My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 10
While He Yu had previously been frowning and serious, a faint smile suddenly appeared on her cold, aloof face. Her lips quirked up slightly as she looked at Gu Jin. “Does it matter if I’ve thought it through? Gu Jin, would you really abandon the search for the truth for those soldiers who died because of a mistake just because I said I wasn’t willing?”
Gu Jin looked at He Yu’s smile, her mind dazed for a moment, before she too laughed. “No.”
“Then there you have it. Here is the data, but keep in mind this is only a preliminary hypothesis. Without seeing the actual physical evidence, I can’t be one hundred percent sure.”
He Yu sent the complete version of the files from her optical computer to Gu Jin, adding that final disclaimer.
After receiving and encrypting the files, Gu Jin hesitated for a moment before sending the data she had previously scanned from Gu Ting’s office to He Yu.
“Take a look at these as well. With this added, can you find the specific location of the problem?”
As Gu Jin finished speaking, He Yu opened the files with some confusion. The more she read, the more shocked she became. “Where did you get these materials?”
It seems there really is a problem, Gu Jin thought, blinking. “From Gu Ting. He probably sent someone specifically to investigate.”
“These data points don’t match up,” He Yu magnified her screen, placing several documents side-by-side for comparison. A few minutes later, the calculation results came out, confirming a discrepancy.
However, the “academic failure” Gu Jin saw nothing but a mountain of astronomical numbers.
“Look here,” He Yu magnified the initial comparison and pointed it out to Gu Jin. “According to the investigation data, this area was not given special treatment. Actually, it was supposed to utilize quantum neutralization, and then…”
Blah, blah, blah. He Yu went on at length. Gu Jin grew drowsy, her head spinning with “stars.”
“Stop. Just tell me the result. You don’t need to explain the principles. Also, if there’s a problem, why wasn’t it discovered during the initial inspection and testing?” Finally unable to take it anymore, Gu Jin interrupted He Yu’s lecture. She truly couldn’t understand a word.
He Yu frowned at Gu Jin’s usual attitude toward learning, but on second thought, realized this wasn’t something that could be fixed overnight, so she let it go for now.
“To put it simply, it means someone cut corners. I mentioned before that I used a new protective measure—a man-machine separation operating mode—but the difficulty coefficient for implementing this is quite high.”
“As for why it wasn’t detected, I just took a look,” He Yu pulled two formulaic “hieroglyphics” in front of Gu Jin’s eyes. “See this? Both show the same result. But the only difference is that, according to my requirements, the special treatment for this section should be carried out during the final step of the mech assembly. These mechs, however, had the treatment completed while they were still individual parts.”
Gu Jin looked completely bewildered. He Yu gritted her teeth, practiced patience, and continued.
“So, they didn’t use the same program as the other parts. This led to the inspection looking like it matched the original design, but it was just a hollow shell. Its original function had completely vanished, and it even produced side effects. Do you understand now?”
Understand? Gu Jin scratched her head. Wasn’t this just bullying her?
Staring at the two “hieroglyphics” for a long time, Gu Jin frowned. “So… basically, you were supposed to put ‘1+1’ here, but instead, someone just put a ‘2’ directly. Is that right?”
He Yu: “…”
“You could put it that way.” Given Gu Jin’s level of understanding, it was a passing grade. He Yu pressed her fingers to her temples; this girl probably only knew “one plus one.” “So, while all the other parts are using an ‘N+N’ program, this one suddenly shows up with ‘2N.’ They can’t communicate or merge, and it even creates a rejection reaction.”
“Furthermore, I placed the operator’s position right at that ‘2’ location. Once the mech is activated, the operator not only loses their original protection but also has to endure the rejection from the mech itself. Naturally, the human body cannot withstand that.”
Using Gu Jin’s own logic, He Yu finally managed to explain it. Seeing the other woman nod, He Yu felt a faint, strange sense of accomplishment…
“I’m going to find the person in charge of processing this part right now. From the original design drafts to the manufacturing blueprints and annotations—I want to see exactly where it went wrong.” Specifically saving the section He Yu had singled out, Gu Jin closed her computer, ready to investigate.
It seemed Gu Jin wasn’t truly reckless or careless. She knew this might be a deliberate frame-up, so she didn’t go straight to the parts production office. Instead, she planned to pull up the entire chain to see which link had failed.
He Yu felt a sense of relief. Now, she could feel at ease leaving the rest to Gu Jin.
Just as He Yu was thinking this while watching Gu Jin’s retreating back, Gu Jin suddenly turned around at the door, looking as though she wanted to say something but was hesitating.
“Is there another problem?” For the first time, having realized Gu Jin wasn’t that stupid, He Yu spoke to her in a tone that could be described as pleasant.
Nodding, Gu Jin looked at He Yu. “Do you know that your brother is about to get engaged to the second miss of the Tao family?”
“Huh?” He Yu froze. “What?”
The He family had only two children: He Yu and her younger brother, He Yi. He Yu had been excellent in all aspects since childhood, and combined with Gu Jin—who never knew the meaning of “low profile”—as a constant comparison, she was well-known to everyone.
He Yu’s brother, He Yi, had done nothing but cause trouble, skip class, and get beaten since he was a child. When he got a bit older, his differentiation test showed he was an Alpha, so He Yu’s parents threw him into the military. He had been there for many years, but unlike Gu Jin, his record wasn’t eye-catching, so his presence had remained very low.
In this recent incident with the He family, because the Vizer Empire didn’t practice collective punishment, they were only investigating the primary individuals. He Yi, far away in the army, hadn’t been affected.
