Married First, Loved Later with the Fake Heiress (ABO) - Chapter 1
A University held a popular beauty ranking that was categorized by sub-gender: Omega, Beta, and Alpha.
The top-ranked Omega was Ji Mianyue, a quintessential “sweet girl.” A single, gentle smile from her could instantly brighten anyone’s mood; she was the kind of person who could turn a cloudy day into a sunny one.
The top-ranked Alpha, on the other hand, was Wen Conghan. Her beauty was of a different sort. At first glance, she possessed a gentle appearance, but a closer look revealed a piercing coldness in her eyes. Notably, she had a unique mole at the end of her left eyebrow that added a distinct charm to her look.
The temperaments of the two were diametrically opposed, yet their “CP fans” had always felt they were a perfect match. In reality, the two women did not even know each other at school.
That changed when someone posted a message in a small “shipping” group, which immediately set the larger fan community ablaze.
“You guys won’t believe what I just saw! Wen Conghan and Ji Mianyue are sitting together on the playground! They are sitting very close!”
“Oh my god! Are ‘Mommy’ and ‘Mama’ finally together after all our constant prayers?”
“I do not care! Even if they are just friends, I am shipping it hard! Beautiful girls should be with beautiful girls! It is better than being scammed out of your money and heart by someone ugly claiming it is ‘true love.’ These two must be happy!”
“Stop talking about those unlucky things! Show us the photos! Where are the photos?”
Soon, someone posted a picture. It was clearly taken from a forced perspective. In the photo, it looked as if they were already kissing, but in reality, they were just close enough to feel each other’s breath.
This photo triggered a wave of excitement in the group and drew a massive crowd of amateur investigators to observe. Unfortunately, this eye-catching moment did not last long. After Wen Conghan whispered a few words into Ji Mianyue’s ear, the two left the spectator stands together.
Ji Mianyue felt as if her peaceful life had suddenly been punctured. Her mind was filled with nothing but the sentence Wen Conghan had just uttered:
“Do you not think your life has been a bit strange lately? For example, has your family’s attitude suddenly changed? Give me a chance to tell you the truth.”
The weight of those words made Ji Mianyue’s heart pound. How could the person in front of her know so much about her life? What did she mean by that? Her mothers had indeed been acting strange lately. Their words and actions were the same as before, but their expressions were clearly different.
She had to get a clear answer.
Walking ahead, Wen Conghan’s steps were light and brisk because the destination was her private dormitory. Before entering the room, the dorm supervisor’s gaze lingered on their faces several times. Ji Mianyue, never having been scrutinized like that before, blushed immediately. Once her face turned red, the atmosphere became even more ambiguous.
“Only stay for half an hour. Come out as soon as the time is up. Do not chat too late!” The dorm supervisor looked at the two young women and tapped her desk as a warning.
Ji Mianyue’s face grew even hotter. She had never been misunderstood in this way before. She could not help but steal a glance at Wen Conghan. She wondered why Wen Conghan was so composed, as if she were not afraid of being misunderstood at all. Once her gaze landed on Wen Conghan’s face, another question surfaced in her mind: How can someone be this beautiful?
In her own dorm, she had heard Wen Conghan’s name often. Sometimes it was because of her beauty, sometimes because of her rank as the top student in the school, and sometimes because of the special treatment regarding her living arrangements. Ordinary Alphas lived four to a room. Even the special ones only received a double room. But Wen Conghan was different; she had been recruited by the school with top-tier incentives, making her the only person in the entire school with a single room.
“Please, come in. Here, you do not have to worry about your privacy.”
A polite, distant smile played at the corners of Wen Conghan’s mouth. She held the door open considerately. Then, she took Ji Mianyue’s hand and led her to sit down by the desk. In this room, the only places to sit were the single bed and the chair by the desk.
Taking her hand just to lead her to a seat felt a bit unnecessary. Wen Conghan’s eyes darkened slightly. After releasing Ji Mianyue’s hand, she folded her own hands together, trying to preserve the warmth from the touch.
Ji Mianyue did not sense anything wrong with the hand-holding. She was curiously looking around the room. The main color scheme was blue, and because the owner maintained it meticulously, the room looked neat and cozy. It felt very comfortable. Ji Mianyue felt a twinge of envy toward the soft-looking bed. She had not used her status as the daughter of the Ji family to demand a private dorm, but compared to the bunk-bed-over-desk setup, she preferred a single bed on the floor.
Anything that attracted Ji Mianyue made Wen Conghan happy. A thought popped into Wen Conghan’s head: In the future, when they apply for a spouse dormitory, she could hold Ji Mianyue to sleep in this very bed.
Wen Conghan’s voice broke the silence.
“You and I were swapped at birth. Your mothers do not know how to tell you this.”
