Misty Nights in Hong Kong - Chapter 13
Still Thinking About Her?
Fu Sinian let out a derisive snort and averted his gaze.
“I can invest 500 million, but I want veto rights under the VIE structure and priority in leading the Series B funding.”
“Sinian, you’re really tightening your grip on control, aren’t you?” Lu Liang knew Fu Sinian was decisive and ruthless in business, but he hadn’t expected him to go all out just because he’d caught a whiff of his secret.
“Add another clause: the management team for the yacht club will be appointed by my side. At the current valuation, I want 65% equity.”
Lu Liang was stunned, this completely disregarded the friendship between their families.
“Sinian, I admit I was wrong, alright?”
Assistant Li: “…”
Young Master Lu, you’re not wrong, it’s just that the boss is in a bad mood.
Lu Liang shook his head, his gaze lingering meaningfully on Gu Xiangsi.
Seems like he’d stumbled upon something big.
Interesting.
Lu Wang suddenly received a call and stood up, offering Gu Xiangsi an apologetic smile. “Miss Gu, I’m so sorry, but there’s an urgent matter I need to attend to.”
Gu Xiangsi nodded understandingly.
“Hey, this lady looks really familiar.”
Gu Xiangsi turned to see a stranger staring at her. When her eyes landed on the person behind him, she froze.
Suppressing her emotions, she flashed a polite smile. “Sorry, but that’s a pretty lame pickup line.”
With that, she grabbed her bag and walked away without looking back.
Lu Liang pointed at himself, then glanced at Fu Sinian, who was smirking beside him, and exaggeratedly exclaimed, “A woman actually turned me down? With my looks?”
Assistant Li stifled a laugh and muttered under his breath, “Our boss is even better-looking.”
Fu Sinian strode past him without a second glance. “You can only fool young girls with that playboy act.”
He walked straight out of the restaurant, leaving Lu Liang gaping after him.
The one who’d come for the drama ended up being mocked instead.
As soon as Gu Xiangsi stepped out of the restaurant, she heard shouts of “Stop the thief!” nearby.
Following the noise, she saw a man frantically running toward her. Quick as lightning, she stuck out her foot to trip him, then kicked him squarely in the back.
“What the-!”
Lu Liang, who had just caught up to Fu Sinian, witnessed Gu Xiangsi send the thief stumbling to the ground with a single kick.
The man howled in pain, clutching his stomach as he curled up on the pavement.
Gu Xiangsi crouched down, yanked the bag from his arms, and said coldly, “You’re young, why not do something decent instead of stealing?”
“Thank you-”
“Manager Gu?” Li Lin panted as she ran up, her eyes lighting up when she recognized Gu Xiangsi.
“Li Lin.” Gu Xiangsi was equally surprised and quickly handed over the bag. “Check if anything’s missing!”
Li Lin inspected the bag and shook her head with a smile. “Nothing’s gone! Manager Gu, I really owe you this time!”
“Just call me Xiangsi.”
Suddenly remembering something, Li Lin quickly unlocked her phone. “Xiangsi, I just sent you a file, it might help.”
Gu Xiangsi opened the attachment, and her pupils constricted sharply.
She looked up at Li Lin, who immediately apologized, “I’m sorry, Xiangsi. I sit next to you at work and always see you researching, so I paid extra attention. Today, when Manager Chen called me into his office, I happened to see this…”
Li Lin twisted her fingers nervously, looking sheepish. “Last time, because I spoke out of turn, you got publicly confessed to by Director Shen. I’ve felt guilty ever since.”
“Thanks.”
Li Lin had urgent business to attend to and had to leave quickly. Gu Xiangsi glanced at the thief curled up on the ground. “I’ll handle this. You go ahead.”
She pulled out her phone to call the police, watching coldly as the man struggled and cursed.
As the thief was being taken away, he spat out a threat, “Just wait, I’ll make you pay for this.”
Gu Xiangsi smiled faintly, unbothered, before lowering her gaze back to the documents in her hands. The warmth in her expression vanished instantly, replaced by icy detachment.
Under the shade of a tree, Lu Liang’s jaw nearly dropped. “Oh my god! That Miss Gu is seriously badass!”
His eyes widened as he stared at the woman in the distance. “She looks so delicate, but that kick was brutal!”
Fu Sinian stood with one hand in his pocket, his eyes swirling with an unreadable emotion. The way Gu Xiangsi had decisively subdued the thief overlapped in his mind with the stubborn figure from his memories.
