My Brother's Arranged Marriage Partner Is My Boyfriend - Chapter 3
Bai Nanxing could not empathize with what Yan Mo described as a “peerlessly handsome” senior. In a school where good-looking people were a dime a dozen, handsome guys were never in short supply; it simply wasn’t anything new.
However, since Yan Mo liked him, Bai Nanxing didn’t want to dampen his spirits. He followed the conversation and asked, “Is he your type?”
Yan Mo didn’t speak, but his shy expression betrayed everything.
Unlike Bai Nanxing, who had been “bent” later in life, Yan Mo was born gay. He had only been interested in boys since he was a child and kept a certain distance from girls. When they first met, Yan Mo actually had feelings for him, but Bai Nanxing had rejected him.
It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with Yan Mo, but rather—the two of them were the exact same “model.”
To prevent such an awkward situation from happening again, Bai Nanxing offered a kind reminder: “Are you sure he’s the one on top? And not the one on the bottom?”
These words reminded Yan Mo of the time he confessed to Bai Nanxing. He really hadn’t expected that Bai Nanxing, with a height of nearly 1.8 meters and such a handsome face, would actually be a 0 (bottom)!!!
And a pure 0 at that!!!
When Bai Nanxing had stood there with that height and that face telling him the truth, Yan Mo felt a significant blow to his heart. He was so embarrassed he could have curled his toes and dug a hole in the floor.
He had even fallen into a state of self-doubt.
“That time with you was an exception! This time my intuition tells me I definitely haven’t misjudged him. He is absolutely a 1 (top)!”
“And what if your intuition is wrong again?”
Having gone through it once, Yan Mo wasn’t so certain anymore. He said dejectedly, “It’s all your fault. My intuition never used to be wrong before!”
Bai Nanxing felt quite innocent. He had never imagined Yan Mo would be interested in him and was quite startled at the time. “So what do you plan to do? Confess directly, or feel him out first?”
Yan Mo said, “I want to confess directly, but he doesn’t even know me. That would be too strange. Besides, if I get rejected on the spot, it would be too awkward.”
This matter was indeed difficult to handle. Bai Nanxing had never encountered such a situation, so he couldn’t offer Yan Mo any advice. “Just observe him for a while. Maybe he isn’t even worth your affection.”
These words didn’t comfort Yan Mo; instead, they stung even more. “I just want to find a 1 to lean on. Why is it so hard!?”
Bai Nanxing really didn’t know how to comfort him. Fate is something that cannot be forced, and there is no God of Marriage in this world. Even if there were, the Old Man under the Moon probably wouldn’t enjoy playing matchmaker for gays.
Therefore, there was a high probability that Yan Mo would remain “un-top-ped” and alone.
“Actually… you could try changing your perspective. Being the one on top is also quite good.”
Yan Mo said very seriously, “No way. I just want to be the one on the bottom! Even if the Jade Emperor himself came down, he couldn’t change my resolve! Besides, Nanxing, aren’t you the same?! How about… Nanxing, you change your perspective and be a 1 for me?!”
Bai Nanxing thought Yan Mo had completely given up on that idea, but he hadn’t expected him to still be dwelling on it. He said helplessly, “I am different from you.”
The things he wanted had never been the same as what Yan Mo wanted; they were not on the same path.
Even if he wanted to be the one on the bottom, it didn’t mean he was simply the “submissive” party.
Yan Mo was unconvinced. If they both wanted to be 0s, how were they different!
“Then tell me, how are you different?”
Bai Nanxing didn’t want to explain this issue. He continued walking forward and glanced at the time. It was almost time for class to end, so he quickly changed the subject: “Are you going back to the classroom? There are only ten minutes left until class is over.”
Yan Mo followed suit and checked his phone. It was indeed almost time. If they climbed the stairs now, the bell would probably ring the moment they arrived. “Then, should I just go straight to the canteen to eat and then head back to the dorm?”
“Let’s go.”
Yan Mo followed along obediently.
Halfway there, he realized something was off. He immediately circled around to stand in front of Bai Nanxing and asked, “Don’t change the subject! You haven’t answered me about what happened just now. Answer me first!”
Bai Nanxing didn’t want to discourage him, but if he didn’t give a reason, Yan Mo would likely pester him all day. So, he simply came up with an excuse: “Yan Mo, I’m not lacking in men. I hope you remember that.”
Yan Mo felt even more stung, clutching his chest as if he were about to spit blood from the blow.
Although many people gossiped about Bai Nanxing’s background behind his back—mostly spreading yellow rumors—his face was simply too beautiful; it was hard not to like him.
Yan Mo vividly remembered when the semester first started. He had walked into the dorm with his room number, and Bai Nanxing was sitting on his bed. He seemed to have just showered; his hair was still wet, and he was wearing a plain white shirt with a blue towel draped over his shoulders. When he turned his head at the sound of the door opening, Yan Mo was stunned for a moment.
