Misty Nights in Hong Kong - Chapter 14
Bear the Consequences
Fu Sinian’s thumb traced the rim of his glass, the clinking of ice cubes sharp and jarring.
“If anyone’s doing the dumping, it’s me.”
“See? You’re still bitter. Back then, it was her who-”
Fu Sinian turned his head, his icy glare piercing straight to the bone. The man immediately raised his hands in surrender. “Forget I said anything.”
After a moment of thought, he offered a suggestion: “Why not win her back first, then dump her to get even? The guys can help you-”
“Try it.”
Even if anyone were to lay a hand on her, he was the only one allowed to bully her.
The glass slammed onto the table, amber liquor splashing over the edge.
He leaned back into the sofa, closing his eyes and falling silent, though the furrow between his brows remained tightly knotted.
The night breeze carried the briny scent of the sea.
As she gazed at the neon-lit spectacle of Victoria Harbour, Gu Xiangsi found herself lost in memories, today was the anniversary of the day she and Fu Sinian had gotten together.
Suddenly, a woman’s voice cut through the air behind her.
“Classmate Gu, enjoying the night, are we?”
Gu Xiangsi took half a step back, her eyes flickering over the menacing tattoos snaking down the arms of the two men flanking the speaker.
A chill crawled up her spine. Clutching her handbag tightly, her voice turned low and guarded. “Sun Shangxiang, what do you want?”
Sun Shangxiang swirled her glass, smirking coldly. “Just wanted to treat Classmate Gu to a special drink.”
Before the words had fully left her mouth, the two men seized Gu Xiangsi’s wrists, forcing the pungent liquor down her throat.
Gu Xiangsi thrashed violently, her white T-shirt quickly staining with dark splotches of alcohol, the acrid burn mixing with the sharp taste.
“If it weren’t for you back then, the class president would’ve been mine!”
Sun Shangxiang gripped her chin, nails digging crescent-shaped marks into her skin. “Tonight, I’ll teach you what happens to women who steal other people’s men!”
Gu Xiangsi coughed violently, her throat burning. “There was nothing between me and the class president. I never liked him.”
“Playing innocent now?” Sun Shangxiang sneered. “Drink the rest like a good girl, and I’ll make sure they take good care of you.”
Gu Xiangsi stared at the glass in her hand, her gaze flickering. Then, she nodded.
The men loosened their grip.
In a flash, she snatched the glass, twisted Sun Shangxiang’s chin, and hissed, “You drink it!”
Sun Shangxiang choked, her eyes reddening. Before she could recover, Gu Xiangsi’s icy fingers clamped around the back of her neck.
With a sharp crack, Gu Xiangsi smashed the glass against the railing, pressing a jagged shard to Sun Shangxiang’s throat. Her voice was steel. “Take one step closer, and I’ll drag her down with me!”
The two men exchanged glances. They’d been paid, but not enough to risk a murder. Hesitating, they retreated.
Seizing the moment, Gu Xiangsi shoved Sun Shangxiang forward, stumbling back toward the door before bolting unsteadily down the hallway.
Her head spun, her vision swimming. She collided with a solid chest.
A voice above her asked, “You alright?”
She forced her gaze upward, barely registering the man’s words: “Gu Xiangsi?”
She shook her head, but the world remained a blur. She couldn’t place him.
Duan Jingwen studied her flushed cheeks, his expression darkening. “What’s wrong with you?”
Gu Xiangsi swayed, her voice faint. “…Drugged.”
Just then, Sun Shangxiang’s furious shrieks echoed from the end of the hall. “Find her, now!”
Duan Jingwen cursed under his breath, pulling her close. “I sat in front of you in high school. Trust me.”
He steered her into a nearby private room, where Jiang Liangchen’s teasing voice rang out. “Fall into the toilet? And you brought back a-”
His words died as he took in Gu Xiangsi’s disheveled state, her clothes soaked, her gaze unfocused. He shot to his feet.
“Holy shit! Miss Gu?”
The man in the shadows of the sofa opened his eyes at the sound. As Gu Xiangsi was helped to turn around, she collided directly with those deep, fathomless eyes, her muddled consciousness didn’t even think to avoid them.
Fu Sinian’s entire body radiated a chilling pressure, his face darkening as if it could drip water.
Jiang Liangchen, seeing the situation, hurriedly waved the others away. “Everyone, go play pool over there!”
