Misty Nights in Hong Kong - Chapter 23
Take a Good Look, Who Do You Think I Am?
The men were still harassing Li Lin when Gu Xiangsi strode over with her bag, calling out firmly, “Li Lin!”
One of the men spotted Gu Xiangsi and immediately leered at her, eyeing her figure and outfit before grinning and stepping closer.
“Hey, gorgeous, why don’t you come play with us? Damn, you’re hot.”
As he spoke, his hand reached out toward her.
Gu Xiangsi was ready. With a sharp crack, the stun baton in her hand flashed, jamming straight into the man.
The two tattooed men convulsed from the shock, staggering back half a step as their grip on Li Lin loosened involuntarily.
Gu Xiangsi immediately bent down to support Li Lin. “Can you walk?”
Li Lin bit her lip and nodded.
“Fuck! You bitch! You think we won’t kill you?” one of the tattooed men snarled, furious.
“Go ahead and try! Do you even know whose territory this is?” Gu Xiangsi lifted her chin, deliberately putting on a fearless front and it actually worked, intimidating them just enough.
She tightened her grip on Li Lin’s hand and hurried away.
When Fu Sinian emerged from around the corner, his gaze first landed on a power bank lying on the carpet before turning toward the two tattooed men.
The look in his eyes was unmistakable, pure, unrestrained lethality.
After changing back into her own clothes, Gu Xiangsi handed Li Lin a trench coat to drape over herself.
“What happened to you?” she couldn’t help but ask while waiting for a cab.
Li Lin lowered her head, her voice trembling as she explained.
It turned out her parents were also gambling addicts, and with a younger brother to care for, they had racked up a massive debt. In desperation, they had introduced her to their creditors, intending to use her as collateral.
As Gu Xiangsi listened, her fists clenched, her eyes swirling with heartache and an unspoken sense of kinship.
Wasn’t her own situation just as bad?
Her uncle and aunt were like vampires, always trying to squeeze something out of her.
Gu Xiangsi pulled a tissue from her bag and handed it over, her voice steady but heavy. “You’re an adult now. You have the right to say no to them.”
She paused, then took out a card from her bag. “There’s 100,000 in here, it’s not much, but consider it a loan. Confront your parents, move out, rent your own place, and save up. Or quit your job for now, find somewhere to hide for a while, and don’t let them find you.”
“I can’t take your money,” Li Lin immediately pushed the card back, her tone resolute.
“Listen to me,” Gu Xiangsi pressed her hand firmly. “Your parents failed today, but they’ll definitely try again. If they really sell you off, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”
“But-”
“That document you sent me last time saved me. I never even got to thank you properly.”
Li Lin bit her lip, her eyes reddening again.
Gu Xiangsi gave her a few more instructions, telling her not to go home tonight and to find a hotel instead.
Only after Li Lin nodded and got into the cab did Gu Xiangsi finally turn away, only to spot several men lurking not far away, watching suspiciously.
With no taxis in sight, Gu Xiangsi had no choice but to quicken her pace down the sidewalk.
But after only a short while, she suddenly felt dizzy. November should have been chilly, yet an inexplicable wave of heat prickled over her.
Just as she was wondering what was wrong, the sound of footsteps behind her grew closer.
Panicked, she fumbled for her phone and the first person who flashed through her mind was Fu Sinian.
Her fingers trembled as she scrolled through her contacts, finally finding his number. But just as she reached the intersection, someone spoke up from behind.
“Are you Gu Xiangsi?”
She spun around to find three or four men closing in on her.
“Song Hefan, he’s your brother, right?”
One of the men glared at her, his tone sharp and hostile.
Gu Xiangsi’s fingers dug into her palms, her nails nearly drawing blood. She shook her head slightly, forcing herself to stay lucid.
Lifting her gaze, she met their brazen stares as their eyes roamed over her with undisguised scrutiny.
Clutching her phone behind her back, she kept her voice steady. “Did my brother borrow money from you again?”
“So, you already know.”
The leader of the group sneered. “He sold you to us.”
“How much?”
“A million.”
“Sounds exactly like something he’d do.”
Gu Xiangsi curled her lips in a mocking smile.
Pausing, she looked at them squarely and enunciated each word. “Didn’t you know? I still owe the heir of Sinian Group five million.”
“If you dare lay a finger on me, I guarantee he won’t let you off easy.”
“Pretty girl.”
The leader smirked lazily, his gaze lingering on her. “This intersection is deserted, not even a stray dog in sight.”
He took half a step closer, his voice dripping with sleaze. “We won’t make it hard for you. Spend one night with each of us, and we’ll call it even for that million. How’s that?”
A man in a floral shirt reached out to grab her waist.
Gu Xiangsi swung her bag to block him, then swiftly pulled a stun gun from it, her voice trembling but fierce. “Don’t push me!”
The man studied her, noticing the unnatural flush on her cheeks, and suddenly laughed. “Oh? Did you just crawl out of some club? Someone slipped you something, didn’t they?”
His eyes gleamed with anticipation. “This makes things easier. You don’t have much fight left in you. Boys, let’s go!”
With that, he knocked the stun gun from her hand, sending it clattering to the ground.
Gu Xiangsi staggered back from the shove, her vision swimming as dizziness overwhelmed her.
In the chaos, she suddenly yanked the jade hairpin from her bun and pressed its sharp tip against her own throat.
Her face was flushed from the drugs, but her eyes burned with desperate resolve. “Try it. If I die here, you won’t walk away clean either!”
“A rose with thorns, huh? We like our women feisty!”
The leader grinned viciously. “Even if you stab yourself, what’s a little blood? We’ll still-”
Before he could finish, he lunged to snatch the hairpin from her.
Suddenly, a figure streaked forward and delivered a brutal kick to the man’s chest.
With a loud thud, the man howled as he hit the ground, writhing in pain. “Who the hell are you? You dare interfere?”
Gu Xiangsi’s vision blurred, her surroundings doubling and tripling. All she could make out was a familiar figure in a suit moving before her.
When the man turned, she barely managed to focus.
Fu Sinian.
She swayed, convinced she was hallucinating.
“What, don’t recognize me?”
Fu Sinian’s voice sounded beside her as he swept her into his arms, pulling her close.
His gaze fell on the hairpin pressed to her neck, and his brow furrowed. He plucked it from her grip without hesitation.
“Even with yourself, you’re this ruthless?”
Gu Xiangsi seemed to instantly lose all her strength, collapsing limply into Fu Sinian’s embrace, completely relaxed.
He instinctively tightened his arms, increasing the pressure around her waist to steady her securely.
On the other side, the men had already helped their fallen companion up. One of them blustered with false bravado, “Don’t think just because you’re dressed all fancy that we’re scared of you!”
Fu Sinian didn’t even lift his eyelids, merely instructing his assistant Xiao Li behind him, “Break them. Then send them in.”
“Yes, sir.”
Assistant Li responded and stepped forward.
Within a few moves, he had all of them knocked to the ground. Then, with a signal to his subordinates, he had them firmly restrained.
Fu Sinian lowered his gaze to the woman in his arms, his voice deepening. “Look closely. Who am I?”
