Married the Rumored Scumbag A First and Then Fell in Love - Chapter 3
Qin Zhi hurried back and found Chi Li with her head buried in her arms, looking pitiful and helpless. Her heart clenched.
The aroma of mousse cake seemed to have grown hooks, frantically probing the edges of the Alpha’s gland. Qin Zhi’s breathing instantly became erratic, fine beads of sweat gathering on her forehead and trickling down her cheeks to her neck. Without a second thought, she strode forward and nudged Chi Li’s arm, her voice unsteady as she called out, “Chi Li.”
Her tone was urgent.
She had just finished settling all the guests and made a quick trip to her mother’s study, only to realize she had completely forgotten about Chi Li in the process.
The moment she remembered, she rushed back in a panic. Seeing Chi Li in this state filled her with overwhelming guilt.
“Chi Li, how are you feeling? Get up, I’ll take you to the hospital.” Qin Zhi’s grip on Chi Li’s arm tightened.
If she hadn’t forgotten about her, Chi Li wouldn’t be suffering like this. Perhaps influenced by the pheromones, Qin Zhi felt an unbearable sense of guilt. Watching Chi Li’s distress, she felt an overwhelming urge to take her pain away.
Chi Li let out a soft groan.
Qin Zhi leaned closer, but Chi Li remained silent, still lying face down.
“I’ll take you to the hospital now,” Qin Zhi said.
“No,” a muffled voice came from the crook of Chi Li’s arm.
“The reporters are gone. Let me take you,” Qin Zhi reached out and pulled Chi Li’s arm. Forced to lift her head, Chi Li revealed a tear-streaked face, like pear blossoms drenched in rain. Qin Zhi’s heart tightened, her breath catching in her throat.
She’s actually suffering this much. Forgetting everything else, she repeated, “I’ll take you to the hospital now.”
From the moment they married until now, Chi Li had always maintained the haughty demeanor of a pampered young lady. When had she ever shown such vulnerability?
Chi Li felt wronged and furious. This woman just abandoned me here, and now she’s pretending to care? I don’t need her concern!
She turned her head away, tears streaming down her face like they cost nothing. I don’t want to cry.
During their heat, Omegas become exceptionally emotionally sensitive. Even trivial matters that would normally be insignificant can be magnified to overwhelming proportions. Qin Zhi had learned this in physiology class during her school days. So, when she saw Chi Li crying, she wasn’t surprised, just a little helpless, unsure how to comfort her.
“D-don’t… don’t cry,” Qin Zhi stammered awkwardly after a long silence.
Chi Li fell silent, nearly overwhelmed by the feverish heat of her heat. She glared at Qin Zhi, her teeth grinding together audibly.
Never have any illusions about a Scum Alpha, she thought bitterly.
“Get me a suppressant patch,” Chi Li managed to say, the effort draining her remaining strength.
Qin Zhi finally remembered the patch in her pocket, pulled it out, and handed it to Chi Li. Uncertain if Chi Li could apply it herself, she tentatively asked, “Do you want me to help?”
Damn Scum Alpha, Chi Li cursed inwardly. She turned her head, exposing her gland. Her slender neck, like a piece of exquisite porcelain, was flushed with a faint blush, the reddened gland resembling a crimson stain on delicate porcelain. Qin Zhi tore open the suppressant patch and, with trembling hands, pressed it against Chi Li’s gland.
At that moment, Qin Zhi was grateful for her low sensitivity to pheromones. Any other Alpha would have been overwhelmed by the temptation.
“I still need to take you to the hospital,” Qin Zhi said.
Chi Li was about to refuse when Qin Zhi abruptly scooped her up in her arms. Chi Li struggled weakly, but with no strength left, she could only submit to being carried.
The Qin family’s servants had already cleared the guests from the reception hall, leaving it empty. Qin Zhi took the elevator directly to the underground parking garage, shoved Chi Li into the car with rough movements.