Duan Jingwen helped Gu Xiangsi sit on the sofa. She tugged restlessly at her trench coat, her body burning with discomfort, when suddenly a well-defined hand reached out and firmly pressed her down.
“I’m so hot! Let go!”
Gu Xiangsi slapped the hand away, her drunken voice thick with irritation.
Fu Sinian stared at her flushed cheeks, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly before his expression turned icy as he looked at Duan Jingwen.
“What happened?”
“Seems like she was drugged. A woman was chasing her.”
As soon as Duan Jingwen finished speaking, Jiang Liangchen had already grabbed his walkie-talkie and roared, “Someone’s playing dirty in my territory? Find them!”
When only the two of them remained in the private room, Gu Xiangsi stared at the hand restraining her before suddenly leaning down and biting it hard.
Fu Sinian grunted in pain, rubbing the bleeding bite mark as he gritted his teeth. “Gu Xiangsi, are you a damn dog?”
She tilted her head closer, the scent of alcohol mixed with a faint, elusive fragrance of her body wafting toward him, her gaze dazed.
“How do you know my name?”
Fu Sinian’s peach-blossom eyes were cold as ice, yet the corners of his lips suddenly curled. He tapped his knee lightly with a finger. “Want to know? Sit here.”
Gu Xiangsi nodded hazily, swaying as she stood up, then yanked off her wine-stained trench coat and tossed it aside without a second thought.
Straddling his lap, she tilted her head, studying his features, her fingertips unconsciously tracing the bridge of his nose. “You look… weirdly good.”
Her shirt collar had loosened, revealing a small patch of fair skin. Fu Sinian’s Adam’s apple bobbed again before he abruptly seized her restless wrist.
“Gu Xiangsi.”
He leaned in close, his breath brushing against her feverish cheek. “Look carefully. Who am I?”
“So hot… I want to go home…”
Fu Sinian’s body stiffened abruptly, his muscles tensing like a fully drawn bow.
Her knee accidentally bumped against an awkward spot. Fu Sinian’s grip tightened on her thigh. “Doing this on purpose?” Yet the veins on the back of his hand stood out as he instinctively cupped her hips to keep her from falling.
Realizing his own actions, he frowned, his voice cold and hard. “Sit properly.”
The woman let out a displeased hum before her body tilted, threatening to slide right off his lap.
Fu Sinian reacted almost instinctively, his arm snapping around her waist and yanking her back into his embrace.
“…!”
His breathing hitched slightly, his Adam’s apple moving again.
Gu Xiangsi squirmed uncomfortably in his tight hold, lifting her head in a daze. Her damp eyes met his, her voice soft and plaintive. “…You’re being mean to me?”
Fu Sinian’s jaw clenched as he stared at her flushed cheeks and slightly parted lips, his gaze darkening.
Gritting his teeth, his voice dropped low and dangerous. “…Keep moving, and you’ll face the consequences.”
Yet his hand remained firmly locked around her waist, showing no intention of letting go.
Just then, the door to the private room swung open. Fu Sinian grabbed his suit jacket and wrapped it around her, his arm tightening around her restless waist.
Outside, there was the sound of a scuffle. Jiang Liangchen had someone drag Sun Shangxiang in by the collar and throw her to the ground, while two tattooed men knelt nearby, trembling.
“She paid us! Told us to drug her and film it to send to the class group…”
The person in his arms was still squirming unconsciously. The moment Fu Sinian heard those words, the temperature around him plummeted.
“Drugged? And then sleep with her?”
His voice was low, almost like a sigh, yet it instantly made the air in the room feel heavier.
His gaze slowly swept over the two thugs kneeling on the floor before finally settling on Sun Shangxiang’s deathly pale face.
Sun Shangxiang’s voice trembled, her carefully styled curls now disheveled and sticking to her face. “What is she to you?…”
“Who she is doesn’t matter.”
Fu Sinian’s voice suddenly sharpened. “Drugging someone’s drink? Filming it? Your heart is truly more poisonous than arsenic.”
“Take them to the police station.”
Sun Shangxiang panicked immediately. “You can’t touch me! I’m Sun Bin’s daughter…”
“Oh? Then notify him. I want to see his share transfer agreement by tomorrow morning.”
Sun Shangxiang shrieked, “You can’t do this! My father will kill me!”
With that, the group was gagged and dragged away.
Gu Xiangsi suddenly struggled to her feet. “I can walk…”
