Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 59.1
The three thought they could rest peacefully until dawn. However, just before daybreak, Liu Fenyun suddenly jolted awake, shouting sleepily: “Quick, move! Qi Ran and the others are coming!”
The system’s warning tone rang repeatedly in her head like a wake-up alarm. Liu Fenyun tightly hugged the still slumbering white cat and grabbed Luo Binglun. Not even daring to release the Cloud Gazing Steed, she fled the cave on foot.
After a night’s rest and having eaten the spiritual energy rich black carp, both women had recovered their spirits. As they sprinted through the sandbars, they didn’t forget to use talismans to block the pursuing assassins.
Lian Yi hadn’t been woken by the shouting, but rather by the jolting. With a bit of morning grumpiness, she nipped Liu Fenyun and complained, “Why start traveling so early? I haven’t had enough sleep…”
“Qi Ran is right behind us,” Luo Binglun said coldly before Liu Fenyun could speak. “If we don’t hurry, we will all end up as food in her mouth.”
Lian Yi shuddered, instantly awake. Her claws hooked into the embroidery on Liu Fenyun’s clothes as she said softly, “I don’t want to be caught and eaten!”
Luo Binglun sneered and added, “Then stay put and don’t make a sound, lest you get a mouthful of sand.”
The cat indeed shrank back into Liu Fenyun’s embrace, obediently burying her face in the clothes without a word.
Liu Fenyun was somewhat surprised that their relationship had become closer overnight, but then she realized Lian Yi had been in high spirits last night and might have chatted with Luo Binglun, so she let it go.
To her, it was a good thing for Lian Yi and Luo Binglun to ease their tension.
Qi Ran and the assassins following her were very fast. Without demonic energy to boost her, Luo Binglun gradually fell behind Liu Fenyun. Seeing this, Liu Fenyun quickly doubled back to shove a handful of Light Body Talismans toward her, helping her apply them.
Thus, the two of them and a group of assassins engaged in a chase across the sandbars.
Liu Fenyun was responsible for leading the way. This time her goal was escape, she didn’t head for Phoenix Rest City but instead toward the Sage Deceiving Marsh where Yu Qingyue was trapped.
Though the swamp environment was harsh, it was ideal for hiding. If they could find Yu Qingyue sooner, they might have a chance to turn the tables.
With this thought, Liu Fenyun accelerated.
Strangely, Qi Ran and her group didn’t speed up either, trailing behind them in a half-pursuit, seemingly determined to wear them down. Liu Fenyun glanced at the system map and had the system calculate their arrival time at the marsh, realizing Luo Binglun might not hold out.
As the sun rose in the east, the sunlight cast over the sand, and the temperature began to climb. Both women were covered in sweat.
Lian Yi had intended to transform into her demon form to carry them, but Liu Fenyun remembered the two assassins with invisible bows and arrows. Although the “Feather Shield” granted by Yu Qingyue was still active, she didn’t want to risk Lian Yi without knowing how many arrows the enemy could fire.
Wood and Earth talismans were used in tandem, yet the distance between them and the assassins was gradually shrinking. Even with the Light Body Talismans, Luo Binglun’s body couldn’t withstand this much physical and spiritual drain.
Hearing the system’s warning about the dangerous proximity, Liu Fenyun gritted her teeth, shoved Lian Yi into Luo Binglun’s arms, crushed two Fire Talismans, and turned to meet the pursuers.
“Ah-Yun!!” Lian Yi refused to stay quietly in Luo Binglun’s arms, twisting to break free. Luo Binglun, however, set her down on the sand, yanked out the pendant from her neck, and after opening it, swallowed the demon core without hesitation.
A massive surge of demonic energy exploded within her, instantly spreading through her meridians to her limbs and gathering at her back. Luo Binglun’s brow furrowed in intense pain, but her footsteps didn’t stop as she lunged after Liu Fenyun.
She felt something moving on her back, she didn’t know if it was a mutation caused by her bones failing to withstand the energy but this demonic power increased her speed tenfold. She quickly caught up to Liu Fenyun, gave her a push, and spoke in a raspy voice that didn’t sound human: “Take the Seventh Highness and go first! I’ll stop them!”
Liu Fenyun instinctively wanted to say “No,” but the system quickly reported a combat power figure to her, telling her she could safely leave with Lian Yi.
“Detected that Luo Binglun’s spiritual energy has been completely overridden by demonic energy, suspected ingestion of a Great Demon’s Inner Core.” As Liu Fenyun retreated with half-doubts, the system took the time to scan Luo Binglun’s current physical condition so that it could provide effective treatment should she get injured.
