My Clingy Fiancée Is Forcing Me to Marry Her Again - Chapter 2
Walking behind the door, Li Fangge hugged her left hand over her lower abdomen, pressing down the open lapel of her white pajamas. Enduring a headache, she extended her right hand and abruptly pulled open the bedroom door.
As expected, standing outside the door was her manager, always dressed in business attire with her shirt collar buttoned all the way up.
The door was suddenly opened, catching the manager off guard, and her right hand, clenched into a stone-like fist, punched only air.
She was clearly startled, freezing at the doorway, speechless for a moment.
Quickly, she regained her composure and calmly said, “Miss Hegou’s fiancée has been waiting for a long time. She said she absolutely won’t leave if she doesn’t see you today. I—”
“Sister Yi!”
Li Fangge no longer cared about her headache.
She didn’t even care to look in the mirror to check the injury on her head.
The changes in the bedroom were automatically ignored; after years of performing away from home, she wouldn’t care what kind of room she woke up in when the sun came up.
Right now, the most urgent task was to send away the unromantic and inflexible Chen Qiaoyi. “I’m saying—” She bit out the next two words with extra force, “When did you find me a fiancée?”
“Miss Hegou, please don’t joke like this. Your fiancée was arranged by Mr. Li and Mrs. Chen.”
Chen Qiaoyi covered her right hand with her left, placing them solemnly over her lower abdomen.
Her meticulous and rigid manner was irritating to the messy and unrestrained Li Fangge.
Li Fangge couldn’t help but frown. It was correct to call her father Mr. Li, but her mother wasn’t named Chen.
She didn’t remember her dad arranging a fiancée for her.
Let alone a fiancée, Boss Chen didn’t even know she liked women.
As the questions in her mind piled up, “How did last night’s concert end?”
“Miss Hegou, your fiancée is waiting at the main entrance right now. If you keep ignoring Miss Guan like this, Mr. Li will be angry when he finds out.”
Chen Qiaoyi kept saying “Miss Hegou” and “fiancée” over and over.
Hearing it made Li Fangge’s head hurt even more. “Can you stop calling me ‘Miss’?”
“I have always addressed you this way, and it is approved by Mr. Li and Mrs. Chen.”
Li Fangge put her right hand back on her head. Continuing this conversation with this woman would make her head explode.
Wait a minute?!—
Li Fangge was greatly surprised. Her head was completely fine. Didn’t that large stage light smash her head during the concert last night? Not to mention the steel structures that crashed down and buried her. How is it that now—
She looked down and found that, from bottom to top, she didn’t have any wounds or discomfort.
The only uncomfortable part of her entire body was a heavy head and a dry mouth—hmm, very much like the symptoms of a hangover.
Was the scene where she was crushed to death at the concert last night just a dream?
No, no, no. Last night’s concert was real. Li Fangge was very certain.
“Sister Yi, last night’s concert—”
“If Miss Hegou absolutely must ask,” Chen Qiaoyi’s tone was a little impatient, as if she was disdainful of answering any questions about the concert. “You and Miss Bai came back early last night. Afterward, while drinking, you kept saying that concert was a pile of dog shit, no, not even dog shit—”
Li Fangge closed her eyes and swallowed, raising her right hand to cut her off. How could she possibly say her own concert was a pile of dog shit? “I would never say such a thing!”
Her singing was good; the whole world acknowledged that.
Even if she occasionally performed poorly, it would certainly not be dog shit!
“Miss Hegou was very drunk, so of course you don’t remember what you said.”
Li Fangge pressed her finger against her throbbing temple. She opened her eyes and slightly lowered her head. Her ink-black long hair fell from her thin shoulders, spreading out in a patch of darkness, concealing her somewhat pale face. “After the concert last night, I drank alcohol? Before, didn’t you forbid me from drinking?!”
In her mind,
Her questions were piling up.
Who is Mrs. Chen? Who is Miss Bai? And who exactly is her fiancée, Miss Guan?
It was now that Li Fangge finally noticed that this was not her home in Shanghai; her room was not this gloomy.
Where exactly was this place?…
“I forbade it, but did Miss Hegou ever listen?” A fleeting look of grievance appeared on Chen Qiaoyi’s face.
Wait—when did this woman’s way of speaking become so gentle?
In Li Fangge’s memory, her manager Chen Qiaoyi had always been very strong, especially when it came to drinking. Because it was bad for her throat, she would never let her touch stimulating things like alcohol. How could getting drunk possibly happen?!
“Haven’t I always listened to you on this matter?”
Chen Qiaoyi seemed to understand something and quickly pulled the conversation back. “So, Miss Hegou, are you still not planning to see Miss Guan today?”
Li Fangge understood the implication of the question—she didn’t want to waste the time of all three of them.
