My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 16
Having reached a consensus with Qin Zhao, Gu Jin didn’t linger. She glanced back into the hall and saw He Yu still sitting obediently in her original spot, wearing Gu Jin’s coat. A satisfied smirk played across Gu Jin’s lips.
At that moment, He Yu was clutching the sleeves of the oversized coat, gritting her teeth. She had wanted to toss the garment aside the moment Gu Jin left, but then she remembered Gu Jin’s words. It wasn’t that He Yu lacked confidence in her figure, but she also felt the dress was a bit improper for the setting. That was why she had been hiding in the corner all evening.
She had just overcome her internal conflict and was about to stand up when Gu Jin pulled her back. Now, the thought of taking the coat off herself felt inexplicably impossible.
Everything is Gu Jin’s fault. Clutching the sleeves, He Yu had already imagined a hundred and eight different ways to murder the woman in her head.
“He Yu? Is that Gu Jin’s coat you’re wearing?”
Just as He Yu was contemplating the 109th method of execution, a man in a milky-white suit appeared before her.
He Yu looked up expressionlessly. It was the eldest son of the Wen family, Wen Zhixin, a man known across the Empire as a refined gentleman and a senior to both Gu Jin and He Yu during their time at Clini.
He had helped her quite a bit back then, so He Yu’s expression softened slightly, though she had no desire to discuss the coat. “Senior Wen, it’s been a long time.”
“It has been a long time, hasn’t it? Ten years? I went to Planet Chuxin after graduation. It’s been eleven years since I last returned. I heard you went to Planet Sasha?” Seeing she didn’t want to talk about the coat, Wen Zhixin smiled and sat down beside her, smoothly changing the subject.
It had been a while since He Yu had encountered a “normal” person like Wen Zhixin. Since returning to the Capital Star, she felt like her world was haunted by Gu Jin’s shadow, which had made her own temper quite explosive.
Thinking this, her face brightened further. “That’s right. By the way, Senior Wen, isn’t Planet Chuxin a border defense satellite bordering the Xulong Empire? Why did you decide to go there?”
“My specialty is biotechnology. Among the four empires, Xulong has the most advanced biotech. Chuxin hosts many joint research projects with them, so I went. Just like you—didn’t you go to the ‘Mech Star’ of the Empire, Planet Sasha?”
That made sense. Remembering his specialty, He Yu’s heart stirred. “I heard you’ve been researching pheromone compatibility lately?”
“I have—”
“Oh? Having a lively chat, are we? My, what a familiar face.” Gu Jin appeared out of nowhere behind Wen Zhixin, slapping him on the shoulder while looking at He Yu with a cold, fake smile.
Great. I look away for one second and another Alpha pops up!
Startled, Wen Zhixin turned to see the hand on his shoulder. “Junior Gu Jin? What a coincidence.”
“Quite a coincidence indeed.” Stepping around him, Gu Jin manipulated the controls of their chairs to move them apart, then sat herself down regally in the middle. “So, what were you two talking about?”
Wen Zhixin & He Yu: “…” How can a person be this shameless?
With a strained smile, Wen Zhixin looked at the two of them, noting the coat still draped over He Yu’s shoulders. “After all this time, your relationship is still so good.”
So… good? Gu Jin and He Yu locked eyes, then looked back at Wen Zhixin with suspicion. He seems like a nice guy, but is something wrong with his eyesight?
Feeling uncomfortable under their scrutiny, Wen Zhixin blinked in confusion. He stood up. “Well… maybe I’ll let you two talk. I see Xiao Ze over there; I’ll go say hello.”
“Sure, see you around, Senior.” Still thinking about his research project, He Yu waved him off dismissively, leaving the bewildered man to depart.
“Senior?” Once he was gone, He Yu turned to see Gu Jin propping her head up with one hand, staring at her. “So polite. Why don’t you call me ‘Sister Gu’?”
Slap! He Yu slammed her hand onto Gu Jin’s face, pushing the encroaching head away. “How can your face be so thick?”
Seeing Wen Zhixin had given He Yu an idea: with new technology, perhaps she wouldn’t need someone else’s help to overwrite the mark; she could eliminate it entirely. This thought brightened her mood, and she actually gave Gu Jin a better look.
Gu Jin felt the soft palm against her face. It was warm, and the warmth seemed to seep into her heart.
She reached up, took He Yu’s hand, and moved it away. She coughed to hide the slight flush on her face. Remembering what she wanted to say, her sarcastic tone came out a bit muddled. “Ahem. Anyway, Qin Zhao just told me he has someone he likes. So, don’t get any ideas about him. And Wen Zhixin? He’s not a good match for you either.”
