- Chapter 1 - Bullying a Blind Man — “Damn, I am Truly Despicable!"
At the end of July, the heat was at its peak.
On a Saturday, the vocal music classroom in the Art Department of Imperial University was empty due to no scheduled classes, except for a young man sitting in the back row.
Chen An lay slumped over the desk, his eyes tightly shut, when suddenly, he opened them.
However, upon closer inspection, one would notice his pupils couldn’t focus.
Chen An was blind. From the moment he transmigrated into this world half a year ago, he had never seen light.
Though he had long grown accustomed to darkness, his heart still yearned for the day he could see the world again.
Fortunately, along with his transmigration came a check-in system.
[Ding! Half-year check-in at Imperial University completed. Random rewards will now be distributed.]
Hearing the pleasant chime in his ears, Chen An tensed up.
His heart swelled with anticipation.
Please, let the reward be something that can cure my eyes.
[Ding! Rewards distributed. This time’s rewards: Master-level Piano Skills, King of Singing-level Vocal Technique, and the song “Fairytale.”]
Host: Chen An.
Age: 20.
Skills: Master-level Piano Skills, King of Singing-level Vocal Technique.
Owned Songs: “Fairytale.”
Next Check-in Location: Piano Classroom.
Reward: Random.
“Still nothing,” he sighed, shaking his head helplessly. But then he noticed the next check-in location.
The piano classroom, wasn’t that right next door to this one?
Since there were likely fewer people today, he could give it a try.
With that thought, Chen An picked up his white cane and carefully made his way to the piano classroom.
After successfully arriving, he sat down at one of the pianos.
Yet, even after several minutes, the check-in confirmation never came.
“Does it require me to play something first?” he wondered.
Just as he hesitated, two young women entered the piano classroom.
One of them had a stunning figure, curves in all the right places, slender where it mattered.
Paired with a pair of long, fair legs exposed beneath her skirt, her delicate skin looked as tempting as cream cake, making one want to take a bite.
“Luo Shiyu, your figure is so enviable. No wonder all those wolves were staring at you on the way here,” her companion said, wiping imaginary drool.
Honestly, even as a girl, she couldn’t resist.
Being roommates, she had even climbed into Luo Shiyu’s bed more than a few times.
Slurp slurp.
“Stop fooling around. Don’t forget why we’re here today,” Luo Shiyu said, pushing Su Ling lightly with her slender fingers.
“Hehe, I know, I know, Campus Belle Luo,” Su Ling grinned. Suddenly, she seemed to notice something and turned her head.
“See? I told you there are wolves everywhere. Even on a Saturday, there’s one lurking here.”
She subtly pointed at Chen An, who was sitting at a piano.
His eyes were fixed on the two of them, or more accurately, on Luo Shiyu’s long legs.
Luo Shiyu also noticed his gaze and frowned slightly.
Though she was used to being stared at in public, this was the first time someone had ogled her legs so blatantly.
“This is too much. He’s still staring!” Su Ling puffed her cheeks and was about to confront him when Luo Shiyu grabbed her arm to stop her.
She shook her head, “Don’t be impulsive, let me handle this.”
With that, she turned towards Chen An’s direction and said, “Classmate, it’s impolite to keep staring.”
Chen An was currently frowning, hesitating whether to play a piece, and automatically tuned out the voice in his ears.
He was blind, what was there to stare at? They must be talking to someone else.
“Damn, he’s even frowning. Is he unhappy about being called out?” Seeing Chen An’s furrowed brows, even the usually good-tempered Luo Shiyu felt a surge of anger, let alone Su Ling.
“Classmate, that’s going too far,” Su Ling couldn’t help but raise her voice.
Yet Chen An remained unmoved, his eyes fixed ahead without the slightest shift, which darkened Luo Shiyu’s expression as she strode forward.
After so many warnings, he was still staring? This was beyond disrespectful. Did he think she wouldn’t lose her temper just because she was the campus belle?
Seeing this, Su Ling quickly jogged after her.
When they reached the piano where Chen An was seated, seemingly oblivious to the commotion, a pair of slender hands suddenly shoved him.
Losing his balance, Chen An toppled backward and fell to the ground.
“Hmph, serves you right for ogling our little Luo,” Su Ling sneered, flipping him the middle finger.
Luo Shiyu also felt a vindictive satisfaction. Sometimes, people like this deserved harsh treatment.
But just as the two were about to leave, Luo Shiyu caught a glimpse of Chen An out of the corner of her eye.
He was sitting on the floor, panic-stricken, his hands frantically groping around his surroundings, his movements unmistakably like those of a blind person.
“Luo Shiyu, look!” Su Ling gasped, tugging at her sleeve and pointing to a black cane leaning against the piano.
“Where’s the cane? I swear it was right here!”
As they stood frozen, Chen An continued feeling around, clearly searching for his white cane.
“What… what have I done?” Luo Shiyu was stunned.
She had just pushed someone, a visually impaired person, no less.
I’m such a horrible person.
Luo Shiyu wanted to slap herself twice over.
Overwhelmed with guilt, she rushed to help Chen An up and handed him the cane.
“Thank you. You’re really kind,” Chen An murmured softly as he accepted it.
As for who had pushed him, he didn’t dwell on it. Over the past six months, he’d endured plenty of subtle bullying.
Probably just another prankster.
But when Luo Shiyu heard him thank her, the weight of her guilt nearly crushed her.
The self-reproach pierced her like arrows, and she wished she could write a thousand-word apology to atone.
I’m such a horrible person.
“N-no problem. Be careful,” she stammered, her face burning as she gently helped him sit back down.
Hearing the gentle, soothing voice, Chen An grew even more bashful and smiled faintly.
“Thanks to you. Last time I lost my cane, it took me forever to find it.”
At these words, Luo Shiyu’s nose stung, and she almost buried her face in her chest.
Luo Shiyu, look at what you’ve done.
“Wahh, Luo Shiyu, I’ve never felt like such a terrible person before,” Su Ling whispered beside her, equally remorseful. Remembering her earlier words, she wanted to punch herself twice.
Hearing no sound around him, Chen An thought the two had left. He let out a soft sigh and placed his fingers on the piano keys.
Since the system had been silent for so long, he might as well try playing a piece.
