My Boss Always Wants to Join My Family - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Fruit Candy (1)
The tepid sunlight surged through the clouds, silently climbing over the windowsill and falling into the folds of the stacked quilts.
Clothes were piled messily on the floor, and the bedding was wrinkled. Lu Yue felt a bit warm from the sun’s rays and turned over with a mumble.
Yesterday was the first time she had gone to a bar to pick up a woman. To bolster her courage, she had a few cocktails, but accidentally overdid it.
Her head was dizzy. After struggling to take two steps, she had collapsed into a familiar embrace.
She didn’t hear clearly what the other person said.
The person in her arms had a very slender waist and very long hair. Her collar had been buttoned all the way to the top, but Lu Yue had unceremoniously yanked several buttons loose.
Buried against the other woman’s shoulder, with a faint scent of mint lingering around her nose, Lu Yue had nuzzled against the skin beneath her fingertips like a kitten—skin that felt fine and soft.
…And then what happened?
Lu Yue woke herself up with a start. She snapped her eyes open, flung the quilt aside, and rolled out of bed.
The moment her toes touched the floor, her body weakened uncontrollably, and she fell to the ground with a thud, landing on her knees.
Lu Yue’s eyes welled up with redness from the impact. She hurriedly covered her mouth and bit down hard on herself several times to keep from crying out.
Right behind her, on the large bed, slept another person.
The woman was curled up slightly, her long, dark hair scattered about. Half of her face was buried in the pillow. With her dense eyelashes and a bridge of the nose that tilted up elegantly, she looked like a beauty carved from white jade.
She wasn’t sleeping very peacefully; her long lashes trembled slightly, and her breathing was light and thin. Her long fingers rested atop the quilt; beneath her pale skin, one could faintly see the tracings of blue veins.
Lu Yue took a deep breath and used the edge of the bed to pull herself up. Amidst the mess on the floor, she found her carefully selected “little red dress” and locked herself in the bathroom.
Cold water splashed onto her face. Lu Yue looked at the person in the mirror and finally regained her composure.
Memories flooded back into her mind like a tide. Although they were still a bit blurry, they were enough to piece together what happened last night.
The rims of Lu Yue’s ears turned red. She raised her hands to cover her face.
The matter was simple: she had studied abroad for four years, nearly turning herself into a fool. Finally, after returning to her home country, she had bragged to her younger brother, saying she was going to let loose—
“Drinking, hitting the bars, sleeping with every woman.”
That was how she had boasted to her brother.
As luck would have it, the very first time she went to a bar, she ran into her ex-girlfriend. In a muddle, she was taken home by her, and in a muddle, she slept with her.
The key was… she actually enjoyed it!!!
She even felt a bit like it wasn’t enough!!
Thinking of this, Lu Yue’s face suddenly turned crimson.
She gritted her teeth in frustration, hammered her fist against the mirror once, and cursed in a low voice.
Because she had been drunk and her consciousness wasn’t very clear, Zhou Ran had definitely held the initiative last night.
Lu Yue resigned herself to her bad luck, comforting herself by pretending she had just been bitten by a dog—it was no big deal.
Being on the bottom was one thing, but in her memory, that person with reddened eyes and a soft, waxy voice, who hoarsely begged Zhou Ran not to go, begged her for one more time, and was ultimately driven to tears…
Just who was that?!
Backtrack to one day ago. People were coming and going at Nancheng Airport. The giant roar of engines was isolated outside the dome, leaving only a dull thrumming.
Lu Qian held a sign, leaning against a railing, swinging his legs idly and yawning.
The plane was delayed. He had waited for a full two hours until his feet were numb and his legs were weak. The chocolates he’d bought as a gift were nearly turning to liquid, and his sister still hadn’t come out.
Finally, a wave of people surged out of the gate. Lu Qian stood on his tiptoes to look. Suddenly, he spotted a familiar figure in the crowd and couldn’t help but be overjoyed.
The person was wearing a crisp beige coat. Her figure was slender and tall as she pushed two giant suitcases. Her curly hair fell across her shoulders, revealing a section of her soft, white neck.
Lu Qian straightened up, waved the sign in his hand vigorously, and shouted:
“—Sister, welcome back!!”
The young man’s shout pierced the sky, startling several people nearby. Lu Yue paused, lifted her sunglasses with her hand, arched an eyebrow, and smiled at him.
Her eyelashes were thick and long, and her eyes were a very clean black. When she smiled, a small dimple appeared on her cheek, breaking through her previously mature aura and adding a hint of childishness.
“Long time no see,” Lu Yue folded her sunglasses and hung them casually from her collar. She raised her hand to pat Lu Qian’s head. “The Second Young Master is so idle that he actually has time to pick me up?”
Lu Qian stuffed the chocolate into Lu Yue’s hands and helped take one of the suitcases. “A sister as beautiful as a flower and like a celestial being is coming back—how could I not come to pick her up!”
“Alright, alright, stop being so glib,” Lu Yue laughed. “I know you have a sweet tongue. Where’s the car parked?”
The two of them took a suitcase each and pushed them toward the airport parking lot. The wheels rumbled over the ground with a steady clatter-clatter until they stopped in front of a white Mercedes.
“I heard from Mom that you were doing an internship,” Lu Yue said as she clicked her seatbelt and loosened her collar. “Are you really this idle?”
Lu Qian gripped the steering wheel with a proud expression. “President Zhang went on his honeymoon and gave me two weeks off.”
