lost on the furious Gu Ting. As he spoke, Gu Jin felt a blur, and she was suddenly standing right in front of him.
“Gu Jin, oh Gu Jin… you really want me to die young! If it weren’t for the fact that my father and your father left early today, do you think those two legs of yours would still be intact?” Gu Ting slammed the table, his temples throbbing.
“Brother, don’t be mad. If I say it wasn’t true, and that I just said those things because I was pushed, would you believe me?” Seeing how angry he was, Gu Jin felt a bit sheepish. Miracles happen—she actually felt bad.
“Believe you? Do I look blind? Your eyes were glued to her from the very start of the night.” Gu Ting drank some water to calm down. I can’t hit her, I can’t fight her. She’s my only sister. More importantly, I can’t win a fight against her.
“Was I?” Gu Jin reasonably suspected he was talking nonsense. She didn’t remember that.
Seeing her blank expression, Gu Ting suspected she was playing dumb to get away with it. But he didn’t care about the details; compared to being “forced into a public disclosure” in front of every noble and foreign envoy, the details were trivial.
“Regardless of that, Gu Jin, let me ask you: Have the two of you actually had a physical relationship?” Pinching his brow, Gu Ting tried to believe in his sister one last time. Gu Jin wasn’t that kind of person.
But to his question, after a moment of silence, Gu Jin actually admitted it! She admitted it!
Gu Jin nodded. “Yes… yes, we have. Although at the time well, it happened once.”
CRASH! The desk under Gu Ting’s hands shattered into pieces.