Chi Li glared at her stubbornly, refusing to speak, biting down hard on her lower lip.
Remembering Chi Li’s status, Qin Zhi called her assistant after getting into the car to arrange for a doctor in advance, wanting to avoid any complications.
The elevator in the hospital’s underground parking garage led directly to the reserved consultation room, allowing Qin Zhi to carry Chi Li straight there.
“President Qin, Madam’s condition isn’t serious. First-time marked Omegas tend to become particularly dependent on the Alpha who marked them. In Madam’s case, President Qin, releasing more pheromones to soothe her should help. This dependence will gradually lessen after her heat subsides.”
Qin Zhi’s face flushed crimson. This was her first time dealing with such a situation, and she had no idea what to do. Seeing Chi Li crying so bitterly earlier had thrown her into a panic. Now, thinking back, she felt incredibly embarrassed. Even sex education classes had covered these topics.
Chi Li turned her head away, refusing to make eye contact. But if you looked closely, the tips of her ears were also flushed red.
******
Back in their new apartment, Chi Li immediately retreated to the guest room, refusing to come out for hours.
It was already ten at night. Qin Zhi quickly cooked a bowl of noodles, though she usually didn’t eat at this hour. Chi Li hadn’t eaten dinner and was in her heat, so Qin Zhi worried she might get hungry during the night.
Qin Zhi knocked on the guest room door. “Chi Li, come out and have something to eat.”
There was no sound from inside. Qin Zhi even wondered if Chi Li had slipped out while she was cooking.
She knocked again, but still received no response.
Her fingers clenched and relaxed repeatedly. Finally, she reached for the doorknob and gently turned it.
The door was locked from the inside!
Chi Li hadn’t left. Qin Zhi immediately felt a wave of relief.
She knocked again, louder this time. “Chi Li!”
The sound was loud enough to wake even a sleeping person.
Remembering what the doctor had said earlier, Qin Zhi felt a growing sense of unease. Marked Omegas needed their Alpha’s pheromones to soothe them, and she had completely neglected Chi Li all day.
Guilt washed over her again.
Finding the spare key, Qin Zhi unlocked the door. The moment it swung open, the scent of mousse cake flooded the room, instantly triggering her pheromones. Her breathing grew heavy as she braced herself against the doorframe, struggling to steady her trembling body.
She was in heat again.
“Chi Li,” Qin Zhi called out tentatively.
Chi Li didn’t respond.
The room was dark, the lights off. As an Alpha, Qin Zhi’s vision was sharp even in the dimness. Her gaze landed precisely on the Omega, who was lying face down on the bed, wearing only a wine-red spaghetti-strap nightgown. Her snow-white back was exposed, and an Omega-specific suppressant patch lay beside her.
Qin Zhi’s heart tightened. She turned away. “Are you alright?”
The visual shock had been overwhelming. It took her a long moment to finally force out the words. Her gland, more honest than her mind, throbbed erratically, releasing a burst of white tea-scented pheromones that tangled fiercely with the mousse cake fragrance.
“Come here.”
?!
Qin Zhi swallowed hard and walked over with heavy steps, crouching beside the bed. The person on the bed’s brows were tightly furrowed, the veins on her pale forehead standing out starkly, a clear sign of suppressed agony.
The closer Qin Zhi got, the more unbearable the heat from the mousse cake pheromones became. She turned her back to the bed, leaning against its edge, and slowly released her own pheromones.
After what felt like an eternity, both physically and mentally exhausted, she gradually withdrew her pheromones.
The person on the bed opened her eyes. Qin Zhi’s heart clenched. Chi Li’s gaze was hazy, her eyes glistening with tears. “Thank you,” she murmured, her voice slightly hoarse.
?!
After a moment, Qin Zhi realized what was happening. She braced her weary body and brought in the noodles she had prepared. “They’re a bit clumpy,” she said.
“Mm,” Chi Li replied.