To unravel the confusion in her heart, Li Fangge felt it was necessary to meet this fiancée, Miss Guan, in person. “Tell her to come in. I’ll change my clothes first.”
Chen Qiaoyi was stunned by the response, her expression even more exaggerated than when the door was opened and startled her moments ago.
“O-Okay. Yes.”
“What’s wrong with you today?” Li Fangge found Chen Qiaoyi a bit odd, completely lacking her usual composure even when facing a collapsing mountain, and stuttering was something that should never happen to her.
“Nothing, nothing at all. I will go and invite Miss Guan in right away.”
With that, she quickly turned around and hurried away.
Li Fangge peered out the door, staring at Chen Qiaoyi’s retreating figure for a few seconds, then retreated into the room, deep in thought.
All the clothes in the walk-in closet were unfamiliar.
Although they were all her size, what was with all the hoodies and casual wear?
Everyone around her knew she didn’t wear such informal clothes.
Shrugging off her pajamas, she haphazardly pulled on a loose, long white shirt she would never wear, and then neatly tied up her hair.
Standing in front of the full-length mirror, she was suddenly startled by her reflection. “Who are you?” she blurted out.
The same face, the same figure, but this must be her from at least six or seven years ago, right?
The thirty-year-old her would not look like the woman in the mirror, with such incredibly thick hair and an obvious youthful naivety on her face, and skin so incredibly smooth. This was genuine youth, certainly not the result of good maintenance.
She immediately raised both hands. Heavens, her hands were so much softer. These delicate, white fingers could absolutely not belong to a thirty-year-old—
“Who are you?!” Li Fangge was bewildered, asking the mirror again.
After a few seconds of daze, she ran out of the closet and rushed into the bathroom, turned on the water, and lowered her head, repeatedly splashing water on her face. “A dream, it must be a dream!” Her murmured self-talk was quickly washed away by the running water.
After rinsing her mouth and turning off the water, she looked up, staring at her dripping face in the mirror. She opened her mouth blankly and answered herself hesitantly, “You are Li Fangge.”
She stared at the person in the mirror for a while, then weakly pulled out a tissue and wiped the cold water off her face.
“Knock, knock, knock. Knock, knock, knock!”
“Miss Hegou, Miss Hegou!”…
The soul-snatching, life-demanding knocking started again.
The pounding instantly made Li Fangge’s head throb faintly. Without a doubt, it must be Chen Qiaoyi again. Even her knocking was rigid and methodical: two sets of three knocks, with a two-second interval, followed by two calls of “Miss Hegou,” and if there was no response, she would repeat the procedure.
Taking a deep breath, Li Fangge walked out of the bathroom.
She needed to meet her fiancée to figure out if all of this was a dream.
Pulling open the door, Li Fangge looked down at Chen Qiaoyi, who was about a head shorter than her. “What is it?”
“Miss Guan, she won’t come in.”
“Won’t come in?!”
If Li Fangge remembered correctly, Chen Qiaoyi had just said, “Your fiancée has come again” and “If you keep ignoring Miss Guan like this,” which meant Miss Guan had been here more than once. Since she had been invited, shouldn’t she be eager to rush in?
“Yes. She said—”
“Say it all at once, please.”
“I pleaded with her for a long time. Miss Guan said that if Miss Hegou does not come to fetch her personally, she would rather meet you outside the main gate, even if she has to wait there and turn into a ‘Wife-Watching Stone’—”
“What on earth is that supposed to mean?!” Li Fangge stepped out the door, passed Chen Qiaoyi, and proceeded down the hallway.
As she walked downstairs, she wondered, where exactly was she right now?
This fiancée, so demanding, could she be a drama queen?!
Reaching the first floor, crossing the main hall, and stepping outside, she stopped abruptly on the porch, looking out along the driveway. It was quite a long distance to the gate, and the bright sun made her hesitate.
Sigh, yes, Miss Guan was undoubtedly a drama queen. Wouldn’t it have been better to drive in—
Hearing footsteps behind her, Li Fangge turned around to see Chen Qiaoyi stop and hand her a pair of sunglasses.
She took them. After putting them on, she stepped down the stairs.
Five or six minutes later, she met her fiancée outside the gate.
Why did she recognize the other woman as her fiancée at a glance?
Because she was the only woman standing outside the gate.
The moment she stopped, the woman ran toward her, skipping like a little white rabbit.
Li Fangge took off her sunglasses, utterly horrified.
Wasn’t this woman the delicate, frail flower she had seen in Hong Kong before?!
How did she go from being a fan and a fortune teller to her fiancée upon meeting again?!
Wait a minute, since when was same-sex marriage legal?
If she didn’t move now, the delicate flower was going to cling to her.
Almost instinctively, Li Fangge quickly turned sideways, narrowly avoiding the little white rabbit that tried to stick to her…
