My Brother's Arranged Marriage Partner Is My Boyfriend - Chapter 8
The desire to chat was fake; the intention to come over and tease him was very real.
Bai Nanxing lost simply because Yan Mo was also present. He couldn’t very well start cursing, and that was exactly the result Mo Leyang wanted.
“Junior, why aren’t you saying anything?”
It was a total case of asking something he already knew the answer to!
Yan Mo spoke up to excuse him, “Senior, I’m sorry, my friend is a bit ‘slow-to-warm-up.’ Generally, when he chats with strangers, it takes a long time for him to react.”
Mo Leyang’s lips curled up slightly. “Slow-to-warm-up, huh…”
Yan Mo asked, “Is there something wrong with being slow-to-warm-up, Senior?”
Recalling Bai Nanxing’s performance in the equipment room, Mo Leyang narrowed his eyes. “It’s nothing. I’m also slow-to-warm-up, so I understand.”
Bai Nanxing looked up at him as he continued to spout nonsense. If that was called being slow-to-warm-up, then the entire human race was slow-to-warm-up.
This person was not only dangerous but a master of lies!
Seeing Bai Nanxing’s frustrated expression, Mo Leyang found it exceptionally amusing. He even felt the urge to be a bit more wicked; he lowered his other hand and slowly reached toward the seat next to Bai Nanxing.
Sensing what he was trying to do, Bai Nanxing immediately grabbed that restless hand with his own and gripped it tightly.
This person was not only dangerous and a master of lies, but his personality was particularly vile!
In the span of just half a day, Bai Nanxing felt he had never understood a person so clearly, and Mo Leyang embodied every negative trait.
But his strength was truly no match for Mo Leyang’s. Before his hand could even get warm from the grip, Mo Leyang broke free from his grasp and placed his hand directly on Bai Nanxing’s thigh.
Bai Nanxing had never suffered such an insult; he stood up straight from his seat.
Seeing him get up, Yan Mo asked, “What’s wrong, Nanxing? Your face looks a bit pale. Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, it’s nothing.”
Bai Nanxing’s eyes were slightly red, looking as if he had just been bullied. In reality, he had been bullied, and intentionally so, right in front of his roommate.
Worst of all, he was easily rattled.
“Yan Mo, my stomach feels a bit uncomfortable. I didn’t finish my food, so could you please ask the owner to pack it up for me?”
Seeing that his complexion was indeed poor, Yan Mo figured he might have eaten something that disagreed with him today and told him to hurry back to the dorm. “Okay, we’ll pack it for you once we’re done. You go ahead.”
Bai Nanxing said thank you and turned to leave.
As he walked past Mo Leyang, he clearly heard a playful, mocking sound coming from behind him.
This person did it on purpose. He intentionally wanted to make him look foolish.
After walking for a while, Bai Nanxing finally stopped. He couldn’t understand what Mo Leyang’s purpose was in doing this.
Was it just to tease him and make him look bad? No, that definitely wasn’t the reason. Could he be someone sent by Bai Ruoning? That was even more unlikely.
Bai Nanxing felt a slight headache coming on. Whatever the opponent’s goal was, this person was certainly not simple.
Not long after he left, Mo Leyang followed suit.
He hadn’t even touched the noodles Yan Mo had ordered for him before asking the owner to pack them up. It was a very impolite gesture, and Mo Leyang knew it, so he very thoughtfully paid for all the noodles before leaving.
“So, did you find the person?”
After stepping out of the noodle shop, his good friend Zhou Lin was standing outside waiting for him.
The two talked as they walked.
Mo Leyang said, “The old man’s taste is truly terrible. He sends all sorts of mess to the house. If I didn’t know better, I’d think the Mo family was a recycling center for junk.”
Zhou Lin had transferred schools along with Mo Leyang, but because of family matters, he arrived a day later than Mo Leyang, only reaching the school today. “This might not necessarily be your old man’s idea. Have you forgotten? Your brother can also make decisions in your house now.”
At the mention of Mo Yichen, Mo Leyang suddenly gave a cold laugh. “If it’s his idea, then he should go to the hospital and get a new pair of eyes.”
Zhou Lin didn’t see it that way. “You should know your big brother’s taste better than I do. Do you think he would take an interest in a mere illegitimate son from the Bai family?”
No one was a fool, and Mo Leyang knew this well.
Mo Yichen had always had very high standards; he didn’t even care for the young master of the Gu family in North City, let alone a shunned illegitimate son of the Bai family.
Having a bad reputation was one thing, but if he were to marry him, there would be no end to the gossip. Mo Yichen wasn’t so stupid as to let people point fingers at his back to that extent.
Furthermore, there was no real sentiment among the elite families; everything was a transaction. Those much-touted stories of “love” were nothing but a joke in the face of these deals.
Therefore, if Mo Yichen took an interest in Bai Nanxing, it wasn’t because of the person himself, but because of the Bai family behind him.
“That’s why I said, if he’s eyeing that illegitimate son of the Bai family, he really should go to the hospital for an eye transplant.”
Zhou Lin finally understood what Mo Leyang meant. Although the Bai family was an elite household, they weren’t even worth mentioning compared to the Four Great Families. If Mo Yichen wanted to secure his position as the heir, he should find a larger backing instead of choosing a family like the Bais.
