Married the Rumored Scumbag A First and Then Fell in Love - Chapter 4
As the evening lights began to glow, Qin Zhi tapped her finger restlessly on the documents scattered across her desk. After a full day’s work, she had only managed to complete half of her usual workload, her mind still preoccupied with the doctor’s words.
She glanced sideways at her phone, picked it up, and then set it down again, her heart churning with unease. Chi Li was still in heat, having left for G City with her assistant at five that morning.
An Omega in heat could trigger heat in other Omegas and induce Rut in Alphas.
Therefore, the government mandated that Omegas in heat remain in home isolation.
Yet Chi Li had gone to work anyway.
Qin Zhi shook her head vigorously, trying to banish these unwanted emotions.
Their marriage was a contractual arrangement; she shouldn’t be worrying about such things. As this thought crossed her mind, the light in her eyes dimmed slightly.
She had always loathed the idea of arranged marriages. Once, she had dreamed of finding a gentle and kind Omega, someone she could spend her life with, loving each other as deeply as her mothers did. But her Mommy, disregarding her objections, had insisted on a political marriage with the Chi family. Forced to accept, Qin Zhi had tried to understand Chi Li, only to have her illusions shattered on their wedding night when she received a contract that shattered her romantic ideals.
Qin Zhi sighed inwardly and called her assistant. “Prepare some Omega suppressant patches and have them delivered to Ms. Chi.”
?!
Assistant Lin frowned at the closed door of the CEO’s office and called Chi Li’s assistant.
Upon learning that Chi Li was in G City, Assistant Lin was secretly astonished. His boss, who seemed utterly clueless about romance, had actually gone to the trouble of sending warmth across a thousand miles.
Clicking his tongue, he placed an online order using his phone, filling in the delivery address provided by Chi Li’s assistant.
About forty minutes later, Chi Li received Qin Zhi’s “concern.” Her eyes darkened as she stared at the entire box of Omega suppressant patches. She laughed in exasperation and tossed it straight into the trash.
“Hey, what are you doing? Why throw away perfectly good stuff like that? Aren’t you in heat right now?” Cheng Lan asked, her voice tinged with regret.
Cheng Lan was Chi Li’s manager and close friend. They had been classmates in college and was one of the few people who knew about Chi Li’s marriage.
“It’s infuriating.”
And how could it not be? Chi Li had been marked by Qin Zhi, yet all she received in return was a box of suppressant patches. Who could possibly accept that with good grace?
“Did your spouse send this?” Cheng Lan leaned in, her face alight with gossip. Chi Li laughed and pushed her away.
“Why are you being so nosy?”
“How can I not be curious? You just got married without telling us or even letting us meet her.”
“There’s nothing to see. We’ll just get divorced when the time comes.”
How can she be so cynical? The woman even sent me her most private Omega suppressant patches.
Chi Li scoffed inwardly. I need to get back and prepare a PR statement immediately. If Chi Li gets photographed by the paparazzi, I, as her manager, won’t be caught off guard.
“I don’t want to talk about her,” Chi Li said, picking up a wine glass and pouring a drink for Cheng Lan, then one for herself.
She raised her glass to Cheng Lan.
Taking a sip, the vibrant liquid tasted nothing like the tartness of grapes.
Why does it taste like white tea?
The intense white tea flavor instantly filled her mouth. Chi Li cursed Qin Zhi under her breath. Damn you, Qin Zhi!
Alpha pheromones take at least seven days to metabolize. Does that mean everything I eat for the next week will taste like white tea?
Losing her appetite, she slammed the glass onto the bar, the clatter making her brows furrow. She stood up and threw herself onto the sofa in a fit of frustration.
Cheng Lan nearly dropped her glass, startled by Chi Li’s sudden movement. “Are you crazy?”
“Crazy, crazy!” Chi Li muttered.
She wanted to call Qin Zhi and give her a piece of her mind right then and there, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. It would make her look petty.
Instead, she stewed in her own anger, feeling wronged.
Cheng Lan: “Seriously, when are you going to introduce us to your girl?”
Chi Li: “I don’t want to talk about her.”
Seeing Chi Li’s genuine reluctance, Cheng Lan frowned and glanced at the trash can. If Chi Li had no interest in this person, yet the other woman had sent such intimate items, she couldn’t help but worry.
She feared this woman might harm Chi Li in the future. Her precious “white cabbage” wasn’t for just any pig to root through.
Cheng Lan warned sternly, “You should really avoid her from now on.”
?!
The atmosphere suddenly turned serious.
Following Cheng Lan’s gaze, Chi Li noticed the suppressant patch she had just thrown away and realized the misunderstanding.
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.”
Cheng Lan nodded.
“Are you planning to stay at the hotel the whole time? I’ve already booked your leave.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Chi Li would have much preferred to be at home. During her heat, she didn’t need to work and could have been comfortably lounging on her soft bed instead of being stuck in this cold, impersonal hotel room. All thanks to Qin Zhi.
She reached up to touch the suppressant patch on her neck, but it wasn’t working very well.
I should have just stayed home, she thought. We’re married now, so what’s the harm in using a little of my pheromones? Besides, I’m the one getting taken advantage of here.
After seeing Cheng Lan off, Chi Li replaced her suppressant patch and lay listlessly on the bed, clutching the clothes she had stolen from the closet that morning.
Her eyes stared blankly at some distant point.