Liu Fenyun was shocked: “Where did she get a Great Demon’s Inner Core?!”
The system indicated it didn’t know, then added: “This is a good thing for the Host. I swear by the Fire God, Luo Binglun in this state will not lose. Host, please proceed to the Sage Deceiving Marsh with peace of mind!”
“You know how to swear by the Fire God too?” Liu Fenyun tossed out a retort and returned to the original spot, soon seeing Lian Yi, who had enlarged her demon body.
“Get on! Show me the way!” The giant white cat crouched beside her. Once Liu Fenyun climbed on, she immediately bolted in the direction indicated.
As they successfully withdrew, Luo Binglun gave a sharp shout, turning gathered water orbs into tiny water dragons that resembled vines, controlling them all to surge toward Qi Ran.
Her change was too obvious, she was a different person from her aura to her appearance. Had Qi Ran not been so familiar with her, she might have doubted if this person was truly Luo Binglun.
“You actually swallowed Qingyuan’s demon core?!” Qi Ran dodged a water dragon and touched a bloody scratch on her face where the water had grazed her. Her lips curled. “You truly are a High Priest who can bend and stretch!”
Luo Binglun took an offensive stance. Her brow was still tightly furrowed, her teeth clenched, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Her pitch-black eyes had turned into azure demonic pupils.
In that moment, she felt a sudden, sharp pain in her back. As she cried out in pain, a pair of azure wings unfurled, instantly kicking up a sandstorm. The unintentionally released demonic pressure forced the assassins to their knees, those with lower cultivation vomited blood on the spot.
Qi Ran was a Great Demon who had grown up in the royal city of the Feather Clan. She was only forced back a few steps by the intimidation, but a strange look flashed in her eyes.
Logically, after a human consumes a demon core, their strength can indeed surge dozens or even hundreds of times. However, a human’s body is too fragile, they almost never can withstand the demonic energy within the core. When they can no longer hold it, they suffer backlash from the core or even explode and die instantly.
But she and the assassins had been fighting Luo Binglun for a good while. Just as it seemed Luo Binglun’s body was about to give out, a faint scent of lotus would appear out of nowhere, rapidly healing her injuries.
“Lady Qi Ran! We are no match for her!” the two assassins who had previously used invisible bows couldn’t help but say.
“Fire your arrows.” Qi Ran released a wave of demonic energy, half to protect everyone in front of her and the other half transferred to these two assassins.
The two assassins looked at each other and, with bitter smiles, drew their bows. But they were well aware that no matter how many invisible arrows they shot, they couldn’t wound the half-demon before them.
Her healing ability was simply too terrifying; even their leader, Qi Ran, couldn’t match it.
Despite their thoughts, the two obeyed and fired.
Unexpectedly, before the invisible arrows could even reach Luo Binglun, they were slapped away by a stroke of her wing, pinning them into the sand.
Luo Binglun clutched her chest, feeling her heart beating so violently it felt as if it would burst out. The pain continued to rack her body, but she had once undergone training for death warriors, this level of pain was within her tolerance.
After swallowing the core, she felt her senses become exceptionally sharp, she could even track Liu Fenyun’s location.
After knocking away five arrows in a row, Luo Binglun had roughly adapted to her new power. She suddenly let out a long cry and launched an attack at Qi Ran.
Qi Ran didn’t dare to clash with her head-on, nor did she want her to harm her subordinates. She immediately moved away from the assassins and summoned a long saber. Muttering an incantation, flames clung to the blade. With a swirl of her weapon, a sea of fire erupted around her.
Seeing Luo Binglun about to charge into the flames, the massive wings behind her back spread. She caught the wind and soared into the sky, bypassing the fire entirely, before diving down at high speed.
Qi Ran swung her saber in haste. The clanging of metal on metal was incessant, and woven together with the firelight was the water flow condensed by Luo Binglun.
Sword and saber clashed, fire and water merged. Neither side showed any sign of weakness.
Qi Ran rarely felt such frustration. Looking at the azure-eyed half-demon before her, she felt for a moment as if she were looking at Yu Qingyue. However, when Yu Qingyue fought her, she would still consider their bond as fellow disciples. Luo Binglun would not.
Once she decided to strike with her sword, she was intent on driving her enemy to death.
The water flow suddenly made a crack-crack sound. When Qi Ran snapped back to her senses, she found the water surrounding her had completely turned to ice! The solid ice trapped her within, and sharp spikes grew from the surface. In a moment of inattention, an ice spike pierced deep into her flesh, making her cry out in pain.
“Water overcomes fire.”
As she passed by with her sword sheathed, Luo Binglun calmly uttered those three words.