“That means the old man has a hand in this.” Zhou Lin was still a bit puzzled. “But why is your old man so set on the Bai family’s illegitimate son? Could it be simply because he’s good-looking?”
Mo Leyang had been thinking about this lately too, but he couldn’t see through the old man’s schemes. Since he had nothing else to do, he had come to the school to gather some intel. “The old man didn’t explain the reason, nor did he say that this illegitimate son would definitely marry Mo Yichen. I don’t know what that old fox is up to.”
“So, what are your plans next? Your big brother isn’t easy to deal with. Don’t let him catch any dirt on you, or he’ll go complain to the old man, and you’ll be finished.” Zhou Lin kindly warned him.
Mo Leyang wasn’t the only child in the Mo family. Mo Yuncheng had five children in total: three sons and two daughters. Mo Leyang was the third.
Moreover, they didn’t all share the same mother. Mo Leyang and Mo Yichen were not full siblings; they were only brothers on the surface. And this “big brother” on the surface wanted to see him dead every single day.
“If you hadn’t gone abroad back then, who knows how that big brother of yours would have tried to torment you.”
Zhou Lin understood the Mo family’s situation well. Mo Leyang was his only close friend, and while he couldn’t interfere in these matters, he still hoped Mo Leyang would stay safe.
“You think I went abroad back then because I was afraid of him?” Mo Leyang sneered. “The reason I went abroad was that staying in the Mo family was too boring. The old man didn’t have any interesting toys for me to play with, and he was worried I’d stir up trouble, so he sent me away overnight.”
At that, Zhou Lin suddenly felt helpless. “You promised me yourself this time that you wouldn’t cause a scene like before. A man’s word is his bond.”
“As long as they don’t actively provoke me, I definitely won’t cause a scene.”
“With your reputation as the Third Young Master of the Mo family, if you don’t provoke others, who would dare provoke you? Unless they have a death wish.”
Zhou Lin suddenly remembered something and asked, “He doesn’t recognize you, does he?”
Mo Leyang didn’t react for a moment. “Who?”
“The illegitimate son of the Bai family.”
“I haven’t stayed at the Mo house since I was a kid. Where would he have had the chance to meet me?”
“Then what are your plans? If your big brother really marries him, he’ll definitely use the Bai family to deal with you. You’ve just returned; there probably aren’t many people in the clan who will support you.”
“I only went abroad; I didn’t die.”
Zhou Lin didn’t want to get involved in the Mo family’s affairs; mishandling them would only lead to trouble. As a best friend, the only thing he could do was offer reminders. “Alright then, I won’t worry about it.”
But Mo Leyang said, “Do me a small favor.”
Zhou Lin knew it. “What favor?”
Mo Leyang said, “The old man is hosting a banquet at home this weekend and invited Bai Yi and his illegitimate son. You know me—I don’t have many hobbies, but I do love a good show. Help me keep an eye on Mo Yichen’s movements.”
“I’m going to the front lines for you, then where will you be?”
“Naturally, I’ll be having a sweet, secret tryst with my future little sister-in-law.”
Zhou Lin rolled his eyes so hard they almost disappeared. “Get lost!”
On the other side—
Yan Mo returned to the dorm carrying two large boxes of packed noodles. Bai Nanxing was the only one in the room, sitting at his desk reading a book and wearing a long white shirt.
He was as quiet as ever.
“You didn’t eat either?” Bai Nanxing asked, seeing him carry two takeout boxes.
Yan Mo put the boxes on the table with a look of regret. “This one isn’t mine; it’s the Senior’s. He didn’t eat a single bite, said his friend had something urgent and left, so I was left alone in the shop to eat. Here, I just packed it all up.”
Bai Nanxing wanted to see what Mo Leyang was really up to, so he didn’t expose his lying behavior in front of Yan Mo. He picked up his phone and asked, “How much money should I transfer to you?”
He had intended to treat him, but then Mo Leyang showed up, and he had run off without even looking at the prices.
However, Yan Mo said, “Nanxing, you don’t need to pay. The Senior paid for everything.”
“He paid?”
“Yes! I said I was treating, but he went out and settled the bill secretly.”
At this point, Yan Mo’s eyes were practically sparkling. He hooked a chair with his foot and sat down in front of Bai Nanxing, asking excitedly, “Nanxing, so? How was it?”
Bai Nanxing didn’t know what he was asking and was a bit confused. “What… how was what?”
“That Senior!” Yan Mo recalled that face, and he was practically drooling. “He’s pretty great, right?”
If Bai Nanxing hadn’t experienced those things, he might have had the same reaction as Yan Mo. People with such gentlemanly poise were rare, and he was so good-looking that he stood out in any crowd.
But it was all an act.
That man was dangerous.
Bai Nanxing didn’t want to discourage Yan Mo, but at the same time, he worried that Yan Mo wouldn’t see the man’s true nature and would get cheated later. With how naive Yan Mo was, he definitely couldn’t win against a man like that.
“Do you… like him very much?”
Yan Mo didn’t understand why Bai Nanxing would suddenly ask that. He spoke truthfully, “It’s not that I like him very much, it’s just rare to meet someone so much my type. I want to give it a try.”
Bai Nanxing fell into silence.
