My Ex-Girlfriend Is a Zombie Queen - Chapter 4
After lunch, they headed out to go shopping as was their custom. However, they hadn’t walked more than a few steps before Lu Yu tugged on the woman’s sleeve and pouted, refusing to go any further.
“It still hurts so much… everywhere…”
She pulled her scarf down with a look of grievance, revealing the savage bite marks scattered across her pale skin. They were painfully obvious.
“Is the ointment not working? I’ll go buy some more.” Ye Qianli panicked instantly, frantically searching for a nearby pharmacy. Before she could find one, Lu Yu snatched the phone from her hand.
“A-Li, if you just hold me for a while, it won’t hurt anymore.”
Lu Yu leaned into the woman’s embrace with shameless persistence, her voice trailing off into a spoiled whine. Peeking upward, she saw the mix of helplessness and heartache written clearly on Ye Qianli’s face. In that moment, a sharp pang like a needle prick touched Lu Yu’s heart.
She felt a twinge of regret for acting so childish, yet the warmth of the body against hers made it impossible to let go. Unconsciously, her grip on the woman’s clothes tightened, and she clung to her like a koala. “It’s so hard for us to get out together. Mmm, I just… want to stay with you a bit longer.”
Her heart and mind were entirely focused on the woman holding her, leaving her no room to care about anything else, not even the burning ache of her wounds.
“I’ll be right back.”
Though Ye Qianli was anxious, she methodically settled the delicate young lady onto a bench. She pressed a gentle kiss against Lu Yu’s lips, which finally managed to soothe her for the moment.
She bought the medicine as quickly as possible, but by the time she returned, she realized her back was drenched in a cold sweat. It was a bone-chilling sensation. What if she really hadn’t been able to control herself? What if she had actually bitten down—
She didn’t dare think about it, nor did she want to entertain any hypotheticals. When it came to her wife, even the smallest price was more than she could afford to pay.

From a distance, she watched Lu Yu twirling a strand of hair out of boredom, looking very much like an abandoned kitten. Yet, the moment Lu Yu saw her, those bright eyes erupted with a sudden, dazzling radiance.
Ye Qianli felt her heart thud heavily. The world around her seemed to lose its color, and her mind involuntarily drifted back to the first time she had met Lu Yu.
On the day of freshman registration, the allegedly arrogant and domineering young miss of the Lu family had taken the initiative to sit right next to her. As she approached, the sweet scent of her perfume reminded Ye Qianli of a pampered rose in a private garden, the kind that made everything else nearby seem dull by comparison.
At that time, Ye Qianli was too busy balancing her studies with the pressure of repaying student loans and the relatives who had funded her education. she had no time to pay attention to anyone, let alone get involved in the games of the wealthy.
After being treated as though she were invisible for a week, Lu Yu had finally cornered her in a stairwell after class. The usually willful girl stood there clutching the hem of her skirt, glaring at her with tear-rimmed eyes.
“The least you could do is acknowledge me…” she had huffed.
Even though she was supposed to be the one doing the bullying, she looked like the one being bullied instead. To this day, Ye Qianli remembered the exact moment her heart had skipped a beat.
Beauty truly was a distraction.
Even though she knew it had all started as a casual bet, the moment Lu Yu placed a hesitant hand into her palm, all logic seemed to vanish. She allowed herself to be led entirely by the other woman. She only wished that time would slow down, just for a little while longer.
Later on, Lu Yu won the bet, but she didn’t seem particularly happy about it. Instead, she began seeking Ye Qianli out even more frequently. Finally, one day, she leaned in and whispered nervously into her ear, asking if they could “really” date.
Ye Qianli had been so dazed by the surprise that she couldn’t find a single word to say. Eventually, Lu Yu grew so annoyed that she bit down on Ye Qianli’s collarbone. It was only then that she instinctively answered with a “yes” to calm the feisty kitten down. In that brief span of time, a mist had already formed in Lu Yu’s beautiful eyes, nearly turning into tears.
As they grew closer, she discovered that her “kitten” was not only prone to crying but was also incredibly clingy. As long as Lu Yu had the energy to move, she would find a dozen different ways to make Ye Qianli hold her. No matter how much she puffed out her fur or pretended to be angry, she would always end up snuggling back into the woman’s arms with a soft plea.
She was like a delicious dessert delivered right to the door—intoxicating and sweet. Sometimes, when Ye Qianli looked up from her books, she would catch Lu Yu staring at her, her gaze filled with a love so blatant it was impossible to hide. Even after they started working and spent less time together, their dynamic had never changed.
There were so many memories, and every frame was precious.
Squeezing the medicine in her hand, Ye Qianli let out a slow breath as a certain thought became increasingly clear. If she had been hesitant before, these past two days had made it clear that she had to make a choice. She could not delay any longer. She refused to let the woman she loved come to even the slightest harm, that was her principle, and it was a line she would never cross.
“Why are you spacing out?” Lu Yu asked, waving a hand in front of the woman’s face.
“It’s nothing.”
The woman’s smile was a bit strained, but her next words made Lu Yu wonder if she was hallucinating.
“Honey, since we both have time today, why don’t we move our tenth-anniversary celebration to today?”
“Today?”
A surge of excitement rushed through Lu Yu’s mind, and she was almost ready to agree instantly. But as the words reached her lips, she forced them into a different direction. “No.”
“We’ll celebrate today, and we’ll celebrate next week too,” she said, clutching the woman’s fingertips as if afraid she might run away. “Don’t you dare try to get out of it by combining them.”
She still planned to give the woman a surprise on the actual anniversary. If they moved it forward, the surprise wouldn’t be ready.
“Then let’s head home and apply the medicine first,” the woman said after a moment of silence, gently stroking Lu Yu’s hair.
“Mm.” Seeing her compromise, Lu Yu’s lips curved into a smile, her shallow dimples appearing.
However, she never could have imagined that the next news she would receive wouldn’t be about their anniversary, but that Ye Qianli had been in a car accident and suffered a severe head injury.