So that was it. Lu Yue shrugged and tapped the GPS, asking, “Where did you set it for?”
Lu Qian was confused:
“Home, of course. Where else would we go?”
Lu Yue gave a light laugh, wagged her finger, and said with a meaningful voice, “Pull over first. Help me search for a place.”
Lu Qian was stunned, but he obediently did as he was told. He glanced at his sister, not quite understanding what she wanted to do.
Lu Yue was unhurried as she said leisurely, “Has Sister ever told you what my motto in life is?”
Lu Qian was silent for a moment, then said hesitantly, “Study hard, improve every day, and chase down Zhou Ran?”
Lu Yue: “…”
“Get lost,” Lu Yue snapped. “Mention that name again and see if I don’t kick you out of the car!”
Lu Qian covered his head and begged for mercy. Lu Yue couldn’t be bothered to deal with him further. She cleared her throat and said solemnly, “That was the motto from high school. Today’s me is a completely new person.”
“To hell with Zhou Ran,” Lu Yue sneered. “I’m going to drink, hit the bars, and sleep with every woman in the world except for her!”
This outburst of grand ambition left Lu Qian dazed. It took him a long time to react: “But our country has over a billion people, among which…”
“A metaphor! It’s just a metaphor.” Lu Yue rubbed her brow. “So, do you have any recommendations for a same-sex bar?”
Lu Yue had quite a few requirements, listing them off seriously: “Not too many people, not too noisy, quiet and clean. It would be even better if they played some piano music.”
Lu Qian was miserable. “How would I know?”
“You don’t even know that,” Lu Yue said calmly as she took her phone and kept her head down. “What use are you?”
Lu Qian: “…”
He was only a junior in college this year, a pure young man who didn’t even have a partner. Where was he supposed to find a bar where his sister could hook up with and sleep with women?!
He originally thought that with such strict conditions, it was highly likely they wouldn’t find anything. To his surprise, after a quick search, Lu Yue actually found a bar that fit perfectly.
The car stopped at the side of the road. Lu Yue took off her beige coat, applied some light makeup, grabbed a small handbag, and stepped out of the car in high heels.
Lu Qian was a bit worried. He rolled down the window and shouted, “Sister, do you want me to come pick you up?”
“Call me,” Lu Yue winked, her smile frivolous and charming. “If I don’t call you, then don’t worry about me.”
Lu Qian watched his sister walk into the bar, a thump in his heart giving him an ominous premonition.
If he remembered correctly, during the family reunion dinner for New Year’s, his sister had drunk a single glass of white liquor and collapsed onto the sofa unconscious.
Lu Yue carefully pushed open the door, causing the wind chimes to tinkle and spread a pleasant ringing sound.
The bar was called “Whisper.” There were only a few scattered customers inside. Piano music flowed like water, and the lights were shaped like candle flames, staining her cheeks with a layer of warm orange light.
Everything about Whisper perfectly matched Lu Yue’s imagination; it was as if it were tailor-made for her.
A few people noticed Lu Yue, but they only took a glance before looking away. Lu Yue walked inside with small steps and sat at the bar, her heart racing.
She had been too young in the beginning, and after going abroad, she had been smothered by coursework. Truly speaking, this was her first time in a bar.
Since she’d come this far, she absolutely could not retreat now.
Lu Yue leaned against the bar, feeling a bit restless. She tugged at her carefully chosen “woman-hooking, seductive little red dress” and whispered, “Hello.”
The bartender behind the counter shook a bottle, looked up, and smiled gently. “What would you like to order?”
“Can you recommend a few cocktails?” Lu Yue asked. “The ones with the highest concentration.”
The bartender looked at her for a few moments, feeling a bit sympathetic. “Are you sure?”
Lu Yue nodded. “I’m sure.”
The bartender sighed in her heart, turned around, and went to mix the drinks.
Perhaps because of her looks, Lu Yue had just sat down when a woman approached with a drink to flirt. In a panic, Lu Yue rejected her.
Watching the beautiful woman walk away, Lu Yue felt strangely guilty and could only secretly comfort herself: ‘It’s fine, I didn’t like her type anyway.’
But… what type did she like?
Lu Yue couldn’t figure it out herself. As she pondered, she raised her cocktail and drained it in one gulp under the bartender’s horrified gaze.
After several drinks in succession, the intoxication rushed to her brain. She was a bit dizzy, and her vision became hazy. Suddenly, she spotted a familiar figure.
The person was standing not far away. Her hair fell like black satin, and her collar was meticulously buttoned to the very top. Her expression was extremely cool, without a trace of a smile.
Ah, that is my ideal type.
Lu Yue stood up dizzily. Her figure was a bit unsteady as she staggered toward that person.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Lu Yue wobbled in front of her, reached out, grabbed her collar, and pulled her down with force.
The alcohol surged, and her reason was in a precarious state.
Lu Yue took the opportunity to tilt her head up. Her thin eyelids were stained a light red, and her eyes were softened by the alcohol. Her expression was frivolous and suggestive: “Miss Zhou.”
“It really has been a long time,” she murmured softly, her voice intimate and alluring. “Do you know what I regret most about these past few years?”
Lu Yue couldn’t even stand steadily, but her fingers gripped the collar and refused to let go. She leaned close to the other’s slender, thin ear and laughed softly.
The heat rushed into the ear, spreading a searing warmth.
“I regret it so much,” Lu Yue laughed brightly and said with a sigh, “—that back then, why didn’t I just sleep with you?”