Of course, He Yu had always thought this way, and she didn’t want her brother to be distracted in the units, so she hadn’t told him anything. But now, Gu Jin was saying her brother was getting engaged to Tao Ran’s sister? Why didn’t she know!
Seeing the look of total confusion on He Yu’s face, Gu Jin felt relieved. she knew someone like He Yu wouldn’t involve herself in political marriage schemes.
“I just heard everyone talking about it. I thought your family had arranged it. I didn’t expect you not to know.” Gu Jin spread her hands with a harmless expression, as if it were truly just a casual question.
He Yu’s face darkened. “Our family would never arrange an engagement; there’s no need for it. That is absolutely hearsay!”
“Right, right, hearsay. Since your brother is still in the army, if it’s true, he’ll be back soon anyway. We’ll find out then, won’t we?” Not intending to argue with He Yu, Gu Jin was eager to go check the mech issue. Seeing that He Yu wasn’t asking further, she simply left.
Gu Jin went straight from the He residence to the palace. She dragged Gu Ting out and carefully explained what He Yu had said in her own way, sending all the data, evidence, and comparative guesses to him to wait for his decision.
Gu Ting listened in silence as Gu Jin babbled for a long time and sent him a mountain of data. Finally, she slapped his shoulder. “Got it?”
His expression was complicated. Gu Ting temporarily closed his computer and pulled Gu Jin down from where she had squatted on his desk during the “lecture.” “Are you saying He Yu gave you all this? And you showed her all the investigated files?”
“Yeah, what’s wrong?” Gu Jin looked at him with a frown, not seeing anything wrong with what she’d done.
Gu Ting: “…” I have a stupid sister. I forgot to strangle her when she was born. Is it too late to do it now?
“Isn’t He Yu your arch-enemy? Do you really think she’d give you evidence so damaging to her own family? You’re being used as a pawn! What if she’s leading us by the nose and turns the tables on us in the end? What do we do then?” Gu Ting poked Gu Jin’s forehead. Great. No need to worry about leaks; my sister hand-delivered the secrets to them!
Gu Jin slapped his hand away and poked him back. “Are you stupid or am I? Is the He family the only one in the Vizer Empire who understands mechs? Just follow this logic to manufacture a test model and verify it! Use a control group to see if it’s true—it’ll be clear at a glance!”
“Besides, in matters of right and wrong, personal grudges should be set aside. You’re so petty—and you call yourself an Emperor? No brains!”
Gu Ting pondered for a moment; it was indeed feasible. At the very least, it was better than running around like a headless fly as they had been.
With the major matter settled by Gu Ting, Gu Jin had one less thing to worry about. Since she couldn’t help with the rest anyway, she’d let others do the work.
“By the way, the second He child is coming back. You know that, right?” After giving orders, Gu Ting stretched unceremoniously and kicked Gu Jin, who was slumped in the hammock like a dead pig.
Speak of the devil. Gu Jin had just told He Yu about her brother, and now he was returning?
“Back for an engagement?” Gu Jin sat up in the hammock, blinking.
“What engagement? His term of service is up; he’s being reassigned back. Where did you get your rumors? Who is he supposed to be engaged to?” Gu Ting was baffled. He didn’t remember receiving any requests for an imperial marriage decree.
“Is it… a rumor then?”
Gu Jin opened her computer and showed Gu Ting the viral reports on the StarNet saying He Yi was returning specifically to get engaged to the second Tao daughter, Tao Xian.
Having not surfed the net for a few days, Gu Ting was shocked to find he’d missed such a huge story. “I haven’t heard Elder He mention this.”
“Whatever, we’ll see when the time comes.” Since Gu Ting didn’t know either, Gu Jin set the matter aside. If He Yi really was getting engaged, He Yu and Elder He would surely be the first to know.
Gu Ting didn’t dwell on it either, but then he slapped Gu Jin. “Almost forgot to tell you. Your sister-in-law set your welcome banquet for a week from now. The news will likely be posted on StarNet today, along with your official reassignment orders. Get ready.”
Gu Jin had no objection to that. As long as she didn’t have to do the work herself, they could do whatever they wanted.
“Also,” Gu Ting paused, taking a deep breath and looking a bit awkward. Finally, under Gu Jin’s impatient gaze, he blurted out the rest. “My father and your father talked a while ago. They think you’re not getting any younger and shouldn’t always be alone. So, I think this welcome banquet might actually be a matchmaking event for you. Just so you know.”
Gu Jin: “…” Just so I know what?!
“Why are those two old men so bored? Has my father settled his own business yet, or is he just here to meddle with mine?” Thinking about it gave her a headache. Gu Jin waved him off with a roll of her eyes. “My business is none of their concern.”
Surprised by her strong reaction, Gu Ting raised an eyebrow and poked her. “What’s with the big reaction? Do you have someone in mind? Don’t worry, Sis, if there’s someone you like, no matter who it is, your brother will snatch them for you. You have my full support!”
Hearing Gu Ting’s grand declaration, the image of He Yu’s soft, sleeping face from that morning immediately popped into Gu Jin’s mind. Her heart skipped a beat. She jumped out of the hammock and kicked Gu Ting aside.
“I don’t! What are you dreaming about? Fine, I’m going. Bye!”
She rushed out of Gu Ting’s office and vanished into the sky in her aircraft.
A bewildered Gu Ting stood there blinking. “She says she doesn’t, but who is she kidding? Tsk, tsk. A ‘big Alpha’ shouldn’t stay single too long. I wonder which little Omega has bewitched her heart?”