He had always felt that the “beauties” described in books were just figments of the ancients’ imaginations—how could someone look like that in reality? But after seeing Bai Nanxing, only one thought remained in his mind: The ancestors did not lie to me!
“Fine, I shouldn’t have insulted myself.” Yan Mo slumped his shoulders, deeply regretting his actions. If he could do it over, he would give himself a slap and keep his mouth shut.
However, sometimes Yan Mo was curious. Bai Nanxing’s own conditions were so good—aside from his less-than-honorable birth which people criticized—there were no other issues. But after half a year of living together, Yan Mo hadn’t seen anyone by Bai Nanxing’s side, not even a shadow. Sometimes Yan Mo really wondered if Bai Nanxing was secretly seeing someone behind his back and just didn’t want anyone to know.
Otherwise, despite the many men who came looking for him at the dormitory, Bai Nanxing remained completely unmoved.
“Yan Mo,” Bai Nanxing suddenly asked, “what class do we have this afternoon?”
Yan Mo, who was still lost in thought, snapped back to reality. He thought for a moment and said, “PE. Why are you asking? Do you have a work shift this afternoon?”
Yan Mo knew about Bai Nanxing’s part-time job. He worked as a waiter in a bar near the school. Whenever he had free time, Bai Nanxing basically stayed at the bar.
But reasonably speaking, even for an illegitimate son, wealthy families usually provided enough money to save face. Yan Mo couldn’t understand why Bai Nanxing, only a freshman, was so desperate to earn money.
And working so hard at it.
“Nanxing, have you been… very short on money lately?”
“No.”
Bai Nanxing didn’t understand why he was asking. “I was just asking what class we had. It has nothing to do with work.”
“That’s good.” Yan Mo seemed to remember something and suddenly became excited. “Right, speaking of PE, the class of that new transfer student senior also has PE this afternoon. Weren’t you worried I’d misjudge him? Since you’ll be there, you can help me check him out. How about it?”
Bai Nanxing didn’t say yes or no; he just gave a non-committal hum and quickened his pace toward the canteen.
During the noon break, Bai Nanxing specifically checked the school forum. Although Yan Mo was impulsive, his aesthetic taste was quite reliable. Simply put, he was a face-con (visual-oriented). If the other person wasn’t good-looking, they were basically dead to Yan Mo.
So, Bai Nanxing believed that the senior Yan Mo spoke of must have a very high level of attractiveness.
Adding in the adjectives used on the way, the person was at least at the level of a “department hunk.”
However, Bai Nanxing searched through all the related posts on the campus forum and couldn’t find a single clear photo of the guy’s face. They were either blurry or only showed his back. There wasn’t even a profile shot, making it impossible to see exactly what he looked like.
But judging from the back, the person was very tall, at least over 1.8 meters, with a model’s physique. His fashion sense was also excellent; even though the photos were blurry, they couldn’t hide the charm radiating from his body.
Across the bunk beds, Bai Nanxing sent Yan Mo a WeChat message.
Your taste is good this time.
Yan Mo was scrolling through his phone under his covers. Seeing the message Bai Nanxing suddenly sent, he didn’t catch on for a moment. He sat up and asked softly, “Nanxing, why are you suddenly sending me this?”
Bai Nanxing told him to look at his phone.
What you told me at noon—I went and checked. Not bad.
I told you I wasn’t lying!
Yan Mo lay back down and typed excitedly.
Nanxing, I’m telling you, that senior is really handsome! And he’s mixed-race. I don’t need to explain what mixed-race means, right!
So…?
So he’s even more handsome! You have no idea, when he walked through the school gate, it was like a model on a catwalk! The people around were just stunned! They almost screamed out loud!
Oh.
It wasn’t surprising that Bai Nanxing reacted this way. When he worked part-time at the bar, mixed-race faces were regulars. There were plenty who were even more handsome. If it was just about looks, it held no attraction for Bai Nanxing.
Yan Mo knew this, but he hadn’t been to bars and couldn’t empathize with Bai Nanxing. Usually, when he saw international exchange students at school, he would be amazed for days.
Much less this time, when the guy was in the same department.
I knew you’d react like that. I bet once you see him in person, you’ll end up just like me!
If he were an endangered species, maybe.
Is a handsome guy like this not considered an endangered species? Nanxing, don’t tell me your aesthetic standard is ‘the most handsome in the world!’ Oh wait, ‘the most handsome in the universe!’
Not really. And besides, for creatures outside of Earth—non-humans—their aesthetics are probably the opposite of humans.
Yan Mo realized he couldn’t win an argument against Bai Nanxing, so he simply gave up.
How about we make a bet?
No.
Nanxing, you’re scared!
I’m afraid you’ll lose even your pants.
The last time the two of them made a bet was a month ago. Yan Mo forgot what it was about exactly, but in short, he lost miserably and had to treat Bai Nanxing to meals for a month. He almost ran out of living expenses.
If it happened again, Yan Mo felt he would most likely be eating plain steamed buns for a month. Thinking about it, he decided to forget it.
Fine, you win.
