My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 14
The commotion in the hall drew a significant amount of attention. Gu Jin hesitated for a moment before finally withdrawing the hand that was pinching He Yu’s chin, though she pointedly left the other arm draped over He Yu’s shoulder.
Gu Jin leaned in close to He Yu’s flushed face. “Hmm, your face is red. It looks much better than that usual dead-pan expression of yours.”
Glaring back at her, He Yu’s knuckles cracked audibly. She was oscillating wildly on the precipice of an explosion.
“What are you two doing…” Having been dragged out for a lap by that stout man, Gu Ting and Xiao Ze returned to find Gu Jin sitting on the table, one arm hooked around He Yu’s shoulder, pulling her close. They were looking into each other’s eyes from such a short distance it seemed like they might kiss at any second.
The silent contest between the two was broken by Gu Ting’s voice. Gu Jin straightened up and let go of He Yu, acting as if nothing had happened. He Yu also looked away; her usually expressionless face showed nothing unusual except for the lingering redness.
Gu Ting looked at the two with a complicated expression. While he maintained a polite smile, in his heart, he was already putting Gu Jin through eighteen different types of torture. Of all the people to pick, you had to pick someone from the He family!
“Messenger of the Kada Empire, Princess Light, representing the Kada Empire to present a congratulatory gift to Grand Marshal Gu Jin!” Just as things were a mess, an electronic voice broke the stalemate. Gu Ting’s expression shifted—he had just remembered there were foreign visitors today.
“Welcome!” At Gu Ting’s command, the entire banquet hall underwent a staggering transformation. Everyone returned to their seats, a red carpet rolled out in the center, and white jade carvings were entwined with flowers and vines. The hall became elegant, exuding a deep sense of noble heritage.
Gu Ting, Xiao Ze, the Old Emperor, Marshal Gu, and Gu Jin sat on a raised platform facing the red carpet. Not a trace of the previous chaos remained; the hall was solemn and hushed.
To the sound of soft music, two figures appeared at the far end of the red carpet. Gu Jin looked up. The woman in the lead wore a snow-white palace-style gown, her long golden hair curled over her shoulders. Pearls glinted faintly in her hair under the lights.
This was Princess Light. As far as Gu Jin knew, the Eighth Princess was the Kada King’s favorite daughter—intelligent and courageous. Following behind her was a young man in black, holding a gift box that looked unremarkable.
Coming forward, the young man placed the gift box on a floating disk. After it was scanned and cleared, it was sent to Gu Jin. Then, the man looked at Gu Ting and bowed. “Peace be upon the Great Vizer Emperor. The Kada Empire comes with its congratulations.”
After the young man finished speaking, Princess Light’s gaze landed on Gu Jin at the edge of the high platform. Her beautiful eyes held a hint of shy timidity.
After several rounds of pleasantries, Gu Ting looked between Gu Jin and Light. Although Princess Light wasn’t from the Vizer Empire, she was a princess and a top-tier beauty. She was more than a match for Gu Jin, right?
Thinking this, Gu Ting’s expression softened. He invited them to sit in the Kada Empire’s designated area, hoping they would interact more.
“Messenger of the Free Alliance, Admiral Silas, representing the Free Alliance to present a congratulatory gift to Grand Marshal Gu Jin!” Just as the Kada pair sat down, the next announcement began.
Gu Jin missed the look between Gu Ting and Light. Hearing the announcement, she swirled her teacup. Today was a major event for the neighboring nations. The position of Grand Marshal of the Borders had been vacant for twenty years. Its sudden filling by a “demon” like Gu Jin was enough to make everyone uneasy.
Before she could think more, the Free Alliance representatives arrived. The leader, Silas, was a male Alpha Gu Jin knew well; they had even crossed blades before. Silas was followed by two others, a male and female pair of Omegas.
Silas stepped forward to exchange pleasantries. “These are the twin children of our Alliance Leader, the treasures of the Free Alliance. The Leader asked me to bring them along to see the world.”
Gu Ting saw through it instantly but maintained his smile. “Welcome. Please, take your seats.”
After settling the guests, Gu Ting looked toward the “culprit,” Gu Jin. She didn’t notice his gaze at all; she was leisurely drinking tea and even gave Silas a subtle “pinky up” gesture from across the room.
“Messenger of the Xulong Empire, Second Prince Qin Zhao, representing the Xulong Empire to present a congratulatory gift to Grand Marshal Gu Jin!” Another announcement rang out, and the breathing of everyone present seemed to hitch.
Even the habitually indifferent Gu Jin straightened her posture.
Gu Jin knew of Qin Zhao, but they had never fought. The Xulong Empire was the most unique of the four major nations. They didn’t rely on mechs; they relied on gene fusion—mixing human and beast genes to create living weapons.
The Xulong royals had integrated dragon genes, becoming the most powerful species of the era. Everyone was terrified because the Second Prince had an extremely eccentric temper; their safety might literally be at risk.
Under the anxious gazes of the crowd, a man in ancient-style white robes entered. He looked as gentle as jade, with features so beautiful they were mesmerizing.
Gu Ting’s heart was pounding. He looked at Gu Jin and almost fainted from rage. The person at the center of this storm, Gu Jin, was currently popping a grape into her mouth with one hand while staring with (unfriendly) intensity at He Yu!
And He Yu? She was staring back at Qin Zhao in the middle without a shred of fear, her eyes full of interest.
“The Xulong Empire comes to congratulate Marshal Gu. We are late; I hope the Great Vizer Emperor will forgive us.” Qin Zhao’s voice was as clear as a spring, completely unlike a terrifying “god of slaughter.”
“Not late at all,” Gu Ting replied. “Second Prince, please, take a seat.”
Qin Zhao sat quietly, looking like a frail scholar.
With everyone present, Gu Ting was about to speak when a girl in a pink dress suddenly burst forward. “Wait!”
“Daughter of the Third Leader of the Free Alliance, Diwu Lingmei, comes to congratulate Grand Marshal Gu Jin!” The girl stepped forward, looking at Gu Jin with determination.
Gu Jin frowned at the girl, she’d had a bad impression of her twice before. Gu Ting also felt a bit speechless. “I see. Take your seat.”
“Wait, Great Vizer Emperor, I haven’t presented my gift to Marshal Gu yet!” The girl ignored the room’s tension, her eyes fixed straight on Gu Jin.
Qin Zhao, who had been quiet, slammed his teacup onto the table with a clack. “What kind of trash is allowed to be an eyesore here?”
The sound struck everyone’s heart. Even Gu Jin gave him a second look. Silas, the Alliance Admiral, propped up his head in frustration at his troublesome Charge.
But Diwu Lingmei was unique. She glared at Qin Zhao, then pouted and looked at Gu Jin coquettishly, stamping her foot. “Gu Jin! Look at him being mean to me!”
Gu Jin: “???!!! Absolute horror!”