Watching the confusion and doubt bloom on Ji Mianyue’s face, Wen Conghan felt, for the first time, that her self-control was lacking. She wanted so badly to kiss Ji Mianyue and pull her into her arms. Not yet. At least not yet, Wen Conghan thought as a faint, deep glint flashed in her eyes.
After hearing this, Ji Mianyue carefully checked the calendar on her phone. Today was certainly not April 1st. She wondered why Wen Conghan would play such a joke on her.
“Student Wen, even as a joke, you should not say things like that.”
The usually sweet Ji Mianyue had suddenly become serious, which made her even more attractive.
“It is not a joke. We really were swapped.”
Wen Conghan walked to the desk, leaned down, and pulled a prepared file folder from a drawer. The distance between them suddenly closed significantly. Ji Mianyue felt her heart rate accelerate to an uncomfortable pace. The scent of Wen Conghan’s pheromones was lavender. It had been her favorite scent since she was a child. Thinking of this, the girl who had been so serious a moment ago now had pink-tipped ears. Pheromones were a very private thing.
Wen Conghan also wanted to smell Ji Mianyue’s pheromones, but she failed. She could not smell anything, likely because Ji Mianyue’s scent-blocking patch was too effective. It did not matter; in the future, she could press her lips against that gland and kiss every inch of it.
“Here are all our identification documents, as well as blood type compatibility reports for us and our parents, and the DNA results.”
The documents were removed from the folder, and Wen Conghan spread the papers across the desk one by one. Ji Mianyue began to read them carefully. The thing she had thought was absurd was now being confirmed in black and white. Ji Mianyue felt like a porcelain vase that had been suddenly shattered. She bit her lower lip so hard that deep teeth marks appeared on the pink flesh.
“Though it sounds unbelievable, the swap is real.”
Ji Mianyue was shaking all over, her eyes reddening instantly. She clutched the fabric of her skirt helplessly, looking as if she might collapse.
“It cannot be. It cannot be. How could I not be my mother’s child?”
As she spoke, her voice carried a sob. She looked up at Wen Conghan, her eyes full of pleading.
“Student Wen, is this some new way of playing a trick on people? Is it?”
“I am really scared now. Please do not play with me like this.”
Having seen the complete chain of evidence, she had already accepted the truth in her heart. However, emotionally, she could not take it.
“No, no. I have to go find Mom and Mama.”
Wen Conghan grabbed Ji Mianyue.
“Do not go through all that trouble. I have a video here as well. Watch it before you decide whether to go to them.”
Ji Mianyue wanted to shake off the other girl’s hand, but her lifelong upbringing told her that she was the beneficiary in this situation and she should feel guilty. Thus, her forceful rejection turned into a gentle struggle. Wen Conghan had long anticipated that Ji Mianyue’s psychological defenses would crumble. This was the exact timing she needed.
Wen Conghan opened the laptop on the desk. The video was surveillance footage of when Ji Mianyue’s mothers had come to find her.
“Child, actually, you are my real child.”
Wen Conghan had specifically edited that sentence to appear in the first second. Sure enough, Ji Mianyue’s emotional state collapsed further.
“I? Am I really not my mother’s child?”
Tears streamed down Ji Mianyue’s face. The video continued to play, and every word in it pierced her nerves.
“The truth is before us. So, let us consider how to resolve this,” Wen Conghan said. She looked at the grieving Ji Mianyue and gently pulled the girl into her arms. In a place where Ji Mianyue could not see, the corners of Wen Conghan’s mouth curled upward.
“I know you did not want this. Our swap was just a hospital error. How about we find a way that works out for everyone?”
Hearing this, Ji Mianyue finally looked up.
“What do you mean by a way that works for everyone?”
In a voice that was almost predatory in its coaxing, Wen Conghan said, “I believe you do not want to leave your home, right? As long as we get married, all the problems will be resolved.”
“Married?” Ji Mianyue repeated blankly.
Wen Conghan looked at her panicked face and said, “Yes. As long as we get married, you will still be the daughter of the Ji family. Mianyue, you do not want to leave that home, do you?”
Ji Mianyue’s mind was a mess, and fear had drowned out her logic.
“Okay! Then we will get married today!”
Hearing the answer she wanted, Wen Conghan finally allowed herself to fully enjoy the warmth of holding Ji Mianyue. She had spent countless nights imagining what it would feel like to embrace her. Today, she found that reality was even better than imagination. Their two soft bodies were pressed tightly together through their clothes. This sensation allowed Wen Conghan’s nerves, which had been tense for days, to finally relax. She had caught it: the only light from her youth.
“Not today. We have to pretend to be a couple for a while for the plan to go smoothly. Don’t worry. I am here.”
After hearing Wen Conghan’s gentle voice, Ji Mianyue burst into tears again.
“No, no. I took away your life, and now I am forcing you to marry me. I am such a terrible person.”
Wen Conghan realized she had underestimated just how much of a conscience Ji Mianyue had.
