Misty Nights in Hong Kong - Chapter 19
Beg Me, and I’ll Help You!
“You wouldn’t dare.”
Sun Shangxiang held her head high, not the least bit ashamed of what she had done.
If you’re sick, go get treated!
Before Gu Xiangsi could even settle the score with her, Sun had come knocking on her own.
“Classmate Sun.”
Gu Xiangsi took a step forward, her aura instantly radiating.
Sun Shangxiang instinctively retreated half a step. “W-what do you think you’re doing?”
“You drugged me that day, and I still haven’t settled that debt with you!”
“Y-you… you have no proof anyway.”
Gu Xiangsi waved her phone with a hint of amusement in her tone. “Forgot to tell you, I recorded everything that night.”
“What do you think would happen if I handed this over to the police? Or maybe showed it to the class president you adore so much?”
Deliberately drawing out her words, Gu Xiangsi clicked her tongue twice, her gaze sweeping over Sun’s face before she continued lazily, “If word got out, how long do you think your carefully crafted perfect image would last?”
“You-!” Sun Shangxiang panicked, reaching out to snatch the phone. “Give it to me!”
Gu Xiangsi sidestepped her and looked her in the eye. “Apologize.”
Sun stiffened her neck. “In your dreams!”
“Fine.” Gu Xiangsi made a show of tapping her phone screen.
“Wait!” Sun blurted out in a panic, her head bowing even lower, her voice barely a whisper. “I-I’m sorry…”
“Sorry isn’t worth much.”
Remembering the 100,000-yuan shirt she still owed Fu Sinian, Gu Xiangsi’s eyes flickered before she met Sun’s gaze again, her tone blunt. “Compensation for my emotional distress and psychological trauma caused by that drink, two million.”
“What?!” Sun Shangxiang’s head snapped up, her voice cracking.
“Gu Xiangsi, are you out of your mind?!”
“Yep, I’m broke.” Gu Xiangsi arched a brow.
At worst, she could just report it to the police. They’d settle it privately anyway, and the compensation would end up being even higher.
Gu Xiangsi turned and walked a few steps when her phone pinged, a payment notification popped up.
The corner of her lips twitched imperceptibly. Just as she was about to pocket her phone, she collided with a solid chest again, stumbling slightly.
Rubbing her forehead with a hiss, she wondered how she’d managed to bump into someone twice in a row.
When she looked up, she froze.
The man loomed over her, his voice dripping with disdain. “Manager Gu, you really have a talent for… extortion, don’t you?”
Gu Xiangsi felt a headache coming on. Ever since their reunion, their encounters had grown more frequent.
She was afraid her heart wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer.
Clearing her throat to mask her irritation, she met his gaze. “President Fu… planning to tattle on me?”
Fu Sinian leaned against the corridor wall, his dark eyes boring into her, his tone laced with mockery. “Do you really think I care about such petty cash?”
“Of course not. There’s nothing President Fu could lack, except money.”
Gu Xiangsi replied matter-of-factly, “I owe you a 100,000-yuan shirt. I have to find a way to earn it back.”
“Hmph. You just made a clean 1.9 million profit. Seems like you’ve got a knack for business.”
Gu Xiangsi smirked. “Thanks for the compliment.”
Then she walked ahead.
After a few steps, she noticed Fu Sinian following her at a leisurely pace.
Just as she reached the private room and pushed the door open, Fu Sinian strode in ahead of her.
She stood frozen in the doorway. Inside, Sun Shangxiang, Li Hao, and an older man were already seated.
“President Fu, what brings you here?” Lu Liang raised a brow, his gaze flickering meaningfully toward Gu Xiangsi.
Fu Sinian didn’t respond, casually walking over to take a seat at the side.
Now it was Gu Xiangsi’s turn to feel awkward, her seat happened to be right next to Fu Sinian.
She had no choice but to walk over and sit down in her assigned spot.
Sun Bin turned his head to glance at Gu Xiangsi before looking at Zhao Niesen. “This must be the designer who’s been making waves at your company recently, right?”
Zhao Niesen smiled and nodded, chiming in, “That’s her. The blueprints she designed have even caught Lu Zong’s admiration. In fact, Lu Zong specifically sought her out.”
“Dad, Manager Gu is also a former classmate of mine and Hao’s.”
Hearing this, Sun Bin’s eyes flickered with amusement. “Oh? What a coincidence.”
“Exactly,” Sun Shangxiang interjected, raising an eyebrow at Gu Xiangsi. “She just squeezed two million out of me earlier.”
The moment these words were spoken, the private room fell into silence. Sensing the shift in atmosphere, Sun Bin turned to his daughter.
“Sweetheart, what’s going on?”
“Nothing, Dad,” Sun Shangxiang replied coolly. “Maybe Classmate Gu is just really short on money.”
She paused before adding, “I accidentally knocked her phone to the ground, and she just…”
Li Hao, who had been listening nearby, couldn’t hide his surprise as he looked at Gu Xiangsi.
The person he remembered wasn’t like this.
Several pairs of eyes turned toward Gu Xiangsi, filled with scrutiny and doubt.
Only the man beside her remained unperturbed, leisurely picking at his food with a faint smirk, as if enjoying the spectacle.
Gu Xiangsi knew she had miscalculated.
The so-called recording had been nothing but a bluff, she had merely taken the opportunity to extort some money from Sun Shangxiang.
And she had even deleted the supposed recording right in front of her.
But now, how was she supposed to smooth things over?
As she kept her head lowered in silence, the expressions around her grew increasingly strange.
Sun Bin’s face darkened. “I had no idea my daughter could be extorted like this. Manager Gu, tell me, should I call the police?”
“President Sun.”
Zhao Niesen, sensing the tension, quickly stepped in to mediate. “It’s all a misunderstanding! Didn’t you previously want Manager Gu to design the interior blueprints for your daughter and son-in-law? How about she does a set for free, and we’ll consider the matter settled. What do you think?”
“She’s not the only designer out there.”
Sun Shangxiang crossed her arms, her eyes full of challenge.
The implication was clear, she wasn’t going to let this go.
Sun Bin pulled out his phone, ready to call the police, while Lu Liang’s gaze remained fixed on Fu Sinian.
He found it interesting, would the so-called crown prince of Hong Kong’s elite circles really stay indifferent?
At that moment, Fu Sinian set down his chopsticks, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and picked up his phone, swiftly typing a message to someone.
Meanwhile, Sun Bin had already finished his call, and everyone’s attention was still on Gu Xiangsi.
“Classmate Sun, are you sure I only asked for two million because you dropped my phone?”
Gu Xiangsi’s tone was calm.
“What else could it be?” Sun Shangxiang scoffed.
“Perhaps the restaurant has surveillance footage. We could check and see what really happened.”
Gu Xiangsi remained composed.
“Oh, Classmate Gu, you probably don’t know, my dad is the largest shareholder here. The cameras just happened to break recently.”
Sun Shangxiang shot her a threatening look.
Sun Bin nodded dotingly, confirming that the surveillance had indeed malfunctioned days ago.
Gu Xiangsi’s heart sank, she had misjudged the situation.
Just then, her phone pinged with a notification.
[Beg me, and I’ll help you.]
Gu Xiangsi’s head suddenly felt as if it had been struck hard by something. In the haze, fragments of memories surged forth without warning.
“Want it? Beg me.”
No matter how she looked at it, he was clearly doing this on purpose.
Memories truly are disobedient prisoners.