He Yu: “???”
“Have you lost your mind?” She pulled her hand back, frowning. What is she even talking about?
“Maybe I have.” Gu Jin realized what she’d just said. She was supposed to be mocking He Yu’s one-sided crush, but it came out sounding protective? Damn it. It must be the bad feng shui of this banquet hall making her head spin.
Afraid to look at He Yu any longer, Gu Jin stood up to leave. But as she turned, she felt He Yu grab her arm.
Gu Jin: !!! What does this mean? Why is she holding me? Does she have something to say? Could it be that the person she likes is—
“Your coat. Take it.”
While Gu Jin was busy imagining He Yu piteously begging her to stay, she felt a weight in her hand. The coat had been transferred from He Yu’s shoulders to her grip. He Yu turned away with a cold face and started walking.
All the romantic delusions vanished. Gu Jin’s heart chilled halfway. She shook out the coat and, in a sudden move, wrapped He Yu in her arms from behind, whispering into her ear with gritted teeth, “Is wearing my clothes really that beneath you?”
“Gu Jin, let go. You’re squeezing me.” Wrapped in the tight embrace, He Yu felt a sudden discomfort in her stomach. She hesitated and patted Gu Jin’s hand.
Squeezing? Gu Jin looked at her hands; she wasn’t even using force. “If you’re going to lie, find a better excuse. I know how much strength I’m using. You have an A-rank constitution—you shouldn’t even feel this.”
“Gu Jin, are you letting go or not?” Her stomach churned more violently. He Yu’s face went pale as she gritted her teeth for one final warning.
Standing behind her, Gu Jin couldn’t see her face. Feeling stubborn, she actually tightened her grip. “No!”
“Then you asked for it…” Unable to suppress it any longer, He Yu grabbed Gu Jin’s arm. Using her last shred of reason, she controlled the hover-disks beneath their feet to zip them out of the banquet hall.
“Ugh—!”
Gu Jin: “…!!!”
Frozen like a statue, Gu Jin stared at herself. He Yu had just vomited all over her. He Yu quickly broke free and stumbled toward a pillar by a flower bed outside the hall, dry-heaving.
“He Yu… you’re really something!” Gu Jin felt like her teeth might shatter from how hard she was clenching them. In all her years, no one had ever dared to use her as a trash can. Literally.
Gu Jin didn’t even want to use her wrist computer; she activated her brain implant. Controlling the garden’s systems, she shifted them both from the garden to a private restroom in the blink of an eye. The pillar He Yu was leaning on became a wall.
Found herself surrounded by four walls, He Yu was stunned. Then, a blast of cold water hit her from the ceiling. The small restroom turned into a literal shower, drenching them both instantly.
Below their feet, the mess was washed away until not a trace remained.
Gu Jin looked at the drenched, disheveled He Yu. Her heart softened, and the freezing water turned warm. She reached out and pinched He Yu’s pale face. “Can’t even handle a little cold water? Useless.”
He Yu slapped her hand away, shielding her head from the flow. “Turn the water off!”
The water didn’t stop. He Yu felt her hand being pulled, and a bottle of water was shoved into it. Gu Jin’s voice rang out from above, thick with irritation: “Rinse your mouth.”
After being semi-forced to clean up, He Yu felt she was about to drown when the water finally stopped. She leaned against her waist, gasping for air as she opened her eyes.
Gu Jin’s stiff military-green dress had turned dark green from the water, clinging to her and outlining her perfect curves. Her long white hair dripped onto her face and clothes. Her silver-gray eyes were dark and unreadable. Standing there, she radiated a massive, terrifying pressure like a monarch on the verge of a violent rage.
He Yu instinctively took a step back. Clang! The water bottle fell to the floor with a loud echo.
“Sigh.” Gu Jin let out a soft breath, relaxing her fingers that were squeezed into a fist. Last time it was alcohol and pheromones, but what the hell is it this time?!
She took a deep breath, using every ounce of her will to suppress her surging pheromones. She pinched the bridge of her nose and pulled a large white towel from her quantum ring, wrapping He Yu up tightly.
“Don’t look at me with those pitiful eyes. No Alpha can resist an Omega acting vulnerable. I’m not in the mood to film a romance movie in a temporary bathroom.”
Startled, He Yu allowed herself to be wrapped up. Her nose twitched, and the scent of fresh grass filled her lungs. It was only then that she realized what was happening!
“Gu Jin! You, you’re absolutely shameless!”
