- Chapter 5 - The Best Way to Eat Ice Cream
After greeting the band members, Chen An left.
In the square, Luo Shiyu held onto his arm as they walked forward together.
Chen An, on the other hand, wore an expression of disbelief.
“All you did was push me, and yet you chased me all the way here just to apologize?”
Luo Shiyu lowered her head and softly murmured an “Mm.”
By now, she had figured out that Chen An’s limping wasn’t due to an injury—his leg had just gone numb.
Relieved, she also felt a sense of gratitude.
If she hadn’t chased after him, she might never have witnessed him singing tonight.
Compared to “Fairytale,” she felt that “You Are My Eyes” struck her soul even more deeply.
“Damn, you’re practically a bodhisattva—you’re way too kind.”
Chen An was genuinely surprised. Since losing his sight, this was the first time someone had treated him so well.
“Wait here.”
With that, Chen An gripped his white cane and carefully made his way back.
Luo Shiyu quickly followed. “Where are you going? Let me take you.”
“Heh, you’re so nice. I was thinking of making an exception tonight and treating you to ice cream.” Chen An smiled shyly.
He was quite familiar with the area—wherever he went, a tap of his cane told him everything he needed to know.
Hearing this, Luo Shiyu beamed. “I’ll take you there.”
“Okay.”
Five minutes later, the two sat by the roadside, each holding an ice cream.
“Normally, I only have ice cream once a month, but today, I’ll treat you.” Chen An took a small bite as he spoke.
Luo Shiyu blinked in confusion. “Only once a month?”
The ice cream was cheap—just four yuan each.
Chen An chuckled. “Yeah, my monthly allowance comes from odd jobs, so I have to budget carefully.”
Hearing this, Luo Shiyu’s nose tingled as she stared at the ice cream in her hand.
Something so trivial to her was considered a luxury by someone else—yet he was still willing to share it with her.
Sensing the somber mood, Chen An spoke again. “Do you know the best way to eat ice cream?”
Luo Shiyu froze, then instinctively shook her head.
When she didn’t respond, Chen An grinned. “Here, let me show you.”
He brought the ice cream to his lips and gave it a gentle lick.
“See? Like this. Don’t rush—take your time and lick it slowly.”
Luo Shiyu mimicked him, sticking out her tongue to give it a delicate lick.
“How is it? Tastes better, right?” Chen An asked.
“Seems like it.” Savoring the flavor, she licked it again.
But it didn’t feel satisfying enough. She glanced at Chen An, then opened her mouth and took a big bite.
Ah, this was much better—the feeling of fullness.
After finishing their ice creams, the two strolled along the roadside, slowly making their way back toward the school.
“Do you know how to sign up for ‘Rising Star’?”
Chen An suddenly asked. Since he couldn’t see, he needed someone else’s help to participate.
“Rising Star?” Luo Shiyu frowned in thought.
She had heard of the show—it was a new talent competition that had recently started.
“You want to join?”
Chen An nodded.
“Leave it to me—I’ll sign you up.” Luo Shiyu patted her chest confidently.
“Thank you so much. How about I treat you to a meal?” Chen An repeatedly expressed his gratitude, already mentally calculating how to tighten his budget to afford it.
“I’ll treat you instead. You can return the favor when you become a big star,” Luo Shiyu said with a smile, looking at him.
As the campus belle, this was her first time ever inviting someone to a meal—and to a guy at that.
“No, no,” Chen An waved his hands frantically. It wouldn’t be right to have someone help him and then have them pay for the meal too.
“Then consider it a debt. You can treat me when you have money,” Luo Shiyu suggested after some thought.
“Well…” Chen An hesitated, feeling his increasingly thin wallet before nodding reluctantly.
“Is ‘Rising Star’ a big stage?” he asked again.
“It’s decent enough,” Luo Shiyu replied after a moment’s consideration. “I’ll look it up when I get back.”
Chen An nodded while silently complaining about the system in his mind.
He clearly mistook the check-in location assigned by the system as some third-rate stage.
But whatever—once the task was complete, he’d just find an excuse to withdraw.
It wasn’t like it was some major platform anyway.
During their return to campus, however, a storm was brewing online.
A video was spreading like wildfire across major platforms, capturing countless netizens’ attention.
Titled “Blind Man Plays Piano—Original Song ‘You Are My Eyes’.”
“One song, and my heart is shattered.”
“This guy is so pitiful—so handsome yet blind.”
“Thought heaven gave him the gift of looks, only to take away his sight.”
“Pfft, you’re all so shallow. For a blind man to play piano like this, his talent must be insane.”
“Didn’t you notice his singing is incredible too?”
“Putting it that way, isn’t he the perfect man—handsome and talented?”
…
The video was shared endlessly, with countless likes. Many who heard the song while watching Chen An felt an ache in their chests.
Back in the Capital University girls’ dormitory,
Luo Shiyu tiptoed into the room and carefully climbed into bed after ensuring she hadn’t woken anyone.
She opened her laptop, searched for information about “Rising Star,” then entered the registration page to fill in Chen An’s details.
After finishing, she put on headphones, played the video she’d recorded at the scene, and drifted asleep to Chen An’s song.
The next morning,
Luo Shiyu awoke to being manhandled, greeted by Su Ling’s mischievous grin.
“Awake, little Luoluo? Spill it—where were you last night?”
“Get your hands off,” Luo Shiyu said, flushed, swatting away the groping hands on her chest.
“Mean. You wouldn’t be this well-endowed without me,” Su Ling pouted enviously.
Comparing herself to Luo Shiyu was just depressing.
“Seriously, what were you up to last night?”
She scrutinized Luo Shiyu intently.
Normally, Luo Shiyu returned to the dorm by 8 p.m. sharp, but last night she didn’t come back until midnight.
Had she found a boyfriend?
The thought made Su Ling sulk.
Little Luoluo was hers—no one else’s.
Rolling her eyes, Luo Shiyu checked her phone and gasped—it was almost 9 a.m.
She hurriedly got out of bed, ignoring Su Ling’s antics, and began getting ready.
She had promised to have dinner with Chen An today and didn’t want to be late.
Watching Luo Shiyu’s flustered appearance, Su Ling narrowed her eyes, sensing something unusual in the air.
