Make Her Heart Flutter - Chapter 9
At first, she hadn’t felt anything, but after Chi Shuang mentioned it, she focused on the sensation and realized she was indeed a little hungry, so she nodded.
Chi Shuang smiled. “Then let’s grab something to eat before heading back. We can also bring something for Ranran and the others.”
Jiang Qi’s first instinct was to refuse. Are you kidding me? Eating alone with the female lead, do I have a death wish?
She was mentally preparing how to decline, but when she looked down and saw Chi Shuang’s earnest and hopeful eyes, the words she had rehearsed wouldn’t come out. In the end, she heard her own voice say, “Okay.”
Chi Shuang’s mood visibly lifted, and she began pointing out the snacks along the street. “These are potstickers, and those are fried rice cakes.”
Jiang Qi followed the direction of Chi Shuang’s finger and saw a spread of oily food. Curious, she asked, “As a female celebrity, can you really eat such greasy things?”
At this, Chi Shuang’s expression fell. “No, I haven’t had any in so long. Every morning, it’s black coffee and whole wheat bread. You know what? I feel like a pitiful little bitter melon.”
By the end of her sentence, Chi Shuang’s brows were tightly furrowed, as if she were reliving some painful memory.
Pitiful little bitter melon? Jiang Qi couldn’t help but let out a short laugh. The sound, though brief, made Chi Shuang’s eyes light up. “Ah… that’s more like it. You look so much prettier when you smile.”
Catching her own reflection in a storefront window, Jiang Qi saw her upturned lips and felt a moment of daze. Shaking it off, she changed the subject. “After looking at all these options, have you decided what you want to eat?”
“Let’s go for the wonton place,” Chi Shuang said hesitantly, ultimately passing on the fried rice cakes and oily potstickers she had been craving.
Jiang Qi nodded and ordered two bowls of wontons at the shop. “I’m going to look around for a bit. You rest here.”
Chi Shuang nodded obediently and reminded her, “Don’t go too far.”
Jiang Qi agreed and went to the breakfast shop next door to pack some items. By the time she returned, their wontons were already served.
Spotting Jiang Qi at the entrance, Chi Shuang waved her over. “Hurry, it’s ready to eat.” It wasn’t until Jiang Qi drew closer that she noticed the bags in her hand.
Noticing her gaze, Jiang Qi casually lifted the breakfast she had packed. “I went to get some other things to bring back. Wontons would get soggy if we took them to go.”
Chi Shuang, who had just taken a bite of wonton, smiled with crescent eyes. “So, Xiao Qi is this thoughtful.”
Feeling a little embarrassed, Jiang Qi pressed her lips together, sat down across from Chi Shuang, and unwrapped the breakfast she had bought. “I bought quite a bit. Why don’t you try some too?”
In the five minutes or three hundred seconds, it took to buy breakfast, she had come to a realization. Chi Shuang was the first person on the show to show her kindness, sincere and gentle, and she couldn’t bring herself to reject that goodwill.
If she were to disregard and dismiss a girl’s kindness toward her simply because of some uncertain, unfounded fate, she just couldn’t do it.
Alright, fine, she was also a sucker for pretty faces and couldn’t remain indifferent to Chi Shuang’s stunning beauty. Especially when Chi Shuang looked at her as if she were the only one in the world.
Chi Shuang felt a slight stir in her heart, but it was instantly overwhelmed by a surge of bitterness. Lowering her eyes, she picked up a dumpling with her chopsticks. “Thank you.”
Jiang Qi rubbed her nose. “No need to thank me.”
Before leaving, Chi Shuang also packed a portion of soup dumplings, smiling as she said to Jiang Qi, “Ranran told me last night that she wanted to eat soup dumplings.”
Jiang Qi suddenly felt that Yan Xu’s words weren’t entirely accurate. In fact, not only did Jiang Ran really like Chi Shuang, but Chi Shuang also, no, very much cared for this little sister. A subtle sense of jealousy stirred within her.
By the time the two finished breakfast and returned, it was already past nine. As soon as they stepped into the yard, they saw Tang Qiluo and Shang Chumu tinkering with something, while Jiang Ran and Yan Xu were moving the foldable sofa in the living room downstairs.
Jiang Qi and Chi Shuang exchanged a glance, both seeing confusion in each other’s eyes. Chi Shuang spoke first, “What are you all up to?”
Jiang Ran was the first to approach. She put down what she was holding and ran over, wanting to give Chi Shuang a bear hug, but Jiang Qi stopped her.
Jiang Ran was still growing and was a head shorter than Jiang Qi, so when Jiang Qi held her head down, she couldn’t even stretch her arms out.
“Ahhh, Sister Jiang, what are you doing?” Jiang Ran suddenly felt the pressure of natural hierarchy. Pouting in grievance, she blinked her eyes, seeking help from Chi Shuang.
“Don’t you know that Alphas and Omegas shouldn’t be too familiar?” Jiang Qi raised an eyebrow.
Chi Shuang was amused by the two of them and handed over the breakfast. “Alright, alright, stop fooling around. We brought you breakfast, go eat it while it’s hot.”
Everyone gathered around the table. Although Jiang Qi and Chi Shuang had already eaten, they sat with them for a while, taking the opportunity to ask what they were all tinkering with.
“Ranran and Chumu found a projector in the attic of their room, but it doesn’t seem to be working very well. We’re trying to see if we can fix it so we can watch movies tonight,” Yan Xu explained.
“Did you manage to fix it?” Jiang Qi was also curious.
Tang Qiluo sighed. “It’s a long and arduous task.”
“It’s fine, take your time. I’ll take a look later too,” Chi Shuang reassured.
After finishing breakfast, everyone began working with clear division of labor to prepare for the movie night. Jiang Qi suddenly crouched beside Jiang Ran. “Let me give it a try?”
Jiang Ran shifted aside, making space for Jiang Qi.
Shang Chumu, from who knows where, brought a fairly large rug and spread it out in front of the sofa, then fetched a few sofa cushions from his own home and placed them on top.
After finishing, he spun around twice with a satisfied expression and let out a long sigh. “Perfect.”
Chi Shuang glanced at him with a smile. “All done?”
Shang Chumu nodded, looking proud. “Of course.”
“Then come help me chop firewood. We’re out of firewood,” Chi Shuang said.
Shang Chumu sighed. “So that’s what you were waiting for. Alright, mission accepted.”
Just then, Yan Xu let out a soft “Wow.” “The light’s on! Go try it, it should work now.”
Jiang Qi nodded, picked up the projector, and went to the living room. She plugged it in and adjusted its position. Since it was daytime, Jiang Ran closed the main door.
The room instantly darkened. When an image appeared on the white wall opposite, Jiang Ran happily grabbed Jiang Qi’s arm and shook it. “Wow, it really works! Sister Jiang, you’re amazing!”
Jiang Qi glanced at the person hanging onto her arm and hesitated to speak.
Jiang Ran knew what she was going to say and spoke first. “Are Alphas and Alphas not supposed to be too familiar either?”
Jiang Qi nodded seriously. Jiang Ran pouted. “Then I’ll go help Sister Chi with cooking. Hmph!”
Tang Qiluo pushed the door open and entered, letting out a small gasp of surprise when she saw the projector was working. “Xiao Qi, you’re just too talented. You can even fix this.”
Her praise was generous, and a faint smile tugged at the corner of Jiang Qi’s lips. Still, he remained humble. “It was just a minor issue. If it had been a serious problem, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything about it.”