Unsure if she was being rejected, Qin Zhi really didn’t want to make another bowl right now. “If you don’t want to eat this, I can order takeout.”
“No need. I’ll manage,” Chi Li said. During her acting days, the film crew’s limited resources often meant eating cold boxed lunches.
“Shall I help you sit up?”
Chi Li nodded silently.
She hadn’t expected her heat to be so unbearable this time. Previously, she would use suppressant patches or injections in advance. But since Qin Zhi had marked her, the patches seemed to have lost their effectiveness. All she wanted was to be near her Alpha, yet Qin Zhi remained frustratingly oblivious.
Her brows furrowed involuntarily at the thought.
Hadn’t the doctor explained everything clearly enough?
Qin Zhi is just an irresponsible Scum Alpha, Chi Li thought bitterly. Fine, be a scum. I have no choice now anyway. But to be a scum who doesn’t even want to take responsibility? Her eyes instantly welled up with tears.
Qin Zhi felt her heart tighten under Chi Li’s gaze. Hesitantly, she asked, “What’s wrong? Still feeling unwell? Maybe we should go to the hospital after all.”
“Get out!” Hearing the word “hospital” only made her feel more wronged. She pointed toward the door and snapped at Qin Zhi.
Had she angered her again?
Qin Zhi stared at the door, then walked over and paused at the threshold. Before closing it, she said, “Call me if you need anything. I’ll be in the next room.”
Back in her own room, Qin Zhi immediately showered to wash away the pheromone scent clinging to her skin. She lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Normally, she’d drift off almost as soon as her head hit the pillow.
But tonight, every time she closed her eyes, she saw Chi Li’s restrained expression.
This is driving me crazy!
After tossing and turning for what felt like an eternity, Qin Zhi grabbed her pillow and tiptoed to the adjacent room.
She gently turned the doorknob. Click. The door swung open.
The room was pitch-black, the curtains drawn tight against even a sliver of moonlight.
Alphas possessed naturally superior night vision. The figure on the bed lay perfectly still, her thick eyelashes fluttering slightly. Qin Zhi’s heart clenched. Fortunately, the sleeping woman merely rolled over.
The blanket was clutched tightly in her arms, her long, pale legs peeking out and resting on top of it. Peeking higher, Qin Zhi could vaguely see…
Startled by the suggestive sight, Qin Zhi hurried forward and tucked her completely back under the covers.
Clutching her pillow and pressing it against her pounding heart, Qin Zhi retreated to her own room next door.
The next morning, as the sky began to lighten with the first hint of dawn, Qin Zhi heard voices. Following the sound, she peered down the staircase and froze.
Chi Li looked up at the sound and saw Qin Zhi standing frozen at the top of the stairs. Their eyes met, and Qin Zhi felt instantly caught off guard, instinctively averting her gaze and clearing her throat. “Come down for some water.”
“Mm.”
Neither spoke again. Qin Zhi descended the stairs and went straight to the kitchen, pouring herself a glass of water.
As she tilted her head back to drink, she glanced sideways at Chi Li. Chi Li was dressed casually today, in jeans and a loose white shirt. Whether the jeans were too long or simply styled that way, the cuffs were rolled up to her ankles, revealing slender, pale ankles. The shirt’s top button was undone, exposing her delicate collarbones, which framed Chi Li’s exquisitely alluring face.
Qin Zhi suddenly felt thirsty again.
Wait a minute…
The clothes looked familiar.
“Sister Chi, we can go now.”
There’s someone else in the house!
Qin Zhi lifted her glass, pretending to drink calmly while secretly glancing at the entryway. It was Chi Li’s assistant.
Chi Li walked to the entryway, turned to face Qin Zhi, who was still standing in the kitchen doorway. “Drinking too much cold water first thing in the morning isn’t good for you.”
Then she closed the door and left without looking back.
What?!
Pfft! Qin Zhi choked on her water, coughing violently.
