Lu Yu first noticed that something was wrong after Ye Qianli hit her head. It seemed as though the woman had completely forgotten every moment of the ten years they had spent together, and she looked at Lu Yu with the cold, detached eyes of a total stranger. Lu Yu tried everything she could imagine to save their relationship, yet her efforts failed to salvage a love that had withered so abruptly.
“We should never see each other again,” Ye Qianli declared with chilling indifference before she packed her bags and walked out of Lu Yu’s life.
A month later, the zombie virus erupted and plunged the entire world into absolute chaos. When Lu Yu finally saw Ye Qianli again, it was on a television screen where her former lover was being identified as the very first mutated zombie. The news anchor warned that the mutation was unknown and the danger level was extreme, urging all citizens to take precautions for their safety.
Lu Yu could not bear to listen to the broadcast any longer, so she headed straight for the outskirts of the city where Ye Qianli had last been seen. Regardless of the risks, she was determined to find her one more time.
Upon stepping outside, Lu Yu was shocked to find that her immediate neighborhood remained peaceful and serene, appearing nothing like the wasteland a zombie apocalypse should be. Less than a hundred meters away, she spotted the woman standing guard by a fence. Aside from her somewhat tattered clothing, Ye Qianli looked exactly as she had on the day they parted.
“Are you staying here because you want to be eaten by zombies?” Ye Qianli asked, her voice still sharp and biting.
Lu Yu’s eyes welled with tears as she threw herself forward to pull the woman into a tight embrace. “Yes,” she whispered, “I want to be eaten by you.”