He shot Lu Liang a disdainful look. “Uncle Lu, your eyesight must be failing. How did the Lu family ever end up in your hands?”
“My dad, he really did go to get his eyes checked. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have taken advantage of this project!” His voice trailed off weakly.
Fu Sinian looked at him as if he were an idiot before shifting his gaze back to the woman ahead. She had already boarded a tram.
“Let’s go.” Fu Sinian turned and walked toward his parked car.
Around the corner, Sun Shangxiang watched the scene unfold, her gaze sharp enough to kill. If looks could murder, Gu Xiangsi would have died a hundred times over.
As she watched the thief being hauled into the police car, a scheme formed in her mind.
Back at the apartment, her roommate hadn’t returned yet. Gu Xiangsi wasted no time dialing the specialist’s number.
The voice on the other end sounded unexpectedly young, and the person readily agreed to collaborate with the doctors at the sanatorium to develop a treatment plan.
“Thank you so much! Once things settle down, I’ll treat you to a meal!”
Gu Xiangsi expressed her gratitude repeatedly before carefully inquiring about the treatment details. The specialist patiently answered every question, and only after hanging up did she finally exhale in relief.
She opened the attachment Li Lin had sent her, her throat tightening at the sight of the words “Qinghe Design” on the document.
This was the collaboration proposal between her father’s company and the Chen and Zhao families from years ago. Why did Chen Hui still have it? And how had those two families grown even more powerful after her father’s company collapsed?
There had to be more to this.
She regretted not staying at Chen Hui’s company and now she’d also offended Fu Sinian.
She turned on her computer to look up the Zhao Group, falling into deep thought when she saw their recruitment notice on the official website.
November 11th, Saturday.
Full Club Party Room, Tsim Sha Tsui.
The moment she pushed the door open, all eyes turned toward her.
Some were awestruck.
Gu Xiangsi was a natural beauty with striking bone structure, her cool demeanor carrying an air of classical elegance. When her expression was neutral, she exuded an untouchable aloofness. But when she smiled, her eyes curved, radiating a mix of innocence and allure.
Dressed in a beige trench coat, her jet-black hair cascading over her shoulders, she walked in with a composed smile.
Qin Shiwei was the first to wave. “Xiangsi, over here!” she called out warmly, gesturing for her to join them.
Most of the faces in the private room were unfamiliar to Gu Xiangsi, with only a few faintly recognizable from blurred memories.
The lively small talk soon devolved into gossip. As everyone caught up, the conversation inevitably circled back to Gu Xiangsi.
One pair of eyes in particular watched her with thinly veiled envy.
From the moment she entered, the guys’ gazes kept drifting her way just like back in the old days. It was tiresome.
“Classmate Gu, where are you working now? I heard you went abroad and are doing quite well?”
Gu Xiangsi looked up, her tone indifferent. “It’s you, Classmate Sun.”
“Seems like Classmate Gu has a good memory.”
Of course, she remembered her, Sun Shangxiang. Back in school, someone had organized a campus beauty pageant on the forum, and after placing second, Sun had constantly found ways to make trouble for her.
“Still looking for a job.”
“Come to our company! We have positions for everything!”
Several guys immediately jumped in with recommendations, and the private room erupted into a clamor of overlapping voices.
Beneath the table, Sun Shangxiang clenched her fists so tightly her nails nearly dug into her palms.
Watching everyone flock around Gu Xiangsi, jealousy burned fiercely in her chest.
Still so damn infuriating!
Gu Xiangsi simply said she had no grand ambitions and was already job hunting, politely declining the olive branches they extended.
After several rounds of drinks, the group grew tipsy, toasting and chatting boisterously.
Sun Shangxiang glared at Gu Xiangsi and Qin Shiwei, laughing together in the booth, her sharp nails digging deeper into her palms.
Suddenly, a sinister smile curled at the corners of her lips.
Just then, a man who introduced himself as an editor approached Qin Shiwei, exchanged a few words, greeted Gu Xiangsi, and then walked away with her.
Gu Xiangsi scanned the noisy crowd in the private room, the raucous laughter from the card table, the clinking of glasses and felt stifled. She stood up and headed outside for some fresh air.
Meanwhile, in another private room, Jiang Liangchen watched the empty liquor bottle in front of Fu Sinian and swallowed hard.
“Drinking this much and still thinking about her?”
“If you really want to chase her, just go. Since when does the young master of Hong Kong ever take a fall?”
